Mad at Billy and Omega-3s

February 23, 2012

I was just a little upset with Billy the other day.

I have a weird thing with loving to spend a lot of money on shampoo and conditioner.  There is nothing better than a good shampoo/conditioner that leaves your hair feeling amazing and then makes it so you don’t have to wash it for 4 days.  The thing is that it doesn’t really fit into our ‘budget’ because that money goes towards Subway and cottage cheese and instead I usually buy the .99 cent 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner stuff at Walmart.

Well, my sister rocks and hooked me up with the good stuff for my birthday:

82E1ED2F FAEC 401C B301 9C574D424CB5

Why was I so mad at Billy?  Because I had a dream that he used it all of the above bottles even though he knows that he is not allowed to touch them (I am a joy to live with).  When I woke up I swore it was real life and I looked over at him and gave him an evil eye and fell back asleep very angry.

I have a really hard time knowing whether or not a dream is real.  Don’t worry, I forgave him but he keeps teasing me now saying that I should feel his hair because it is so soft from using my special shampoo.

Why do I share such randomness with you?

Onto things that actually fit into the niche of my blog…let’s talk about Runner’s World.  I decided to not show you my abs and instead show you theirs just so you can get an idea of what mine look like;)

150D65DA DC88 4571 BA2B BE98FFB608B9

The reason they are kind of wrinkly is because my water bottle leaked all over them, I find it very difficult to remember to close those dang tops.

Both of these issues are from 2007 but I love reading old issues when I run out of the newer ones to read.

I came across an article in the November issue about Omega-3s at the perfect time.  You see, last night Billy was taking his vitamins before dinner and so I did the same.  I normally always take them 5 minutes before falling asleep and so I never notice any side effects but last night I did.  During my turbo kick class I kept having the weirdest fish taste in my mouth…..I couldn’t figure out how a grilled cheese sandwich would produce that taste until I realized it was from my Omega-3 Fish Oil supplement.

I did not like the side effect and started wondering why in the world I took that supplement?  What were the benefits?  Billy is the genius behind our supplements and I just take what he tells me to take:)

“Scientific evidence is leading us to believe that omega-3s may not only alleviate joint pain, but may also prevent it. Omega-3s are one of the key nutrients every runner SHOULD have in their diet.”

From the greatest source to the least greatest source of Omega-3s

Fish: Salmon, sardines, pacific oysters, trout, canned white tuna, canned salmon.

Plants: English walnuts, flaxseed, canola oil.

WHY DO RUNNERS NEED OMEGA-3s?

In other news, I couldn’t resist the salad today at school.  She made a Cafe Rio copycat salad and it was pretty darn delicious.

The dressing is a homemade tomatillo dressing, so good!

Do you ever wake up thinking that your dream actually really happened?!?

What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use?

Do you eat fish?  Do you take an Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplement? What is your favorite type of fish?

Any fun Thursday night plans?

Liz @ Tip Top Shape February 23, 2012 at 3:37 pm

I always feel pretty disoriented after dreams–especially if I wake up in the middle of one. The worst is when I dream I’m friends with celebrities or tv characters. I wake up and then get unreasonably upset that I’m not ACTUALLY friends with these people. I mean, it’s totally unfair! lol

Janae February 23, 2012 at 3:43 pm

BAHAHAHA thank you for sharing with me that you get upset when your dream isn’t true…I would be very mad to find out that Rachel Mcadams and I weren’t in fact bf’s:) Have a great day Liz!

I have dreams that I’m dating famous people relatively often. I wake up really excited to tell all my friends, and it takes me about a minute to realize that I dreamed it. So depressing.

Mmm that salad sounds good! I love checking out old Runner’s World mags at the library! I love the “Ask Miles” section and when they interview famous runners–I love reading their post run meals! haha

I keep having dreams that I’m pregnant so I lift up my shirt as soon as I wake up to make sure my stomach is still flat! Ah!

I used Tresume shampoo and conditioner because we share and Andy gets freaked out when I buy the floral scented stuff

I love Tilapia since it doesn’t taste fishy! I don’t take fish oil, but Andy does and it stinks!

Thursday night plans = cinnamon toast crunch, private practice reruns on netflix, a hot bath, and reading my library book. Andy has to run an errand tonight, so this is what I do when I’m home alone.

Do you ever take B12? I have heard really good things about it and I take it once in awhile but I really hate taking pills so I never am consistent enough to see results. PS have you ever had those calcium chews? I LOVE those because they taste like tootsie rolls.

Janae February 23, 2012 at 3:45 pm

HEY YOU!!! I love the ‘Ask Miles’ portion…I always learn so much. Can I come over for your Thursday night plans, sounds like so much fun! I don’t take B12 but I am definitely going to look into it. I look forward to my calcium chews ever day! So stinkin’ good! Hope you are having an amazing day!

