A bad decision before a workout and the perfect present.

As you know the only thing that motivates me to be a clean person and do my laundry is when I run out of workout clothes.  I wanted to go to a workout class last night and so that meant that I had to do laundry after school at my parent’s house.  I guess maybe we should look into getting our own washer and dryer by this August, I have a feeling I will be doing just a few more loads each week;)

Good thing I have a special princess that always runs over to help me because for some reason laundry is fun for kids.

A huge surprise came walking in the door about 30 minutes later.  My mom FINALLY got a waffle iron.  This may not seem like a big deal but believe me, it is.  I can’t tell you how many times the nephew and I have begged for waffles for dinner and were forced to settle on pancakes because of the lack of an iron.  Maybe she bought it because she wants me to come over even more often than the usual every other day.

Photo 17 copy

Dinner was already being made by the time we got the iron and so waffles will have to wait until next time.

We had spaghetti and peas.  We found a bunch of peas in my niece’s shirt because she didn’t want to eat them, I now understand why someone would go to these lengths to avoid vegetables and I would do that now with broccoli if I was being forced to eat it.

Photo 17

It is the weirdest thing… ice cream will sit in my parents freezer forever without being eaten.  If I had ice cream in my freezer (can’t because it won’t fit with all of the frozen chicken nuggets and frozen burritos we have) it would be gone in hours.

Photo 19

Just for future reference (because I know that you would all clearly make the smart decision to eat 3 cups of ice cream right before working out) eating ice cream before a RIPPED class hurts in so many ways.

I have only been to one RIPPED class before last night and I am pretty sure this one was way harder than the first one.  It was more than a total body workout and sweat dripped into my eyeballs just like the good old days.

Just a heads up:  Proposition 29 in California is a $1 increase in tax on cigarettes and that entire dollar goes towards cancer research.  Take some time to check it out HERE!!!

Tell me about a bad decision (food-wise) that you made before a workout?

-Ice cream before 300 burpees.

What was the last kitchen appliance that you bought? What is an appliance that you absolutely could not live without?

How many miles do your parents live away from you?

-8.21.   We have ran there just a few times in my life:)

Do you have ice cream in your freezer?

Last kitchen appliance was a new dishwasher. The last couple years we’ve replaced a lot of appliances because we are married 25 (!) years this year and everything seemed to be dying all at the same time. Ugh. I think I couldn’t live without our W/D.

Mom and Dad live about 40 miles from me.

For about 4 months my parents live 6 miles from me. And I would run there as well on Saturday mornings. Now they live about 15. Still close but not close enough for me.

I can’t eat anything 2-3 hrs before a run, but once i had salmon for dinner then ran in the AM and burped it up the whole time.. Once before spin i had greasy chinese and had to leave class :-X haha

John bought me a nice coffee maker recently & i cant live without it!

Aww my parents are 3.5 hrs away, so lots of miles.

No ice cream except when john buys haagen daaz salted caramel truffle ice cream, then all rules go out the window!! :-)

Un-opened ice cream in the freezer?! Unheard of;-) We have it in the freezer all the time.

Drinking tea before a long run. Otherwise, I have a pretty strong stomach–I used to eat a Fiber bar as my pre-run fuel for long runs.

My parents live about 50 miles away–way too far in my opinion.

Have a great Wednesday Janae!

My latest appliance purchase was about a year ago and it was a Ninja blender system. I cannot fathom dropping the $s for a Vitamix. My Ninja is awesome! I also just bought a beater blade for my Kitchenaid Mixer and it does save me time in the kitchen when I am cooking for my little bakery business!!
Ohhh I don’t know how you eat before you workout—or after!!! My weak stomach needs a good 2+ hours to settle before and after exercise.
Ice cream would sit in my freezer for all of eternity!! Ha!!

Reply

Oh GAWD my stomach is cramping just thinking about that!!!

No ice cream in my freezer … but the parentals live about a half hour (driving!) from me, so I can always snack there :)

Reply

I loooove my waffle iron! It is the reward after most of my long runs!

