Eating Technique, Jillian and NYCM

I am ashamed that my niece eats her donut upside down.  Does she not realize that some of the sprinkles will fall off and that there is a chance that some of the frosting will rub off by holding it like that?  At least she is good at admiring its beauty but I really need to help her with her technique.

I am also ashamed of my nephew for trying to steal my donut and my niece for choosing chocolate ice cream for her dipped cone, vanilla is clearly the better choice.

(Pics from last night when my family met up to hear the good news).   Both of my nieces are beyond happy that we are having a girl.  Curly has been telling my sister since the beginning that it was a girl.

This semester Billy seems to be busier than ever….he is taking spring classes (aka super sonic speed, the same material in a normal semester is covered in just 7 weeks).  While he spent the rest of last night doing homework I did Yoga Meltdown with my girl Jillian.

I had to modify a few things but overall it was a great workout and my arms are sore today, I really love how short and efficient her workouts are.

Jillian’s stomach and my stomach are looking very similar these days and how would it feel to just be able to wear one sports bra at a time again;)

Let’s talk about today (I am sorry my brain is all over the place and so this post ((like every other post I write)) is probably confusing).  I started off the morning with 60 minutes on the elliptical. I had my normal breakfast of cottage cheese with fruit and 2 hardboiled eggs and by 10:28 a.m. I was too hungry to settle just for my usual snack.  Since lunch wasn’t being served for another hour I had to go straight to my baked potato with laughing cow cheese emergency stash.  It did the trick and I was ready to teach again within minutes.  Lunch was still consumed an hour later.

I am not going to lie…..I really wanted to do the NYC Marathon again this year.  Billy being the logical person that he is told me that I probably shouldn’t try to run a marathon 2 months after having a baby but I WILL be there 2013!

Who will be running the NYC Marathon this year?  I need to live vicariously through you:)

Would you rather run the Boston marathon or the New York marathon?

Anyone have any fun/delicious dinner plans tonight?

What was the last workout that made you sore?

I would rather run NYCM.
But to run Boston wouldn’t be too bad, either.
I think both would be abso-spankin’-lutely amazing. :D

Reply

Agreed both would be incredible but I think NYCM will be my favorite marathon ever. Hope you are having an amazing day Michelle!

Reply

Boston Marathon would be on my bucket list.

I did 1 hour circuit training this morning and now I am sore beyond words.
Tonight I am planning to eat my cottage cheese with Swedish fish and apple tarte tatin for dessert..who needs dinner?

Reply

Seriously…sounds like a delicious and nutritious meal to me, enjoy! Great job on your circuit workout this morning!

I won’t be running NYC this year, but I am running Chicago!!!!!!

If I had my choice, I’d rather run Boston because it’s such a prominent goal for millions of runners just to be able to qualify! At least with New York you could eventually get in if you play their entry lotto for enough years in a row. =)

My physical therapist says that I have weak hips, so I’ve been instructed to do lots of squats in the weight room. I have been obediently following the directions and WOW is my butt sore now! You never realize how much you use your butt muscles until they hurt!!!

Reply

Chicago is definitely on my list….I want to run that one so bad. Good for you to follow the PTs instructions and yay for a sore butt….keep it up Emily:)

Reply

How do you get in to run NYC? Do you just enter the lotto and keep your fingers crossed? Or did you qualify for it? I entered the lotto but my name was not picked. Hoping for better luck next year!

Reply

You can qualify, enter the lotto or run for a charity. Bummer it wasn’t picked but I am feeling like we will both be there for 2013:)

Reply

I am not running NYCM in 2012 but WILL be running in 2013 too! I’m doing the 9+1 program through the NYRR for guaranteed entry and I already can’t wait!

As a NYer, the NYCM is first on my list. I’ve always dreamed of running that course since its my hometown. Also I’ve seen the runners for so many years, its my turn! I doubt I would ever qualify for Boston, but its always nice to dream! I’d love to run it someday.

No dinner plans today.. I’m babysitting so its most likely pizza or whatever the kids eat!

Reply

That makes me so happy….we will play in 2013 okay:) It is totally your turn, you will absolutely love it. Enjoy some delicious pizza!

