Back to myself again and BROOKS REVIEW!

June 10, 2012

Twice in one week?  I am feeling back to my normal self again.  I don’t think I mentioned it on the blog but there were a few months that froyo just didn’t sound as good as a steak did but don’t worry it now trumps all other food again.

DSC 1715

Yesterday we had a meet up at my second home with a bunch of the cutest runners ever.  Most everyone ran the 1/2 or full marathon that morning and so I think you know what we talked about for 2 hours straight.  Only runners understand other runners need to talk obsessively about pace/times/races etc.

DSC 1716

PS we finally saw The Avengers with my parents last night and loved it, I didn’t mind that it was so long because I had a large popcorn and shared a root beer with my dad.

Photo

Leave it to my dad the inventor to think of punching a second hole into the lid of our root beer to keep our straws separate.

—————————————–

Brooks sent me some sweet new running gear.  I have been in heaven trying this stuff out because as you can all agree…running clothes are infinitely better than real clothes.

I can’t think of anything better than a new pair of running shoes.  These are the Glycerin 10s and I have been running in them for a little while and also ran in them for the 1/2 marathon yesterday.  I was really surprised at how comfortable they were, my feet felt great after the race when lately they have been hurting after long runs in my other shoes because of the weight from the extra human being I have been carrying around.  The shoes are flexible and they are definitely my new go-to shoe.

DSC 1695

Let’s talk about the Infiniti Short II.  They are flattering, there are two pockets (I used one for chapstick and one for the car key), they have the built in underwear that I love and most importantly they are comfortable and I didn’t chafe in these babies.  Bye bye Nike tempo shorts, you have been replaced for good.

DSC 1698

Welcome to the Women’s Epiphany Support Tank II. I have three favorite things about this top:

1.  The built in sports bra helped BIG TIME if you know what I mean.

2.  The material is so soft and the mesh really helps with ventilation and staying cool.

3.  It is LONG.  I find it really hard to find a workout top with a built in bra that is also long enough but this one did it.

DSC 1701

You knew I would have to throw in a baby bump picture too.

DSC 1703

Can’t wait to try out the other fun colors!

—————————————————-

Do you run in bright colors or do you stick with black/grey running clothes?

-I used to only buy black workout clothes but I am loving BRIGHT fun colors now.

Do your non-runner friends ask you about your running?  How long can you talk about running before they start getting bored?

Do you own any Brooks Gear?  What?  Do you like workout tops with the built in bras?

Last movie you saw?

Laura Rios June 10, 2012 at 3:42 pm

I live for all Brooks running gear and shoes! They are definitely more expensive than running in some Target capris but they really do the trick! I have been running in their Adrenaline GTS series for a couple of years now and swear by them.

Reply

Elle June 10, 2012 at 3:42 pm

I usually stick to black bottoms but my tops are often bright. It is especially great when you are at a race and highly visible, for family and friends who have come to watch.
My non-runner friends ask me how a race went or ask about any runs since I last saw them but I know they don’t really want a play-by-play so I tend to keep it short and sweet.
I don’t believe I own any Brooks gear. I have been eyeing up the PureFlows for a while but have ye to actually get them. The gear you showed looks great though- super cute!

Reply

Nicole June 10, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Loving the bright colors on the Brooks gear! I run in Brooks Pure Connect (purple!), but I’ve never bought their clothes. Looks like I should try them though; im always looking for a fun, breathable tank top!

My non-running boyfriend has been really good about putting up with all my running talk, but I think I should spare him some of it….perhaps a running blog is the way to go?

Reply

Lindsey June 10, 2012 at 3:47 pm

I like black tank tops (show less sweat!) but colorful shorts and of course colorful runners!
Some of them will ask me questions but I try and keep it short and not go over board, but I could go on and on and on if they wanted me too!
I do not own anything Brooks, and am not a fan of built in bras since usually they do not fit me right.
We snow Snowwhite and the Huntsman last night!

I always wear bright colours! They make me happy and my workouts feel like they are just THAT much more amazing when I’m in fun gear! :)

I’ve never tried any Brooks gear but you’ve got me super interested, especially in the shorts!! I love the length of them!

Robyn June 10, 2012 at 3:52 pm

Ah! Those gray and blue shorts need to GET IN MY LIFE!

I am pretty much a strict Nike on bottom and UA on top girl. I LOVE the nike capris and tempos and I won’t run in anything other than my UA charged cotton tees and tank tops. LOVE THEM.

Lauren June 10, 2012 at 3:55 pm

You are totally right, workout clothes are way better than real clothes. I’m loving all the bright colors right now!!
My poor parents, sister, roommate etc. are forced to listen to the ups and downs of training. They act like they don’t mind haha :)

Couldn’t agree more with your review. I’m pretty much strictly a Brooks guy….shoes & clothes. I think they make the best quality running gear out there.

I’m totally into NEON workout clothes now too! Everything must be neon… it makes a fashion statement PLUS it is safer because drivers can see you better!

