Quarantined and Healing Foods

Taking a sick day actually turned out to be pretty fun.  Besides the whole head spinning thing and feeling like I should be somewhat productive and organize my kitchen cabinets, I did manage to leave the house one time in 36 hours.  I just had to get to Walmart for the necessities in life.

Frozen fudge bars, a gallon of Tapatio, ketchup and jolly ranchers.  Everything I need to get me through the next 4 days.

Photo

Billy is a good partner in crime even when all I want to do is sit on the couch and so we watched a few hours of TV, took a few naps and ate saltines by the stack.

Photo copy

Then I tried to convince my mom that she needed to come over and take care of us (Billy was sick last week and I tried to use that to help sway her to come over) but I guess she had things to do so I went for it and made dinner.

Studies show that when you have a cold you should take in large amounts of cheese and carbohydrates in order to speed up your recovery by 2 whole days.  The homemade pizza recipe that I use is found HERE.  Because I decided to walk right by the produce (sorry but veggies do not sound good when you are sick) section at the grocery store we just had a plain cheese pizza.  PS pizza stones help make the best pizzas ever…it gets the crust extra crispy.

And now after eating two of my fudge popsicles that I bought today, Billy is doing his ‘I told you so face.’  While standing in front of the popsicles he said that we should splurge and get the 18-pack and I said no because I just wanted a few.  Turns out I now only have 4 fudge pops left (soon to be 3) and I am kicking myself for not going big and getting more.  Why is he always right?

What were the last 4 things that you bought at the grocery store?

Remember how I used to wake up early to work out?  Well, for some reason I can’t anymore…..any tips/tricks/advice that helps you to get up early to get working out?

Ever made homemade pizza?  Feel free to link away any recipes for us to try out in the comments, I am wanting to turn this into a weekly thing!

What was the last cheesy, delicious thing that you ate?  Do you eat cheese?

The last cheesy thing I ate was pizza when I was sick last week. So comforting!!

Feel better :)

We just did a big shopping trip to the grocery, but here are four things we picked up: granola, yogurt, pasta and hamburg.
I never run before work…nope
Tried homemade pizza once. It didn’t turn out well, but I’m ready to try again. Yours looks so good.
We had chili spaghetti the other night and I load mine up with cheese – soooo yummy!

My BIL makes the homemade pizza for all of us. He used to work at a pizza shop so it is always really good. He made a white pizza for us a little bit ago! I always look for the pieces with the most cheese!
Two nights ago I made dough in the bread maker then cut hot dogs and put cheese in them. I then wrap the dogs with the dough and cook them. It is a bigger version of pigs in the blanket and yummy!

My mom makes the BEST pizza!! She’s the Italian side of me so she was born a pro pizza maker! It’s seriously the best thing ever.

The last cheesy thing I ate was a quesadilla! Dean and I made some last weekend with chicken, cheese, guac and salsa. SO GOOD.

Hope you’re feeling better today :)

Reply

THANKS CHRISTINA!! You should share the recipe with me. Um…your quesadilla sounds incredible!

Reply

Hope all that cheesy goodness worked its magic and you are feeling better! Boy am I craving cheese now, despite my dinner last night: Spaghetti in marinara sauce mixed with veggies, veg sausages, topped with cheddar and then baked–> SO YUM! I love finding ‘fun’ items at the supermarket….I saw Goldfish being sold in our supermarket on Sunday and I was all over them! I haven’t eaten them since I was a kid and yes the baked kind taste just as good! HAve you tried them on salad? If not, I highly recommend you get on it!

True life, that is the best most wonderful way to get better. Sit around, watch Hulu, and EAT CARBS. Feel better love! We’re both in the same sicky boat. Boo!

Reply

Your pizza looks good! I bought Fage yogurt, Vitatops (muffins), apples, carrots, and hummus. I’m just on the edge of getting a cold, and I’m trying to over come it. Hope you feel better!

Reply

Get well soon! And I have no tips on getting up early to workout anymore. Since I read I wasn’t getting enough sleep – I have turned into a mid-day and afternoon worker-outer.

Reply

Do you make your own crust too?? The pizza stone changed my life, will never make a pizza without it! I don’t eat cheese, but I make nachos all the time for the kids. they love them.
The last four things I bought at the store were bagels, mac and cheese, milk and granola bars. I still have to actually go grocery shopping today:)
I have to talk myself into the morning workout – it goes something like, you will be nicer, happier and an all around better person if you get it over with. and you won’t have to think about it for the rest of the day. love the morning workout!

