Thanks everyone for your comments about the pregnancy and running interview…..you better believe I will let you know when it is on the second I find out.
Time for some tangents.
1. Yesterday they asked Billy a question or two about what he thinks about my running while pregnant and his main answer was that he loves it because it makes me a little less crazy but he just used nicer words to say it. I seriously don’t know what either of us would do if I wasn’t able to still get my endorphin fix with all of these crazy hormones.
I let Billy experience how awkward it feels when someone comes up and starts rubbing your belly. You can tell it wasn’t his favorite. (PS his shirt was on backwards because it had a logo on it and they didn’t want that on camera).

2. I am legitimately mad at Costco and will be boycotting for the next 14 days. We went in to load up on fresh fruit galore and as we were trying to pick out the best watermelon I asked the guy working in the section to help us out. He acted as though he knew everything about watermelon picking and picked one out for us.
I cut it open last night at 11 pm while Billy was out running and it was the worst watermelon I have ever had. I am enraged. At least I can just dream about the delicious watermelon that my school served yesterday.
Costco, you better watch your back.
3. Today’s workout was a 4 mile run while watching the first part of The Bachelor and probably a little elliptical later on.
4. I absolutely REFUSE to switch over to the new (is it still new?) timeline on Facebook until they force me. Every time I get onto the dang thing it makes sure to let me know how much cooler I would be if I used timeline but I push the not now button every single time. I am actually kind of mad at Billy for switching over when he knows how passionate I am about this subject.
5. Let’s just say today was boring at work. 98% of the students were gone at Lagoon and so I sat and stared at the wall until I went to lunch with my teacher friends.
Turkey and avocado sandwich slathered in thousand island sauce…I asked for the sauce on the side but they forgot and I always feel really embarrassed to make them take it back.
6. I did get one very important task done today. I have officially graduated from my huge bulky iPhone case to a smaller one since I haven’t dropped my phone forever and can’t decide which one to get…what do you think?!?!

What are some tangents from your day?!
Look for the yellow belly for a watermelon!! That’s what my mom always told me and it works pretty well. My fiance does think I’m crazy but I think he knows (like Billy) that I would be crazier if I didn’t get my workout in. Those are SO cute… I get my iPhone cases from eBay… they are like $5 and probably aren’t the highest quality but what can you expect for $5?!
Case #1 or 3. And I also refuse to switch over to timeline. I am not a fan!
I was told that, when picking out watermelon, I should “spank” it; if it sounds hollow, it’s ripe. However I did this recently and my watermelon was not quite ripe. It was edible, but didn’t have that sweet watermelon flavor. It was just.. bland. So sad. I hope some folks comment with tried-and-true methods for picking watermelon!

I always heard that a watermelon should be heavy for its size. Like when you pick up a small one, you should almost fall over. :)

Btw, Monica from run, eat, repeat (i believe thats her blog) loves watermelon and has a video or blog post on how to pick the perfect watermelon. She is obsessed with them.
I don’t know if this is true but I’ve heard that when a watermelon is “good” when you knock on it, it should sound hollow. At least this is how my boyfriend and I choose our watermelons and people in the grocery store just stare at us like we’re crazy!

I wish I knew how to pick a good watermelon, been craving one bad but have been stuck with a fee bad ones in the past. I am also mad at Costco, the $9 container of pre-cut mango I bought last week went bad 10 days before its best before date! Urgh.
I love the ocean picture. My partner is happy I run he’s supportive but I can’t wait for the day he realizes how cool it would be to run with me! My days just started but I’ve dropped the nearly 5 y.o. at kindy, washed the car and watched the wiggles with my lil lady:-)

My husband is super supportive of my running- he has had to take 5 kids to a couple Saturday morning soccer games by himself while I do races. That’s support! He just registered for his first half marathon, too- so excited for him.
I love that site!! I would say the elephants since I am obsessed with them. I even have a pinterest board dedicated to elephants :)
I just ordered a super cute monogrammed iphone case from Etsy! It is a chevron pattern and has my initials- and you can customize your own!
I hate watermelon so I can’t help you with that one- but I can pick a perfect pineapple!