My parents live about 20 minutes from me and I love my Sunday’s with them :)

Reply

My dad lives about 10 minutes away, my mom lives about 20 minutes away, and my in-laws are about 15 minutes away. It’s wonderful!
I have the same problem with ice cream in my freezer – it doesn’t last!!

Reply

Bad pre-workout food decision: I really can’t think of one. I NEVER eat before I workout because it is usually at 5 am.

Last appliance bought: hmmm.. I guess it was our dishwasher when the current one broke just under four years ago. I couldn’t live without my toaster. I almost said crockpot, but it is really the toaster. My daughter loves sunflower seed butter on toast so I use it a lot! The crockpot would be a close second…
I need a waffle iron! Let me know how the folks like that one.

My parents live 73 miles away. They still live where I grew up…I’m the one that moved away.

No ice cream in the freezer :(

Reply

Holy moly…300 burpees in one shot?? That would have killed me, let alone with some ice cream in my stomach! Tell your mom that she made an excellent decision with that waffle-maker- I’ve used mine way more than I anticipated! I got a great recipe for a Mexican Waffiza (i.e. a waffle pizza) if you want me to send it over to ya :)!

Reply

My parents (right now) don’t live far….which is nice!!

And wow–that class sounds crazy HARD (but good). Sorry about the ice cream decision….ouch! One time I ate a bowl of oats before a run….BADDDDD idea! hah

Reply

I have a fantastic chocolate waffle recipe if you want to try it in your new iron! ;) Love the sound of Prop 29!

Reply

I cannot have dairy before any workout!
Last one bought was my Kitchenaid stand mixer and I could not live without my Vitamix :) I use it daily, if not twice a day.
I think about 3 miles or less :) I love that my Mom lives so close!
We have Maple Walnut frozen yogurt, that has been there too long without eating!

Reply

I love Curly’s cute little head!! Adorable! ;)

I currently have ice cream sandwiches in my freezer. I have difficulty keeping gallons of ice cream in my freezer … it doesn’t last very long!

Reply

I once spent an afternoon making cookies before a long run (which really means eating the equivalent of about 3 dozen cookies worth of dough and making about 1 dozen actual cookies) and needless to say, all that dough sat like a rock on my stomach! Usually have Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer – S’mores is awesome – whoever came up with “graham cracker swirl” is genius.

Reply

I haven’t bought a kitchen appliance in a while but I came really close to buying an ice cream maker a couple of weeks ago!
I live in New York and my parents live in Oregon… so that’s about 3,000 miles. It stinks! I miss them all the time!
I WISH I had ice cream in my freezer!

Reply

i used to eat PB before runs…BAD idea. my stomach does not like all that delicious fat before a run.

last kitchen appliance we bought…ohhh, we bought a pizza stone but havent gotten a chance to use it yet. BLASPHEMY! i cant live without my food processor. or my deep fryer. its a toss up ;)

my parents live 24 miles away from me. around a 35 minute drive, but if i’m ever in the mood to run an almost marathon, thatd be an interesting challenge..lol.

i ALWAYS have ice cream in my freezer. it doesnt last more then a week in there though.

Reply

I want a waffle maker so bad!!!!

chips during an ab workout – Logan was feeding them to me, not to mention jumping on me and adding about 30lbs to my workout :P

Reply

My parents live 292,04 miles away, not a distance that I would run!
The last thing I bought was a freezer, 2 years I had to live without buying ice cream home, but I have made up for that time and eating 3x more ice cream after that..

Reply

We might buy some Ben and Jerry’s in summer. Not something we keep around this time of year. It’s cold in Wyoming already. My dad lives in Maine-2,500 miles away and my Mom moved from Rhode Island to Colorado, so she now only lives about 70 miles south of me-much closer! When I lived in Colorado we lived exactly 10 miles apart, so it made 20 milers perfect!

