Ragnar tips and date night a night early.

Silly headphone cord got in the way of my artistic photo.

Poor Billy has to try so hard to keep up with me.  Okay, I was and walking (I did 8 miles in the morning) while he rocked his speed workout.  I just love being at the track and I love singing out loud to my music and I love sunshine.

Thursday nights are our usual date nights but we moved it to Wednesday night this week because of a dinner with my girlfriends that I am going to tonight.  You know how we love free date nights more than anything in this world?  Well, we were able to use a gift card from this gorgeous girl to get SANDWICHES (I would choose a sandwich over a donut now, my body has gone completely nuts).

Black forest ham and pepper jack cheese for me:

I don’t remember what he got because I can’t get past the fact that he put olives on his sandwich:

We finished season 1 of White Collar and I don’t think it was the pregnancy hormones that made me cry…dang, this show is addicting, I feel so invested in these characters lives.

Say hello to 19 year old Billy.   Wasn’t he just the cutest?!?!

IMG 0343

So the guy in the middle needed a runner to join his Ragnar team and Billy decided to join!!! Neither of us have ever done a relay race and yes I am borderline really/beyond/better do one someday jealous.  I can’t wait to go and cheer him on next weekend.  The Wasatch Back is the original Ragnar and he is running leg 11.

Doesn’t that elevation gain look fun on his first leg.  1830 feet elevation gain over 7.3 miles:)

———————————

Have you ever ran Ragnar?  Ever ran a relay race?  Any tips for the Billster?  Anyone running Wasatch Ragnar?

Olives or NO olives?  (I will love you unconditionally…)

Last show/movie/commercial/book that made you cry?

What is the age difference between you and your significant other?

-We are 6 months apart (this random question came from 19 year old Billy picture because I was thinking about how I was in high school when that picture was taken).

I bet Billy will have a great time running Ragnar–I have heard such good things! I am sure Billy will miss you belting out the tunes while he runs;-)

No olives, I don’t hate them, but I would never put them on a sandwhich.

My husband is 5 years and 3 months older than me.

Have a wonderful Thursday Janae!

I hope Billy has fun – good luck to him!

I hate olives…and tomatoes and raisins…anything squishy really.

Danny and I are 2 years and 11 months apart. I like that I’ll always be the younger one…lol!

GOOD LUCK to Billy!!
1.I’ve never run a relay, unless you count running a relay race at a track meet?? :) (like the 4×400)
2.NO olives. Yuck.
3.Last show that made me cry: Giuliana & Bill. Makes me cry every.single.episode. I just love her so much (& her name ;) ), her story is incredible & it all hits SO close to home with the breast cancer stuff.
4.Craig & I are 6 years apart. (he’s the older one! :) )
& did I read that correctly, or am I still half asleep….you prefer Subway over donuts?! Ok, these hormones ARE out of control:D

No olives, ever ever. I hate when olives are added to vegetarian things without disclosure – too salty! My husband and I are 2.5 years apart – right now he’s 29 and I’m 26. :)

Reply

From the Ragnar recaps which I’ve read, it sounds like such a blast- I am sure Billy will have the time of his life! I never normally put olives in a sandwich but when it comes to Subway, they’re always on- it just seems necessary!

Reply

there is a relay race I want to do next year in Cape Breton on the Cabot Trail, it looks awesome.
Umm, noooo olives. just extra pickles:)
there is 3.5 years between us, he turned 30 this year so I made lots of ‘fun’ of him. He keeps telling me I’ll get there, but it’s so far away lol;)

Reply

I’ve never run a Ragnar, but I’m volunteering at the Chi Ragnar this weekend.

Mike and I are three years apart, he’s older.

I like olives, but I have to be ready for them. Surprise olives are the worst.

Reply

What’s wrong with olives on a sandwich?? lol When I was little, my go-to Subway sandwich was ham with black olives. It was delish!

i LOVE white collar. my whole family is addicting. just wait til you watch more!

I think I need to suggest date night to my hubby. I feel like we don’ t see each other enough because he works an hour away and I have a 45min commute to school on Mon, Wed and Fri’s! So implementing date night hahaha

You two are seriously so cute and how does your hair ALWAYS look so nice. I might need pointers soon. Maybe curling is the key haha

Reply

I love White Collar! I went through all the episodes on Netflix way too fast… it is just such an amazing show, and I love the relationships between the characters. :)

Reply

Um, olives just completely gross me out. I’m not even saying that just to be your BFF, I don’t even like the looks of them!

