The BEST snack in the world.

I guess my mom reads my blog because in my post yesterday I told her to get me grapes.  I got a text during school saying, “Grapes and cottage cheese secured.”

Photo copy

Okay, so it wasn’t just from the blog but I may have also written it in large, bolded letters on her grocery list: GRAPES AND COTTAGE CHEESE.

I went over to my parent’s house right after school while Billy was still in class to get my goodies.

You know how I portray on the blog that I am such a good aunt and so very loving.  Well, the truth has to come out at some point and I’ve gotta be real.

I am not good at sharing.

Photo

She said she just wanted one.  So, that is all I gave her even though she really wanted more.  There may have been a minor tantrum (me, not the child).

I don’t know about you, but I believe that cottage cheese and grapes are the best combination in the world and this will be my snack every 1.5 hours for the next 6 days.

Dear Mom,

You buying these for me means the world to me, I am forever in debt to you.

I ate WAY too much protein throughout the day (1:6 protein to carb ratio compared to my normal 1:45 protein to carb ratio) and so all I wanted was a crispy waffle and cc with grapes.  (I ate bbq chicken at my parents for dinner when they were eating at 5 so this was more of a diner #2:)

Time to go buy another gallon of syrup.

What is your favorite snack lately?  What do you LOVE eating cottage cheese with?

-Nothing beats cc with grapes or cc with wheat thins, nothing.

Do you try to eat protein at every meal?  Do you think you eat enough protein?

-I don’t but I am going to start trying to starting NOW;)  The cottage cheese will help big time!

Anyone else going to be graduating at some point in 2012!?!?  What about 2013?!?!

WHO is running today?!? Where, what?

-PICK ME, PICK ME!!! I am doing an early morning treadmill run because I have a hot date after school tomorrow with the Billster.

As far as protein goes, I’ve been eating a lot of beans, nuts and eggs lately…not as much meat.

Your mom is so sweet! My mom loves to pile us up w/food before we leave their house too.

I always put cottage cheese on my salad. I am trying to make a point of eating protein at every meal and some snacks–I think I get enough, but it probably wouldn’t hurt if I ate a bit more.

Rest day today!

P.S. I don’t share my food w/my daughter either…. Thats what my husbands plate is for;-)

Favorite snack is probably cottage cheese. I eat it every night before bed (yay casein!).
I make SURE that I have protein at every meal, whether it’s protein powder, chicken, fish, Greek yogurt, eggs, or cottage cheese, it’s always there.
I’ll be graduating with my BS in Dietetics in May 2013.

I wish I could run today.. back spasms are officially cramping my style. Day #3 of lying on the couch on a heating pad and reading about running = cruel torture!

Those waffles look delicious! I wonder if Ryan can be convinced to make waffles for me since I’m incapacitated and he would get lots of brownie points :)

My favorite snack right now is a trail mix of cashews, peanuts, almonds, dark chocolate, raisins and chex mix. SO GOOD. I think this is a pregnancy thing because this sounds good every afternoon and pre pregnancy I wasn’t too big on trail mix. Have a great day!

my run today was 3.5 miles this morning at 5:30am..was forced to get to the gym early due to a fire alarm, otherwise i would have gone in the afternoon where i have 2983928x more energy!

I will be hitting up the gym for a run tonight!

I tried cottage cheese for a while, usually with an apple for breakfast, but I just couldn’t get past the texture… might be why I don’t like oatmeal or rice pudding either?

Love that combination!! Grapes and CC!!!

I will be graduating Autumn of 2013!!!!

I ran this morning!

I try to eat A LOT of protein becuase it really does fill me up !!

I am not a huge cottage cheese fan, but those grapes are making my tastebuds tingle!! I will be graduating from my master’s program in the summer of 2013, and I cannot wait!!! As far as a run, I’ll be hitting up an early morning 3 miler, and then a legs and abs routine. I feel I’ve been top-heavy in the radio, and not balanced enough with strenght training.

I always have to eat protein with every meal. It keeps me full and satisfied!
I’m running today!! Not sure if it’ll be outside or on the treadmill yet.

According to my half-marathon training schedule (bain of my existence at this point) I will be doing 5 miles of some sort of jog/walk/crawl on the treadmill this evening:)

Favorite snack lately has been saltine Goldfish. Lame, but somehow totally effective in the happy department!

Apple and peanut butter is a great snack!
I have only ever eaten cottage cheese on its own…not brave enough to try anything else with it.
I try to make sure there is protein in every meal of mine, if not I find myself hungry 2 hours later.
Its my rest day! But because I am working till 9pm :(

Reply

I can’t get over the texture of cottage cheese. I’ve been having apples and peanut butter lately for my snacks.