Reply

Last week I went to lunch with some friends right before spin class and had a HUGE turkey BLT sandwich. It was so difficult to make it through that class!

The last kitchen appliance we bought was our grind-and-brew Cuisinart coffee maker.

Both my parents and my husband parents live over 2,500 miles away in Alaska. The last time we saw them was for our wedding in July… hoping to make a trip up there soon though!

No ice cream in the freezer, but there SHOULD be. I love Moose Tracks!

Reply

We probably use our wok most often. I love me some stir fry.

There is always ice cream in our freezer. However, it does not last a long time like at your parents, so I am always at the store buying more. Hmmmm. Maybe we have a problem.

Chocolate chip pancakes smeared with peanut butter sat pretty heavy in my stomach during a half marathon. My friend, who ran it with me, and I moaned ‘why?’ and ‘what were we thinking?’ Often that morning.

I live 71.2 miles from my parental. Obviously I have made that drive often ;) But I will never run it.

Reply

Always have mint chocolate chip and cookie dough in the freezer! I had red bull before kickboxing and total body conditioning – it helped with the energy but my stomach was not a fan!

I could NOT live without my blender!!!

Reply

Ice cream sunday as a pre-half marathon meal. BAD decision.
Probably my cuisinart blender that came with the travel mugs. LOVE it.
2,142 miles from my parents. Give or take a couple of miles.
My kitchenaid stand mixer. Worth every stinking penny and would replace it if needed without blinking an eye.

I could never live without a microwave or hand mixer!! I love my hand mixer it is the bomb.
annnd sadly my parents are 3,000 miles away, but that beats the 6,000 miles away when we lived in alaska haha

My parents live about 600 miles away and we ALWAYS have ice cream in the fridge. Normally 2-3 varieties :)

Reply

We had to rush out and buy a new coffee pot the other day because hubs broke the old one when he failed to put the pot on the burner properly. I woke up to find coffee all over the counter and floor, and a burned out coffee maker. This is one appliance we CANNOT live without!

My parents live about 900 miles away. I’m in New Hampshire and they are in Ohio. No plans to run there any time soon – but I have gone home to visit and run in a race. Super fun!

We ate all our ice cream before lent…we’ll have it again at Easter =)

Waffles are sooo much better than pancakes! How did your mom live without an iron?! My mom got me one for Christmas that looks like that, where you turn it like at hotels! And I was sooo excited!!

300 burpees!??! I just died.

Reply

I would take the burpee’s over inchworms any day.

Reply

i dont have ice cream in my freezer for the exact reason you mentioned – ok not the frozen burritos/chx nuggets but because it would be eaten in a matter of minutes. i have no self-control.

worst decision would prob be eating 3 bowls of fiber one cereal before running 10 miles. Ouchie!

Reply

I’ve had flamin’ hot cheetos before a long run.. twice. NOT a smart choice!!

Our newest appliance is a blender. Yay smoothies! Still waiting on my Kitchen-Aid!

My parents live very far away. :( They’re in Minnesota & we’re in Denver!! Wah!

I had to buy a new slow cooker. I can’t live without my rice cooker, I’m married to a Chinese guy. I live over a thousand miles from my parents. It’s better for everyone, really. (jk)

you really should get a washer and drier. really.

Reply

We can’t keep I’ve cream in our fridge because my husband and I are animals when it comes to frozen treats. We have no self control!

I love the idea of Prop 29. That’s brillant. Bad for the smokers, but hopefully it will help them quit.
I can’t leave ice cream in my freezer either. I will eat it non stop….until the whole carton is gone. Eek

I had a huge lunch salad before a lunch time run and then went to spin. Awful

Last appliance I bought was a blender. Love that thing!

I live 1900 miles away from my parents and the entire rest of my family. It is so hard to be this far from them. Especially since we were like you, seeing them a couple times a week.

