Congratulations to Me

Welcome to my new office where I do important things like check Facebook, find new workout clothes that I can’t afford and look up jokes to tell Billy when he gets home from school.  We sold our desk and so the TV entertainment center is going to have to do for now, it makes for the perfect location to have the fan directly on me and place my delicious cookie down on in between bites.

Billy and I went to go get our windshield chips repaired and they always warn you that there is a possibility that they could actually make the chip worse when trying to repair it and it isn’t their fault.  My car was that possibility and now I have a spiderweb of cracks.  Always fun news to hear you need a new windshield (such a hard life, I know;)  Good thing food makes everything better and we met up with my parents, my brother and his wife for sweet pork salads and a delicious strawberry lemonade.

I would like to take a moment and congratulate myself.  I went an entire meal without spilling a drop of it on my white pants, Billy thought it would be impossible since I usually shovel my food in before I have a chance to be careful not to spill.  I proved him very wrong.  I also covered myself with 34 napkins.

Gabrielle Douglas is pretty much the cutest thing on the planet.  I seriously cannot wait to watch her compete.  We watched the Olympic Ceremonies (of course) and for the next 2 weeks I am pretty sure the Olympics will be the only thing I am capable of talking and thinking about.  I have officially declared August 5th a worldwide holiday because that is the day the Olympic Marathon will be on.  We should all rent out a movie theater and meet there to watch it together.  I will provide a table complete with skittles, donuts, mac and cheese and the above salads.

We took an intermission from the ceremonies to finish off the cake from Friday night.  My brother and his adorable family are leaving today and I will probably end up throwing a tantrum when they start driving away.

Two forms of dairy are necessary for me when I am eating chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. The cake we have been eating is just from a local grocery store but holy cow it is good, it is the only chocolate that makes me want to love it again.

I hope you have a great Saturday workout or run!  I will be getting mine done nice and early (remember that early is very relative and could actually mean 10 a.m. for me).   Eat some delicious carbs (I am thinking bagels and or french toast) to fuel or refuel your workout:)

My car air conditioning recently broke and it cost $1000 to fix. That was a sad, sad day.

I loved the opening ceremonies last night. My five year old watched a little bit of it, and it he kept asking me “when the tricks were going to start”. I think he wanted to see BMX biking and skateboarding tricks. Little minds are so funny.

We drink so many milks in my house – my and my son drink almond milk. My hubby and other son drink 2% milk, and my niece drinks whole milk. And I have chocolate milk for post workouts. Milk takes up our whole fridge!

Have a great Saturday!

Ugh paying for car issues is the WORST. I haven’t had anything recently come up, thank goodness, but it’s never fun to give your money to a mechanic!

Love your new chair. ;) I thought that parts of the Opening Ceremony were boring, but I liked some of the interviews. I’m all about the gymnastics! And I do have a home office. I like to make it pretty and organized since I spend loads of time there.

I ALWAYS spill on my white jeans so much so I get serious anxiety about even wearing them.

Reply

I know she is adorable! I am kinda obsessed with professional athletes. I mean, they get paid the in shape. So cool

My heater just went out on my van….yes, I know its July and who needs heat right? Well, the other morning it was rainy and cool and kids were dressed in shorts and said ….”We’re freezing can you put on the heat?”…Sure…After 30 minutes of HEAT ON HIGH..I realized its not getting any hotter and I think the kiddos were turning blue…so I am putting that repair off for another month at least.

My unexpected costs are just things that I knew I would have to pay for but just pretended I wouldn’t have to for a long time. Such as two different student loans, textbooks for grad school starting in August (disappointed that billy didn’t decode on case western reserve university in Cleveland!) background check fees for my social work licensure and internship, vaccinations and tb test to work in the hospital, etc. pretty much everything is school related bills that suck every penny out of my sad pay checks.

Way to go on keeping those white jeans! I’m the world’s worst when it comes to wearing white!

Reply

I’m DESTINED to spill on myself when I wear any sort of white. It always happens. Haha. I’ve been wanting to get a pair of white skinny crops, but I keep putting it off in fear that I’m going to spill all over myself.
And oh yes, ’tis life with all of those unexpected costs that randomly come up… I used to get so frustrated, but I’ve recognize that it just happens. Speaking of windshield cracks, I have one that I’ve been putting off to get fixed.

