A Memorable Trip, Some Fashion and Take-Out

Yesterday afternoon I went up to Park City with my mom.  She wanted to go there (about 45 minutes away from where we live) to go to the outlets to get some new shoes. Since she knows that my social/work/life calendar is completely empty she invited me to go with her.  The whole drive is beautiful.

Photo 2 1

But the stores are even more beautiful… especially J Crew (someday when I make millions from a running invention that I am currently working on I will buy all of my clothes from J. Crew).  You can even see the ski jumps from the 2000 Winter Olympics in the background.  This trip reminded me a lot of when my Mom and I went to Park City the day before I moved away to college (a whole 15 minutes away) when I was 18.  The poor employees at Arby’s were wondering why we were both bawling at the table, luckily yesterday we decided not to talk about moving so that we wouldn’t end with mascara all over our faces.

Billy’s colored pants inspired me to get some of my own.  Funny how I bought new pants for post-pregnancy when in reality I will probably never make it out of sweatpants or running shorts for the first 3 years of my daughter’s life because I will be so tired.

I don’t think they are bright enough.  Do you?

After I got home I took a nap, hung with the Billster and then it was off to my parents’ house to store some of the stuff we want to keep but won’t fit in our new place.  For example we are leaving behind some of the hats that Billy had to wear when it would get down to -40 degrees when he lived in Ukraine for two years.  I don’t think we will need them in N. Cali.

DSC 3124

I think they all look really good in these hats especially on a day that it is 98 degrees outside.

Take-out + Olympic track and field + my perfect personal table tray =  I can’t even think of a word (neither can the thesaurus) to describe how happy it made me.

DSC 3127

3 random things I thought I should tell you:

1.  There is a a spider that attacks me every night.  I am itchy everywhere.

2.  I love watching the Olympic track sprinters cheeks (on their face) as they bounce when they run.

3.  Swedish Fish taste even better at 12:30 at night.  Don’t believe me?  Try it.

————————————————–

If you had all of the money in the world, what store would you buy all of your clothing at?

If you could compete in ANY track and field event at the Olympics, what would you choose?

Where is the coldest place you have ever been?

How old were you when you moved out? Did you move far?

I LOVE Loft! J Crew is up there too, but LOFT is my all time favorite store. The Park City outlets are so fun and you’re right, it’s such a beautiful drive up there! Glad you gals had a fun day of shopping together!

Reply

I love Express, but sometimes their clothes get pricey. I love their jeans but I have a hard time spending $90 on a pair.

I love the hats – your nieces are so cute!

Reply

Why did Billy live in the Ukraine? Those hats are awesome.

I love JCrew. Most of my clothes are from there, but I don’t have many clothes, so that tells you something, too.

I went to college in Michigan, which is a 13 hour drive from my parents. My extended family is all in MI, though, so it wasn’t that hard of a move.

Reply

J-Crew and Banana Republic fit my body best so I mostly shop there. If I had unlimited $$ I would pull the trigger for non-classic pieces more often at Anthropologie or those boutiquey places.

I was eating red velvet cake at 12:30, and this morning Chris goes, “why is there frosting on our counter.” It brought me great joy to read him your line about the swedish fish. :)

Have a great day.

I love outlet mall shopping! I drive past an outlet mall every time I go visit my parents. Usually I’m able to resist but I plan on stopping my next time through, I need some new clothes! Now if only I can resist the Nike and UnderArmour outlets and focus on some business casual.

I moved out when I was 20 with my then boyfriend (now hubby) from north of Atlanta to Orlando for his school. It was the hardest thing for me ever. I was homesick for a good couple of months, but I’m happy I did it. Now I’m only 4 hours away from my family instead of 8.

All my clothes would come from H&M, J. Crew, Zara, and Anthropologie.