Yes, regarding dreams. I had a horrible nightmare last week and luckily my husband had to wake me up because I was moaning and making crying noises! I swear it was so real and I was thankful when I woke and realized it was just a dream.

I use Pantene usually and special scalp shampoo.

I eat lots of fish, so I don’t take a supplement. My favorite is probably salmon but I love all kinds.

No plans, except hubby is making me one of my favorite dinners. Egg scramble with lots of veggies, black beans, and tortillas.

I always have dreams that I wake up thinking actually happened. Just the other day I had a dream about my friend’s friend that I’ve never met but know of. Ever since I had the dream I had a weird image of them in my head, when I met them for real, I could have sworn it wasn’t the right person cause they looked so different in my dream!!
MMMM yes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE fish!! Salmon is probably my favorite (yay protein & omega- 3′s!) but I also loveee haddock!

Reply

Janae February 23, 2012 at 3:47 pm

I don’t think I have ever tried haddock before, I think I need to now! I have had a very similar experience to your friend’s friend story…it was CRAZY!! Dreams fool me!

I had a dream one night about something called “the albino sea panda,” which ended up looked like a weird ferret. In the dream my grandparent’s house was flooding and the stupid rabid sea panda was attached to my arm with its claws and teeth and would not come off. It was horrible. I woke up needing to go to the bathroom but refused to leave the bed for a full ten minutes until I was completely sure it had been a dream. Traumatic.

Reply

Janae February 23, 2012 at 3:54 pm

Did you know you should stock it this month? It’s the cheapest it will be all year. Around here its $.59/can for the good stuff. I’m trying to help you save Janae! e

Omega 3′s are great for us, but the sad thing for Americans is that most of our bodies cannot absorb the O3′s because of all the other crap we eat. I read a medical book about this several months ago, basically what happens when we fill our diet with processed items or vegetable and hydrogenated oils which contain high levels of Omega 6′s our bodies aren’t able to absorb the O3′s. Almost every single prepared and processed food item has some form of corn, vegetable, soy, or hydrogenated oils which contributes to the excess weight a lot of us tote around as well. The body is so stinking complicated!

Reply

Janae February 23, 2012 at 4:44 pm

WOW!! Britt, I had no idea about that! I am going to have to work on my processed food intake so that I can absorb the O3s!

Jake February 23, 2012 at 4:13 pm

We recently started taking fish oil after reading about the benefits for the past decade – late to the party.

Here’s the secret – put the bottle of capsules in the freezer, and then just take a frozen pill before bed. Never had any issues with fish breath by doing it that way.

I have dreams about fighting with my mom and wake up angry with her until I remember it’s fake.
I’ve been using Bed Head self absorbed. I love the smell of it but I think the conditioner is weak. I use a Dove conditioner after runs to detangle my hair without ripping half of it out.
I eat fish but not enough. I love salmon, but can’t really stand any white fish. I also love shrimp, lobster, and crab.

I hear if you freeze your fish oil supplements you won’t get the after taste!

I also like to indulge in expensive shampoo and conditioner – right now I use Straight Sexy Hair (love the smell!). I told my boyfriend once that if you ever run out of shaving cream, you can use conditioner. The next time he ran out of shaving cream, he used my expensive conditioner! But not just once, for months! I was so mad when I noticed my conditioner bottle seemed to be at such a low level and he told me he’d been using it. Ugh, boys!

My fiance always does that to me! He’ll dream that we are in a fight and then wake up so upset about it that he stays mad at me all day. I spend the whole day reminding him that IT DIDN’T REALLY HAPPEN, and then I have to be extra nice to make up for his weird subconscious. So, you can tell Billy that your lingering dream madness is obviously totally normal. I always use the “Berkley and Jensen” generic version of the Biolage shampoos that they sell at BJs. I swear it is the exact same thing, just a different package and a tenth of the price. I don’t have a Costco near me, but take a look at their generic shampoos and conditioners and see if they do the same thing.

Stop posting pictures of your salads! It making me want one! Haha.

I do really like catfish… I haven’t had it in ages though. Salmon, tilapia, halibut, tuna, um… not sure what else.

I use Nioxin. It helps to promote hair growth. The sad thing is that it doesn’t really have much of a scent and it doesn’t make your hair feel all awesome and smooth… but that could also be because I haven’t had a hair cut/trim in about 2 years…

And people never understand me when I tell them I’m mad at them because of a dream I had! I just don’t understand…

I use Matrix and love it! Adam isn’t allowed to use it either. I actually love seafood and will eat Salmon, Tilapia, Rainbow Trout, Catfish, and cod. Do you ever wake up thinking that your dream actually really happened?!?