No ice cream in my freezer right now. It seems to disappear on its own…

Hi beautiful girl!
ohh anything before burps hurts!! I couldn’t imagine ice cream! :)
a month ago I hate pizza for a late lunch and then attempted to run a speed&hill combo…I think it was the cheese that tore me apart, I ended up throwing up for 2-days..
Last appliance I bought was my Keurig coffee maker, LOVE it!
I think we have 6-different kinds of ice cream in our freezer right now, mostly a lot of B&J’s, my Sis has a slight obsession :)
Have a great Thursday!

I am about 660 miles from my parents. I can’t say I have ever run there ;)

I have ice cream in the freezer and it will sit there. I am not a hard ice cream person. It hurts my teeth.

If you think Cheryl’s RIPPED class is hard, then you have to try Kara’s class. She’s the toughest person I think I’ve ever met!

Trying a new food before a long run… let’s just saying I was running to the bathroom.

I just bought a KITCHENAID and I cannnnot wait to bake something with it. I need to give cookies away though cause they are not conducive to a diet ha. I cannot live without my vitamix. Best investment. Ever.

Around 40… It’s a 50 minute drive. Maybe someday I could run there ;)

I never ever ever have ice cream. I would sit there and eat the entire thing! =/

Reply

YAY for your waffle iron! i love mine :)

I can’t drink anything carbonated before a run…burp city

Reply

Hmm. Worst food choice before a workout was probably a burger and fries from Harvey’s back when I first started running (the rationale: if I eat it now then run in 10 minutes, I’ll just burn it RIGHT off before it has a chance to take up residence on my thighs). I am aware that there are 27 things wrong with that thought process… And it resulted in the most miserable run of my life. Needless to say, I haven’t done it since ;)

Poor life choice lately was a CANDY EATING CONTEST against my bottomless pit of a boss. I ate about 6 pounds of candy (I know I exaggerage a lot, but this time I’m actually not! I actually ingested 2.6 pounds of gummy worms alone, we measured). I am now doing Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Diet and I don’t EVER ever ever want to see another gummy worm for the rest of my life!

Most recent kitchen appliance – I got a KitchenAid mixer for Christmas, does that count? I don’t bake so I didn’t really know what to do with it at first, but I’m actually loving it and loving finding super healthy new muffin recipes to try! I absolutely cannot live without my Magic Bullet. I LOVE smoothies and they take under a minute with the Magic Bullet, and cleanup after is even less. LOVE.

Oh. My. Gosh. I just remembered that my mum gifted us her old waffle maker like 2 years ago and we’ve never used it…
It must still be in our kitchen cupboards. I need to rectify this. Immediately!
Where can I find a good recipe?

Reply

I once ate a corn dog before a 5K. Such a bad decision.

Reply

For Christmas I got a juicer, a food processor, and a crock pot and I love them all equally! Although, the juicer is definitely on daily-use rotation :)

My parents are only 1.5 miles away which is sometimes way TOO close, but since we work together and our home office is in their basement, it kinda makes sense :)

Reply

Sadly, I do not have ice cream in my freezer. It would last about 2.4 seconds, because I am an ice cream addict.

Also, it’s been a while since I’ve read your blog and I’m *finally* caught up so I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! When I saw the picture of you/Billy/the tiny running shoes I got so teary eyed (in the best way possible, of course). You two are going to be the best parents ever.

Reply

OMG. you did 300 burpees last night? I’d die. with or without the ice cream.
worst pre run food decision I’ve ever made was eating frosted mini wheats the night before a race. FML. it was awful.

last kitchen appliance we bought… hmm… we actually haven’t bought any. All of ours were wedding gifts! I did a Pampered Chef order last summer and got some cool gizmos/gadgets. Like these sweet scissor thingees and a mandolin slicer and some corn-on-the-cob nobs. ;)

My parents live about 2 miles away. I have run there a few times as well. ;)

no ice cream in the freezer. just lots of chicken, green beans and some tilapia.

I really, truly hate working out at night!

Our oven/stove broke this past week, so we need to get that fixed.

And, most importantly, my parents are only five miles away. Heaven forbid I go more than two days without seeing them!