Reply

YES….seriously the pizza stone is the bomb. I love your morning pep talks! I will be copying you!

Reply

The last time I went to the store I bought 10 chobani yogurt thingys (they were on sale 10 for 10).

Ironically the last pizza I had was cheese too.

Reply

Now I am craving pizza at 6am… thanks ;) haha
I will go with the lst four things I put in my cart since we did a large grocery trip Saturday- edamame beans, unsweetened applesauce, pineapple and milk.
I have no tips/tricks BUT when you get some pass them along. I used to workout a couple days a week in the morning’s too but now I just like my sleep more :)
Hubby loves homemade pizza! We just throw on different toppings all the time, his favorite is shrimp, tomato, spinach and feta.
I don’t eat tons of cheese. Yesterday morning I made breakfast sandwiches for breakfast with a poached egg, smoked Gouda cheese, turkey bacon, spinach and tomato – soo good!

Reply

Hope you’re feeling better!

The pizza looks awesome! The last cheesy item I had was pizza, too. Yum.

I’m an evening exerciser. I tried to be a morning exerciser, and I always failed. So, I went with what works for me.

Reply

I hope you feel 10x’s better today Janae!!!

My tip for getting up early is setting my alarm clock across the room, that way I have to get up.

Last things I bought were eggs, ketchup, bananas and plain yogurt;-) I am not a fan of cheese, I haven’t had pizza since I was little…but I love making pizza dough in my bread maker and making it for my family. The favorite topping right now is canandian bacon.

Reply

Thanks Becky and thanks for the tip! WHAT!??!?! send me your pizza. I am going to have to try out the bread maker to make dough…brilliant!

Reply

We love homemade pizza. I buy the mini crusts at HEB (do you have that store up there?) and it is perfect because it comes with 3 -2 for Brandon and 1 for me. We usually do sauce, cheese, turkey pepperoni and I put spinach and veggies on mine. We love doing this on Friday nights w/ a red box movie. :)

Reply

Sometimes plain cheese pizza is exactly what you need! PS have you ever had Papa Murphy’s veggie pizza? Seriously best thing ever–it is LOADED with veggies–and the good ones, too!

Last 4 things purchased at the grocery store? Salad dressing, apples, raspberries, and milk.

Reply

Love cheese!! Best pizza I had was Brie & Gouda a surprisingly delicious combo!
I stink at getting up early to work out…

I bought Almond Milk, spinach, greek yogurt and threw in fresh dark chocolate covered raisens at the last minutes! I’m already out of milk again… Dang protein shakes….

Reply

Um, I bought toilet paper, cooking spray, cheese flavored almond crackers, and Greek yogurt when I ran into the market on Sunday! Clearly I was missing some necessities, and then saw the crackers…

Reply

I always make homemade pizza, it’s so freaking delicious. Pizza stones all the way!

Hope you guys are feeling better! At least you had a fun/productive day :)

Reply

I hope you are feeling better today. I had a couple of sick days last week and just now getting over it.

I bought the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, hamburger, cheedar cheese, spicy v-8 juice and some juicy fruit gum. (we made chili last night)

I wish I had some tips for working out in the AM. It’s a big struggle for me. I barely give myself enough time to get ready for work.

I have made homemade pizza. It was ok. I don’t think my pizza stone is very seasoned because my crust wasn’t as crisp as I like. I may have to try your receipe.

Reply

aaah feel better girl! being sick is no fun:(
and um i need those am workout tips too!!!! i used to be able to get up and now my eyelids have ideas of their ownn!!!

Reply

Try Pesto pizza – it’s delicious!
1. Spread pesto on the dough instead of tomato sauce (you can buy jars of it or make it yourself, lots of recipes online of if you have a magic bullet there’s a recipe in the book that came with it that’s awesome!);
2. Add fresh mozza slices, spinach, mushroom, either fresh or sundried tomato and grilled chicken breast (if you want, or leave it vegetarian!);
3. Sprinkle on some oregano flakes;
4. Bake and enjoy!

Reply

YUM….we even have pesto sauce at home, can’t wait to try this! Thanks Jenn!

