Injecting Strawberries.

by Janae on February 18, 2012

Chick-fil-A, where in the world have you been ALL my life?  Yesterday was early out day from school and as soon as I remembered that special little detail I texted my mom that we needed to get lunch together.  Her idea was to meet at the mall so that we could eat and walk around which was brilliant.

We both chose Chick-fil-A for lunch and between the best lemonade in the world, fresh fruit and the best fast-food grilled chicken sandwich I have ever had, I was more than pleased.  Sorry Subway, I may have found a new love.

Photo

After cruising around the mall the lack of sleep finally caught up with me and so I grabbed my laptop and turned on a little Grey’s Anatomy and took a 2 hour nap in my bed.  I woke up just in time to crash dinner with my sister and her kids, she is the coupon queen and hooked us up with a really cheap dinner.

IMG 9279

Sunflower seeds, cranberries and bacon bits are a necessary component for my salads lately.

IMG 9281

I introduce you to cheese sticks, a slice of spudalicious pizza (potatoes, cheese and bacon) and a slice of chicken alfredo pizza.

IMG 9283

My BIL and a date came with us too and afterwards we came back to our house.  They work together and I guess there is a big joke at their work about My Little Pony.  Guess what we had to endure for 22 minutes?

IMG 9287

At about 11 we found them in the kitchen injecting strawberries with chocolate…I have a feeling that businesses are going to start copying their amazing idea.

IMG 9288

Trying to decide between a long run today or going on Monday and instead going to pump today…..decisions, decisions. Somebody make up my mind for me.   My half marathon is next Saturday so I should probably do a longish run today and then taper.  I am sure you all really needed to know this but sometimes my fingers don’t stop typing even when I know they should.

———————————————————–

Did you watch/have a My Little Pony when you were little?

-I had a few of them and loved to brush their hair.

Do you like Chick-fil-A?  Ever tried their lemonade?

When was the last time you had pizza?  What toppings did you have on it?  Would you rather eat pizza or pasta?

When do you start tapering for a half?  Do you taper for a half-marathon?

Whoa! I am intrigued by the spudalicious pizza! I’m boring and enjoy a veggie pizza (my favorite one has a ton of zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and then a bunch of other ones I can’t recall) with extra red sauce.

So glad you posted the taper question. I have same situation with a half next Saturday and thought of asking you when I should taper. I need to squeeze in miles since I have been slacking. Doing 11 today, but want to do several on Monday too. Let me know how many you think if you bet a chance. Love veggie pizza toppings, pineapple and mushrooms namely. Thanks, and have a great weekend.

Injecting strawberries is a genius idea- when the choc is on the outer layer, there’s too much potential for messy hands! Have a great time at Body Pump- looking forward to a much deserved rest day tomo *insert happy dance*

I usually run halfs as part of marathon training programs so I’ve never tapered. I don’t think I would anyway though even without the marathon because my base mileage is usually pretty high. Not sure if that makes sense!

I think you should go for a long-ish run today! However, I’ll be going for a short-ish (5 mi) run today and going to pump class :) I couldn’t decide either so I’m letting myself do both and loading up on endorphins!

I normally taper 1 week out. I’ll do a long run of 10 miles the week before and then immediatly cut down my mileage the rest of the week to about half of whatever it was. Not fancy but it has worked for me every single time.

I’ll take 10 chocolate injected strawberries please and thank you. :)

What does BIL do that he has access to syringes and such? And using them for chocolate is an AWESOME idea!!!

I taper for one week for a half – so I vote LR today so you have a full week to taper. Usually I run easy 5-6mi M-W, take Th-Fri off, easy 2mi on Sat, race on Sunday.

We had pizza last night … mine had pepperoni and banana peppers on it. Yum!! :) And I LOVE Chick-Fil-A. I haven’t had it in ages because they don’t have any in this area, but their kids’ meals are the best! And if you give them back the toy, they give you free ice cream!

I had pizza yesterday… shared a surprisingly good frozen Walmart pizza with the two little boys I nanny. I snatched up their crust too = the best part in my opinion.

Um I go to chickfila like twice a week. I love their grilled chicken sandwich but I am currently hooked on their Southwest salad (the tortilla strips they give you to add on top are amazing). Must be a pregnancy thing because I crave this salad! Sometimes I will order a kids meal and trade the toy for a free ice cream! Genius.

Sadly… I was obsessed with My Little Pony when I was a little girl.