Reply

I am so jealous that you live SO close to your parents. When my parents lived in Nephi (exactly 26.2 miles from my house in Payson) I always wanted to run there but never did. Now they live even further in Saratoga springs. One day I will run there. :)

I constantly make bad food choice before running. One never learns. :)

Reply

Last appliance that we purchased was a one cup coffee maker. Love it, although we use our 8 y.o.espresso machine every day and the coffee maker when company wants real coffee.

I have a horrible time running or working out in the evening because I burp up what I ate. Yuck.

I live 180 miles from my parents. Too far. We live 240 miles from the in-laws. Too close.

Reply

I once ate a sandwich about half an hour before spinning class. Not a good idea. At all.

Last thing I bought was a blender.

My parents live about 200 miles away, so no popping over for dinner for me.

No ice cream in my freezer. It wouldn’t last long anyway. Especially not if it was Häagen Dazs Cookies’n Cream. Or Macadamia Nut Brittle. Or Raspberry.

Reply

hey Janae! My parents live in the city I grew up in, 100 miles away! It’s rough, I tell ya! the last kitchen appliance i bought was a whoopie pie pan! haven’t used that bad boy just yet though. :) i’m brainstorming some good whoopie pie recipes!

Reply

300 burpee?!?! I did 50 this morning and thought I was going to die…you’re awesome :)

I don’t remember the last kitchen appliance I bought. Mike’s grandma just gave us a toaster oven, so that’s my newest toy. I love my KitchenAid mixer, I use it all the time!

My parents live about 18 miles away, in my hometown. My in-laws, on the other hand, live .5 miles away until this summer, and then they’ll move but still be only about 2 miles away. (Sometimes good, sometimes bad!)

If Mike had his way, we would have ice-cream in our freezer 365. However, I’m a cheap-o so I only buy it when it’s on sale. I would say though, we probably have it in our freezer more often than not. Right now we have a half eaten container of Neopolatin.

Reply

A couple weeks ago I ate yogurt right before I worked out and felt like it was going to come back up the entire time. I’m pretty sure it had more to do with the baby in my tummy than the yogurt though.

We live about 8,000 miles from my parents and hubby’s parents, so we only see them once a year.

And ice cream? Yeah, we almost always have ice cream. That doesn’t mean it lasts long though.

1. One time I went out for Texas bbq (POUNDS of meat…) the day before a Warrior Dash. Worst decision EVER. I was so so so cramped up. It was awful.

2. The last kitchen appliance I bought (my mom got it for me for my birthday!) was a little gas grill that I can set up in the parking lot of my condo. The one appliance I couldn’t live without is tricky because I’m not generally a gadget person….let’s go with a tie between my kitchenaid stand mixer and food processor.

3. My parents are currently 1261 miles away. :( Texas to South Dakota is a LONG trip. Luckily, we can visit each other pretty often because of air travel, but I’ll want to be closer before I even think about having a family.

4. I DO have ice cream in my freezer. Homemade vanilla bean! Thanks so much for reminding me! ;)

I know I already commented but I forgot to add my worst ever pre-workout food/drink choice. Half a glass of wine. Yep, I’m that girl. I totally forgot I was booked into a class, got home on Friday (see, that makes it ok) and poured myself a little glass of vino. After 10 minutes of sipping and trying to remember what I was supposed to be doing… eek! Off to aerobics I went.
Half a glass of wine + empty stomach + aerobics = disaster.
I’m a nightmare. I know.

For me, peanut butter is a bad decision before a workout and I most definitely could not live without a washing machine!
that’s so great you live so close to your parents!

Reply

King Size Butterfinger before my bar class. lesson learned!

A waffle maker…turned out to be crap. It made them too thing! So now I’m in the market for a legit waffle maker (like your mom got) and a huge kitchen aid mixer so I won’t end up covered in ingredients anymore!

