Why you ask?

It is coming to the end of the semester at school, which means that in my (and my best teacher friends) classroom, you must bring a treat in to turn anything in past the last day that work is accepted.

I have had one student remember my white chocolate obsession and that chocolate dipped oreo is now on my top 10 favorite snacks.  Yes, I can be bribed by white chocolate.  Okay, really that whole thing is kind of a joke and I am not bribed by candy to give them a better grade but it does help my mood and be a little more generous when I am grading their assignment with a candy bar in my hand.

To continue on with the healthy theme of my day (at least I had broccoli at lunch and an egg sandwich for bfast) Billy and I had a romantic date.

We had to go get a safety and emisions inspection for our registration.  They only had one cookie left so I told Billy I would buy him cookies later and ate it myself.  You thought I was going to say we split it….do you even know me?

Uggs will always be cool.  Warm, slipper like and comfortable= winter uniform.  Although, don’t try doing your long runs in them….maybe that is why I had plantar fasciitis for a few months.

Round three of health came from a little place called Dominoes.  Yesterday EVERYTHING was 50% off, don’t mind if I do.

I don’t know why but I always choose the pieces of pizza with the big bubbles, I really like them.

In other news, did you hear about the water issue at RNR Vegas this last weekend?  Beth @ Shutupandrun wrote about an article talking about a bunch of runners getting super sick during and after the race due to what they believe to be ‘bad’ water.

I didn’t mention it on the blog because I thought for sure I would get someone telling me, ‘of course you were sick as a dog after the race because you ate 12 pancakes with 5 cups of hershey’s chocolate sauce and sprinkled with oreo’s just a few hours before the race’ comment  but my stomach was cramping during the race and so badly after the race that I couldn’t sleep and Billy had to pull over the car a few times for ‘you know what.’  Jess and I have been texting each other all week wondering why our stomach’s were so off but I just assumed it was from the lack of sleep and the fact I have been eating junk all week.  Let’s be honest, that is probably a big factor but the water from the fire hydrant may have played a little part in my feeling like death!

Favorite seasonal candy = candy cane tootsie pops!

Reply

We are a lot alike. I didn’t know that there were candy cane tootsie pops, I must have them soon!

Reply

Peppermint bark is a problem in our house during the holidays. White chocolate = good. Candy canes = good. Put them together = instant addiction.

Reply

Thanks Eric for reminding me of the best dessert in the world. Should I make them tonight?

Reply

I feel ashamed of myself–> white choc and peanut butter is a thing??? Why did I not know this till now and more importantly, how can I get my hands on some ASAP!

Reply

Chocolate dipped ANYTHING is good….they have a new Oreo out..it’s like a peanut butter one dipped in chocolate.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Haven’t tried it yet, but it’s on my to-do list.

Reply

I always choose the pieces of pizza with the crispiest looking crust! My sister always makes the best Christmas fudge and I cannot wait for her to get here so I can get my fix! Have a great day.

Reply

I just blogged about the water issue!! I was wondering if you had any issues! http://bit.ly/uGkXUE

OH MY GOODNESS!! Loved your post and thanks for linking the Facebook page, I didn’t even think to check that out. I definitely feel less alone! I also read your review of the Hot Chocolate race…boooooo! That is lame sauce!

Reply

Wow that’s crazy! I got food poison when I was 7 at Chikfila. I forcefully had their little chicken nuggets, which at the time I never ate much meat because I was and still am a texture girl through and through (I didn’t even like peanut butter!), and next thing I knew I was um…well you know. I never again ate at Chikfila.
Sadly I haven’t had any seasonal candy yet, I’m hoping to make some fudge soon, but I have had pumpkin soy milk in my coffee.

Reply

Noooooooo!!! Food poisoning from Chick-Fil-A?

Reply

This is the second chick-fil-a food poisoning story….NOOOO!! I am scared now. Mmmmm pumpkin soy milk. Have some fudge ASAP!

Reply

I pick the pizza slices with bubbles too! Love them!

Reply

Aren’t they the best!?!?!

Reply

ahhhh I LOVE Reese’s Christmas Trees! My mom always put them in my stocking when I lived at home. I told my husband he better put them in my stocking now or else there’d be big trouble!