Reply

For someone who uses balsamic vinegar A LOT, wearing white is extremely dangerous for me :)!

I have had a crack in my windshield for about a year now. My husband took my car to get it washed last summer and something happened in there and the windshield cracked. I’ll get it fixed eventually but it is not growing or obstructing my view so for now it stays.

No home office here. I use the kitchen table and my husband uses tv trays. We do have a spare bedroom but that is too full of other junk to be turned into an office.

Loved the opening ceremonies. I was kinda crossing my fingers that “spice girls” would preform…they would’ve fit right in! :)

love milk w/crushed ice! :) have a great day today & have fun at your baby shower!! xo

We loved watching the opening ceremonies last night. I teared up as the torch rose and became one large torch. So excited to watch gymnastics, swimming, diving, track and field and marathon! Way to go on the pants staying clean. I have yet to do that with anything white I wear.

Reply

I started watching the opening ceremony expecting it to be dire (being British I can say that :P) – I mean, a field and a load of ransoms dressed as old-fashioned people?! But I was proven wrong and totally LOVED it!! Brilliant!

We drink loads of milk. My husband has semi-skimmed (4%), my two little kids drink literally tons of whole milk and I prefer soya milk. It sits better in my stomach tastes nicer. So for a family of 4 we end up with quite a lot of milk in our fridge!

We have had several things to pay out for unexpectedly lately (new brake discs for the car, new washing machine, new running shoes… lol). Luckily my husband got 2 pay rises shortly after, just in time. Tithing works ;)

I love your blog! I read it everyday since I discovered it :) You’re so funny and upbeat! Good luck with the new baby. I totally recommend a baby jogger – it makes for running and baby’s nap time all in one go! x

Reply

Kate!!! Thank you so so much for your sweet comment! You made my day! YES, I have a feeling the baby jogger is going to save my life!

Reply

PS You are so right about tithing!

love your home office! mine is my laptop on my kitchen counter!
also love your marathon watching idea…boy would that be fun. then we could have PART II on august 12th for the men’s marathon!! three canadians running – yahoo!!
have a great day, janae!

unexpected groceries hehe, I ended up running out of food early, so I ended up spending more, not what I wanted but oh well, I had to eat :)

My home office is my bed ;) or the garage (where I type and watch the bf workout). A home office could be anywhere :)

Lactose Intolerant, so no milk for me :) Use to love it before I became lactose intolerant. I would drink it after every run. So so so good!!!!

I watched most of it!!! But I feel asleep……

Come Check out my blog here: http://runningsprinkles.blogspot.com :)

Ross always joked that when I bought bibs for out babies, I should find adult ones for me. It’s rare I don’t spill while eating. Good to know I am not alone.

Super stoked for the Olympics..and so arr my kids. It will be so fun to watch it together! !

Reply

I had three different dings come up on my windshield in like 3 weeks! (this was about 3 months ago) Anyway, praise the Lord I ended up paying zilch, zero, nada. My insurance covered everything!

Um, chocolate cake sounds so good right now. ;)

Reply

Oh no! I didn’t even know that could happen when they fix it.

My car battery died this week. I didn’t have any warning and it’s only 2010. It was over $300 to replace. Gotta love the Prius.

No home office over here.

I drink chocolate milk after my workouts. so good!

Reply

Just this morning I have learned (the hard way) not to eat cereal with milk at midnight, the night before a early 6am run. My stomach felt horrible and I kept burping the whole way :( I love my milk. Especially chocolate milk :)

I have sort of a home office? In my purse/bookbag. I’m hardly home so I usually take everything I need, everywhere. Book, workout clothes, food lol

Something unexpected come up? Well, I want to buy a Garmin. haha.
And other than new loans for the fall. Nope.

I actually missed the Olympic ceremony, and will probably miss everything else. I work all day, unless I watch them at work ;)

Reply

I really really hated the ceremonies. Except for when the queen jumped out of the plane, most everything else was either creepy, boring or nothing to do with the gravity of the Olympics. I too am very much looking forward to the marathon!