I love taco pizza but can’t get it in NYC, because it’s sacrilege or something similarly silly. http://breakfasttobed.com/2011/07/13/tricked-out-taco-pizza/ that’s the recipe. I like it!

I don’t wake up early to work out. I wake up early to make breakfasts, be bessie the milkcow, stretch with the 3 yo, and do laundry!

Nothing lately, but tonight’s salad WILL be a feta fest.

feel better, darlin. Being sick is the pits.
Oh, and tell Billy to get his foot off of the coffee table.

Reply

Ha….our table was like $10 so I allow it:) Taco pizza…that sounds incredible, thank you for the recipe! BESSIE, you are doing a great job doing what you do:) Enjoy your feta tonight!

One time I was really, really sick and I too went to Walmart for necessities (italian ice was on my list!). While waiting to check out, I started feeling really dizzy and actually passed out in Walmart. It was SO embarrassing, especially because I was alone so they insisted on calling an ambulance to make sure I was okay. Obviously I was, and I think I was just too dehydrated/weak to be out in public, but I am still mortified.

Reply

WHAT…you passed out in Walmart, that breaks my heart. You poor thing. Italian ice is definitely on the necessities list!

Reply

I hate waking up early to work out but this semester I have no choice. Please share any advice you get.
I had cheesy mashed potatoes at a NFL

I was scrolling down and thought that said Ryan Hall. I was like wow… HRG is getting popular with the Olympians!! :)

I had cheesy mashed potatoes at a NFL watch party. So good.

I was going to get up early today to workout for the first time in forever, but they canceled my Tuesday morning pump class. Then I counted the number of days in a row I have worked out, and concluded that after 5, today should definitely be a rest day. To get up early, I lay everything I need out the night before in the kitchen-so I am forced to leave the bedroom.
The last 4 things at the grocery store-portabella mushrooms, goat cheese, coffee, and kale.

Reply

They canceled your pump class….that is so rude. Good for you to take a break:) Mmmmmm goat cheese!

Reply

That pizza looks so good!! I’m afraid that when I cook homemade, I always skimp on the cheese… next time I am going to make it extra cheesy!

Last things I bought: cereal, milk, coffee and apples (aka the breakfast dash!)

Reply

That pizza looks SO good.

I may not be a running expert (like you), but I know a good pizza when I spot one! :-)

Reply

Grocery store items: milk, bread, chicken (for the slow cooker of course), Lucky Charms

Early workout tips: I’ve been doing the early morning workouts regularly since July so I guess it is just part of my routine now. I just say to myself that there are going to be days where I cannot do my workouts because I am sick, daughter is sick, hubby is sick, etc., so I need to take advantage when I can get there.

Homemade pizza: My husband and I have done french bread pizza but not regular. I think I may have to try that recipe.

Last cheesy thing: Chicken Tortilla soup from Chili’s!

I hope you are feeling better.

Reply

Lucky Charms….I knew we were meant to be best friends:) Chili’s tortilla soup is amazing, I need to go get some now! THANK you for the tips….you are so right about taking advantage of the days that you can get a workout in! Thanks Crissy!

hope you are feeling better girlfriend…i was sick twice over the christmas season and it sucked. but going back to your last post..working out always made me a feel a little less grumpier :)

last 4 things bought at the grocery store=pears, key lime pie ice cream, case of pellegrino and a sweet potato. maybe i’m a little random.

i used to be an after-work sweat session person but in the past couple of months I have switched back to morning workouts..it was rough but i like having my free time after work. i just make sure to get to bed as early as I can and even when I feel groggy when my alarm goes off I literally have to force my hand over to turn on the lamp so I get up. its rough, not gonna lie. hahaha.

i need to get a pizza stone ASAP, i was hoping for one for xmas but to no avail..i have yet to make my own homemade pizza but yours looks ridiculously delicious.

i feel like i eat cheesy things all the time, lol. i did have pizza on sunday but i also make myself turkey and brie sandwiches alot lately for lunch. i LOVE cheese!!

Reply

Twice during christmas break?!?! BOO!! Pears are so good and key lime pie ice cream sounds amazing. I am going to have to try out that sandwich, that sounds so good!

Reply

you just made me want pizza so badly. and I actually really like making homemade pizza! those Pillsbury crusts are goooood.

