A First……..

May 1, 2012

I don’t know how I got so good at convincing people to do what I want but somehow I talked Billy into coming to yoga with me last night for his first yoga class ever.

The cutest Megan is a personal trainer at a new gym called The Lab.  Sorry Golds Gym, but I think I am going to be leaving you for somebody else.

Photo

The class we went to was a Power Yoga class and it was the best yoga class I have ever been to.  There were only 4 students which made it so the teacher could really focus on each person individually and adjust them if needed.  It was the perfect combination of strength, sweat and stretching.

His first class and he mastered the twig pose…aka holding your body above the ground with one leg to the side of you and one leg behind you.  I’m not jealous at all that he does everything perfect the first time he tries it and I end up getting mat burn on my face when I try it.

Who knew that doing yoga caused a huge puff of hair on top of your head?  Thanks again Megan, Billy loved it….he said it is going to be our new Monday night tradition.  I think that this will help him get even speedier and injury free.

We came home and put together the fastest dinner in the history of mankind.  Mini tacos (thank you Costco), grapes and Chobani.  It looks as though my plate is missing something called ‘a vegetable’ but don’t worry, I took my vitamins minutes later.

Our advice for a happy marriage is to watch America’s Funniest Home Videos together every night.  It is actually kind of embarrassing how hard we laugh while watching this show.  It is impossible to be grumpy while watching other people get hit in awkward places, practical jokes and kids doing funny things.

I love my gym! They have 2 locations, both in Virginia Beach. One of the reasons I love it is because it does not have the chain feel. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, the classes are amazing and they do alot for the local community. Clearly I could go on and on :)
I woke up at 5:15 to go and workout. Fruit.. Bananas and strawberries. Yum!

That is awesome Becca, I love that kind of gym…..my gym is the opposite ha. I am so happy that you have such a great gym and great job getting up so early! PS can I have some of your strawberries?

I have a gym in my building which is cool but the downside is that there are no classes. So I’m on the prowl for a good gym that I can go to and just take yoga, pilates, kickboxing, etc classes. I need the motivation from exercising in a big group!

I have a ton of bananas in my house. I’ve been addicted to them lately and make a mean flaxseed smoothie that I put them in.

I woke up today at 7 to study for finals all day. Boo!

Janae May 1, 2012 at 7:54 am

NO CLASSES….booo! I am glad that you do have a gym IN YOUR building, that is convenient. Good luck with your finals Megan, you are going to rock them!

I was a member of my gym for 5 years, but then I switched to a smaller gym because they offered BodyPump classes. The girls that worked at my old gym were so sweet and I miss them. They even threw my son a birthday party in their kids room. But then they also got rid of their kids room which is another reason that I had to switch gyms.

I love love love The Big Bang Theory! It’s so funny!

I have honeydew, mango, and watermelo in the house right now.

Janae May 1, 2012 at 7:55 am

I would definitely switch gyms just for body pump…I love those classes. They did a bday party for your son, that is so nice. Oh Big Bang Theory is incredible and I really love Penny! I need some watermelon right this second!

Fruit we have…Watermelon, Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Strawberries….seems like so much now that I type it out. Have a good day Janae!

I’ve been at my gym for a year and a half and I’m sticking with it while I live in this apartment in Chicago – it’s cheap enough for me as a student and it’s a half mile walk (plus right next to Trader Joe’s). Works for me!

And I got up at 5:30 this morning! Study, study, study! (also went to bed at 9:30… I’m just not productive at night).

Why aren’t there more boys like Billy in my yoga classes? It’s always a big, inflexible, clumsy guy that ends up putting his mat next to mine, and it’s an extreme challenge not to let him throw me off balance while he’s over there wondering why the heck he ever thought it was a good idea to come to yoga in the first place!

Good job on the convincing. He prolly just is scared to tell you “no” because he doesn’t want your prego hormones to attack him. I’m still trying to convince my hubby to come to a class of any kind with me!

Reply

Janae May 1, 2012 at 8:06 am

HAHAH I usually have the same experience with yoga classes and someone throwing me off balance ha. You are right, these hormones scare him to death…he will do anything to avoid them. Hope he comes to a class soon.

I think we’ve been members at our gym for about 4 years, it is fairly big and has lots of equipment so you never have to wait for anything! But it is a bit older so not too fancy.
6am, 10 minutes before my alarm! I have that habit…
Rules of Engagement and How I Met Your Mother.
Strawberries, grapes, bananas and apples.
I should try Power Yoga! Most Yoga is too slow for me, I like Yoga Meltdown and Bikram/hot Yoga but it was too time consuming – 90 min class for you have to go 30 mins early to get a spot!

Reply

Janae May 1, 2012 at 8:09 am

4 years, that is awesome and that is really cool you never have to wait for anything. I can never actually get up the first time my alarm goes off. Try Power Yoga, it was awesome and I am sore today! PS I need to watch those shows you mentioned, they look great!

I don’t have time for a gym membership between 4 kids and their activities, teaching full-time, coaching and running. I have a treadmill at home…. I wish I had time to take some gym classes!

We watched the show The Middle last night ( on demand, I think it’s Wednesday nights) I love that show. Have you seen Betty White’s new show?

I have been reading about The Lab on her blog and it looks like the bomb! Too bad I’m all the way in Texas.

I started going to my gym, Quality Life Fitness, on August 9th, 2011. Yeah, that’s really specific…It was my birthday and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the celebration than with a good hard workout! It’s a small gym, they celebrated their one year anniversary last year. The equipment and the classes are good, but I think what I like most is how you feel so welcome. The owner and class teachers make it a point to know everyone that visits or joins. I love knowing that when I go there it will be noticed because I’m not just a dollar sign to them. They even notice if I come at a different part of the day, and I love that!