Yes, and it can be annoying/weird/crazy all at the same time. I’ve had WEIRD dreams where I woke up thinking it was real. One time I dreamed I was pregnant, woke up, looked at my stomach, almost started crying saying I knew I was getting fat…haha. Another time I dreamed I got stabbed in the stomach and woke up and looked at my stomach….but had no scar…haha. Along with MANY other weird dreams…..

What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I’ve been rotating between biolage ultra hydrating, redken smooth/sleek down (can’t remember), and the healthy sexy hair major repair/mositure one. :) I buy from beauty brands in the summer when they have their liter sale for $10 (great deal) on most brands…and stock up for the year :) When I lived at home I loved using my mom’s ‘pureology’ but it’s WAY too expensive for me to buy on my own… (60bucks for a liter, no thank you, and it’s NOT on sale during the liter sale, go figure)

Do you eat fish? Do you take an Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplement? What is your favorite type of fish? I LOVE FISH…salmon, tuna, yellow tail, shrimp, calamari, mahi mahi, lots of kinds of sushi and sashimi…etc…the list goes on! I do not take an omega-3 fish oil supp but after hearing you talk about the benefits I kinda wanna start…..but the whole fish taste in mouth and making me very hesitant….

Any fun Thursday night plans?
My thursday night consisted of turbo kickboxing for an hour, then yoga for an hour….. just ate 3 bowls of chocolate cheerios cereal for dinner… i was SO hungry after that 2 hour workout…. now it’s time to shower, then bed… I am a WILD child let me tell ya ;) ha… I doubt you’re still reading this? I have been experimenting with different fish lately, but I just love those tiny little bay shrimp that are just sooo cute and tasty. I was crying in my sleep a few weeks ago when I was staying with my mom and she had to wake me up, it felt so real… It’s hard to distinguish what was really just a dream or not.

I’ve been eating more fish since I’ve been running and trying to take Fish Oil when I can remember. The thing that’s helped my joints and muscles the most is SierraSil Joint Formula 14. It’s an all natural pill that is suppose to help ease joint/muscle ache and help prevent the cartilage breakdown associated with exercise. So apparently I took it to heart because I WOKE MYSELF UP from actually pushing so hard in my sleep. Um true story.

Be careful with the Omega 3 supplements. My wife was convinced I should start taking a fish oil pill a day for all the reasons advertised, so I did. Trouble is I was already healthy and the extra fish oil tab a day lowered my blood platelets level to the point my Dr. was concerned. They were doing their job, but too well. Not to the point I’d get cut and have to worry about bleeding to death, but at the low area of the safe chart. Went off the fish oil and tested 3 weeks later and platelets count back to normal. I take nothing, but one Flintstones vitamin a day. Results may vary. Just saying.

I had a dream on Wednesday night that I was on my husband’s side of the bed (closer to our dog’s bed) and he (the dog) was trying to wake me up. I then woke up hearing my dog pacing (we have hardwood floors) and I had to let him out. I knew the first part was a dream because I was on the other side of the bed. Isn’t it weird when things happening around you incorporate into your own dreams?

Shampoo/Conditioner: Right now it’s Suave for color treated hair. It’s usually 2 bottles for 3 or 4 bucks depending if there is a sale. I have used Pantene too…but only when it is on sale! Ha!

Fish: I like it, but my husband doesn’t. I buy that Chicken of the Sea Salmon in a pack sometimes to bring for lunch at work. I have been thinking I should take an Omega 3 supplement but I get overwhelmed in supplement section of stores. which one do you take?

Thursday night?: We had leftovers (I make this Skillet salsa/ground beef meal. I am very into one pot dinners) and we watched Modern Family on DVR. I was in bed by 9 PM. It was great.

I had the same issue with fish oil too, when I would take them after lunch at work, haha!

I am a seafood fanatic :) Can’t get enough! Favorite? Hmmmmm- when I was in HI I had a fish called opacapaca. It was so so so good. I still dream of it! I love mahi, salmon, tilapia, yellow tail…

I take fish oil daily, along with a multi vitamin, glucosamine, b-complex, calcium and if a race is coming Powerbar Beta Alanine. I swear by it.

Happy Friday my friend!

I have the most crazy dreams that they could never happen in real life – and for the most part I am glad!!
I use cheap shampoo & conditioner, because it works so much better on my hair than the pricey stuff. I allow my boyfriend to use it too because I get through conditioner far quicker than the shampoo, so he keeps the bottles kinda even ;)
I don’t take fish oil supplements – I read that for the most part they are rancid and that freaked me out (I’m a bit particular about things like that!) but I do eat fish from time to time.
Have a great weekend! Your blog makes my breaks between tasks so much more fun :)

omegas 3s are really good for your eyes, too. I recommend them all the time.

You might want to change fish oils. They should not taste fishy or smell, that can mean its not, well…good? for lack of a better term. TRy the Zone lab’s Omega’s, they are spendy but no fish burps.