Reply

We made “last minute pizza” for lunch yesterday … put a flour tortilla in a non stick pan, covered with pizza toppings, and grilled until melted … thin crust-close enough to pizza, and quick.

Feel better!

Reply

Um…that sounds delicious and so fast! Thanks so much Mara!

Reply

I love, love, love pizza! I might need to get a stone…

The last 4 things I bought were snap peas, hummus, chocolate milk and bagels at TJs.

Reply

I love CHEESE. i had some cheesy veggies for lunch yesterday. yum!
and yesterday i went to the grocery store to get a few things I forgot including: eggs, coffee creamer, more tomatoes (I ate them allll) and some lotion. haha

Reply

I can tell you spent your day well if any part of it included watching The Office. Is that this season? It looks like Andy is in the boss’ chair. For the past two months I have been getting up early because both of my running partners prefer to workout in the morning and it’s interesting that you mentioned this because just last week I wrote two blog posts about getting up early, they are here: http://enevoldson.blogspot.com/2012/01/why-i-run-early.html and http://enevoldson.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-conquer-world-or-get-out-of-bed.html.

I am going to have to try your pizza recipe and use my pizza stone. I never remember to use it! And the last cheesey thing I ate was my string cheese stick that I have every day with my lunch!

Reply

So glad you asked that question! I was just in Vegas for the first time this weekend, and went to Serendipity3 (just outside Caesars Palace). In addition to a frozen hot chocolate AND a sundae (best sundae of my life, btw), my husband and I split their grilled cheese. IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL. Three pieces of bread like a club sandwich, three kinds of cheese (cheddar, swiss, brie) and definitely should have been featured in that grilled cheese slideshow you blogged about a few weeks ago.

Reply

Oh my goodness…your comment made me drool. HOLY COW. I need to get to Serendipity ASAP to try out their grilled cheese!

I think our bodies to through phases of working out early vs late. Just embrace the change and before you know it you’ll be back in the early morning phase. Homemade pizza is our weekly Friday night staple. And pizza stones rock. Using corn meal instead of flour on bottom of crust makes it better. And we even bought the $4 wooden spatula so we could preheat the stone at 475 and slide dough in. My son says it is almost as good as little ceasers, tho not quite. He keeps searching the Internet for their secret. Enjoy the Popsicles!

Reply

You are completely right. I think I will just enjoy this time now and do what my body wants me to do! Oh, the corn meal makes the pizza so good. I need to get a wooden spatula, that is brilliant. Ha…I wonder what Little Caesars puts in those pizzas;) Have a great day!

Reply

The last four items I bought were: apples, baby carrots, a Digornio pizza (a pizza theme today???) and milk. BOOOOOOOO-RING!

Dear Hubby loves to make his own pizza crust, and will usually have one once a week. I like making a whole wheat pizza crust and throwing just about anything on it from artichokes to chicken to broccoli. YUM!

Reply

Love the pizza theme. That is awesome that your husband makes a crust! YUM…artichokes would be delicious!

Reply

I love cheese! That pizza looks so amazing, and now that is all I am craving!

I bought chicken, bananas, Udi’s bread, and purple cabbage. :)

I get up super early to workout, and whenever I get off my schedule it is always hard to go back. I try to ease into it by getting up 15 or 20 minutes earlier, then 30 or 45, etc. However, sometimes I just say “I’m going to do this” and just force myself back into schedule.

Reply

I make home-made (ish) pizza’s on Panini bread, MAN are they ever tasty! Cheezy pizza is soooo good, I very rarely let he hubby order pizza anymore, and I don’t like to make big pizza’s at home cause I ALWAYS eat way to much, like 5-6 slices .. Yuck.

The last four things I got at the grocery store were Gravy Mix, Potatoes, Carrots & Bread. <– Man I'm exciting!

I don't have any morning exersize advice .. I usually always work out in the evenings after work, the few times I have worked out in the AM I LOVED it, really gears you up for the day, but I have a really hard time not hitting the snooze button nine times when I set it for 5Am to work out ..

Reply

I woke up this morning with a sore throat!!! AHhh =/ I’ve been sleeping in and working out a little while after breakfast too. I am just SO tired lately. I LOVEEE homemade pizza, the cheese is the best part!

Reply

NOOOOO I hope your sore throat doesn’t last for long.

Reply

Normally I’m against killing but this article slhgtauered my ignorance.