Not running NYCM for same reason…BUT, seriously considering Philly b/c it will give me 2 more weeks. I actually went back and forth until the day we had to register (automatic entry), but decided it would prob be a waste of $255. You should do Philly – we can run it together =) =) And it’s only $90!! LOL
I would run NYC over Boston any day of the week – I have run both and in all honesty, Boston doesn’t come close to NYC. Might just be that I’m a NYC gal…
Hubby is picking up Italian food on way home. Forgot to mention that in my last comment. Craving italian food like nobody’s business lately. And creamy, really unhealthy sauces. I just say “hey, it’s what the baby wants”. HAHA
Last workout that made me sore -> I started doing butt/leg workouts again. Lunges, squats, lifts, etc. Barely able to walk the next day b/c I think I can just do the same weight and reps as I was doing a few months ago. Big mistake!
PS. My niece wants me to have a girl – so she can “do her hair and makeup” !! Glad that you have your family nearby – it makes having a baby (and life in general) better!! xoxo

Reply

I was actually going to ask you how long I should wait to consider a marathon after the baby. How long did you wait? Only $90…that would be awesome, seriously! I have heard that NYC is by far the best.
You better be feeding that baby what it wants ha! You are motivating me to do lunges etc again….let’s be honest, I will just live through you:)

Reply

Well, most people would say that what I’m doing is stupid…and if I didn’t plan/hope to run until the end again, I would agree…I’ve heard of some females who had healthy and active pregnancies run marathons about 8 weeks after (even a woman I knew who did an IM 10 weeks after). The big concern is fracturing your pelvis b/c everything down there loosens up when you are pregnant…so jumping back into high mileage can be risky. BUT, as long as I can maintain 30 or so miles towards the end, I think it won’t be a huge stress on my body. We’ll see. Going to take it one day at a time and not have any upset feelings if I realize it’s too much on my body. =)

Reply

I’m signed up to run Philly and it will be my first full! Not many people know yet because I’m a little nervous and want to get some training under my belt before I announce it to my friends and family officially! Janae…totally run Philly. We can go for froyo!!!

Reply

Oh that’s so fun! Philly was my 1st marathon TEN years ago! It’s a fantastic course, great fans, and easy access to/from start! Definitely a good choice for a 1st marathon. And I totally get not telling anyone until you get some training in!! =) YAY for Philly! See Janae – you should run it! Our hubbies can babysit the little ones =)

Reply

12 mile beach run was the last workout to make me sore.
Dinner? I am trying to decide between fried egg sandwiches or frozen pizza……..it is just one of those lazy dinner nights over here.
PS. last night we had baked potatoes with dinner, and mine was hitting some sort of pleasure center in my brain. I was thinking I bet this is how Janae feels every time she eats one of these babies. Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelish.

Reply

I’m not running any marathon yet! Just the Edinburgh half this May :)

I’d rather run in NY- I’ll never be good enough to run at Boston and there is so much pressure and I’d be scared of being last!

Tonight BF and I threw together chicken stir fry cause now we are back at the library! Feeling Billster’s pain!

I was last sore after mile sprints aka… Now…

Reply

Definitely Boston!!!! Although NYC would be fun. I did not get in thru the lottery the past 2 years, so I will keep trying. Boston will have to be a charity run at some point.
Leftover chicken, broc and ziti for dinner.
I started doing ab work again and it kicks my butt.

Reply

I think I’d rather Boston than NYCM, but both sound great!

Last workout that made me sore was my own that I did this morning–ouch!! I did a total body weights workout with cardio for 30 seconds in between. Killer!

Reply

If you eat the doughnut upside down the frosting and sprinkles hit your tongue first! Like eating crackers upside down so the salt hits you tongue first!

Reply

i wasn’t picked for nyc :( i was really upset about it. I feel like they don’t pick people who live here to spite us (and to get $$ from out of state/out of contry people on hotels/tourist stuff)

Reply

I’m in for 2012 and doing it 6.5 months after baby. My little guy was born last week. I hope I have time to train for it! NYC over Boston for me.

Reply

Hopefully I will be in NY for 2013! No go this year- darn lotto. I want to run it so bad. It will happen. The qual time is now 1:27. Beings that I am just on the verge of breaking 1:40 I don’t think an auto qual will happen for me. But if I don’t get in for 2013 I am one of the lucky ones that will get in for 2014 on the 3 year no acceptance rule. They just got rid of it so I feel pretty lucky :)

I am running Chicago and I fully plan on running Boston in 2013. Now if my body would just cooperate so I can get there :) HA!

Still super excited for you friend!

Reply

Ahhh Janae you are the sweetest! Thanks for linking to my giveaway :) I’m fangirling over here and also you are doubly awesome for spelling my name correctly, something people fail to do alllll the time. I’m sure you’ve dealt with that, too!

