The BEST snack in the world.

January 26, 2012

I guess my mom reads my blog because in my post yesterday I told her to get me grapes.  I got a text during school saying, “Grapes and cottage cheese secured.”

Photo copy

Okay, so it wasn’t just from the blog but I may have also written it in large, bolded letters on her grocery list: GRAPES AND COTTAGE CHEESE.

I went over to my parent’s house right after school while Billy was still in class to get my goodies.

You know how I portray on the blog that I am such a good aunt and so very loving.  Well, the truth has to come out at some point and I’ve gotta be real.

I am not good at sharing.

Photo

She said she just wanted one.  So, that is all I gave her even though she really wanted more.  There may have been a minor tantrum (me, not the child).

I don’t know about you, but I believe that cottage cheese and grapes are the best combination in the world and this will be my snack every 1.5 hours for the next 6 days.

Dear Mom,

You buying these for me means the world to me, I am forever in debt to you.

I ate WAY too much protein throughout the day (1:6 protein to carb ratio compared to my normal 1:45 protein to carb ratio) and so all I wanted was a crispy waffle and cc with grapes.  (I ate bbq chicken at my parents for dinner when they were eating at 5 so this was more of a diner #2:)

IMG 0176

Time to go buy another gallon of syrup.

—————————————————————-

What is your favorite snack lately?  What do you LOVE eating cottage cheese with?

-Nothing beats cc with grapes or cc with wheat thins, nothing.

Do you try to eat protein at every meal?  Do you think you eat enough protein?

-I don’t but I am going to start trying to starting NOW;)  The cottage cheese will help big time!

Anyone else going to be graduating at some point in 2012!?!?  What about 2013?!?!

WHO is running today?!? Where, what?

-PICK ME, PICK ME!!! I am doing an early morning treadmill run because I have a hot date after school tomorrow with the Billster.

Kaitlyn @ Pain Can Be Fun January 26, 2012 at 5:56 am

I ran!!!!!! 2 quick miles bright and early this morning around my neighborhood. And by FAR my favorite snack is an apple with peanut butter. Sooooo good. Also wheat thins and hummus.
As far as protein goes, I’ve been eating a lot of beans, nuts and eggs lately…not as much meat.
AND…I’m graduating grad school in MAY 2013! Counting the days already.
Have a great day!

I loooovvvvveeee grapes. For a while there I was eating a bag a day, but I’ve tried to scale it back to about 2 a week now. Haha.
I will be graduating from physical therapy school in 3 months, 17 days (yes, I may have a countdown going on). I. can. not. wait.

Your mom is so sweet! My mom loves to pile us up w/food before we leave their house too.

I always put cottage cheese on my salad. I am trying to make a point of eating protein at every meal and some snacks–I think I get enough, but it probably wouldn’t hurt if I ate a bit more.

Rest day today!

P.S. I don’t share my food w/my daughter either…. Thats what my husbands plate is for;-)

Favorite snack is probably cottage cheese. I eat it every night before bed (yay casein!).
I make SURE that I have protein at every meal, whether it’s protein powder, chicken, fish, Greek yogurt, eggs, or cottage cheese, it’s always there.
I’ll be graduating with my BS in Dietetics in May 2013.
I ran 2.2 miles today as a warmup/cooldown around lifting weights. Treadmillin’ fo lyfe.

I started P90X over the weekend, so I’ve been eating a ridiculous amount of protein (following the nutrition plan). I’m supposed to do five servings of protein a day… it’s quite the challenge for me. I’m a carby girl at heart!

I don’t really like cottage cheese (I Know, I know). Once in awhile I’ll buy a few with the mixed fruit and really enjoy them but I lose my appetitie for it REALLY quick. I really like either laughing cow cheese or cream cheese on a eggo or eating right waffle with a little bit of strawberry or raspberry jam .. mmmmm so good!

I was just thinking back to waffles and pancakes and stuff, I NEVER put syrup on them, EVER. If I make pancakes at home I top them with greek yogurt, or peanut butter and I never order them at a restaraunt. I had them off a buffet once awhile back and I put strawberries on top.

I plan to run 5K today :)

I was supposed to go running at 5 this morning, but for some reason my alarm didn’t go off and I was sad when I woke up and discovered I had left my running partners waiting for a little bit! For me I try to make sure I eat a veggie and fruit at every meal, but for breakfast I always have some type of protein. My favorite snack right now speaking of protein, is apples and peanut butter! I think I need to upgrade the size of my next peanut butter container so it can last longer. I LOVE GRAPES TOO! When I first got married I told my husband that no matter how expensive grapes are, we are always going to have them in our house. We recently purchased some from Wal-Mart and I am shocked because they are the best grapes I have had in a long time.

My husband is also graduating in 2012, and we too have to figure out where we are going next! It’s a hard decision and it’s sad to leave everyone, but we are also excited about the next adventure!

If the bananas are ripe, I’ll actually mash it up, mix it with cottage cheese, add some sugar/splenda, and then add some cereal (or maybe I’ll try a graham cracker next time!) to it….swear it tastes just like banana cream pie but a heck of a lot healthier!