Reply

That’s a great story about you leaving for college!
Sadly one of the coldest places I have ever been is where I live- Edmonton. A couple winters ago we made the coldest place in the world one day. We get gorgeous weather, too, so i try not to complain too much!
I’d have to say I’d spend all my money at Nike or Anthro.

Reply

I would definitly do pole vaulting if I were in the Olympics. I would get ripped abs and fly high in the sky. Plus I would apparently become comfortable in a 2 piece bathing suit. Sounds like a win win win situation.

Reply

I moved out at 18 to go to college, but I didn’t go far and I remember my mom cried which surprised me so much! She isn’t a crier at all so to see her rushing off to car to cry was a little sad. :( I would buy all of my clothes from Lulemon and Lucy…because would be rich and wouldn’t have to impress anyone by wearing real clothes LOL!

Reply

I moved away when I went to college in another state. I still live around my parents now so I didn’t stay away long!

The other night I got up between 12-1am to eat left over cookie dough. It was fun because I can’t remember the last time I got up in the middle of the night to eat!

This has nothing to do with this post was curious if you could do a post on how you plan to get your body back after pregnancy? I am terrified of this as I have always been an athlete and have never intentionally had to lose weight for anything. I would hope that I would have the will power but it still scares me.

I really love your blog!! :)

J. Crew an Banana Republic are where I am planning on spending my money when I win the lotto! :)

Reply

If you’re strategic, you never have to pay full price for J.Crew. They have a HUGE online sale section and often have additional discounts (30% off sale right now). A couple of weeks ago I got a long sleeve shirt for $6! They give a student discount as well.

The slow-mo playback cracks me up too! I have to admit I have somewhat of a girl crush on Allyson Felix. The 200 was always my favorite (individual) event- it’s over before you start to hurt!

I’ve been in some pretty serious negative temps during the winter in VT and NH, especially with the wind chill. One time it was so cold that only the driver’s door opened on my friend’s car and we all had to crawl in and over the seats!

Reply

OH girl, I am loving those pants. I’ve been looking for a pair of colored jeans but haven’t found any that fit me well or that are doing anything for me.

In Upstate, NY, the weather got to be -30. I can physically remember being the coldest I’ve ever been in my life visiting Lake Placid, come to find out it was -30 without the windchill!

Reply

I think I would have to pick Macy’s or Bloomingdales……they are so beautiful. I walk around the store in “ahh”, not even picking up anything because I don’t want to see the price.

I moved out when I was 17. Only about 10 minutes away. I have lived in a 10 mile radius for my entire life. I love it here though and I never want to leave.

Reply

I love too many stores! Banana Republic and Anthropologie are favs.
100m race for sure.
Where I live! haha. Seriously though, we get some COLD winter days!
I was 21 and moved about 3 hours away.

Reply

Wow, that’s pretty cool that Billy like in Ukraine! I bet it was quite an experience.
& that is hilarious about watching the sprinters cheeks as they run- Craig & I do that too & we can’t help but laugh :D

Reply

haha! My mom (not a runner) asked if my cheeks do that when I run. I had to break it to her that I will never be moving fast enough for that to take place…

With my unlimited pile of $$ I’d, sadly, probably by all my clothes from Running Wearhouse. Or maybe I’d spring for Athleta.

If I could compete in any Track & Field event, in the Olympics, I’d choose the 10k. You know…’cause they’d just let me “choose”. :)

Have a great day!

Reply

Love reading your blog. Can you give a link for the belly support band you wear for running?

Reply

I would shop at J Crew and Zara. Everything at Zara is so freaking nice I would just buy the entire store every season. Ugh a girl can dream…

Reply

definitely laughed out loud when you had to specifically say the cheeks on their faces :) I would be so embarrassed to see what I look like sprinting in slow motion!

Reply

Would love to shop at Black & White, Anthropology, and Lululemon

I would run the mile and be really fast!

Coldest place probably Oregon.