My hubby is 3 years older than me.

Last thing to make me cry was a movie I had already seen, Fireproof. What a tearjerker, even when you know what’s going to happen!

Reply

I haven’t run a relay…yet! Ragnar is at the top of my list, but not this year, unfortunately. I’ve heard that it’s incredibly fun, though!

My bf is 4 months older than me.

Love olives! especially on Subway sandwiches and pizza

Relays are fun. I ran Rouge-Orleans last yr and thought it was great fun. I don’t know if it’s already planned or can be planned, but having a driver is super helpful..and I would prefer a running partner, especially for the night runs, but that’s just me. Pack full changes of clothes for each run he does..and dry stuff for the end.. Lots of stomach friendly snacks, and drinks, of coarse..
Never olives, but my son somehow loves them.
I cry at everything (pregnant, but I definitely cry more since becoming a mom.. Guess it doesn’t stop with pregnancy).. So probably dr Phil.. Or criminal minds.. Maybe the basketball game..
My husband is 3 yrs older than me..not that I’m keeping track or anything..

Wasatch Ragnar was my first race a few years ago! It was so much fun, he’ll love it. Know the routes, because some were mis-signed, and I particularly remember that our runner 11 got lost and added like 3 miles to her last leg (I was #12 so was waiting on her). I hope they fixed the parking at the end, cuz my team wasn’t able to get up to the finish in time, and so I was just like hanging out there waiting for them so we could all cross.

I love olives. In my family it’s like a sin if you don’t like them. :) I cry at way too many things now with all the hormones…I cried during So You Think You Can Dance auditions the other day…but the worst was when I absolutely bawled at the theatre over The Vow. There are 3 years and 4 months between us.

Reply

I hope you’ll still love me: YAY FOR OLIVES! And I’ve never run a relay but I’d REALLY love to! (I’d even give up olives… for a little while. haha)

My man and I are 24 days apart. My birthday is oct 5th and he’s the 29th! There was definitely something stupid that made me cry last month when I was pmsing and I’m having a hard time remembering it. Something stupid on tv no doubt. Sometimes you just gotta let it out!

Reply

OLIVES!!!! I love them, I’m sorry I’m not sorry. I’m a country music fiend and sometimes country songs make me cry…while I’m driving, it’s fine.

Reply

Olives all the way. I add them to a lot of stuff = pizza and mexican food.

P.S. I Love You makes me cry every time, but I’ll watch it just or Gerard Butler

Reply

I’ve done the wasatch back twice. It’s always fun for me until I only get an hour of sleep then I vow to never do it again :). I was runner 11 last year but they must have changed the course a little bit, my first leg was only about 3.5 miles! He’ll have a great time, they are addicting!

Hi! New reader! Love the blog. Definitely olives. Yum!

HEY BROOKE!! Thank you so much for commenting and your sweet words. I will send you my olives:)

I love how you guys make sure to do a date night each week. My husband and I really ought to do it. I think it’s easy to get swept up in the craziness of the week. We see each other a lot but it’s hard to get that good quality time that comes from just being alone somewhere WITHOUT a TV. Anyways, even something as simple as subway is a good and fun idea.

I have never ran a relay race but want to, I just put it on my fitness bucket list I blogged about :)
HATE olives.
The Glee finale, haha…
16 months, he is older.
Good luck to Billy!

I have never run a relay and don’t think I will, I do not do well with no sleep. I did volunteer in May for Ragner Cape Cod. Two of my friends ran it. I looks like most people were having a great time.
NO OLIVES!
My husband and I are 18 months apart he is older.

Billy is just so cute, I definitely have a thing for engineers. My husband is 4 months older then me, but was a grade older then me in highschool.

cute pic! when is the relay? the midwest ragner is this weekend, not doing it but would like to one day.

It starts a week from tomorrow. I’m pretty excited about it…

Reply

I’ve done a run to the beach relay!

olives, by the bucket, but not at Subway. Those are canned. eew.

The cop is 11 years older than I am.

What can I say? I like older men.

