A New Favorite Workout and Grilled Cheese

by Janae on February 23, 2012

I couldn’t get home fast enough after work yesterday.  I had two things on my mind: cereal and The Bachelor.  It is actually quite amazing how I manage to get so many finger prints on my computer screen….one of Billy’s favorite things that I do….also eating right next to my computer, he really loves that.

IMG 9361

Always add extra milk to your bowl of cereal so that you can keep adding more and more cereal.  I had Honey Bunches of Oats (aka the cheap brand called ‘Honey Blenders’) and granola mixture.  All I have to say about The Bachelor is that after he kicked off that girl I liked her even more, such a sweetheart.

A few hours later I managed to burn my dinner.  Don’t worry though, I still managed to eat the insides out:

IMG 9369

The other side of that piece of bread is completely black.

My second sandwich of cheddar cheese and apple slices turned out much better.  Add jam to your grilled cheese.  Believe me on this one.  PS apple slices and cottage cheese are almost as good as grapes and cottage cheese.

IMG 9366

Bad picture of my fudge popsicle but I was trying so desperately to make it look like the popsicle was actually Billy’s body.  He wasn’t amused.

IMG 9371

This is where the night got interesting.  (yes, my knuckle is very creepy looking).

IMG 9374

I went to Turbo Kick last night.  I came home and told Billy that he will be a single man every Wednesday night at 7:30.  I am now hooked onto something else…this is getting out of control.  I realized tonight I like dancing around kicking/punching the air and booty shaking.  Don’t worry, I stood in the back so that no one had to see me.  It didn’t even feel like a workout, I was too busy playing…except for the sumo burpees, that definitely felt like I was working out.

Ever tried kickboxing?  What did you think of it?

Do you add anything to your grilled cheese sandwiches or are you a purist?

What cereal do you have in your house right now?  Do you have any granola?

How have you been getting your cross-training in lately?

Ohh a grilled cheese sounds so good right about now! I love adding omelets or turkey for an added protein boost! Arc training is my cross-training go to these days…it kinda feels like running but I am also being kind to my joints…win!

Try grilled cheese with black beans, chopped onions, and peppers pressed in between! Delicious!

I really do not like kickboxing, can’t put my finger on it – it’s neither good cardio workout for me nor strength…Just jumping around and not sweating enough…I love hardcore;-) for cross training i do a lot of circuit body weight workouts – I just create my own- 15 min and I am in a world of sweat! That usually includes jumping rope, burpees, pushups, jumping squats, jumping ANYTHING! 45 min and I feel 100% better than after any type of class.

Turbo kick sounds like fun! I am afraid I would end up injured;-) I do watch the class through the window while running on the TM–it does look like fun! But it looks even funnier watching people dance/kick around when i can’t hear the music;-) (I mean that in a nice way)

I am horrible at getting cross training in while training for a marathon, I am just too exhausted. But I stretch or do yoga daily.

I love watching classes while I run too! My favorite is watching zumba because then I start dancing while I run! Hey…stretching or yoga daily during marathon training is absolutely awesome!

We like to add tomato or tomato and pesto to our grilled cheeses. We’re fancy like that :) .

I haven’t really been cross training at all, unless walking the dog counts. I do that twice a day.

The only cereal we have are the off-brand apple cinnamon cheerios. They are amazingly delicious, though.

I’m typically a grilled cheese purist, but it depends – if it’s alongside tomato soup, it can’t be adulterated!

I’ve never tried kickboxing but it sounds like fun- good way to burn energy and turn around a grumpy mood.

I like my cheese sandwiches either pure, or with tomato and avocado.

I always have cereal in the house! Right now- fitness fruits and granola.

In High School I took a class called Cardio Kickboxing, I had lots of fun in it but haven’t taken anything like since.
Apples, pears are awesome in grilled cheese or avocado, spinach, tomato, but my favorite combo is leftover turkey from the holidays, cranberry sauce, avocado, apple and spicy havarti cheese.
My husband loves cereal, while I only eat Multigrain Cheerios in my yogurt and smoothie bowls but we currently have: Mini Wheats, Vector, Multigrain Cheerios, and Shreddies.
Sure have! I cross train 3 nights a week with the elliptical and swimming and run twice. Since I am not racing this year I am running less for a bit of a break.