Maybe I’ll meet you at the NYC marathon in 2013! I’m going to start training for my very first half marathon this summer :)

About your niece eating her donut upside down…sometimes I eat them upside down so then the frosting makes direct contact with my tongue lol. More frosting taste!

Reply

By the way I’m kidding about NYC next year…in my dreams!! haha

Reply

Jillian Body Revolution, those videos make me sore all the time. I love her stuff!

I vote NY, both my parents were born/raised there and we still have family in Staten Island. A must do for sure! Thought about doing it this year but decided to save the money and pay off credit card instead of travel. Darn responsibility.

Reply

I found out yesterday I did not get into the NY marathon. I will now sign up for the Raleigh, NC City of Oaks. It’s the same day as NY but it’s local…no travel required. I do it every year, but every year they change the course at least a little. This year they are changing it a lot. It used to be so hard and so hilly they are taking some of the big hills out. Yay for that!

Reply

YES for NYC 2013. That is when I will be tentatively running my first marathon too (well not too because you have already run some…but I plan to be there!!)

Reply

I am running NYC this year!!!!!! I am beyond excited. It will actually be my first ever full marathon too! My boyfriend did it in 2010 and neither of us were chosen in the lotto for 2011. However, both he and I (being NY Road Runner members) did our 9 NYC qualifying races and volunteered at 1 to get guaranteed entry this year. Woohoo!!

Reply

Curly was right all along!!! And I WISH you were running Chicago this year, but don’t worry, I got over it quickly. Baby GIRL! > Chicago 2012. I’ll run it for you, don’t worry.

Reply

Congrats on the exciting news!!! So excited to see mini-Janae running around!!

I am running the NYC marathon this year and couldn’t be more excited!!!! I cannot wait to run 26.2 miles in my most favorite city!!

As for fun dinner plans, I’m meeting some friends for dinner at Porcupine Grill in SLC. We all used to live in NYC together so we’re getting together to reminisce about the good ole NYC days!

Reply

I didn’t get in this year, most likely because they don’t let in a lot of NYers because of guaranteed entry option. I may be able to qualify with BK Half in a few weeks. But, I’ll definitely be running it next year! I can’t decide between the two, so I would run BOTH Boston and NYC. They are both awesome!

Reply

I really want to run the NYC Marathon some day. NYC is one of my absolute favorite places and I would love to run through ths streets. I’ve entered the lottery the last 2 years but haven’t gotten in. I don’t see myself qualifying for it by time so unless I run it for a charity, it probably won’t happen.

We’re having take out pizza and salad tonight – I’m already excited about it!

Reply

I’m in the same boat. Apply next year and if you get rejected again we can both definitely run it in 2014 (we’re the last year they’re allowing that!!! :-)

Reply

Sadly I got rejected again this year from the lottery. But the good news is that I’m the last year they are excepting for the “3-consecutive year rule” so if I get rejected again next year I can definitely run it in 2014. I was thinking about maybe just actually training (like do speedwork, something I don’t do) to try to get my half marathon PR time down from 1:40 to 1:37 to qualify but then saw that they also changed the qualifying time all the way down to 1:27. A whole ten minutes faster? Nope, that’s never gonna happen, just not in my arsenal. So I guess I’ll just wait until 2014. SO I’ll have to live vicariously through you next year!!!! :-)

Reply

I’m running New York this year! I wish you were too!!! Red Rock half in March?? 2013?

Reply

SIGHHHHHH i entered the ballot for NYC but didn’t get in :( BOO. I was so looking forward to planning a trip to the USA purely around a race hahah. it would’ve been the most expensive run of my life :D

oh well.. maybe next year!!

Reply

I applied for NYC but didn’t get in :( I would LOVE to run that one! I will never qualify for Boston so that isn’t even an option for me!

I actually just ate yogurt and PB and a pre dinner snack and still contemplating what part two should be! You are making me want a baked potato ;)

Reply

I’d rather run Boston. But than again my heart will always love Boston because I’m from Mass. I may be a bit bias but Boston will always beat New York.

Reply

What you are failing to realize is that when Curly eats her donut upside down, the sprinkle and frosting land directly on her tongue. She may actually have something better in the works there!

Reply

I am not up to marathons yet, and currently on rest of ITBS instead of training for another half marathon. It’s driving me cray!! For dinner I cooked Honey Mustard Chicken Strips… homemade honey mustard for marinade and dipping! and no I didn’t come up with it, Pinterest helped! The last workout that made me really sore was my first trip to the gym in forever, last night. Elliptical and bi’s, tri’s, and shoulders. Stung my calves today when I did a repeat.