I am stuck on Dannon greek yogurt and granola….:) LOVE cc and wheat thins! I like to put sunflower seeds in mine too.
I try to get as much protein as I can…..at least some in every meal.

I have one more run this week and I am doing it on my birthday tomorrow :)

My boyfriend Joe will be graduating from law school next spring.
I will be starting this fall as a Junior at SFSU (for kinesiology), so I’ll be done in 2014. Seems so far away!
My favorite snacks have to come in a package because I’m always driving around all day (so bananas are perfect, and I’ve been getting boxes of Clif Mojo bars because I eat at least one bar everyday).

Cottage cheese and wheat thins is one of my favorite snacks too! My cousin and I used to sneak the cottage cheese and box of wheat thins out of my grandma’s kitchen and hide behind her rose bushes in the yard and eat the whole tub. Too funny!

CC is also super good mixed with blackberry (or any) jam. Delish!

This is making me what to go out and buy some grapes! Green are definitely my favorite, although it might be all in my head.

Cottage cheese and canned peaches. Yes, canned. It’s the only time I eat canned peaches. Yumm.

I have been snacking on string cheese and clementines, yum! I am drooling over that waffle, and you better not run out of syrup. That would be tragic!

I have been working hard to eat more protien at every meal. I even made tempo fix an egg for breakfast today. My hair is a mess, but I had my protien! :)

I ran yesterday and will again on Friday.

Cottage cheese + salsa or + wheat thins, or combine the three!

I did an early morning treadmill run.. nice and short since I ran the Carlsbad Marathon on the 22nd! I had to get my workout in before the school day started! :)

I had an awesome 8 mile tempo run last night, wahoo! While watching the Bachelor… Can I just say (again) I can not stand the model girl! Grrr. She bothers me.

Tonight, I have a nice easy run (but I will be throwing in hills — because I have realized I am weak and Heartbreak Hill will kill me if I don’t prepare).

After 3 weeks off, I finally had my first run, after getting some new shoes! I was so excited … I’m really hoping that my new shoes and inserts will help kick the shin splints!

I wish I was running today. This chick is sick! Boo!

Loved cottage cheese and wheat thins until my Grandmother introduced me to cottage cheese and (real not canned) cranberry sauce. It’s so good. Still love my CC with wheat thins though. Maybe I should try CC with CS and WT!

Unrelated to this post, but yesterdays on shorter strides…

I heard the voice of your blog (you know, that voice we make up in our head when we read somebody else’s writing) and tried to take shorter strides. Felt much more comfy, but against all that wisdom that says taking longer strides means less steps to the finish. I guess the key is not to ‘over-stride’. But your other tips were such right on that I’m gonna see what happens.

In other news, some unrelated, some not: now leaning towards Chicago instead of NYCM, eating mint chocolate wafers made by the keebler elves, and found all sorts of yummy designer honey to put in tea that has me buzzing like a bee.

I bought grapes the other day and when I went to wash them they were covered in what looked like spider webs…yuck! I hope yours are much better.

My favorite snack right now is fresh fruit with a protein ball. Which leads to your next question, I do try to eat protein in every meal. It fills me up and keeps me full so much longer! I typically get 50-70 grams of protein a day.

No running today, but I have a “long” run planned for tomorrow. Hoping to do 5 miles, but I’d be thrilled if I could keep going to 6 :)

So glad you are listening to your body- it’s so hard not to run. I always have to force myself to take rest days- but I need them now more than ever!

I NEED my protein, but love my veggies!!!

I am getting a certification to be a holistic health coach and I complete it in July. My hubby is hoping to finish his PhD by December:)

Did 7 miles on the treadmill with 4 up tempo and Nike Training Camp 15 min leg toner!

Happy Thursday!

Just had cottage cheese for lunch–I’m channeling your snack-attacks and as the BL13 stated, it was more protein than hard boiled eggs!! Curly gets cuter every post!

I can’t read Billy’s book either…don’t feel bad, he’s a bright one!! Watch out Law School!!!

I cannot stand cottage cheese. I don’t think I’m a picky person but that is one thing I can’t eat. I do love the other half of that snack ;)
I a graduating in may! I am so excited/terrified. But I am applying to grad school so I hope I get in (:
Ooh I ran today. I picked the treadmill over yoga and it felt so good.

Grapes and cheese? Where is the ice crem? Chocolate? Cake? Batter? At least there are waffles in this post!
You need to try freezing your grapes (if you haven`t already, since I`m sure you know a ton of desserts/snacks), it`s more like ice cream, and so good!

I had an interval run on the treadmill at the gym. It went really well except that it was friggin’ HOT in the gym.

My favorite snack is the peanut butter filled pretzels from TJ’s. Unfortunately, they don’t last very long!

I LOVE cc. I add it to my veggie scrambles…it melts down to an ooey gooey healthy gravey like consistency. Sounds gross but it’s delish, I swear!

Trying to motivate myself to run. Tips? Today is not my day for putting miles in…uggghhffff.