I just saw an article on picking a good watermelon. You want it to be fairly uniform in shape … if it’s bigger on one side than the other, that’s not a good sign. You also want to look for the heavier one in the bunch b/c it means it’s jucier. AND you want to look for the yellow spot somewhere on it. That spot means it was allowed to stay on the ground long enough to get nice and ripe before it was picked. :)

I feel the same way about Timeline! Facebook should just stop making changes because timeline stinks! Thankfully I haven’t been forced to do it yet and I’m avoiding it at all costs. I wonder how much longer we can escape it.
I swear watermelon picking tricks are like old wives tales. I have used em all – sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Nothing is sadder than a gross watermelon. Did you know that Costco guarantees their fruit? Just go back (you don’t have to take your watermelon, just the receipt) & they will refund your money.
Your belly is so cute. How come you look so dang good prego? Your running while pregnant is so awesome. People that think otherwise need to get with it;) the girl on her 9th kid?? Holy crap. She is amazing! Congrats. On the interview! So excited for you.
My husband thinks I’m crazy and after my last half marathon, I showed him some race pictures and he said it looked like I was just speed walking : p And I love the UP cover and the ice cream one. I can totally see you with either one of those.

We always thump the watermelon to make sure it sounds “hollow” so that we know it’s ripe. However, I usually get mine at the farmers market and ask the grower to pick out the one he would want. THAT basically guarantees a good one!
I was bored at work today too – it was exam day so my students just sat there taking my tests. I did catch up on some (blog) reading though!
OH! I almost forgot! My other tangent – I did my first run on my 1/2 training plan! It was a super short run, but it was still my first official training run! YAY!

I’m the say way at restaurants–I’m always too quiet (though polite is a nicer sounding word) to return an order mistake! Unless it’s something crazy different I just go with it.

My tangent. My preemie is officially on the chart for his height. It might be the 1 percentile but hey! it counts! :D He’s also .5 percentile for his weight! He’s 2.5 months old weighs 8 pounds 6 ounces (up from 3 pounds 4.5 oz when he was born) and 21.5 inches long (up from 17.75 inches when he was born).
Congratulations! That is a “BIG” deal!

I hated when people rubbed my belly when I was pregnant. With my third one I would just reach out and rub their belly back, look dumbfounded and say “Is this the new way to say hello now?”
I was so angry when i got switched over to timeline! I was totally resisting it too haha. i still hate it!! I totally use fb less because of it!

I have a silly question you have probably answered a million times. I noticed you eat lunch meat still. I am 19 weeks along and I eat it too. I’ve done some research and listeria seems to be a very low risk. Do people bug you about it? Did you already answer this somewhere on the blog? Its just nice to know someone else is also eating it because some people get soooo crazy about it, and sometimes I feel bad for eating it even though it tastes so good and I think its safe.

Hey Tessa! I actually haven’t talked about it yet:) My doctors say it is totally fine to eat lunch meat as long as it is coming from a good source and that I eat it at the right temperature! I am not too paranoid about this kind of stuff. Good to hear others eating it too because I crave it big time.
I like the sparkly one! Even though we have the same Otterbox case, I like the sparkles! My Otter has buttercream stains all over it from my job.
And I haven’t switched over to timeline either! I don’t like it at all.
I love curly’s p.j.s!!! So cute! I have no idea how to pick out good fruit–I always have to call my mom or sister and ask for a detailed description of how to tell if its ripe/over-ripe.
My husband says he hates running/me running/anything to do with it….but if i am crabby he is the first person to say “I think you need to go for a run”. Plus he is looking to buy me a treadmill and then he said “maybe I will run on it too” ;-) I think I can get him to catch the running bug.

Tangents: I have NEEDED to run everyday for the past 5 days. I think it has to do with the end of our school year being oh so close, but oh so far away.
The hubs loves that i run. He says my genuine love of getting out there makes it motivating to become the best cyclist he can be. We do our workouts at the same time, and I like that.
I just can’t bring myself to change over my facebook page either.
I go for watermelons with a hollow sound when I knock on them. Don’t ask why? I have no idea, but it works! I hate the new timeline, but once you press the button, there is no going back. Don’t do it!
Go with the Up one. It is super cute. And the ice cream parlor featured in Up is awesome and you love ice cream.
Ugh. Don’t get me started on Timeline. They switched me w/o my consent and I feel violated. I do not know how to switch back. I hate it!!!

Definitely the elephant! And I feel like I was timeline-ambushed. I signed on one day and I had been timelined without consent. I haven’t created a background because I feel like ignoring it will make it better.
I gave up sugar for the month and it is not fun. I had to go to costco tonight to get some turkey/veggies, etc and it was torture. They now have GIANT red velvet cupcakes. Delicious smelling pasties, 5 pounds bags of candy.. none of them really seemed to tempt me. Then out of nowhere, boom. Watermelon. I literally had to run away before I bought one and ate it all in one sitting.
Oo, I would check out TechCandy. They have very unique covers and they’re SO cute! I got the yellow and bronze combo and I absolutely love it!