Reply

In college, I had some bad Taco Bell chalupas at the beginning of a 2 hour drive back to school. Needless to say, there were several emergency stops on the side of the highway (and isn’t that just an awesome experience??) and like you, I have not eaten there since!

No Christmas candy yet, but I’ve been staring longingly at the snowmen Peeps every time I walk past them in the store… It’s only a matter of time before I give in! :)

Reply

Chalupas…oh my goodness….that sounds awful, you poor thing. I hope you get some Peeps today!! I like peeps a lot too, it seems like not a lot of people do!

Reply

I love the pizza bubbles! I’ve been eating candy canes lately :)

Hi Janae!
A friend in my running group ran it but had to drop out at mile 25 because he was so sick! He is a 2:39 marathon runner, and this has never happened to him before. He read the articles as well and it seems to make sense now he says! I would be so angry.

Reply

Hey Caitlin!! Oh my goodness, your poor friend, that breaks my heart. Mile TWENTY FIVE…that would have crushed me!

Reply

Yikes! That is really scary if the water was bad and was what made you so sick! I honestly think that is what happened to you since eating a lot of sugar is not out of the norm for you (reason #1935735 why you are one of my favorite people ever that i’ve never met!! :-D) and shouldnt have made you THAT ill…I’ve had food poisoning once…from the chili at Wendy’s. I had it for a late lunch, went to the gym right after work and 20 minutes into my workout I felt like death! The sad part is that I kept trying to “push through it” for another half hour until I gave up, ran out to my car and threw up in a bag right in front of the big window of guys lifting weights. Almost was as bad as the fact that i kept throwing up for the next 12 hours…

And that is my fabulous food poisoning story LOL

Reply

You are so right…my stomach is used to the overload of sugar!! NOOOOO THE CHILI AT WENDY’S….I love that stuff (not anymore). Oh my goodness, you poor thing, that story breaks my heart. WIll you ever eat it again?

Reply

Haha! My love for Wendy’s chili is SO strong that I only fasted from it for a month and then I was back and still love it. I think my relationship with Wendy’s chili is meant to be because I NEVER can eat a food again that I’ve gotten sick from/sick after eating (no more Berry Kix or dirt cups…don’t ask…) but I haven’t been too fazed…

Reply

I wasn’t there, but I’ve literally never read so many race reports that involved people getting so violently sick! There must have been something with the water cause that is nuts!! Kinda ridiculous when you pay so much for a race :(

I’m traumatized that you don’t eat Papa John’s–that’s my favvvvvorite!!

I made some Peppermint Bark the other day and now I have 2 lbs. of chocolatey goodness in my fridge. It’s delicious…and a problem!

Reply

I wish people tried to bribe me with candy. That would be awesome. I wouldn’t change my mind, but I’d get candy!

That is so crazy about the vegas water! It makes me really glad that I usually carry water with me for longer races.

Mike knows that if there are bubbles in our pizza, those slices are mine!

Reply

Wow, this race just gets worse and worse with every review I read! Kind of glad I didn’t sign up for an RnR race this fall (I thought about it many times!) I’ve never had food poisoning thankfully. I DESPISE throwing up so I think I’d about die if I had it.

Reply

I always pick the bubble pizza pieces! I like to pick the bubble off and eat it first and then the slice of pizza haha. MMMMMmmmm cheese….

I can’t believe everything I am hearing after the LV race!! Sounds pretty fishy to me that so many runners were that violently ill after the race. Some people were sick for days. Sorry to hear you were sick too!! Doesn’t make for a nice memory of a good race!

Reply

That is scary to hear! I have had food poisoning once from fruit salad believe it or not! I think the spoon that I used to scoop it out was contaminated somehow. Yuck.
Lindor mint chocolate truffles :) Soo yummy…

Reply

Yes, anything covered in white chocolate is 10000 times better than just plain!

And UGGs are classic, they are here to stay. I used to think they were a trend back in 2004 or whenever they came out, but I really think they are LEGIT!

I also heard about that water issue…..makes me SO UPSET and angry, I can’t get over it. Water from fire hoses, YUCK!!!