Seriously, what does the cover of Billy’s book say?

I ran this morning on the treadmill. I was still pretty much asleep, so it was ROUGH.

I am not a cottage cheese fan but I DO like halved grapes and ricotta on toast!
And I’m finishing up my undergrad this May!!

Reply

I’ve been doing cottage cheese with cherry tomatoes – pretty good, but I bet grapes would be even better (sweet>savory…always).

I started P90X over the weekend, so I’ve been eating a ridiculous amount of protein (following the nutrition plan). I’m supposed to do five servings of protein a day… it’s quite the challenge for me. I’m a carby girl at heart!

Reply

Those grapes look so yummy! I think Curly needs to make a cameo appearance in every one of your blog posts, she is just too cute. I’ll be hitting the treadmill for hill repeats (I live in FLAT Houston) and then some weights.

Reply

never tried grapes with cottage cheese – do you put the grapes inside a bowl of CC? i usually just do cottage cheese alone – back in the day i used to mix it with rice krispies and peach slices, and that was super dooper yum.

i do have protein at every meal AND i am running an hour and thirty minutes today along the Charles River in Boston :)

Reply

I ran on Tuesday and it felt awesome!!

We have some grapes, and now I really want to eat ’em….that’s odd…… ;)

I’ll have to try that combo–it sounds good! And I might share with my kids, unlike the cruel aunt that you are! ; )

Ran 7 miles today after swimming 3,200. Felt great!

-PB Lara bar

Do you try to eat protein at every meal? Do you think you eat enough protein?

-I do my best but they want you to be eating at least 80 grams of protein while pregnant, that is hard when you don’t eat meat! AHHH! Been living on greek yogurt and beans lately!

Anyone else going to be graduating at some point in 2012!?!? What about 2013?!?!

Yes, will finally be done with my MBA at the end of this year! YIPEE!

WHO is running today?!? Where, what?
Sadly, my last run was about 2 weeks ago, I made it about 7.5 months while pregnant, kind of disappointed I couldn’t run until the end

Random ?: Did I miss an announcement of where Billy got into law school? I’m still rooting for somewhere in Boston :)

I will be graduating from college in May and starting medical school in August! I was planning on five miles of speedwork today but I have a hideous cold so I’m thinking maybe I’ll do pilates instead.

I have never tried that combo, but I will take your word and give it a shot. Yesterday I got offered fried grasshopper as a snack! no gracias. haha.

Today I am getting my run on in the afternoon… an easy 7 :)

Reply

I’ve been eating Zima Tomatoes like they are going out of style. They are so sweet that they taste like candy! I’ve been eating a lot of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese lately too. I think cottage cheese is awesome with anything – grapes, almond butter, fig butter, bb

Reply

oops – to finish… bbq sauce (don’t judge), pretty much anything!

I do try to eat protein at every meal and snack. I aim for 100 grams each day, but I don’t always get there.

Reply

My favorite snack is wheat thins and jalapeno pimento cheese from Whole Foods. It’s AMAZING and dangerously addicting. I only let myself buy it once a month or so. My favorite healthy snack is baby carrots and roasted red pepper hummus (love the Sabre brand). I need to try the grapes and cottage cheese combo. No running for me today…went to a Crossfit type gym yesterday and got my butt kicked. My whole body is feeling it right now!

Reply

It has taken me a long time to come to terms with cottage cheese. The texture creeps me out a little, but I’ve learned to like it with tomatoes. Next stop… pineapples!
My favorite snack is strawberries! I can’t wait until they come into season again.
No running today :( been sick and trying to not do much so I can feel better faster!

Reply

I love cottage cheese with peanuts..so yummy.

I need to get up and on the dreadmill, I am having a hard time getting motivated.

Reply

I love them both on their own but have never combined grapes and cottage cheese!

Reply

I don’t really like cottage cheese (I Know, I know). Once in awhile I’ll buy a few with the mixed fruit and really enjoy them but I lose my appetitie for it REALLY quick. I really like either laughing cow cheese or cream cheese on a eggo or eating right waffle with a little bit of strawberry or raspberry jam .. mmmmm so good!

I was just thinking back to waffles and pancakes and stuff, I NEVER put syrup on them, EVER. If I make pancakes at home I top them with greek yogurt, or peanut butter and I never order them at a restaraunt. I had them off a buffet once awhile back and I put strawberries on top.