Loved the doughnut comment. Reminds me of when I was her age, I ate my hamburgers upside down. Never doughnuts tho!

Reply

I would be happy to run either one but I really want to qualify for Boston! You and your donuts! You are so cute!! Congratulations on your little girl!!

Reply

I had Mexican for dinner and it was soooo good. I plan to eat some ice cream later tonight which makes me even happier ;)

Reply

Would you rather run the Boston marathon or the New York marathon?

Pssshhhhh!!! I have to pick one?!! Honestly Boston has been on my bucket list for 2 years–I started running 2 years ago lol. I doubt it will happen any time soon due to that pesky qualifying time thing but me and my sister want to run it.

Reply

My dinner tonight was PRETZELS because it is national pretzel day! And they’re my favorite food so I eat them all the time anyway :-)

That Jillian Michaels yoga DVD is the only yoga DVD I’ve found that I like! I like that it’s fast-paced and I don’t get bored.

Reply

You’re absolutely right … Curly is totally losing sprinkles that way. And your other niece chose the wrong ice cream flavor. Silly children. But they have to learn from their own mistakes, right?! ;)

Reply

ill miss my nyc running partner this year :(

Reply

I’ll be running NYCM this year! It’ll be my first NY and my fourth marathon. I’m already nervous. I qualified using my half marathon time…hopefully I can qualify for Boston at NYCM!

Reply

If I ever decided to run a marathon, NYCM and London would be a dream!

Reply

I’m still sore from my Power Pump class on Tuesday. I gave it all I had and am paying for it now. No pain, no gain, baby!!

Reply

This workout talk is making my embarrassed. I have not worked out in SO long. I like to blame school, but it’s really me just being lazy. Gotta get back on that horse!

Reply

Everyone was pushing me to register for NYCM this year before the qualifying changes, but I didn’t want to do it the same year as Boston. Next year the qualifying time will be under 3:00….can I do it?!?!?!?

Reply

I definitely want to run both. I’m running NYC this year and hopefully qualifying on May 6th for Boston 2013! My husband and I are running a marathon (his first, my fifth) for our 17th anniversary in Ft. Collins on May 6th. I can’t wait!

Reply

I love Jillian Michaels’ workouts–I’m planning on doing her yoga meltdown tomorrow morning before work!

Reply

A girl!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! So happy for you! And I didn’t get in to NYC, boo. Maybe next year!

Reply

I’m not running the NYCM but I did just get into the Nike Women’s Marathon courtesy of the lottery! It will be my first full and I am bouncing off the walls excited!! To be honest, if there was ever a person who could run a marathon 2 months after giving birth I have total faith it could be you!! :) I also really want a donut now…

Oh! I have a pivot shorts and sweat pink laces give-away going on until next Wednesday on the blog!

Reply

I’m sad I didnt get into NYCM this year–I will be there again with you someday!! Having to wait for it again will make it that much more special.

Reply

Ok, first, CONGRATS on baby GIRL!!!! You are about to go broke buying all things pink;-)
I am running NYCM this year, and am sooooo excited!! I have never done Boston or NYCM, and I really want to do NY over Boston, don’t know why.
I actually had a delicious dinner out at my favorite little restaurant in town – continuing the bday celebration!
Have a great night and almost weekend!;)

Reply

FOUND OUT YESTERDAY ..DOING NEW YORK. so excited. Maddi did not get in but we are going to try to find a way ..we want to run it together.. I have done Boston three times and NEW YORK twice. I loved doing Boston , totally amazing but…. NEW YORK is the BEST…

Reply

Honestly, I’d probably rather run New York. However, New York is on Sunday- and I swore I would always set a good example for my kids with at least the easy stuff… too bad the easy stuff (like not running races on Sunday) seems hard sometimes! So, I better get my butt to Boston sometime!!! I’ll just have to run NYCM in my dreams I guess.

Or wait until the millennium :). Ha! Church humor. Gotta love it, right?

Reply

Haha…is the chocolate …….. red?

Reply

I’m running NYCM this year and I am so excited:) I also ran Boston last week, it was insanely hot!! Congrats on your little girl:)

Reply

I think I’d rather run NYC, but I prefer small races, so maybe neither.

No exciting plans here tonight, but I’m horrified by your niece’s donut eating style, too. I think i need a donut now to make me feel better.

Reply

Hi sweetie! :)

I concur vanilla is the better flavor!! I’m not a fan of chocolate cake either but, I do love a scotchmallow every once in a while from See’s candy! Those are the best!