If I didn’t know you were pregnant, I wouldn’t even be able to tell from the first full-length picture! You are doing such a great job of staying healthy while taking care of your little baby.

Last Movie was Snow White and Huntsmen. Yay for everything but Kristen Stewart as Snow.
You are so darn cute!

I love running in bright colors. I don’t own any Brooks running clothes but I like the shorts and top you modeled. I have been looking for another brand of shorts to replace my Nike tempo shorts because I don’t really like the material for running.

I can’t even remember the last movie I saw in the theater. It may have been before my daughter was born. My husband and I tried to see a movie last weekend while my parents babysat but the movie we agreed on was canceled. Just our luck!

YAY for fro-yo..I’m glad you’re enjoying it again :). The last movie I saw was The Avengers. I really enjoyed it! I now want to see the new snow white movie with Charlize Theron! And those running shoes sound amazing. I may have to check them out since I’m in need of a new pair!

i have the Brooks Ghost 4s and LOOOOVE them! they’re the best pair of running shoes i’ve ever owned (in my opinion). i have super wide feet and i need lots of cushion, both of which they have.

I just saw The Avengers, too! I thought it was good. Probably would have enjoyed it more if I’d known anything about all the super hero characters though. :)

Oh, that fro yo looks so good! I need to find a place that has those little fruity bead things. I used to be all black and white, but now I’m all about color. I usually run in purple Nike Lunarglides or Brooks PureConnect, but I just got a pair of the Asics Gel Noosa Tri 7′s and they are BRIGHT! And awesome, of course. I really like my Brooks Glycerin running tanks. The bra is supportive and a little bit shaped (no uni-boob) and has a handy pocket on the back that I like.

Liz (Little Bitty Bakes) June 10, 2012 at 5:10 pm

AH I love Brooks running shoes! I have ravennas and also the pure cadence from their pure project line.

I always seem to run in bright colored clothes. They’re so much more fun than white, black or gray :)

Reply

Rene June 10, 2012 at 5:13 pm

I don’t have any Brooks gear but I seriously need that tank top. I love obnoxiously bright running clothes. I look a little like Ronald McDonald when I am fully decked out.
My non-running friends definitely fon’t get my running talk so I limit it. They really think it’s amazing that people regularly run 5, 8, 10+ miles so I’ve learned not to say I only ran 5 miles today, etc.

Reply

Allison @ Running Through Red Lights June 10, 2012 at 5:16 pm

I run in the brightest, most obnoxious outfits under the sun, and I love it! I always feel like I get a ton of weird stares at races because most people are wearing neutrals and black/grey shorts, but I don’t care!

My non-running friends definitely do not understand what all of the hype is about. :-/ They may ask about a race or training, call me crazy, and then change the topic. I absolutely love talking to running friends! We talk about running all.the.time!

Reply

Jenna June 10, 2012 at 5:22 pm

I LOVE to run in fun crazy colors, plus I am a bit obsessive about making sure my shoes match my clothes! I can talk to my friends about running for a little while, but they lose interest pretty quickly as they just don’t understand why in the world I love to run anyway :/ I LOVE my Ravena Brooks, especially for my long runs!!! Those brooks shorts look super cute, I am definitely going to have to try a pair!!

Megan @ Run Like a Grl June 10, 2012 at 5:24 pm

Love that top!! I have to find it, I’m always looking for new summer running clothes!

I have a mix of black/grey clothes and bright colors. I’ve been wearing lots of brights lately, its fun to do as a runner because its allowed :)

I own Brooks Adrenaline sneakers and love them to death. Brooks is the best!

Ahhhh i’m so jealous of you janae, I LOVE my brooks glycerin 9s…I used to run in the glycerins when I first started running and then I was all over the place for a while but came right back to them…the glycerins are also the first shoe i’ve run in lately that have given me NO problems. the cushioning is awesomesauce :) I’ve been eyeing the 10s and waiting to hear the verdict on them so i’m excited to see you got to try em out!

I love love love wearing bright workout clothes…my running clothes are all over the place color wise.

my non runner friends ask me how training is going from time to time and Kevin has to listen to it all the time…he’s the best because he actually pretends to be interested, hehe :)

Last movie I saw=Snow White and the Huntsman!

thanks for your review of the glycerin 10s, janae! we just got them in this week at the running store where i work, and i haven’t tried them on yet. i LOVE the brooks ghosts…and the brooks “run happy” tshirt has been a great seller in our store this spring!
i race in black and train in colour. if i can look like i stepped out of the 80s-90s, even better.

Tiffany June 10, 2012 at 5:38 pm

My goodness girlie how do you get so much great gear? Love that top – I’m 5’11 and it is IMPOSSIBLE to find tanks with built in bras that are long enough for this giraffe :) I’ve never owned one and I’m not sure I ever will (they never seem to hold the girls tight enough without being too tight everywhere else – and are usually more low cut than I’m comfortable with!) but I might have to check out yours.