I was 19 when I moved out and it was about 15 minutes away. Kinda wish I had stayed home with my Mom longer ; (

Reply

I don’t think it would be any one store. And I ruin clothes so no matter how much $$ I had, I still wouldn’t spend a ton on clothes.
T&F…..maybe the triathlon.
Upstate NY is the coldest place I have ever been.
I moved out to college at 18 and never went home fulltime again. Just for summers. And when I graduated I stayed near school. 800+ miles away.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I agree with you…I love JCrews clothes but they are wayyyy too expensive..thatd be my store of choice though :)

I’d probably go for the olympic marathon! Who wouldnt want a chance to run with Kara Goucher?

I moved out for school but came back after graduation and lived at home until 23…I moved around 40 minutes away so not too far, but close enough to visit whenever I wanted :) Its tough, but i love being on my own!

Reply

I love watching their faces in slow-mo, too! It’s seriously the funniest thing ever. Not so funny is how crazy fast they are.

Reply

-I would probably buy all of my clothes at Gap, Express, or Urban Outfitters… and jeans from the Buckle.

-I would choose the 200m sprint because that was my fav in high school… I love the momentum the curve gives you to really take off the last 100m.

-I live in Illinois… and we get into sub- zero temps during the winter which means this is the coldest place I have ever been.

-I moved out from my parents house when I was 20 years old. I had the CUTEST loft apartment and lived by myself (I’m a little OCD and don’t like to pick up other people’s messes). Then of course I started dating my boyfriend who lived 5 miles the opposite direction of where my parents live and ended up spending more time at his place than my apartment! It was a good experience, though. My Mom always says that you need to live on your own before you ever commit to living with your significant other :) we’ve lived together for over a year now and I love it!

Reply

I love your pants! I am starting to feel like I need some too!

And those hats? so adorable!

I don’t even know. When we had track day in elementary school I always did long jump (because I didn’t like running when I was little), and three legged race, and potato sack race. So if they add those last two to the olympics, then that’s what I’d totally enter!

I was 18 when I moved 9 hours away from home. I cried for hours when my mom left and almost every day that year. So I transfered colleges (to my one true love, Texas Tech!) and was less than 2 hours away. But then I graduated and moved to houston so now I’m 13 hours away…But I don’t get homesick all the time like I did my first year in college.

Reply

Anthropologie for sure. I would love to do hurdles or high jump. I love the idea of propelling oneself that high. I thing Calgary is the coldest place I’ve been but I’m dying to do an Alaska fishing trip when my son is old enough. And I only moved to Los Angeles when I moved out. I hate to be too far from family.

Reply

Oh my gosh I am so happy you laugh at the sprinters faces as well. It cracks me up EVERY time! and they always show slow motion replays of those races over and over again while they talk about them. I can’t take it, I burst into a fit of giggles every time!

I am up in Northern Minnesota, so we are very familiar with cold weather!

Reply

I love JCrew! I would totally purchase all my clothing from there if I could!!

I would compete in the 10k if I had the choice! I love that it isn’t too long but you are still on the track for longer than a minute :)

Reply

I’d get a personal shopper, if I had all the money in the world ;)

Coldest place I’ve ever been is New Zealand in the winter months. We used to get in the car and put the heating on full blast and just drive, because we could never get the places we lived in warm enough. I miss those drives now….

I moved out to the city when I turned 18.

Reply

I would buy from UrbanOutfitters :) Love their clothes. I would run in the marahon, it is my dream to one day do that :) I’m slowly working on it. The coldest place I’ve been it so some place in Cali where it snows, so it honestly probably wasn’t as cold as I thought it was when I was little haha. I was three when I moved, it was to the other side of town. I remember shoving my brother into a closet and telling him not to come it. In my little head I thought that if we had to come back for him then my parents would just say forget it to moving haha LOVE your orange pants!! I’ve been wanting to get some green ones for a while now.

Reply

Ah – I can’t stay committed to one designer – but I can stay committed to Nordstrom. I am a HUGE fan of bright colored pants. Excellent choice!