I plan to run 5K today :)

I was supposed to go running at 5 this morning, but for some reason my alarm didn’t go off and I was sad when I woke up and discovered I had left my running partners waiting for a little bit! For me I try to make sure I eat a veggie and fruit at every meal, but for breakfast I always have some type of protein. My favorite snack right now speaking of protein, is apples and peanut butter! I think I need to upgrade the size of my next peanut butter container so it can last longer. I LOVE GRAPES TOO! When I first got married I told my husband that no matter how expensive grapes are, we are always going to have them in our house. We recently purchased some from Wal-Mart and I am shocked because they are the best grapes I have had in a long time.

My husband is also graduating in 2012, and we too have to figure out where we are going next! It’s a hard decision and it’s sad to leave everyone, but we are also excited about the next adventure!

This is gonna sound gross but I promise it’s yummy – I love cottage cheese mixed with salsa and black beans. Then I eat it with wheat thins or tortilla strips. (OR carrots if i’m feeling really healthy.) It looks gross but is amazing I promise!!

My workout will be a nice 4 miler, outside if it stops raining here I Nashville.

Have a great day!

Reply

My favorite snack lately has been dark chocolate covered raisins.

I try to have protein with every meal. This may sound gross, but i love cottage cheese bananas. If the bananas are ripe, I’ll actually mash it up, mix it with cottage cheese, add some sugar/splenda, and then add some cereal (or maybe I’ll try a graham cracker next time!) to it….swear it tastes just like banana cream pie but a heck of a lot healthier!

Reply

I used to eat cottage cheese with mandarin oranges. Slightly frozen mango chunks are also good with cc. Favorite snack?? Cereal

I try to at every meal and it varies from day to day on getting enough protein.

I should be graduating in 2013.

I definitely try to eat protein at every meal but mostly when I’m doing lots of hard exercise. If I’m taking it easy that week I worry about it way less.
I ran 3 on the treadmill this morning as my last run before my half marathon this weekend! First one since stress fractured hip and Celiac diagnosis. It’s been 2 years and I’m SO excited!!

I ran 3 miles this morning – slowly, but it’s been a tough week so I’ll take it!

I’ve never had cottage cheese (well since I was a baby) … but I’ve been snacking on Greek yogurt even more lately. I aim to get a good amount of protein, this week I’ve definitely increased it with the yogurt.

My go-to snacks usually involve mixed nuts or nutbutter in any form. Or fruit.

Cottage cheese and wheat thins is one of my favorite snacks too! My cousin and I used to sneak the cottage cheese and box of wheat thins out of my grandma’s kitchen and hide behind her rose bushes in the yard and eat the whole tub. Too funny!

Unrelated to this post, but yesterdays on shorter strides…

I heard the voice of your blog (you know, that voice we make up in our head when we read somebody else’s writing) and tried to take shorter strides. Felt much more comfy, but against all that wisdom that says taking longer strides means less steps to the finish. I guess the key is not to ‘over-stride’. But your other tips were such right on that I’m gonna see what happens.

In other news, some unrelated, some not: now leaning towards Chicago instead of NYCM, eating mint chocolate wafers made by the keebler elves, and found all sorts of yummy designer honey to put in tea that has me buzzing like a bee.

Reply

I bought grapes the other day and when I went to wash them they were covered in what looked like spider webs…yuck! I hope yours are much better.

My favorite snack right now is fresh fruit with a protein ball. Which leads to your next question, I do try to eat protein in every meal. It fills me up and keeps me full so much longer! I typically get 50-70 grams of protein a day.

No running today, but I have a “long” run planned for tomorrow. Hoping to do 5 miles, but I’d be thrilled if I could keep going to 6 :)

I LOVE cc. I add it to my veggie scrambles…it melts down to an ooey gooey healthy gravey like consistency. Sounds gross but it’s delish, I swear!

Trying to motivate myself to run. Tips? Today is not my day for putting miles in…uggghhffff.

I was addicted to cottage cheese + blueberries in the summer, so I can see how cottage cheese + grapes would be a good combo… I’ll have to give it a try!

Oh, we love grapes, and we love to keep them in the freezer at all times! My favorite snack right now though is popcorn- every afternoon at work.

And I will be graduating with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in April! So over the top excited!!

Favorite snack lately is Greek Yogurt with honey, sprinkle some flax and maple flakes on it, then some wheatgerm on that, and top with lots of blueberries. Yum!

I’ve been loving random cottage cheese concoctions lately! Mixed with a little jam and wrapped up in a whole wheat wrapped smeared with some crunchy PB… OR mixed with some cocoa powder, cereal, and chocolate chips… HOLY YUM!!!