Wow the Billster runs so late- props to him! I feel your watermelon woes…I just cut open a pomegranate and I was NOT impressed- damn roadside fruit stall! That bit about it being awkward when people randomly rubbing your tummy made me crack up- I never realised what the pregnant person must be thinking while we are oohing and aahing at the kicks!
If you go on shutterfly (or any of the photo sites, I’m sure) you can creat a custom iPhone case with a photo. I think you should do one with the 3 pair of running shoes that you posted with the baby ones in the middle because that was the cutest thing ever!!
I love anything with BLING! So the flashier the better. I also love pink. So, any phone case that is shiny or blingy is my choice for you.
Interestingly enough, I was at Costco on Saturday picking out watermelons with my nieces. So, my father who is the connoisseur of watermelon selection, was contacted to assist in this endeavor. He gave the following steps to selecting a delicious watermelon:
l. Knock on your forearm, now knock on the watermelon. If they sound the same it means that the watermelon is overripe and will be mushy inside.
2. Knock on your forehead, now knock on the watermelon. If they sound the same then it means that the watermelon is half mushy and half ripe.
3. Find a piece of wood and knock on it. Now, knock on the watermelon. If they sound the same then the watermelon is just ripe inside.
4. Look at the stem that was attached to the vine. It should be somewhat green which means it was recently picked. A dried out yellowish brown stem area means it is not fresh.
5. If you look around the watermelon it and it has those marks around it looking like yellow veins it means a bee has stung it for its sweetness.
Of course my nieces and I had a ball laughing at this advice. One thing I do know that all of the watermelons my dad picks are DELICIOUS! Hope this helps LOL!
I heard that if you look at the little end where it is broken off from the stem (the circle) and it’s big, it’s sweet (the bigger it is, the sweeter). All I know is it has to be sweet but also hold firm enough so it doesn’t just become dust in my mouth, you know? A little crunch/something to chew is definitely a must.

I just ordered a personalized phone cover from case mate. Love it! It has a slot in the back of the cover to store your ID and credit card. People have been coming up to you and rubbing your belly without asking? Wow, how rude and awkward. I like the Up case! I switched over to Timeline and now I regret it and wish I could switch back. I’ve tried to figure it out before but can’t. Now I’m going over to Facebook to figure it out again!
My husband is also a runner, but he’s not as dedicated to training as I am and doesn’t keep any kind of schedule or training plan…his job isn’t conducive to that. He was upset with me within the last month that I chose running over a couple house projects. He used the words “running addiction” in a bad way. It hurt my feelings, to be honest.
I wish I could work out as much as you guys do (not just running but also going to the gym etc.), I really enjoy it and it’s my favorite hobby, but now I have to readjust my priorities and time a bit.
If anyone else has experienced this, I’d love to hear from you.

I absolutely LOVE the UP phone case! That’s one of my all-time favorite movies!
My husband is my biggest supporter when it comes to running! A lot of friends and family don’t get why I love to run and think it’s down-right crazy, but my husband is my biggest fan! I’ve always struggled to find motivation and some days it’s a real chore to make it out the door, but he’s always right there with me! Billy seems like he’s such a great supporter and he’s always right there with you!
I love the phone case with the water. It’s the prettiest! As far as watermelon goes, when you knock on it, it should sound hollow. It’s usually just the luck of the draw for me after that. I love watermelon and one day I really want to see if I can eat an entire one in one sitting. My current significant other is very supportive of my running and we actually run together a lot. We’ve done three half marathons together this year. It’s great.

The case fits wonderfully and I get so many compliments because of the art. Plus it feels great knowing you are supporting an artist who designed your case :D If those are your choices above, I really like the 3rd and 4th one.

My friend’s dad worked at a grocery store when he was a teenager, he said old ladies used ask him to pick a good piece of fruit out for them. He had no idea how to tell if fruit was ripe or not but made a big show of squeezing/tapping/smelling the fruit for them, and that they would come back every week raving about how he picked the most delicious fruit.
I guess the Costco guy couldn’t pull it off.

1) I’m a mega creeper and have been lurking for forever and am commenting now to say that you are my running inspiration!!! As someone who used to HATE running and weigh 210 pounds and is currently 75lbs lighter and ran 10 miles today….well…thank you :) It’s bloggers like you who give me hope and inspire me to run, even if I don’t feel like it because it’s good for my body. Hopefully if I ever get married and have babies I’ll be able to run like you.

OR you can get whatever image you want made into an iPhone case and custom fit it. My dad’s fiance has her granddaughter as her case, it’s super cute :) Plus they offer different levels of protection for people who manage to drop their phones all the time…AKA me!