Reply

I would buy all my clothes at Banana Republic. There is an outlet near my house, and watch out for me when I go there!

I moved 40 minutes away when I was 18 and cried like a baby, haha. Love my mama!

Reply

I also love watching the track sprinters faces! I was just saying that to my husband last night! I really LOVE those bright pants! I just bought some royal blue ones! When I went to Utah in July we went to the Olympic Park! So much fun!

Reply

He lived in Ukraine!?!? When!?!? Crazy! Haha. And I sooooo wish I could wear JCrew all the time! Haha I have like 3 items from their outlet stores… Oh, but I do have a large stuffed bunny that was a mascot to the 2000 olympics! We used to go skiing in Deer Valley and one year they had them displayed out before the Olympics and my dad got me one! It’s the cutest thing.

And I moved out to go to college in Charleston, SC. I grew up in Kansas City, MO – it was pretty far! Now I’m in Chicago and who knows where I’ll be in a year! I sure don’t…

Reply

It might not matter how much money I had; I’d still be a bargain hunter. Sooo…Target? Marshall’s?

Ugh. No, thanks on the track. I consider my track workouts like medicine, so wouldn’t want to train there 100%, ever.

I lived in upstate NY for 6 years, that was pretty chilly at times…but not like the Ukraine!

First move was to college, only 45 minutes away. Then upstate, 5 hours away. Then Cali, 6 flight hours away. Next up: Singapore. That’s pretty far. And I STILL have boxes at my parent’s house. :)

Reply

My cousin lives in Singapore and she loves it. Her husband owns a restaurant called Luke’s Oyster Bar – if you get a chance to check it out. They have been there for about 6 years and have enjoyed it so far – lots of great travel opportunities!

Reply

I think I’d buy all my clothes at Nordstrom’s, but mostly just for the amazing shoes that store has. :)

I’d want to do the pole vault! Though I’d be too afraid of not making it up and falling back to the ground, ha.

I think the coldest place I’ve ever been was Colorado mountains in the winter. It was something like -12 at the tops of the ski slopes.

Reply

Hahaha! I’ve been watching their cheeks bounce too. I also loved the guy that stuck his tongue out last night while he was crossing the finish line. Did he think he would get a better time?

Reply

My hubby has one of those hats too (he went to the Urkraine, too).

Reply

I love those hats! I wish I was fast enough to run in the women’s marathon!

Reply

I’d probably go for JCrew, too. I am obsessed with that store!

Reply

With all the money in the world, I would hire a personal shopper and would not worry that she’s picking clothes which are waaay out of my budget ;)!

Reply

Are you sure it’s a spider? I don’t think they tend to bite often. Of course people get spider bites, but are you waking up many days with bites?

Reply

Really? I may have exaggerated a little bit and I only have three bites total. Maybe it is a mosquito?

Reply

Yeah it’s mosquito season. So hopefully just that. Just seems odd that you’d get spider bites over time. You thought you had a spider bite a week or two ago right? I also think sometimes pregnant women get welts that aren’t actually bites but just a skin thing? Hopefully it’s not bed bugs.

Reply

My skin has been doing crazy things while I’ve been pregnant! Let’s just hope it’s that. Thanks for all your help!

Reply

Those hats are hilarious – my dad had a few like that for when he lived in Korea for a year. We always loved playing with them, until our heads got super sweaty.

If I had all the money in the world I’d probably by my clothes from Anne Taylor. I love the work clothes they have there. I like J. Crew and Anthropology also, but I haven’t ever tried on clothes from there so I’m not sure they would actually fit me well.

I would love to do the high jump – only because it kind of looks like flying. It must feel exhilarating flying over that bar and landing on a big fluffy mattress. My upper body strength is pathetic though, so I’d need a whole new set of arms to ever accomplish that.