I used to love my little pony when I was little…i’m so amused that you ended up watching some last night lol.

Chick-fil-a is YUMMO and i havent had it in a while, thanks for reminding me!

last time I had pizza was actually last sunday…we just went simple with digornio frozen pizza, it was pepperoni…my personal faves are supreme and hawaiian pizza though (whoever thought pineapple on pizza up was a genius)

I slightly taper for my half marathons…since my mileage has grown over the years, I tend to do a 10 miler the week before and slightly shorter runs during the week..and no running the day before. it has worked well for me.

Oh yum! Chick fila A is the best! I’m not a fast food person at all but used to go there all the time back home. They don’t have one by me now..

My vote: Do your long run today! Taper throughout the week – you will feel magical about this decision!

Chick Fil A Lemonade is amazing. I went through a phase a couple weeks ago when I needed to have it every afternoon. Try an Arnold Palmer with half lemonade, half iced tea.

Chica fila is amazing! We have one that opened up about a year ago by us. They have really good nuggets if you are in a nugget mood. Also sometime share some of the fries, they are waffle.

I love, love pizza.

We don’t have Chick-fil-A near me but I was once in an airport that had one and it was the best fast-food chicken salad I’ve ever had! It was like, real food. :)

I’m not sure how I’m going to taper for my half marathon coming up in a month. Maybe rest like a week before…

do the long run today!!:-) I guess I don’t really taper for a half. I have one next Saturday, too, so I will probably just do my speedwork on Tues. instead of Wednesday. I loved My Little Pony when I was a kid! Now my girls like it.
I’ve never had chick-fil-a, but we had pizza the other night – white pizza with eggplant – one of my faves!
Those strawberries look interesting, I’m sure they were tasty! Have a good weekend!

We don’t have Chick-fil-a here :( It does sound delicious though! I would choose pizza over pasta any day. Unless it’s gnocchi…then it would be a tough call!! The last pizza I had was spinach, roasted tomatoes, and ricotta cheese! YUM.

Have a great Saturday!

I would have to agree.. I would pick pizza over pasta unless there is gnocchi! Oh I LOVE gnocchi! So delish!

I love Chick-fil-a… Their nuggets are so good with the chick-fil-a sauce… Try them! I am no a fast food girl, but this doesn’t count as fast food to me! Everything I have had there is so good!

Have a great workout today! I am off to an enrichment b-fast! Crepe bar here I come!!

Mmmm, the food on your blog always looks so good and makes me hungry :)

GOOD LUCK in your half on Saturday! I’m running a half on Saturday too :) I am tapering starting today- I’ll probably do a 10 miler today and a 10k at race pace tomorrow, then some shorter, easier runs during the week to keep my legs loose. I wouldn’t do a long on Monday- only 5 days before your half! I’ve been reading the blog long enough to know that you’re a machine and could easily hammer out some wild distances, but your legs won’t be as fresh as they could be if you don’t taper a bit!!

Good luck, I can’t wait to hear about it!!

Last pizza I had was Chicago-style spinach and mushroom deep dish pizza last week from Bacino’s in Chicago. One of my good college friends is coming up to visit today and she wants to get deep dish pizza, so I’ll be eating it again tonight. No complaints! While I do love pasta, I will take deep dish pizza over pasta anyday!

I’ve only run two half marathons so far and didn’t taper for either. I used Hal Higdon’s Novice I training plan which builds up to a max long run of 10 miles the week before the half, and then jumps to the 13.1 on race day.

I never had it before recently, and now I love it! I have tried their lemonade, but got the “diet” one and didn’t like it…which is weird because I love diet coke! I’m supposed to run 4 miles today because my half is next saturday too and then taper. My hamstrings are SO sore though, ahh!
I don’t think I ever watched my little pony!
I’ve only had chick-fil-a once in my life and it was good but nothing like i neeeded it.
Pizza alllllll the way!! I usually make some at home and put whatever, chicken sausage, spinach, mushrooms, etc.
For my first half I am definitely tapering. I am not really sure how I guess just cut my mileage down and do light workouts? I want to be as fresh as I can be for the half!!

I can’t believe you just tried Chick Fil A for the first time! It is the best fast food ever. I love the lemonade. You’ve got to try the waffle fries (with Chick Fil A sauce) and the milkshakes too. We have pizza probably about twice a month and just had it Wednesday night. I don’t taper too much for a half, but do take it pretty easy the last week – maybe just 2 or 3 short runs.