662. That’s how many miles my parents live from me. I’ve ran there a few times too…kidding. I’m adjust to it at this point. The main annoyance is the $$$ to fly home! It used to be no more than $200 round trip, now it’s about that per flight! What the heck! I can pay less than that to fly to NYC!

No ice cream in my freezer. Sadly the large Blue Bell (I think it’s 1/2 a gallon) won’t make it past 2 days in my apartment…so I don’t buy it often.

Reply

Too much sushi… it expands and then there’s the fish taste. Not smart, sushi after a workout is the way to go.

I got a Vitamix 2 days ago!!! I love it although I’m sure I could live without it… not that i’d want to now. ;)

No ice cream in the freezer. Sometimes mochi from TJ’s but that’s it.

I can’t remember the last bad food decision I made before a workout

My parents live about 90 miles away, I see them about once a month

No ice cream in our house, we usually go out for it.

leftover birthday cake before an 8 mile speed work run… And no ice cream in my freezer, like that would last a whole day.

My latest bad food decision was just last night. I ate a whole bunch of vegetable beef stir fry and quinoa for dinner and then my husband decided to take our girls to play with cousins for a few hours so I saw my window of opportunity to go running and I took it. I waited an hour then went running and about a mile into my loop I got the worst side ache ever. It’s still very tender today. It’s hard being stupid.

I cannot live without my Bosch. I make bread and cookies all the time. Someday I’ll use it for something healthy.

My parents live 1 mile away. My in-laws live 10 miles away. I love that we live so close to both!

Yup – I have ice cream in my freezer. I buy it occasionally and it sits in the freezer for a long time. I probably eat ice cream about every three months. Sad huh?

Reply

Yesterday I ate a giant fudge cookie before my run and it was disastrous.

We just bought a new washer and it’s in the kitchen, does that count? Side note: we got a sweet waffle iron for our wedding and I’ve only used it twice because Mike hates waffles. Why did I marry him again?

My parents live 4 miles away.

Any dairy before a workout is a big no-no in my book. I went to a grand opening of a froyo place (so I ate a TON of free froyo!) one night like 30 minutes before teaching Zumba. All I could think about the entire class was that I hope I don’t throw up on this stage… ugh.

No freezer in our ice cream, but I think there are some popsicles of some sort.

We live about an hour or so away from Daniel’s parents, but my parents live less than 3 miles away (although my dad travels for his job, so he’s usually a lot farther). I have run to my parents house many times too!

Hi Janae!
I just want to tell you what a gorgeous Mama you are! Soooo happy for you and Billy!

One thing i cannot live without – coffee maker! I’m a cranky zombie without my coffee…
I generally can’t eat anything processed before workouts – i get super bloated and feel so heavy. That said, only oats or maybe light salad or some fruit before.

My Mom lives pretty far away from me – on another continent! Just checked, distance between Shanghai and my home town in Poland is exactly 5037 miles;-)

Those are the best kind of waffle irons–the flipping action totally makes the waffle perfect!

Once I ate at Don Pablos and then went on a 9 mile run…ouch.

Last kitchen appliance purchased: microwave. Favorite kitchen appliance? Coffee maker…haha.

My parents live about 30 mins south of us!

We have half of a gallon of cookies and cream froyo in our freezer!

Reply

I think a bad food decision was when I DIDN’T eat anything for about 4 hours before going to the gym. Who knew that my stomach could rumble louder than the darned treadmill? Plus it made my workout way more tiring that it had to be.

My parents live 0.00 miles away… because I still live with them, haha.

I can’t have ice cream in my house.. forget about it.. its gone before it even gets to the freezer.. I purposely go out for ice cream when I have the craving- plus I think ice cream is better when you get it out :) I got a waffle iron years ago and for a long time had waffle Sunday’s.. Great way to end the week!
My stomach can be weird- so its not exactly one particular thing that can set it off before a workout.. However- acidy stuff like OJ and pineapple doesn’t mix with working out.. anytime!

I swear my ripped class gets more difficult each time I go, too. Ice cream will last exactly 3 days in our house. Never more, never less.