Reply

I’m considering anything mint chocolate chip holiday [aka mint chocolate chip ice cream with a chocolate VitaTop- YUM]! I’ve been craving some peppermint bark so I think I should go raid my momma’s pantry and steal her tin of it from William Sonoma [te-hehe]…

P.S. My middle school students have yet to learn the concept of bribery I think… I should teach them :P

Reply

Today’s lesson should be all about bribery:) Mint chocolate is the best thing invented. I have never tried a vita top…what is the best flavor. Steal the peppermint bark:)

Reply

Triple chocolate is pretty tasty :) So is the banana chocolate chip!

Reply

That date tops all! Food poisoning is the worst. I had it once in high school after eating some crap from a fast-food chain. Blech!

Reply

Mmm LOVE white chocolate Oreos!! They are selling them again too (the Oreo brand kind)! :)

Reply

Wait……they sell them!?!?! I didn’t know about this. I am going straight after work to get some!

Reply

THANKS LISA!! I will be getting those today, you are the best!

Reply

I was stunned and sad to read about everything that happened at RnR Vegas. It sounds like it was more of an accomplishment to survive the race than to run 13.1 or 26.2 miles. I’m glad you lived!

Mmmm, I can get some Reese’s PB trees in me like nobody’s business. Those are definitely my fav.

Reply

I mentioned the water issue too. I ALSO saw that the volunteers had their hands in the water with no gloves. It’s just completely unsanitary. My stomach is just now getting back to normal. :( The lady, Charlene, from the article is my friend. We started the race together but she was sick and no one would help her!

Even if the water was potable, the hoses, garbage can, etc may not have been clean. Too many people were sick.

And we must be twinners because I’ve gotten food poisoning from Papa Johns too (twice!!!) and I refuse to ever ever eat there again.

Reply

BRANDI!!! You saw them stick there hands in the cup….my bfast just about came back up. That is absolutely awful!! This is out of control. I loved meeting you and think you are literally the most gorgeous girl alive!

Reply

It sounds like everyone had a ton of fun at Las Vegas RNR but a lot of not so good stuff happened throughout that race.. Definitely makes me think twice about signing up for any future RNR race.

I love pineapple pizza! It’s my weakness

Christmas candies? Do Jelly Belly’s count? I eat those year round but lately they have been my sugar of choice

Reply

Me too….Jelly Belly’s definitely count:) Why is pineapple so delicious on pretty much everything!

Reply

I read a pretty terrible review of the RnR Vegas race just yesterday and that blogger said she was pretty sick after too. I just can’t believe they used fire hydrant water for you guys. I’m glad ya’ll survived though :)

I got food poisoning the day before Thanksgiving this year! It was awful and I’m positive I picked it up from a salad I got at Chik Fil A. Ugh!

My absolute favorite Christmas treats are grandma’s fudge and Terry’s Chocolate Oranges are FTW!

Reply

Isn’t that crazy!?! The DAY before Thanksgiving…that breaks my heart! A SALAD!?!?! Dang that is lame. Fudge is delicious!

Reply

I’m very disappointed that dark chocolate peanut M&M’s do not come in holiday colors!!!! M&M’s really needs to get on that.

Ok, so I’ve never commented here before, but I totally gravitate towards the big bubble pizza slices too!

My boyfriend thinks I’m super weird and the only one. Well, at least I’m not alone!

Reply

HEY CATHERINE…thanks for commenting. Why don’t they make the whole pizza one big bubble, it would be so much more fun. Tell your bf that you are not alone.

You should sue those water hydrant people! :-) J/K

I’ve never had food poisoning, but I will probably get it today since I said that. And I would have NEVER shared my cookie, either.

I’ve never had food poisoning and I’m so thankful I wasn’t there at Vegas.. And now I have the song, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” in my head..

*gasp* how did i not know they made WHITE REESES PB TREES?! you just made my month girl.

i dont think ive ever had full fledged food poisoning, but i’ve def gotten sick off of something i’ve ate…no bueno.

i bought kev a sleeve of reeses PB trees as part of his anniversary gift last weekend..and i’ve been stealing them slowly. he’ll never notice right? :)

ahhh I’ve had food poisoning from McDonald’s twice- once from a hamburger and once from a salad (?!) so needless to say that was the end of my fast food days! Thankfully.

i’m not a big candy/sweet person (please dont love me less!)but those white choc oreos i neeeed to try cause i do like white choc! and the reece’s PB trees/eggs/pumpkins ALWAYS taste better than normal reece cups!