6. Bright and early. I like taking my time getting ready, so that worked out great!

I watched ridicoulous last night and Justin Bieber was the guest! WIN!!!

I have the little cuties oranges/clementines/whatever they are.

That new gym looks amazing, so cute! I love the decor :) I was going to the Y for the longest time (though it’s really expensive here, I was paying almost $60/m0nth) but now I just use the treadmill at my bf’s parents’ house.. Their home gym is nicer, no one minds me watching Jersey Shore and 16 and Pregnant while I run and there’s never a line up for the treadmill. Win!

Scrubs was the last comedy I watched too! I’m making my bf watch EVERY SEASON – it’s a test, he must find it thoroughly hilarious and adore the Janitor before we can move on in our relationship :)

About my gym:
I belong to a small, cheap ($11/month) gym that has no classes for almost 2 years. I wish I could go back to my old, more expensive ($45 but now I think it’s $60) gym, but I can’t justify the expense. I did buy a Groupon for spinning classes there though. I could also join the community center, but it is kindof out of the way and they don’t have a lot of cardio machines. They do have a pool for that triathlon training I keep saying I want to do. I’m not totally happy with my gym choice, but I spend a lot of time outside anyway.

This morning: I was awake sometime about 3, possibly because of a thunderstorm, but I’m not sure. I woke up at 6:30 and didn’t go running…instead we’ll go tonight after work. I finally got out of bed at 7:30.

What fresh fruit do you have at home right now?
I tried to cut up a mango I had in the fridge for a few days, but it’s not great. I have old grapes that are not doing well, oranges, apples (to eat during golf on Thursdays), and bought about 3 pounds of bananas (husband eats two at a time). I’m going to Portland Oregon on Friday for a conference, so I didn’t want to stock up this week.

Speaking of that–I’ll think of you when I have my layover in Salt Lake City!! Any suggestions for cool Portland places to go in the city (if you’ve been there?) I’m sneaking out of the conference to run a half marathon Sunday morning, too, can’t wait!

I just started working at Lifetime Fitness, so I also have a membership there. I love it. It’s such a nice facility. I love all of the classes they offer, plus there’s a spa and a really nice outdoor pool!

I don’t have a gym membership. I prefer to workout at home or run outside. It saves me money, plus I don’t have time to workout at the gym. I usually get up around 6:30 am to clean or workout before my kids wake up. I have apples, oranges and grapefruit in the house. I love yoga and haven’t done it since my pregnancy. I think it might be time to dig out my yoga mat.

13lbs of strawberries. No joke. I might have gone a bit overboard at Eckert’s.

I belong to Gold’s too and love that it is cheap and has classes. I wish there were more yoga classes offered. A few months ago my Gold’s had a special where you could pay so much down and get locked into $19 a month and you can bring a guest anytime.

The gym I teach body pump at has 2 big waterslides !and has about 10 group fitness classes a week, bikes with a simulation screen so it looks like your riding in forest, about 30 treadmills , cafe, 50m pool spa, sauna & steam room :)
Google : leisure link geelong .
I love it there but I also go to Fenix in Geelong when im sore /injured for a cycle class- the instructor is the best he’s really motivating!

I got up this morning at 5.39am to practice body pump in the lounge room !

I have just started doing yoga nearly everyday using ‘yoga for runners’ DVD. It’s really good I’m sO flexible now !
Not much fruit in my fridge right now , shopping day is today !

I am obsessed with apples right now, Golden delicious and Gala are my favorites! I have been eating one a day I think lol
I have been missing veggies on my plates also…but I try to include spinach when I can and broccoli every now and then, but I have been eating fruit and taking my vitamins. That counts right!

I am so jealous you get to go to The Lab. THe classes look so fun
I’ve been going to 24 hour for 5 1/2 years. I love the Group X classes. My new favorite is Nike Training Club.
My whole family watches AFV every Sunday night – it’s one of our favorite traditions.

I love my gym. Everyone is wicked nice & friendly. Best part about it is spinning classes. I just recently did my first class & was instantly hooked. I love the loud music, dark room, body dripping with sweat. It’s strangely amazing!

I wish I had a wake-up time today, but I never really went to bed! We had TWO tornadoes go through our house (it is still standing & we are OK) so I didn’t get much sleep last night. Normally, I am up at 7AM. I live in a very tiny town so we don’t have a gym. The nearest one is 30 minutes away so I do my runs outside through town.
I ALWAYS have fresh fruit in the house. I’m addicted to the Cuties, my son is addicted to grapes, and for variety I have asian pears, strawberries, and the ever-present and dearly-loved watermelon. I wish I was a farmer’s market.

I need to go to yoga more! I love it, but most of the time, I feel like I have too much energy or stress to work out after work and skip it. :( My gym’s pretty big. Not massive, but a good number of machines. I wish they offered classes more though! They only offer yoga like twice a week right now.

I’m glad the class was so good!! I feel like Yoga has been hit or miss for me. I’ve been at Gold’s for a little over a year now… and I still like it!

I belong to The Y. It’s the biggest gym our town has to offer. I really like the variety of classes it offers. My girls love the pool and the sports programs. Please just about everyone in town is a member so it’s always fun to run into someone we know there.

Cougar Town was on when I got home tonight. That show cracks me up!

Fresh fruit in my house right now is apples, bananas and red grapes.

Power yoga is the best, and I’m jealous of Billy’s arm balancing skills. Arm balances still make me feel like a weakling.