I’ll see you in NYCM 2013! :) I’m deferring my entry again this year. I registered for San Diego R&R in June & I forgot I registered last year for the “really big free marathon” in Vegas the same day that NYCM is held. Qualifying will be a little harder so, prob. lottery?! We’ll see. I’ll get there one day!! love you sweetie & you’re glowing! I’m happy that you’re happy! keep smiling!! :) xo

Reply

I would def run the NYC marathon. I currently live in NYC and am leaving in about a month once I finish grad school (THESIS IS DUE IN A WEEK GAH) so I think that it would be super cool. Plus I’ve heard that the energy is unlike anything else in the world. I am training for a half, and I don’t think that a full will follow, but if I were to do a full it would be NYC.

Also, because you watch both biggest loser and make it or break it, WTF with buddy and mark? Um, put your big boy pants on, dudes. I honestly would have been like, duh this is the twist. What did they think was going to happen? Have they never watched the show before? I hope Kim wins. I adore her.
MIOBI: I honestly have never liked Lauren, and I’m over her. I just want Payson to win the gold. And Rigo isn’t that cute, excuse me. And Jordan just doesn’t do it for me. Also I feel like there was a space-time lapse between last season and this season….
that is all for now. :D

Reply

Didn’t enter to try to run NYCM, but I am doing Chicago! Won’t ever be fast enough for Boston…haha nope.

Reply

bc i live in boston – i would have to say boston marathon all the way (plus i have done it twice – arent the crowds thrilling?!)

Reply

That doughnut looks unreal…
I didn’t get in to NYCM this year :( this makes 2 years denied – 1 more year and I’m in for sure! I need to find another marathon to train for!

Reply

I’d love to run both one day. My husband has no interest in running Boston though, so I’m thinking it’ll be NYC first!

Reply

I will not be running NYCM.

I’d rather run Boston. I BQ-ed but had to defer to 2013, so I am just itching to get out on that course!!!

none. :-(

Running is making me sore these days. it’s all this extra weight!! only 6 more weeks….

ps. I am due June 9th and will be trying to run a marathon 4 months postpartum. did you hear about the women in CA? she ranadn won the Oakland marathon 2 months postpartum!!!

Reply

I love that photo of you from the NYC marathon- how do you look so cute while RUNNING A MARATHON?!?! haha

Reply

I am running NYC. I guess I would rather run Boston—only because I will be running NYC this year. Hoping to qualify for Boston on 5/20 at Run for the Red Marathon. Chicago will hopefully be my fall 2013 marathon!

Reply

I wear the Enell sports bra ( I always wore 2 until I found this bra). It hooks in the front and is ugly but does the job! I knew I was pregnant with my 3rd when I had trouble hooking it one morning…..low and behold I found I was pregnant that afternoon! Are you going to breastfeed? I did with one of my 3…..talk about uncomfortable sports bra issues :)

Reply

Janae I just love you to peiced and I don’t think I have officially congratulated you on having a GIRL! YAY, YAY, YAY!!!

Do I get to see you tomorrow at the Color me RAD race?

Reply

Oh, I am running NYCM this year, but I might defer if I am pregnant. I know, too early to know, but I was planning on getting knocked up some time this year. HA. My OB/GYN told me to get pregnant in June and she’ll okay me to run the marathon in November, but you know what, I kind of want to enjoy the marathon and not have to be thinking to myself, “Is the baby okay?” Know what I mean? I’m talking like I’m pregnant, but I’m not. LOL

Reply

I’ll run NY for you this year. I WILL NOT be pregnant. Deferred once for that. :) I would rather run Boston, but I’m too slow and I’ll never qualify, except in my dreams!

Reply

I say I’d like to run Boston cause, WELL, ITS TGE BISTON MARATHIN!! However, I’d like to run NT because I want to go eat at PB and Co..(peanut butter/ running addict here). Either will be amazing! :)

Reply

No marathons for my until I’m 28. I did one when I was 21 last year, but my coach advised that no half marathons until I’m 27 and full marathon 28 or 29. this is my little plan to have longevity in running :)
So when that time comes I will either run Melbourne marathon or great ocean road marathon .

So only 5-15km races for me, currently aiming For uni games in Australia , getting my 5k time down doing a lot of lactate threshold stuff & vo2.
I’m currently at a giant fitness expo in sydney, I have learnt so much about marathon training and coaching runners it has been so good!

Last workout made me sore was body attack class , ouch !