Completely off topic, but do you have any tips for someone who has never gone to a spin class before? I want to start going to a beginning spin class my gym offers, but I have a bad habit of always letting fear talk me out of going :)

Hope you’re feeling better today!

Reply

YES, this…I want to hear about this too Janae :)

Reply

GREAT IDEA!! I will totally do this! Expect the post ASAP!

Reply

Feel better soon!! Your pizza looked great. I’m lactose intol and celiac, so my only choice is to make my own pizza. I make a great GF crust and load the pizza w/ veggies for myself!! I make the husband a full fatty pizza per his request!
I can’t imagine not starting my day w/o a 2+ hour workout!! Then again I am teaching the classes, so I have no choice but to show. Remember how good you feel to have it over with and not have to go to the gym after school!!! I think that daily when that 3:45am alarm sounds.

Reply

That is true….teaching classes really helps motivate me to get the workout it. You are so right about the amazing feeling of just relaxing after school. 3:45 a.m….you are my hero! That is so nice you make his and hers pizzas…I would probably just let him fend for himself ha;)

Reply

I went to Costco last, so pomegranate seeds, go gurts for my kids, milk and fruit leathers :)

I go to the gym in the AM with some friends. I don’t always do the same things as they do and I sometimes come home and still do a video, but if I don’t commit to someone ELSE that I will be there, it is a 50/50 shot as to whether or not I can drag my butt out of bed.

My sister requested homemade pizza when we celebrated her brithday Sunday at my parentals house and I was in charge. I made BBQ chicken, Thai chicken, pear gorgonzola, a supreme and 2 pepperonis (for the little kids). Pizza stones are definitely the way to go. However, my family complains that I do not put enough cheese on my pizza. I do not like melted cheese, so I use just a little. If they want to complain, then they can make SIX friggin pizzas next time! lol.

Reply

We just got the fruit leathers too…amazing! That is awesome that you have friends to go there! Your pizzas sound INCREDIBLE…holy cow, I am coming over for the next bday dinner!

Reply

We love making homemade pizza too! We usually do one white pizza and one red one and I’ve been digging making the crust using Fleischmann’s Pizza Crust yeast. It’s so easy and tasty. Homemade pizza was our last meal of cheesy deliciousness. :)
I haven’t been able to get myself to work out in the morning either lately. It’s so tough in the winter time. The bed is so warm and cozy.
Feel better!

Reply

I am going to have to try out the white pizza..that sounds great! I agree about the AM workouts being killer during the winter. Thanks Jenny!

Reply

When I got to the gym this morning is was 7 degrees. The girl next to me told me that she told her husband it was too cold and she was too tired.. but her husband told her that she needed to quit whining and get her butt to the gym because she would regret it if she didn’t. That’s what I need!

Feel better soon!

Reply

7 degrees?!?! HOLY COW that is cold. That girls husband is a smart smart man!

Reply

Last four things I bought at the grocery store: Flank steak, bananas, spinach and veggie chips (pluse $150 more worth of groceries!).

I make homemade pizza all the time. In fact, I made two batches of pizza dough this weekend to keep in the freezer and made a buffalo chicken pizza Sunday night. It was soooo good! I don’t have a recipe but it has cheese, cheese and more cheese… With lots of hot sauce!

Reply

Yum…your food sounds delicious! YUM….I am going to have to try out your buffalo chicken pizza, that sounds incredible!

Reply

I think avocados, broccoli, cilantro and bananas.
That pizza does look so good! I love pizzas with generous coverage :)
I am no good at working out early. I sometimes do my yoga first thing, but only when my body is impulsed to do it. I usually work out after the working day, to shift the energy from sitting down to being awake for the evening.
I hope you feel better soon!

Reply

What were the last 4 things that you bought at the grocery store?

Remember how I used to wake up early to work out? Well, for some reason I can’t anymore…..any tips/tricks/advice that helps you to get up early to get working out? Ugh. I’ve given up on morning workouts as well, PM is where it’s at ;)

Ever made homemade pizza? Feel free to link away any recipes for us to try out in the comments, I am wanting to turn this into a weekly thing! Nope, I leave that to the professionals

What was the last cheesy, delicious thing that you ate? Do you eat cheese? Grilled cheese for dinner last night. Cheese should be it’s own food group.

Reply

I think I am going to have to agree with you on the PM workouts:) Wait…cheese isn’t it’s own food group!?!