Reply

Billy will love the Ragnar experience! I’m running my first one this weekend (yikes!) and so far, everything about it has been awesome. Two big things for him to work on prior to the race are to make sure his team has two vans (my team only had one arranged and are now scrambling last minute) and to make sure he gets a safety vest. I’ll let you know of any tips I pick up along the course!

Reply

Never run ragnar, but I want to.

I like olives; have you ever seen the How I Met Your Mother episode where they talk about the olive theory? Where if one person likes olives an the other doesn’t they are meant to be? haha

Me and my hubby are 6 years apart so when he was 19 (in the MTC) I was 13! Ha! Gross. lol

Don’t know if you looked at the Utah Valley Expo info, but one of the biggest loser peeps is speaking at the symposium and I know you like that show almost as much as me.

Reply

I’ve done 2 relays (1 Ragnar, Florida Keys, highly recommend it). Have Billy pack each running outfit in a ziploc bag, then it’s easy to get to and after running in it the bag helps keep the smell out of the van (although that will happen regardless).

Second is that at some point in the predawn before sunrise, you hit a low that is just plain misery. You’re cold, tired, and usually have 1 more leg left to run. Once the sun comes up and you start running the last leg, it is the best feeling in the world and all that misery goes away.

Reply

I’ve ran it the last 2 years and it is AWESOME!!! No doubt he will be addicted! My only advice….suck up every moment! It truly is the funnest race experience I’ve ever had!!! Oh and pre race training…..one thing I would recommend is doing the 2 day runs! Didn’t do it the first year, and I was in van #2…so wish I would have! :)

Reply

I have been invited by different groups of friends to run Ragnar every year for the last 6 yrs and I have yet to do it! What is wrong with me?? I have done the Red Rock Relay though and I had a blast! Billy will too, I am sure. Gotta love pre- mission pictures where they look so young. It’s like they look the same, but they don’t. Makes total sense, right?

Make sure you strecth reaaaaally good after each run before you sit in a van again for a long time. And bring your foam roller.

Olives. I could eat a whole can in 1 sitting by myself. Can we still be friends?

My hubby and I are 2 and 1/2 years apart.

Reply

woohoo, how exciting for Billy, i cant wait to hear how he does!

sorry, i’m a solid olive lover here…Billys sammich kind of made me drool a little. I hope we can still be friends ;)

I teared up over the last episode of Mad Men a little bit…so sad :(

Me and Kev are 6 years apart..i always tease him about the age difference (aka, hey when I was in 8th grade you were already in college, bahahaha) but our birthdays are in the same month so we are both libras. pretty cool!

Reply

NO olives (sick!). My husband also loves them though, ick!
Husband and I are 6 months apart also! Almost to the day. And his bday is tomorrow, woooo!

Negative on the olives…

My boyfriend & I are 5 1/2 years apart, he is almost 28, and I will be 23 in October. Age is just a number… ;)

The last show that made me cry was the CBS evening news on Monday. They did a segment on an 11 year old boy with cerebral palsy who was running a 400m race in his school’s track & field day and was behind everyone else, clearly in pain, and so his teacher ran up beside him, and then the rest of the kids followed and cheered him on to the finish! His Mom was there and caught the whole thing on video. I’m such a sap for a touching story (and no I’m not pregnant lol).

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-57446940-10391704/boy-with-cerebral-palsy-goes-viral-with-inspirational-field-day-run/

ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!? Who is on your team again?

I’m runner 11 too! That first leg looks like a beast. Seriously. I’m SO excited though. I’m on Jen Cavanaugh’s team so it’s guaranteed to be awesome!!

Reply

Haven’t run ragnar but hear its a blast! I love green olives but dont care too much for black olives. But i can eat them if they’re in something and i’m feeling lazy and dont want to pick them out. The hubs and i are 7.5 years apart.
Where are those sunglasses from? I love them!

Reply

one of my best friends who I run a lot of relays with ( a guy) did wasatch back 2 years ago. He had that same leg listed in the elevation photo– he said that every.single.person had to walk part of it. The hill was just too steep to waste energy trying to run up it. Although its going to be hard, at least everyone else will be in the same boat when they get to the neverending ‘mountain’

Reply

Ragnar is awesome! Leg 11 isn’t super bad especially compared to the Ragnar leg that thing is a beast I think it’s leg 10. I’m sure he’ll do awesome! I’m so jealous I want to do another one so bad!