That pizza looks amazing! And, where do you go for all your salads?! I LOVED My Little Ponies, but only had a few, I do remember having Baby Tooth who came with a a little tooth pillow. I did watch the show religiously I think that was when either Disney or the Family Channel actually planned non-real-life tv shows. Love the lemonade at Chick-fil-a, actually love everything chick-fil-a. I am both glad and sad that they are closed on Sundays.
We just had a free Papa John’s free one topping pizza with pepperoni. I do love my pizza, but I love my pasta too, so I’d go for a baked ziti slice of pizza. Best of both worlds ;-)

My husband loves pizza so we almost eat it weekly. I think the last pizza we had was with friends and it was the Costco ready to bake pizza – $11.99 for 2 larges! I like veggie (and pineapple) pizza the best. I think I’d say pizza over pasta.
For most of my half’s I tapered a week out or so.

I would say PUMP, because I have been wanting to go but all of the 24′s that are sorta in my area have SUPER odd schedules. I mean really, who PUMP’s at 12 in the afternoon?! But if you have any hopes to race, race the half you are probably right and should run long today and not PUMP until after the race.
I don’t usually taper for a half, except for my first one, because it seems like they just fall into place within my full training. But I did race one at the beginning of the month and I used the race as an excuse to be a little lazy the week prior. I even blamed a bad track session on the race….much easier than actually taking the blame and no exist effort ;)
Have a great Saturday!!

Never injected a piece of fruit with a medical needle, that’s an interesting use of the instrument. You guys may be on to something, this might be the secret to get my husband to start eating fruit…JUST INJECT IT WITH CHOCOLATE!

Chick fil A is the bomb dot com. My kids think it is such a magical place too. I love their lemonade, grilled chicken sandwich and their southwest chargrilled chicken salad. I love them because my daughter is allergic to eggs and peanuts, but they will grill her chicken nuggets for me so that she can eat them. Bonus, that they are healthier! Plus they are so nice – I love how they say ‘my pleasure’ But Subway is a heck of a lot cheaper!

I loved My Little Pony when I was little cause their one human friend was named Megan. I am lame like that. What is this ‘joke’ they have at Billy’s work??

Pizza over pasta. Definitely. I love a good BBQ pizza (with bacon) or my own Thai chicken pizza (peanut sauce, mozzerella cheese, cilantro, shredded carrots, water chesnuts, shredded chicken and cashews). You should try it!

Sunflower seeds on a salad are a must! Yum!

I always taper for a half marathon because that was how the plan was set up each time. I must say my legs felt so incredibly fast and speedy I became a big believer in it. Are you looking for a time goal at your half? If not, I’d say long run when you want. If it’s your favorite way to celebrate being off of school……GO FOR IT MONDAY! i don’t think there is a wrong decision here, and that’s probably why you cant decide.

Overall……pizza, but I have been big into the pasta as of late…….and huge into italian bread made into homemade garlic bread. ohhhhh yea.

I have the My Little Pony castle even, with the drawbridge and every episode from TV taped on VHS…I even got the My Little Pony movie for my birthday one year. Have I completed nerded myself out now? ;-D

I will note that I DO NOT like the newer My Little Ponies. They are just not as cute and fun. So glad I got to enjoy them in the 80s and early 90s :)

They are my fav fast food restaurant and I felt so deprived the first year we lived in Bakersfield. They opened one the day before my 29th birthday and I was in heaven! I would have camped out all night with the rest of the cool/crazy people but I was 9 months pregnant with Taylor and Adam frowned upon it. He offered to do it instead. I love Pizza and Pasta. I actually made a small homemade whole wheat flatbread pizza for my lunch today. It has marinara, fresh spinach leaves, lowfat moz, and mushrooms. I’ve never tapered off for a half, I’m always afraid if I do, I won’t be able to make it.

There needs to be more 80′s kid show for thus generation of kids. I had pizza yesterday. It was a Frucheta( don’t know how to spell) veggie pizza. Yummy! :) I don’t really taper for a half. I ran one last weekend ( my fastest yet! ) and I just took the day off before it. For a Marathon, I begin tapering about 2 weeks before it. :)

I stop at CDS to full my water and go potty on my long runs, I love that they keep a basket of diapers out for moms to crab one if in a bind. How cool is that!?

Injecting strawberries with chocolate? Wow that looks pretty good. I would of never thought of it. What kind of chocolate is able to be thin enough to be injected?