The coldest place I ever lived was Misawa, Japan. It’s up in the north part and it got pretty chilly. We got 200+ feet of snow each year. It wasn’t freezing like Ukraine or Mongolia, but it definitely got cold.

I was 18 when I moved out for college. I just moved 30 minutes away, so not a big deal. I later moved to Atlanta, which was 8 hours away and then moved to Honduras which was much farther away. Now I live a mile from my sister, so I’ve come full circle. Of course, my parents moved to Vermont, so they are now ten hours away from us!

Reply

I am a J.crew and Banana girl through and through! Almost all my clothes are from there ;) (I also worked at Gap, so I have a bunch from there too!)

What a fun day with your mom!

Reply

I would buy all my clothes at J. Crew too and Anthropologie. Love those stores! LOVE THEM! I would choose the 400 meter hurdles. I used to hurdle in high school and loved it. The coldest place I have been is probably where I grew up, which I think it only got in the single digits once in all the 20+ years I lived there. I was 18 when I moved out and I moved 12 hours away, driving anyway. :)

Reply

You are so stinking cute Janae! Love that last picture of you. I freaking love PC like so much. Love Banana and Jcrew and now I will spend the rest of my workday coming up with a running invention to make me millions of dollars. :)

Lets get together one last time before you leave please? I know you have about 1 million people you want to spend time with before me but YL is really calling my name so let me know if you can sneak me into your agenda. :) have a great day!

Reply

Hey gorgeous! I am going to miss you so much! Would Saturday work for you?

Reply

What a beautiful place to shop! I love the pic of the Billy and your niece in the hats…..super cute! White House Black Market for all of my shopping needs and I would run the marathon.

Reply

That’s so sad to leave your mom, but luckily it’s not too crazy far away. Like Florida.

Did Billy speak Ukrainian or Russian when he was there? I served in Rostov (just across the Russian border) about a million years ago. And the next Olympics are in the first city I lived in, Sochi, which is the coolest thing ever and may be my most legitimate excuse to go back and visit.

Reply

No way! That is the coolest thing ever. You better go back for the Olympics. Billy spoke Russian. did you?

Reply

Russian too! Language twins.

Reply

Janae, Did you know that at JCrew you get a teacher’s discount! I love the JCrew Outlet, the one in MA is stock with what is currently being sold at the JCrew store. I am obsessed the “Nicky top”, I must have it in every color and print! They look really cute with jean shorts and jeggings. Also, JCrew flats are amazing.

If I could shop at only one store and money wasn’t an object it would be Scoop NYC or Bloomingdales/Saks Fifth. I don’t think I could choose, guess I wouldn’t have to because I’d be rich :)

I left my parents house at 18 to go away to college.

Reply

I moved across the country to Boston (from CA) for college, and then moved into my own apartment back in CA after graduating. Now I live 10 minutes from my parents (I’m 34) and they watch my daughter for us twice a week while we work!

So, off topic, but does your stomach get hard when you are running and right after? This is my second pregnancy so I know it’s not BH contractions, but my stomach always just feels big and hard right after a workout, so weird!

Reply

Hey Robin! My stomach does the exact same thing. I asked my doctor about it and he said it is totally normal. Congratulations!

Reply

If I had lots of monies, I would probably get all my clothes from Banana Republic (and I guess their partners… which include the Gap, Old Navy, Athleta).

Reply

I have the best outlets less than a mile from my house – J. Crew, True Religion, Last Call – Neiman Marcus, etc. I could live there. My current favorite is Nordstrom though. I love their dresses, jeans, and shoes. Also, lululemon for workout stuff.
I moved out when I was 18. I lived in Montana for 6 months but it was the summertime so I didn’t experience a winter there, thank goodness.
Is it wrong that I thought about the abs of the women before I would choose an event? All of them are in phenomenal shape but I’d have to say pole vault.