I used to love olives a lot but now there just okay.

My husband is ten months older than me so after my birthday on Sunday we’ll be the same age until August.

Reply

That’s so cute that you walked around the track while Billy did his workout! I didn’t know you guys were so close in age–that’s awesome!

I actually love olives! Both green and black!

Ew I HATE olives, with a passion. My boyfriend loves them too and it grosses me out. Luckily I never buy them so I only have to see him eating them at his parents house when we go visit.

A Ranger looks awesome! I’m actually running the Reach the Beach relay in October in NJ. Same concept, different name haha. Can’t wait to hear how he likes it!

Reply

My husband (who is 8 months younger and graduated high school a year later) and I LOVE white collar and olives….

This is my 5th year doing Ragnar and my 6 relay total. I LOVE it! Billy will have so much fun! Make sure he enjoys every sleepless moment, especially running across the finish line with the team. Eat and drink whenever you think about it, get to exchanges early just incase you need to use a honey bucket, don’t pee on the side of the road (it is against the rules), cheer for other teams, soak up the craziness, encourage those you pass (the roadkills), enjoy the awesome feeling of running in the dark (it is very peaceful), get a headlamp that clips to a visor (they don’t bounce as much- I got sick one year watching my headlamp bounce), a race number belt is helpful (get 2 and rotate between runners- then you don’t have to worry about your number when you change clothes), make sure your team stays with you as long as possible (we had a runner get hurt 2 miles in on a 9 mile run), most importantly HAVE FUN!

Reply

I will forgive you about the olives because you love white collar. WOW!! 6 relays…you are awesome. Thank you so so much for all of the advice and I will definitely let him know about not peeing on the side of the road! Actually he reads all of the comments so I am sure he already read yours so I will say thank you for him!

Advice for Billster: double knot your shoes.
All joking aside, everytime I race now I think about it. In the tri last weekend, in T2, bike to run, double knot and a shout out to B.

Last cry: the song Fields of Gold by eva cassidy.

I am SO SO HAPPY that you think of Billy before your runs/races and double knot your shoes. I need details about how your tri went! I am going to youtube that song right now, wahoo!

Billy is going to LOVE Ragnar!! Still holds the title for best weekend of my life. I wish I could run in the mornings, I’m do jealous you get to take advantage of this amazing weather. I hope I run into you guys at the race this weekend, I’m convinced that we should be friends:)

On that same note, if you know any cute single LDS runners, send them my way! None of the guys I date understand my obsession with half marathons :)

I am a single LDS runner! Fun times! :) I live in Arizona though!

Sorry, but I’m an olives girl. I also don’t put cheese on my sandwiches.

My husband is 9 months older than me, but of all my friends, he’s the closest in age. Most of my friends are 5-15 years older than me.

Ohh Ragnar looks so fun! I so badly want to do one, one of these days…maybe the one in Napa…

I love black olives in my Subway sandwiches!

My S.O. and I are total opposites! I can be fairly high strung at times but he’s always the laid back cool guy…and always very supportive. It’s nice to have someone that appreciates my craziness.

I do put olives on my sandwich – I love them!! And I love the cute shadow picture of you two :-)
The age difference between me and my boyfriend is 4 days – and I’m older!

I did a local 60 mile/6 runner relay and had a blast. We weren’t very competitive which annoyed me a little. But if I ever have a chance to do one again, I’d love to.

I very much dislike olives on sandwiches…

I cry at everything anymore…

I’m 8 weeks older than my husband.

Reply

I’m usually a no olive person, but every now and then I’ll find something with olives that I do like. Never on a sandwich though!

Daniel is four years and two months older than me. I can’t help but make jokes about it on a regular basis. :)

Reply

There are 4 years between Colin and me :) but it’s actually more like 5 b/c I’m a december baby and he’s a January….so as soon as we’re 4 years in age he turns 1 year older making it seem like 5 ;) this year I’ll be 30 and in jan he turns 35

Reply

The first race I ran was a 6-leg, multi-sport relay race. I had the 5K leg. My leg was the last part of the race, I didn’t like that since it was my very first race. But overall, it was so much fun! My tip would be to train in the part of the day that your race is. I didn’t. Big mistake. I usually run early morning. My leg was mid-afternoon. It was 40 degrees hotter than I was used to. It hurt.