Reply

That’s what i’m talking about. My world would be complete!

Oops. Last 4 things I bought;

2. Bread
3. Cheese
4. Diet Coke

Agreed.
Hope you’re having a great day!! xoxo

Reply

I bought something from Costco for the first time yesterday: muffins and salad dressing. I think I’m a little too excited about that, is that sad?
I’m working on waking up early too. Unusually set my alarm clock 15-30 minutes earlier each day, sometimes have to set it across the room, and eventually I get use to the early wake up call.
I hope you feel better:)

Reply

AHHH MUFFINS AND DRESSING FROM COSTCO….congrats on your first purchases from Costco, that is great news. Good call on putting it across the room, I will be trying that!

Reply

As for waking up early to work out, I sleep in my workout attire, have the coffee on timer so i can have a cup first thing, and have everything else set up for me to resist any mental barriers.

Even though studies on Echinacea have been mixed, I fully believe it works to shorten a cold so take the placebo in large doses.

And I see you watch the office. My office has been adorned with a Dwight Schrute Bobblehead doll for years, and when in distress, I say a little prayer in his honor and usually find some guidance.

Reply

Sweet deal lady, that pizza looks fantastic! I hope you feel better soon :)

Thanks!! You are the best!

HEATHER! Thank you so much for the link, the pepperoni pizza looked so good and so healthy! THANKS!

Hope you feel better soon!

I eat more cheese than I care to admit. Seriously, it’s disgusting how much cheese I eat.

We make pizza at home, but we use the crust from our local pizzeria, because they sell a bunch of it for $2 per bag. And it’s awesome. My hunny always has plain cheese on his half, and I always load up the veggies. Though lately I’ve been feeling like I need some hamburg or something on my side.

I haven’t been to the grocery store in a long time, so our fridge is pretty bare. The last things I bought at a store that were consumable were Kahlua, Bailey’s, wine and espresso flavored vodka. All of which were great with cheese.

Reply

2 bucks a bag…sign me up, that is awesome! Nothing wrong with eating a lot of cheese:)

Reply

I love homemade pizza and completely agree greasy is best for a sick person :) and Janae how are you that good looking when sick!?!?!?!

Reply

You are nice. Sometimes I feel like I need to get ready when I am sick because I feel so gross on the inside ha. Hope you are having an amazing day Ali!

Reply

I used to be a morning worker-out and then I wasn’t and for me it happened for two reasons.
#1 I like a challenge. When I first started my 5 am sweat sessions…..the mere fact that I was up so early, while others were sleeping gave me that much more of a confidence boost for the day. When the 5ams turned into the normal habit after a few years, I no longer got the same satisfaction because I missed that inital “I am up out of bed, actually doing this” buzz.
#2 The best of myself is definitely following a workout!!! So when I used to workout in the morning work got the best of Erica……..I want the people I care about most to get the best of me. Since working out after school I feel my hubby and/or friends get the best of me!
Sorry that doesn’t help with motivating you to do the morning, in fact I am arguing just the opposite.

Love pizza, and have never made homemade but always wanted to. Please, please, please continue to share any recipes you love for that. I am going to go click on your link now for the one above.

Reply

Erica, once again I think we are a lot alike. I used to get that buzz too but then it left. I also don’t feeling so rushed for work or too tired to fulfill all of my responsibilities! I love what you said about your hubby and friends needing to get the best of you! You are so right. I LOVE your comments!

I have a thing for feta cheese and laughing cow cheese right now. I ate some eggs on an english muffin w/ feta and laughing cow last night – so good!

Things I got from the store – eggs, bananas, tofu, stir fry veggies.

Since I don’t go in to work til 8:30/9 am it gives me lots of time to get up early and knock out a run. For me getting it in early really sets the tone for the day and I don’t have to worry about it later. I like to go watch the sun rise and clear my mind.

Oh and totally do the same thing when I’m sick too – load up on the saltines and chicken noodle soup! And oj :)

Enjoy your day and REST.

Reply

Feta cheese is the bomb.com! That is awesome that you get to go into work a little later. Watching the sunrise starts out the day perfectly. PS what flavor of laughing cow do you get?

Reply

I like the light swiss flavor and sometimes when I want a little kick I get the queso fresco one…it tastes really good on tacos & mex dishes!