You should try it again! OH YES, your leftover grilled cheese combo is incredible! 3 nights a week..that is AWESOME!

I love jam on my egg and cheese sandwiches so I’m sure it’s great with grilled cheese too!
I used to be obsessed with kickboxing. It’s such a fun workout and it’s really good.
I have cinnamon puffins and peanut butter panda balls or whatever, I’m out of granola!
I’ve been doing Bikram yoga for cross training so I’m fresh for my half:)

love kickboxing…well, let me re-state. it depends on the instructor but with a good one, the workout is amazing and fun.

love my grilled cheese sandwiches…just bread, butter and cheese.

the hubs loves honey bunches of o’s. i used to love cereal but for some reason, now when i eat a bowl, my tummy does not care for it.

getting my training in is a must.

I love kickboxing!!! I take a kick boxing/dance/cardio class about once a week and it leaves me sweaty but very happy! Have fun getting hooked on it!

I like to get all fancy with my grilled cheese… like adding different types of cheeses, pepperjack is my fav. Also adding veggies like spinach and tomato slices bump up the fancy factor. Yum! Currently, I cant keep my hands out of the Kashi Go Lean Crisp box! ITS SOOO GOOD!

I do a lot of DVDs for cross training, this week its been Kelley Coffee Meyer and good ole Jillian!

Haha I used to go round and round the cereal cycle: too much milk? add more cereal! extra cereal? add more milk. I’d do that about 8 times until my bowl was perfectly empty!!

And I have a grilled cheese combo for you: cheddar, apple slices, maple syrup, and hot sauce! Or, pesto, cranberry sauce, apples, and spinach.

Grill cheese with any bread and american or cheddar cheese and dip it into maple syrup YUM!

I’ve been cross training like a machine lately incorporating a lot of plyometrics into my workouts. Let’s just hope that JUMPING + BOUNDING + A WIDE VARIETY OF SPEED WORK= ONE SUPER FAST RUNNING LADY
MACHINE! So far I’m thinking it working as my speed workouts are feeling easier and I’m having to up the intensity.

P.S. I love having frosted flakes for a snack where I keep adding cereal to the bowl to make the milk sweeter. Yummo :)

I love kickboxing! It’s so much fun and a great workout! It’s like free anger management classes haha.

I love adding some laughing cow cheese to my grilled cheese (yes, double cheese) or bacon. I promise it’s good! I like dipping it in ketchup or in something sweet like jam. I’m pretty sure I have been known to put peanut butter on my grilled cheese as well. Yes, pb goes on everything.

I have special k protein plus, some sort of organic honey bunches of oats, cinnamon puffins, and love grown granola. I have two kinds right now – cinnamon almond crunch and sweet cranberry pecan. They are SO good!

I am a grilled cheese originalist although putting jam on it doesnt sound too bad. I’m thinking a grilled cheese on cinnamon raisin bread might be tasty.
I took a class on tuesday and I am still sore, love it!

Reply

35 lauren February 23, 2012 at 10:49 am

they are both aerobic. Turbo just has a little dancing added in and the songs are chorographed, kickboxing is just whatever punches and kicks i feel like throwing lol! Turbo is a lttle faster paced i think too.

36 Janae February 23, 2012 at 11:07 am

That is so cool! Thanks Lauren! I should try out kick boxing too although I really did love the little dancing parts:)

we have crunch berries in the house right now, lol. but those of Kev’s…its been a while since i bought a box of cereal, i’m super into oatmeal during cold weather. I love Kashi go lean crunch, cinnamon toast crunch, and honey nut cheerios to death though :)

todays crosstraining was arctrainer and stairmaster. i crosstrain 2 days a week, running more then 4 days a week makes my body all wonky…i try not to do more then that too often.

I am meeting up with my friends later today to head down to St George for the weekend. I am not running the half, but I do plan on running while down there. Perhaps I will run into you at Krave (their local fro yo joint – the closest Yogurtland is in Vegas. Sniff.)

I have tried kick boxing!! Super fun. You’re right, it doesn’t feel like a workout but it sure is one! I for sure walked out of the class breaking a sweat.
Ahh cereal! <3 Right now I'm a Special K Fruit & Yogurt fan. So so so yummy. And we have Back To Nature's Vanilla Almond Agave granola from Whole Foods. It is TO DIE FOR. Absolutely delicious with and without milk! :)

Super sharp cheddar and thinly sliced apples on the grilled cheese! SO GOOD!