MCDONALD’s….yeah, I could never eat there again after that.

Don’t worry Jen, I still love you very much even though you don’t love candy…just send me any candy you get:)

thank you! I’m a sucker for those doughy bubbles. every time.

That’s crazy a bunch of runners got sick! That’s no coincidence, sounds like bad water for sure!
oh and I love me some uggs too! all forms:)

Reply

Maybe my stomach issues weren’t the pad thai? I really didn’t eat that much and I had them make it with zero spice. I dunno. The whole thing makes me sad. What a poorly managed race!
On a happier note I just read a recipe for chocolate covered mini peanut butter ritz sandwiches. I’m a sucker for salty-sweet combos. So this made it to the top of my holiday baking list!

Reply

Girl….I don’t think it was!! Um, those little sandwiches sound amazing…you might have to send me that recipe:)

Reply

Red and green M&M’s and waitingggg to see what kind of candy will be in my stocking..I love the cadbury mini eggs around Easter and now they have them for Christmas! Have you seen the Skittles Holiday Mix yet?

Uggs never get old.

Those cadbury eggs are so so good….they have them for Christmas?!?! Skittles holiday mix?!?! Brittany, you just made my day!

I’m about to embark on my annual bake-a-thon next weekend. I will be making cake pops, oreo truffles, peppermint bark, chocolate covered pretzels, cookies, coffee cake and peanut butter balls. I will also attempt to make homemade mounds bars.

Reply

Are you kidding me!! What day is the bake-a-thon…I need to buy my plain tickets:)

Reply

We start next Saturday the 17th, the more the merrier. I will need someone to remind me not to eat it all;)

My favorite Chirstmas candy is Ghirardelli squares Peppermint Bark! I also stock up on Reese’s Bells.

Reply

I had one of those on Saturday and I died with happiness. They are incredible. Time to go buy some Reese’s Bells!

Reply

I am very tempted by the squares. Good to hear they are yummy. Or maybe not so good – at least for my waist.

Reply

I love those white chocolate covered oreos! They only come out around Christmas which is so sad.

Reply

ummmmmm what!?!?!?! i had no idea about the mass stomach issues!?! but i cramped so badly at mile 14…i have never cramped that badly ever in ANY race of ANY distance. i just kept going and eventually worked through it…but it HURT. and was not just a side stitch…full on stomach issues. Then…tuesday night i sat my alarm to get up and go to the gym but was up for 2 straight hours feeling like someone had kicked me in the stomach?? weird. i didnt even think to attribute this all back to the race…but maybe it was???

crazy. i love all that yummy food up there. holiday reese’s trees are my fave!

Reply

Vegas has crap water to begin with and then NOT serving FILTERED water during a MARATHON is a gigantic mistake, also the awful traffic y’all had at the aid stations is ridiculous. They simply allowed too many runners to run and didn’t provide for their safety and health.

Reply

The way I choose my pizza slice – the slices with cheese that is crispy around the edges of the crust!

Reply

I heard about the water issue and my jaw dropped! That’s really scary. Luckily, I’ve never had food poisoning. Knock on wood!

Reply

I love that you didn’t share that cookie /w billy….good girl! :D

it must be an exciting time of year double time when you’re a teacher :) YAY for breaks! and BONUS that your students give you chocolate dipped oreos….totally stealing this idea b/c it seems super easy and super delish! I have to go out tomorrow after work and buy ALL the ingredients for my crazy Christmas cookie list.

My mother warned me never to start baking b/c people would come to expect it….she was right :P

Reply

I had huge stomach issues when I had my night time half marathon in May. Jason had to pull over the car, too.