Reply

Cheese makes everything taste better, especially melty cheese. Last night I was seriously craving some nachos, so I piled them with cheese and they were fantastic!

Have you ever tried Chalula sauce? I used to be a Tapatio girl until I tried Chalula and I’m a convert. So good!

Reply

Nachos are the BEST!! I haven’t tried Chalula….uh oh….this could be trouble now that we have a huge thing of Tapatio.

Reply

I love cheese. I’m pretty sure that you can put cheese an anything. And I love feta cheese. I usually use the flatout flatbreads to make pizzas.

Reply

I hope you are feeling better today friend. Being sick is no fun at all!!

That pizza looks delicious. Yum!

Reply

I make a pizza with BBQ sauce as the base and then shredded (cooked) chicken, cheese, and sometimes red onions and pineapples…not original, but its super easy and fast!

Remember that “No excuses” post you did about getting up early…and think about how good you’ll feel all day, and then all the free time after work! Hope you feel better soon!

Pizza stones are awesome. We make whole wheat crust dough in our bread maker, just following the recipe that came with the machine. Super delicious! Our kids love plain cheese, so we just make them eat a salad with it.

I need to try out the bread maker for pizza dough..brilliant! Ha…your kids are smart:)

I love making homemade pizza!! I get lazy with making the crusts though. The last cheesy thing I had was baked mac ‘n’ cheese last night. Vegetables are sooo not appealing when you’re sick!

Okay, I am going to have to copy you and make baked mac ‘n’ cheese tonight…that sounds amazing!

Last 4 things I bought were soy milk, OJ, cliff bars, and bananas!

My fav pizza recipe from my own blog, if you like spicy Buffalo Chicken Pizza:

I NEED a pizza stone!

OH MY GOODNESS….your recipe looks amazing. I love Buffalo Chicken and I am going to have to try out your recipe, thank you so much!

I went to Trader Joe’s last night and bought my FAVORITE cereal, Kashi Autumn Harvest Wheat (like frosted mini wheats without the frosting) — so delicious (and I add sugar – sadly). I also bought soup, tofu edamame nuggets and decaf coffee for my evening cravings. :)

We are already stocked up on produce but when I go shopping and only buy packaged goods I always feel self conscious. I feel like saying “I do eat vegetables people, I promise! I’m just out of all this packaged stuff! ” I know I’m weird.

Evening workouts are basically all I do. I have more energy and I look forward to it all day. I wish I worked out in the AM more but I can’t find the motivation when I am snuggled under my warm blanket at 6am.

Your cereal sounds delicious and adding sugar is the best:) I am not finding the early morning motivation either!

Last 4 things at store: turkey burgers, turkey, string cheese, costco sized spring and romaine mix!

I set multiple alarms with fun music… It wakes me up and sometimes my roommate in the next room over too ;)

I like to make a ‘margherita’ pizza: pita bread, tomato sauce, green pepper, red onion and MOUNTAINS of cheese! so healthy….

I love cheese being a WI gal and all but I think I’m lactose intolerant because I always feel like garbage after!

Feel better soon! I don’t have any tips on getting up early. I am horrible at it and am fortunate that I work from home with a flexible schedule that allows me to workout whenever.
Grocery store: I bought apples, pudding, enchilada sauce and soup.
I don’t eat much cheese, but like pizza. No good recipes. We just bought ours from Costco.

I made homemade pizza this past weekend and ate it during the Olympic marathon trials broadcast. I made the crust using a recipe from Flieshmans (sp? anyhow they make yeast so it follows they have pizza crust recipes). I threw on organic Mozzarella cheese and some veggies and it was amazing. :) I heart pizza

I can’t really eat much cheese any more :-( This is tragic

Last 4 things from the grocery store? It was more like 40 but it included milk for Dan, face wash, bread for Dan, and grinding my own nut butters

I’m still searching for a good gluten free crust, but we used to have pizza every Friday at home.

I have to workout in the mornings on most days if i’m going to make it happen. Plus if I workout in the morning, I miss ALL morning traffic, because I drive into Austin and workout at the gym near my office.

Hope you are feeling better…:) The pizza looks superb!