Olives! Lots and lots of olives! Glad we can still be friends.

Reply

I’m jealous too!!

Reply

I’ve never actually done a race. I am a new runner and so scared to sign up for anything yet!

No olives on sandwiches, but when they are mixed in other stuff sometimes I like them, but only if they are cooked.

My boyfriend is actually 5 1/2 years YOUNGER than me! We think it’s way funny, but people always think we are about the same age. Apparently I am immature, YAY!

Ragnar is awesome, this year will be my 4th Wasatch Back! He just needs to make sure he eats plenty and doesn’t really plan on sleeping :)

Good luck Billy! That is a crazy 7.3 mile run but he can do it!! Love his 19 year old photo!!

I’ve never run a relay but am thinking about trying to do the Reach The Beach relay next year! My husband has done 2 Ragnars on Ultra Teams and loved the experience.

I like olives in my salad, by themselves, or sometimes with pasta, but not in a sandwich.

Greys Anatomy ALWAYS makes me cry.

We’re actually only a day apart! His birthday comes first though so he always jokes that I don’t know how it feels to be as old as him :)

Oh and LOVE the shadow photo!

I hate black olives, but once I had some green olives in Italy and they were soooo good!
Good lucky Billy! I did a relay once, the run leg of a triathalon with my two sisters. My husband is 2 1/2 years older than I am.

I’m running Ragnar from Madison to Chicago starting tomorrow!! This is our 2nd year in a row…..it is SOOO much fun!! Billy will have a blast, and you’ll have fun watching!!!! :)

The last book that made me cry…I’m reading “Bowerman and the Men of Oregon” right now and cried like a baby at the part during Prefontaine’s Memorial Service. TEARS galore!

My boyfriend and I are exactly 1 week apart!

Enjoy Ragnar!!!

I’ve never run Ragnar, but someday I hope to. I just think it would be awesome to compete at running as a team sport rather than the solitary race environment.

My husband and I are about 8 months apart (he’s older).

I’ve been crying at the drop of a hat lately. Makes me want to go take a pregnancy test haha Seriously, though, I got teary eyed yesterday while my kids watched Backyardigans. My hormones must be going crazy.

We need a runner on our team…..want to join? I am being dead serious here. There are 4 of us running UVM so we are just doing Ragnar for fun. I am running with Holly & Stephanie and they’re Hubbys and we just had the 6th runner drop this week. Free Costa Vida for life……..think about it!!! It is the easiest leg and we will pamper you and take extra good care of you……

Hey GORGEOUS!! How long are each legs? I am down to a 10 minute mile ha….you really don’t want me I am sure:) I didn’t know you are running UVM on Saturday. Are you shooting for a pr?

LOVE Ragnar!
-Have 3 diff running “outifts” complete with fresh socks separated into ziplock bags..one for each leg.
-extra pair of shoes just in case he encounters mud/water
-don’t expect to sleep for 36 hours
-bring lots of yummy snacks easy on the tummy
-head lamp/reflective vest and a blinkie light for the backside as well.
That’s just a few off the top of my head…he will have a blast!

Last show/movie/book that made me cry: ugh..16 and Pregnant. Shameful I know.
No olives on sammys

I like olives…sorry. I crave them after running. Hello salt.

Tell Billy good luck! I ran leg 11 a few years ago. He’ll love it. The up hill climb on the first leg isn’t too bad and the last leg will totally make up for it. It’s pretty much all down hill!! Anywhoo… good luck!

Reply

I used to be strictly no olives on anything but I have since grown tired of picking them off of things (the bf LOVES olives on everything). The last thing that made me cry was the latest Google commercial…the one where the guy is listing off reasons why his ex(?)-girlfriend should meet him for lunch (I just think it’s so cute…I don’t know why I cry everytime though). Erik and I are 2 1/2 years apart – he’s the older one.

Reply

New reader and fan! I’m also pregnant too and craving feeling good running again!

I ran the Wasatch Back two years ago. It was a blast. I think the hardest thing was balancing what to eat in between legs. It was also hard for me to get back in the van after running each leg and sit for so long. It was so much fun! And exhausting from getting no sleep! Good luck to him!