Reply

White chocolate anything is my favorite. YUMMmmm

Reply

omg a white chocolate dipped oreo?!? I need to get a bag of meltable white chocolate and immediately fix all of the naked oreos in my pantry. Oh, and I totally always choose the pizza slices with the bubbles too!!! :-D

As for food poisoning, it’s only happened to me once. Last year, before my sorority formal, me and a bunch of my sisters and all our dates went to a mexican restaurant. We were all fine the next day (sunday morning) but by sunday evening we were all puking. Then we found out another sorority had gone to that same restaurant that night and all those girls had gotten sick as well! Needless to say we never went back haha. I still honestly feel a little queasy thinking about mexican food, which is sad….

Reply

I might need motivation to get through the work day…….I am on prep, sitting in the sun, drinking hot chocolate, and I don’t want it to end.

No food poisioning here. Thank goodness!!!! I think tummy troubles cause me more mental angish then almost anything. I am not even sure why they make my brain spin so, but it is a big reason I became so quirky about when, when, why, and how I eat.

That pizza looks delicious. Dominos really? Thank you for making my dinner decisions for me. :)

Reply

I have the same mental anguish over it. I think I stress too much over it sometimes.

Reply

Ha! We had been planning for over a week and a half to stay up late last night/watch movies/eat pizza and candy to celebrate the end of the semester and what dya know but dominoes happened to be 50% off when we went to order! I’m glad you got in on the deal too!

Reply

I know I didn’t get a chance to meet you in Vegas but can we be internet BFFs. I love the pizza piece with the bubble on it and pineapples are my favorite topping on pizza. I can rarely have it because no one else likes it.

I ran the full and didn’t get sick and I drank the water but I honestly didn’t get to drink enough water at all. I thought I was going to be really dehrdrated afterwards. I couldn’t get to the water because it was crowded or some stops ran out of water and when I did get water I got hit and spilled more than I drank. That might have saved me from getting sick.
Sorry to hear you got sick, still hope you had a good weekend

Reply

OH NO!! I’m so sorry that you got sick :( That’s the worst. I think that we need to start a movement that makes uggs acceptable for the workplace.

I’ve had it but from a wedding. It was horrible.

I haven’t had anything really seasonal except coffee flavorings. Amazing.

Reply

I read about the RNR debacle too and it seems like many of their races have issues! I hope they pay attention to runner’s comments and do something about it or I’m sure many people will not sign up again.

Reply

I didn’t get sick in LV, but I had packed my own water bottle because I hate stopping at the water stations. I’m sorry your tummy was off!

BTW – Did you notice that the race medal glows in the dark? I just noticed yesterday. Pretty cool!

Reply

I ran with my own bottle on Sunday so I was spared, but my friend had the WORST stomach cramps! It was her very first half marathon so I just thought she didn’t eat right before the race but now I know…it was the water!!!!! oh NO, they did NOT giver runners–some of the healthiest people–tainted water

Reply

Bad water?! That’s quite possibly the WORST thing that could happen at a race considering everyone needs it. Oy vey.

I got food poisoning from a deli when I was younger. BLTs never tasted the same.

I love the candy cane tootsie pops and the special little “limited edition” items, like the dark chocolate peppermint pretzel snacks and that kettlecorn I told ya about. Reeses white “chocolate” PB trees are one of the only things I’ll eat with white chocolate. I think it’s a good combo. For some reason, I always eat the rim of the tree first. The front and back panels, and then let the peanut butter melt on my tongue. Haha. I’m so weird.

Reply

Not much seasonal candy BUT I discovered So Delicious Mint Chocolate Coconut Milk – holy Heavens that stuff is delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe I didn’t know about the Dominos deal! I actually love their new ‘healthier’ pizza selections and the thin crust.. but then I eat almost the whole thin pie myself :) it’s okay bc it’s thin, right?? I think I just like the toppings ratio on thin crust.. so many toppingS!

Reply

Yikes, bad water!?

I’ve gotten food poisoning a couple of times, and i refuse to go back to either place that caused it!

Okay, I am right there with you on the awesome healthy meal choices. I really should go for a long run (like, right now) to work off yesterday’s beer, grilled cheese, mozzarella sticks with Ranch Dressing, fries, egg nog, rum… ugh.