Reply

We stayed up til 1am the other night to watch the Mars rover Curiosity land, and I celebrated with Swedish Fish, so I wholeheartedly agree with you! I love me some Target…maybe I would change my mind if money weren’t an issue at all, but you just can’t beat their fun clothes! Those jeans are so cute!

Reply

I live in Chicago, where the cold winters sometimes make me cry. I only wish I was kidding! This is the coldest ill ever go, I hope!

Reply

I LOVE watching track and field for that exact reason- their faces look so funny! I always record the events & make my family sit there as I rewind the slow motion shots over and over and laugh like crazy! Too funny:)

Reply

QUESTION! When you run on the treadmill, do you put it on a slight incline or no? I noticed in your last post it said the amount ‘climbed’.

PS- coloured pants are the BEST. Gotta love them.

Reply

Hey Becky! Thank you so much. Yes I always put the treadmill on an incline. Usually about 1%. Do you?

Reply

Love the red (orange?) pants!

I have a pair of cobalt blue pants that are my current favorite — I always get at least one positive comment about the color when I wear them!

Reply

I’d be a J.Crew girl. I moved to college at 18, but when I graduated and really moved out it was to the Dominican Republic (from Minnesota!!). So that was a big move. Coldest place: Marshall, MN!

Reply

I used to buy all of my regular clothes at J. Crew (and all of my running clothes from Oiselle), but now that I am preggers I buy whatever will fit my expanding waistline, and try to squeeze into as many of the “normal” clothes as possible.

21 weeks to go….

Reply

bwahahah… I’m like What other type of cheeks are there?.. derrr… I love it too tho! They look crazy! lol

Reply

I’d spend all of my money at Theory and Alice + Olivia. I’m a sucker for tailored clothing. :)

10000 meters is where it’s at, mainly because the shorter distances are too intimidating! I’d hate to lose by a hundredth of a second!

Reply

I love the picture with them in the hats!! too cute!

Reply

Cute pants! Shopping with Moms is always fun!!

Reply

I am loving those hats. Maybe you should keep them … you never know when you might want to sport one of them with some shorts and flip flops. It would be quite the fashion statement. ;)

Reply

definitely not bright enough.

Reply

Anthropologie!!! I love love love that store, and will definitely shop there all the time when we are millionaires! ;) I love Swedish fish too, will have to try them in the middle of the night sometime.

Reply

LOVE THE RED PANTS! I would spend all of my money at Jcrew ;)

Reply

Hahahaha- I love their cheeks, too. The slow motion replay is the best!

Reply

Awww sounds like nice mother-daughter bonding! I would def buy out JCrew…it’s my fav store. Loving the hats btw lol :)

Reply

My new favorite place to buy clothes is the Athleta catalog…always get compliments when I wear something from them- lots of casual clothes + yoga & running outfits!

Reply

you will fit into them right afterwards…you look amazing!

I moved out at 17, I think it was harder when at 18 I moved halfway across the country.

Reply

Oh, I love seeing the runners faces! I wish the Olympics were more than just about two weeks in the summer! It’s so fun to watch.

Reply

I went to Ukraine in 2007, and think about that place probably every day!!! I went during the summer, so it wasn’t too cold then! :-)

Reply

l would spend all my money at RW & Company. They have such beautiful classic clothes that are in style for years.

Reply

I would probably shop at J Crew too.
I would run the marathon probably.
Coldest place I’ve ever been – Seriously – Mississippi sleet / snow storm – nothing like it – temp may be 15-20 but the wind chill is LOW because of the dampness. No dry snow here – always wet, damp, bone-chilling COLD!
I moved out when I got married at 20 years old – 90 miles away. Close enough to visit on weekends but far enough to gain and learn from my independence.

Reply

I would buy all of my clothes at Nordstrom. I want to move into Nordstrom and live in the shoe department. They have an amazing selection of EVERYTHING – beauty, active, fashion, handbags.

I have no kids I really considered buying a pair of baby bloomers once because they were so adorable. Thanks Nordstrom buyers for making me happy!