You know, I go through phases like that, where I have no trouble getting up in the morning and hitting my workout first thing, and then there are those days where I just can’t drag myself out of bed! When I get like that, I just go with it and get my workouts in at night or in the afternoon. I am so close to my work I have even spent my lunch breaks working out. My schedule also gives me early days in which I get to leave work at noon! :)

The last four things?? Milk, provolone cheese, turkey breast (sandwiches), and…..I guess there were only 3 things. :) I do need some more almond butter.

Last 4 things were bananas, coconut juice, avocados, and siracha.

I am only motivated in the morning to work out. I have a new motto – start the day with determination, end with satisfaction. I also sleep in my workout clothes sometimes.

We love making homemade pizza, but we make it on the bbq grill. Assemble the crust inside, all the toppings (we love tomatoes, garlic, veggies, and buffalo mozza) and throw on the grill for 9-10 minutes. It gets the crust so crispy and a nice char!

Last cheesy thing was pizza too, but it was takeout.

Mmmmmmm…that pizza looks delish! So cheesy!

For me, if I’m going to get up early to workout, I HAVE to go to bed early. Sleep always wins — if I’m not rested enough, it’s an afternoon workout day :)

I always joke that my favorite food is melted cheese! :) My second favorite food is pizza!

I tried making it at home before and the crust always turns out super soggy….so maybe I need to get myself a pizza stone. Thanks for the tip!

Feel better girlie. Being sick sucks. I hate it.
The pizza looks yummy – we have a place here that sells a pizza (this crust/wood oven) with truffle oil, white cheese mushrooms and arugla on top…its divine.

I have to wake up early on long run days due to the sun rising here at 6am….my trick is to sleep in my running shirt…seriously. That way when the alarm goes off I am ready to go.

Oh no! I hope you get better! I hate being sick :(
The last cheesy thing I had was pizza and it was DELICIOUS!
I’ve been pretty bad at waking up early to workout too. It think it’s the weather – super cold = bed time in the morning.

We make homemade pizza every week. Here’s the crust recipe:

My husband worked at a pizza place in high school so he is the pizza king when it comes to making it taste just right.

I’m totally into a.m. workouts. If I don’t do it then, it won’t get done. My motivation? It’s more of habit than anything.

last 4: bananas (i have to buy a bundle like every 2 days, im obsessed with bananas! ha) peanut butter, oatmeal and eggs… my life lines.

i love love love goat cheese! completely obsessed right now.

early AM workouts happen for me most days of the week- my alarm is set between 4:45 (days im going to strength train & run) and 5:45 when i am just running. i do spin class at night but its just because its so fun- i dont consider it my “serious” workout. i cant run at night cause i have to run on an empty stomach or i get horribly sick!

what gets me out of bed is how much i love my coffee with vanilla soy milk :) its not easy most mornings still, but i just try to shut my mind up and go- you are SO lucky to have a treadmill at home cause i have a whole subway train ride to think about how much id rather be sleeping!! :)

Hope you are feeling better!! now, I am officially craving pizza :/ I like the easy, peasy naan pizza from RW Athlete’s Plate: http://www.blondeponytail.com/2010/11/na-na-na-naan.html

Last 4 items at the grocery store: dark choc chips, almond milk, frzn chkn breasts and cottage cheese! random!

Omgosh the last 4 things were candy! Not even lying! It was BOGO free so I got two Cookies & Creme bars and 2 Kit-Kats!

I just got over the flu that ended me up in the hospital for the weekend, it was horrible. They couldnt figure out a way of making me stop getting sick, so they had to stop me from eating and get nutrition to me intravenously, so I am totally into food right now. When I got out of the hospital, I went to the grocery store to buy frozen pizza, cereal (crispix, cheerios, lucky charms, and reese’s puffs), and ice cream!

I also LOVE cheese and I always add extra cheese to frozen pizzas! :D

I hope you feel better soon! And got more fudgcicles haha

Reason to work out in the morning: how fun it is to be an awake, happy teacher in the morning. I busted my butt this morning and expected to be totally burned out, but I was excited teacher pretty much all day!

Homemade pizza is awesome…might be better than the takeout kind!

lamb, pirate booty, blood oranges, and a pumelo. and I really wish I could tell you how to wake up early, but I get up at 5:12 for work Monday-Friday and it pretty much makes me want to die (not dramatic at all over here.

Reply

I like how you get up at 5:12 am. I get up at 4:42 as I have to be at work by 5:45am, but I could not get up at 4:40 am or any earlier! :D