I like kickboxing, but lack coordination, which I’m sure is comical for the others in the class. Also, the class at my gym is usually pretty crowded, so you spend a lot of time actually ducking kick and punches from the person in front of you who does not realize you are there.

The only cereal we have right now is Berry Kix, which I bought for my 3 year old, but we all know who ends up eating it ….

I watched an Episode of Sandwich King on the Food Network where Jeff Mauro added caramelized onions to a grilled cheese sandwich… so that is my current inspiration on grilled cheese accompaniments!

My husband goes through cereal like water, so we always have a ton of it in the house. We currently have three different types of Special K, Quaker Oatmeal Squares, Multigrain Cheerios, and some generic rice krispie cereal left over from making rice krispie treats awhile back.

Never tried kickboxing, but I have tried cardioboxing and enjoyed it! Boxing really works your back muscles! It’s a nice way to balance out all the lower-body exercises.

If you like that workout you have got to find a gym that offers “real” boxing/kick-boxing classes – with heavy bags. It is so much fun you will love it I promise. And that knuckle of yours will look super hard core when it gets bruised and bloody from punching the heck out of the bag. Trust me, try it.

I discovered the ArcTrainer at the gym is SO AWESOME for my cross training. I HATE the elliptical but the Arc Trainer has absolutely no impact for my hips/femurs (still paranoid about stress fractures) and I always sweat an insane amount on the thing so I feel like it’s getting the job done. Have you ever tried one? I always thought they were a bit intimidating until a friend told me she loved it so I finally tried. Obsessed! Bye bye elliptical!

I love me some Turbokick/Kickboxing! It makes me feel all powerful like I can whoop up on somebody. Okay not really but it’s fun.

My fave type of cross training is dancing. I like being able to let loose. I love workouts that don’t really feel like a work out, more like you’re at the club :-)

Grilled cheese sounds so yummy! I found this buffalo chicken grilled cheese recipe on Pinterest I’ve been meaning to try. Never had grilled cheese w/ jam will have to try it!

Are those the “Swiss Miss” fudge bars? If so, they are SO good! We have those in our freezer right now!

I’ve done kickboxing twice and LOVE it! It’s fun to switch things up with workouts!

I agree–jelly on grilled cheese is super good! Especially raspberry or strawberry! I could go for that for dinner!

We have 7 boxes of cereal right now because we are cereal fiends. Andy and I usually each eat a bowl of it before bed.

I’ve been doing a lot of elliptical intervals and spin classes lately!

I love turbo kick!!! Chalene Johnson (the creator of turbo kick) teaches in Irvine! When you are in CA this summer you will have to take a “live” class with her! She is amazing!!!! Today was my 1st day back to turbo kick since my hip surgery!! I was the granny in back but was so happy to be there!! I am sick of the recumbent bike! (Even though it is a great place to get caught up on your blog!!!)

HEY YOU!!! Seriously, egg sandwiches with am are amazing. I take one full rest day a week and sometimes more. That is definitely a sign of overtraining if you are always sore and tired and I think you should back off a little so that you don’t get injured and have to back off all together:) YUM…I have to try the PB cheerios. Hope you are having an amazing day Kathryn!

Mmmm, grilled cheese is the best! I don’t know if I’m brave enough to try jam on it :-P but I love using different kinds of cheese! Right now I’m loving herbed havarti on grilled cheese.

Do i have cereal in my house? Such a silly question :-) What cereal don’t I have in my house is more like it. I’m totally loving the new Honey Nut flavor of Oatmeal Squares. Do it!! Love them. Also, staples are Cinnamon Life, Honey Nut Cheerios, and right now i’m channeling my inner child by eating the new Cinnabon cereal and the Marshmellow Pebbles…oh yes.

My wife makes me super awesome pepper jack grilled cheese sammies with bacon and spicy ranch on honey wheat bread. Super delish! It’s cold here in MN and I’m super sick of the treadmill so I’ve been doing a lot of elliptical workouts and yoga classes to mix it up and keep it fresh! Good luck on your upcoming race, you’re going to kill it! :)