I wear the Adidas Marathon 10 shorts and I LOVE them. I used to wear some other workout shorts that were thicker and rode up all the time. They are great for other sports but soooooooooo happy I switched to real running shorts. I go for the bright colors – even if they don’t match, makes me happy :)

Reply

Megan D June 10, 2012 at 5:39 pm

So those clothes are awesome. What I wouldn’t give to have someone send me running clothes to try out. Also, what I wouldn’t give to look as frickin awesome as you do nearly 30 weeks prego. I am insanely jealous.

I always swore I would never wear a running skirt and then I tried on a Brooks PR mesh skirt…needless to say, that is what my kids gave me for mothers day this year and I love it. No shafting, longer than most running shorts and sooo comfy.

I love bright stuff…as was very apparent by my clothing choice yesterday. ;)

Ross and I watched reel steel the other night. It was pretty good. Avengers is on our list of movies to see. Want to come watch our kids so we can go see it? Lol.

Loving the shorts and tank top, wicked cute and colorful! I have both black/gray items and colorful items. I don’t have any Brooks gear for myself (yet) but my husband has a whole closet full of Brooks shoes and he has tons of their shorts and shirts. I don’t really talk about running with my friends except for 2 that occasionally train for triathlons. I mainly talk to my sister and of course talk my husbands ears off. :) He loves it, clearly.

I have a few shirts and shorts by Brooks but I am a Brooks sneaker junkie! I have at least 10 pair (every time I buy a new sneaker, I have a hard time letting go of an older pair). I was wearing strictly the Adrenaline but have recently been swearing by the Launch and the Ravenna. The Launch make me feel really fast!!! I wear the Cascadia for hiking, they’re great! I will be buying the PureCadence in that awesome pink color. Can’t wait to rock those!
Oh last movie I saw was tonight! I watched Finding Nemo with my almost 5 year old son. I think I love that movie more than he does!

Hi Janae! I have a random unrelated question… :-)
I’m about to start training for my first marathon…the Marine Corps Marathon in DC in October. I’ve run a half marathon and consistently run 35-40 miles per week. I’ve been looking around at training plans and don’t know which one to choose? I want to choose a plan that will best prepare me but it’s overwhelming because there are a lot of options out there! Do you have a suggestion of a good intermediate-ish training plan? I would SO appreciate the advice of a rock star runner like yourself!

I LOVE Brooks! Currently I have 2 pairs of the glycerine, 2 pairs of the ghost 2, and 3 pairs of the ghost 4 under my bed… Too many? Haha. I love all of their running gear and, if I could afford it, I’d have a whole lot more than I already do. You can tell Brooks to send me anything they want, I will gladly take it ;). I have a friend who is sponsored by Brooks and he gets all sorts of amazing things and I secretly wish I could steal it all from him.

I typically run in orange and maroon (college colors) because I have way too many t-shirts from college.

Congrats on running the 1/2!

So clearly the answer to your question is I love bright colors for workout clothes. But usually only one bright piece and then the rest of the outfit black or white. I don’t want to be a giant ball of neon running down the street.

I love the extra straw hole invention. Me and hubby used to do that same thing but we stuck the straw in the same hole and we kept his straw tall since he is tall and put mine all the way down because I’m shorter than him and that’s how we remembered which straw to suck out of.

I started to read this post earlier today, but as soon as I got to the picture of your frozen yogurt I slammed my computed shut and told my boyfriend that we had to get froyo ASAP! hehe :) Anyways, it sounds like you had a really fun day!!

Personally, I always always always pick the most colorful clothing I can find when I go shopping for running gear (which may or may not be the majority of my spending when it comes to clothes). Especially with sneakers. I have one pair of bright, neon coral Nike sneakers and EVERY SINGLE TIME I go to the gym SOMEONE comments on how cool they are! :D I also love bright running shorts!!! For shirts I tend to keep it to more neutral colors, but everything on the bottom half of me is almost always the brightest things possible.

I love bright running clothes, the brighter the better. My regular clothes tend to be more on the subdued side, so I’m not sure why neon is so attractive in workout gear.

I like the idea of having two pouches in a pair of shorts. That could really come in handy if you’re not running that long to have a Fuel Belt on but still need some kind of fuel plus your keys.

I live in my Brooks Adrenalines and Glycerins. Both are great shoes. Never tried their running tanks or shorts. I stick with navy or black for bottoms but more fun colors on top. As for built on bras…can’t do it. Most have some sort of shelf bra in them or are S/M//L type. I use Moving Comfort bras and then just throw a tank over it. Love the Moving Comfort since I buy them by bra size and I don’t like “the girls” to move while I run so I have the uber anti bounce bras.
Good for you to continue running through your pregnancy. I ran a marathon while pregnant with my daughter and continued to run until about 6-7 months. After that it was too stressful on the ligaments and moved to walking, elliptical and others.