Reply

I need new tires on my car, but my husband decided to drive his mini cooper over a median & that needed $2800 in repairs (we went through insurance so only paid the deductible). The garage door spring also broke this week. Our fridge died on the Fourth of July. LOTS of unexpected expenses popping up recently!!

Reply

Hey there, I just found your blog while looking up other healthy blogs. I love it so I added you to my google reader! I need to get back into running. The weight was falling off when I was and I need that again LOL

Congratulations on the baby! (and if youve ever given cloth diapering a thought and want to learn more, im a consultant for diaper parties ;) look up diaper parties by vanessa on facebook :))

Reply

HEY VANESSA!! Thank you so much for your comment wahoo! YES, get back into running, it is the best thing in the world… I am addicted:) I will definitely look you up!

Reply

I also work from home, so I set up a desk in the closet in the upstairs guest bedroom (I can’t have any background noise like the dogs or tv). When I’m done working I just shut the closet door!

Reply

My sewing room at our previous house was in my daughters’ playroom closet. It was a nice sized walk-in that perfectly fit my table and chair both inside. I miss my little room!

Reply

We are almond drinkers in this house. Although my niece came to stay with me 2 weeks ago and I had to buy 2%. We got her the all natural stuff from the local diary and of course when she left, we had some left over. I made overnight oats with it and not going to lie-they came out really tasty.

Reply

YAY for the Olympics!!! I loved watching the athletes walk in. SO excited about this years’ games!!

Reply

I don’t currently have a home office. Most of the time I have my laptop at the dining room table. I am currently deciding whether to make a space in my bedroom or dining room for a small desk.

I don’t drink cow’s milk. It kind of grosses me out. Occasionally I buy it for my girls if they really, really want it. We always have almond milk on hand. Regular and chocolate. But they only get chocolate if they workout (run, walk, hike, bike, swim, class) with me. It’s workout juice! ;-)

I honestly didn’t really care for Opening Ceremonies. And I hate that I didn’t love them because I really wanted to! I just found it boring in a lot of parts and hard to follow in others. By the time the athletes came on I was falling asleep and only made it to the S’s. I totally missed the USA!

Reply

sorry to hear about the windshield! i’ve heard that’s possible. thankful, that’s one of the few things not troubled on my car.

i have my desk in my bedroom, but i adore it. i just bought it early this year from ikea, and it’s advertised as a “workstation for two.” gives me awesome room for my gigantic computer and still room for notebooks and writing. :-)

i adore milk. i used to drink it nonstop. and especially loved it with pizza. now i usually buy soy and almond milk, but when i have the real stuff around for EP, it’s my favorite thing to put in coffee.

AND, i haven’t seen any of the olympics yet, because i don’t have cable. maybe i’ll go bother my parents today so i can watch some at their house.

Reply

Great job eating so neatly dressed in whit pants! I always dirty my white jeans whether its food or just good ol’ dirt.

Also, awesome job on selling your furniture before you move and your adorable daughter arrives, because her “stuff” will take over your place, and your living room will be as colorful as a bag of skittles :)

Reply

I missed half of the opening ceremonies and was so upset! I saw the beginning with all the weird costumes, though. The best part was that we were watching it in a restaurant without sound. The entire time we kept trying to figure out what the heck was happening and failing miserably.

Reply

count me in on marathon watching!! I was discussing with my boyfriend last night about how winning a gold in the marathon would be the best event to win in because there is nothing like the marathon in the Olympics in my eyes, pure dedication and guts! It’s a huge accomplishment to even complete a marathon!

Reply

Sorry about the windshield! We have definitely been there with unexpected expenses and they always seem to come from the cars. We have a desk but usually end up sitting on the couch with our laptops to work. I don’t drink milk because I am lactose intolerant. :( I personally LOVED the opening ceremonies! I thought they were classic and entertaining and got me very excited for the Olympics which I am watching right now!

Reply

I can’t even own white pajama pants because I get coffee etc. all over them. You should be SUPER proud of yourself!

Reply

Ha! Not only do I need a new windshield (crack going halfway across on the passenger side) but… a DVD got stuck in the built-in player. The mechanic claims it will need to be replaced in order to have a functioning unit…and that will cost over $1000. I told him to find a place that reconditions/repairs said units. He’s looking.