Reply

HEY KAYLEE!! I am so happy you commented:) Congrats on your pregnancy and I can’t agree with you more…we need some GOOD feeling running again asap! That is so cool you did Wasatch Back! I bet that was killer to sit in a van after running ha..wow!

janae, i feel inclined to tell you that i’m an olive lover. regular black olives, green olives stuffed with blue cheese, green olives stuffed with almonds, greek olives, and then green olives stuffed with pimentos, in that order.

billy looks soo young. that picture reminds me how little guys are when they go into the mtc! aww. and i CANNOT believe you are still such an avid runner. you are awesome.

If you or sissy want to run it let me know!! Of course, maybe the elevation would be a bit much for a prego, although I’m sure you could do it!!

Once again, you’ve triggered my Subway cravings. I love olives- but only black olives. My husband and I are five years apart. He’s older, and I love to remind him of that each and every single day. :)

Hey Janae!
I am running the Cumberland, MD to Washington, DC Ragnar! I am so excited!
My pops ran the Wasatch 100 miler a few years back.. Billy is going to have oh-so-much fun with that elevation.

I love olives, sorry! They are like my favorite food!
My husband is 8 years older than me. I didn’t realize this for several months of dating – he looks younger than he is and I just assumed and didn’t ask. One day he was talking about his 10-year high school reunion and I was like, “What?! How old are you?!” Big surprise. I thought he was maybe 4 years older than me if I had to guess!

I’ve done Wasatch Back twice & the Vegas Ragnar once. It is THE BEST!!! Skipping out this year :(, but hoping to do it next year!

Instead I’m doing a 2-man marathon relay on June 30th… the Wasatch Back Marathon in Midway. I’m runner 1, and the 1st 7 miles has an elevation gain of 2500 feet. I AM NERVOUS. I’ve been trying to train hills, but…. nothing like that!

Good luck to Billy- He’ll LOVE it!

I was supposed to be running the Sawtooth Relay this weekend but our team captain missed the sign up deadline. Boo. I’ll do it next year for sure. And hopefully Ragnar too.

Love me some black olives!

Lots of stuff makes me cry lately. I would think I was pregnant if I didn’t know any better. I love the olympic moms commercial. It makes me cry every time.

I’m 16 months older than my husband which was awesome while we served our missions because he left before me and I got home 3 weeks after him and we wrote each other every week while we were both serving. Loved it!

Wow, good luck Billy – and good luck to you cheerleading!!

I am running Ragnar in September — Adirondacks! So excited!! I heard that it helps to pack your outfits in separate bags so you can change fast. And to bring lots of deodorant.

SLOWEST blog comment-person!
Second year doing Ragnar. Last year runner #6, this year runner #3. LOVED it.
Tips to Billy-camera-take a picture the little moments to share with janae. Even the LINES at the porta potty’s, traffic, cool van decor and costumes.
Have cash handy for food, showers, small town lemonade stands. know where it is in your bag.
Good luck balancing snacking & eating between runs. HYDRATE!
The hangover on Sunday will be the WORSE! oh just wait!
Get out of your comfort zone: be willing to cheer on strangers and make small talk with strangers.
Don’t feel too bad when BYU XC team passes you….they are amazing.
Look for people you know. You will be surprised the random people you see along the route.
I made the mistake of taking a nap before we got to a school to sleep. I didn’t sleep well cause I had the nap. grr.
Obey the volunteers!
Really-the worse will be having to walk. Don’t hurt yourself, but accept if you have to walk. Your mile pace should be a lot slower on your last run! accept it too!
Trust your captain or person putting it all together. but also ask questions about the details you gotta know-food, driving, costs

Love olives.
Last time I cried? HBO movie: Taking Chance
Age difference: 3 1/2 years. My non runner hubby is going Ragnar with me again. He says the team atmosphere drives him to do it again.

Oh my gosh I am so jealous he is running the Wasatch Back! My family did it 4 years in a row and then it was full this year (even though I would have been out this year anyway, its still sad) :(. Tell him he needs to bring more food and water than he thinks he will need and warn him to sleep at any chance he gets because you don’t really get any.

My husband did leg 11 the last 2 years. He loved it!