We have a cl-office…closet-turned-office :)

I really enjoyed the opening ceremonies. I thought they were well done and moved quickly and smoothly with so much talent. The little boy had an angels voice for sure.

I wasn’t thrilled, however, when NBC decided to censor us and not show us part of the show that was a tribute to the 7/7 terror attacks in London. Really unfriendly. If anyone wants to see them, here’s the link. It’s a nice tribute.

i was wearing pale yellow pants yesterday, and i was SOOO proud of myself for not spilling on them all day!!! we are TWINS, because i am always spilling on myself too. go us!

LOVED the opening ceremonies! of course, the parade is the best part. it really got me (even more) pumped up for the games to begin!!!! SO excited!

We loved the Opening Ceremonies, but, being British, we were kind of bound to. I did think some bits were a bit dull but we loved most of it, especially Bond and the Queen, Mr Bean and the amazing Olympic torch lighting!!! But we’ve already had UK heartbreak this morning when our cycling boys didn’t manage to win…we’d kind of assumed they would walk it. Maybe a little arrogant on our behalf, not theirs!

My Half Marathon tomorrow has been upgraded to Olympic Half Marathon…I’m taking my flag to wear with pride when I get my medal!

Reply

keep your window repair receipt.. We had to fix ours and my boss said if we sent the receipt in to our insurance company.. they would pay for it.. it was worth a call and sure as sugar.. they did!! I don’t know why they pay for it.. but when I called the auto prop had it’s own digit.. so I guess it’s common.. can’t hurt to ask =)

Reply

That is an AWESOME idea, thank you so much! We will totally be calling our insurance company.

Reply

The opening ceremonies were very odd. I was confused by them ha.
I do the same with my white pants, I look like a freak because I layer napkins or sweaters over top of them and underneath (in case there is something on the chair). Got to make sure you don’t stain those things!
I’ve actually never liked milk ever. My parents tried to force me to drink it but bleh, just not a milk fan at all.

Reply

I got a crack in my windshield this week to! It came out of nowhere!! Good thing is most companies come to you to replace it!! You don’t even have to leave your bouncy ball ;) If you claim it was a rock that hit it while you were driving your insurance will cover it. ;)
Ps chocolate cake and ice cream. yes please!

Reply

I loved the opening ceremonies. Then again, I currently live in London so maybe the proximity to the event and the overall atmosphere had something to do with it. I’ve already staked out my viewing spot for the marathon race. Am planning to arrive in the wee hours of the morning if need be just to make sure that I get to see the race!

Reply

All I could think of when I read your blog was one of my favorite quotes from Sex and the City. “I will NEVER be the woman with the perfect hair who can wear white and NOT spill on it.”

Reply

Hahaha yes!!!! I am obsessed with that show and I love that episode!

Reply

I could NOT get into the opening ceremonies last night. I did enjoy the end of the bike race this morning. 155 miles? That is a bunch of tight hineys!

Reply

Oh my gosh yes! Isn’t Gabby Douglas the absolute cutest?!?! And congrats on your non-spilling victory! I can barely own bottoms that aren’t black or navy for this very reason. :)

Reply

lol my apartment is my home office – studio! And I didn’t get to watch the opening ceremonies, I don’t have a TV! I finally figured out how to get live streaming today though!

Reply

Unexpected cost… a ticket =\ for not wearing my seatbelt… oops…

And I, apparently, don’t get any stations with the olympics…

Reply

That is quite the accomplishment on the clean white jeans… and I type this while I notice I have quinoa in my hair from dinner :)

Reply

We were JUST wondering when the Olympic Marathon was on. I’m tired of watching all of this cycling.

I love milk. I used to drink so much as a kid that my dad called me a milk monster.

Reply

I have no problem declaring August 5th a national holiday…it’s my birthday :) Kidding…I actually hate celebrating my birthday but am sooo excited for the marathon on that day!

I liked the opening ceremony but was very annoyed when the camera showed Lebron and Kobe for the majority of the time. There are so many incredible athletes on the U.S team and they choose to show them?!? Ugh…

Reply

I thought the olympic marathon was scheduled for sunday august 12th?

Reply

She is my fav too.

You’re not watching tv while at your “desk” are you? Hahahah