Reply

Janae, I was extremely sick after RNR. Doubled over with stomach pain. TMI but it was coming out both ends. EWWWWWW. I refilled my handheld twice at water stations so when it was all said and done I probably had close to 20 ounces of race water. I have never been ill after a race so I don’t know what else to associate it with? I didn’t eat a lot during the day or I would blame it on food and night racing.

Reply

Myself and one of my friends ran Vegas. We were super careful about what we ate the day of the race. And we drank the water they had and neither of us had any stomach issues at all. Since they still seem to be claiming that the water was fine, I’m kind of wondering if it was a combination of lots of issues that made people ill? (i.e. change of normal racing time resulting in change of pre-race rituals, late nights, not home cooked foods, cold temps, and perhaps on top of all that the sub par water?) I dunno. I guess I’m grateful that neither of us had issues but feel so bad for all of you that did!

Reply

This post is why I lOVE your blog. It’s so refreshing to see a kick butt runner who still loves herself some white chocolate and pizza! You are the real deal girl ; )

Reply

So interesting about Vegas RnR. My friend Heather got deathly ill after the race. She was so sick she couldn’t sleep at all. I did not get sick but I did have to pour my own water for Julia and I at the last 5-6 water stations. Seriously so rediculous.

I also heard that a lot of people got injured (trampled on) because of the crazy congestion. I wish I had a video tape of what me and Julia had to deal with. It was dangerous and insane!

Reply

Reeses’s always has the best holiday treats: eggs, trees, pumpkins, they really should make an American flag one and a turkey shaped one.
Crazy about the water situation at Vegas. I’m always worried that the Gatorade they mixed will be too weak but never worried about the safety of the water!

Reply

I just read that article about the water at the race and it sounds absolutely awful. I’m so sorry you had such a terrifying experience, but I’m glad no one is permanently sick!
That hot chocolate looks absolutely delicious and about 5 blogs I’ve read today have featured some image of hot chocolate. I’m taking it as a sign..

Best seasonal treats – peppermint white mochas from Starbucks and ALL Christmas cookies! And UGGs are definitely a winter uniform essential!

I just read that article and ugh, scary! What were they thinking? Glad you’re OK! Also I too have been wearing my Uggs nonstop when I’m at home/running errands, and I love them and will never get rid of them.

Reeses PB Trees are my 2nd favorite Christmas candy… but what takes the cake are MUDDY BUDDIES!! http://www.chex.com/recipes/RecipeView.aspx?RecipeId=45860&CategoryId=447

They will change your life.

I’ve gotten food poisoning twice – once from when I ate cookie dough during the Salmonella outbreak of 2010 (stupid me thought organic = not bad to eat in raw cookie dough, woops), and then once last year from my beloved Cobb Salad at a place in SF. It was awful, and I’m STILL not ready to go back to Cobbs!

Reply

I got sick too, but I’m guessing it wasn’t the water because I only stayed sick for a little over an hour after the race… That or I was just lucky & got all the nasty water out of my system before it caused even more problems!

Reply

I really think it was the water. i didn’t want to make excuses either…cause i have gotten sick in the past, but Spencer had maybe a few drops of water and felt fine. Me, I started drinking at mile 6/7 and immediately after the race, I was done for!

Boots = pure coziness. though I despise the cold weather, having an excuse to dress in comfy clothing and drink hot chocolate is nice!

Reply

I love the Hershey’s Mint Kisses for Christmas. So good. My husband bought the Reese’s Trees for prizes for people who answer questions in his presentation today! :)

Reply

Candy cane tootsie pops are the best seasonal candy ever.

I have been lucky so far (knock on wood), but I have a friend who went into kidney failure and was hospitalized for a couple days thanks to some chicken-topped pizza. I avoid any chicken on pizza. It’s unnatural anyway.

Disappointed to hear about the water issues. I will bring my own from now on I think! Especially if I don’t see them pouring out of jugs. Yikes.

Any reese’s in the shape of something (pumpkins, trees, easter eggs) are the best!

Reply

Oh my goodness…that chicken story scared me to death. YES, bring your own, that is what I will be doing too!

Reply

I ran the half and felt so nauseous and dizzy that when I got back to the hotel, I barely made it through stretching and a shower then just laid down the rest of the night. I did drink the water/Cytomax, but luckily not as much as I normally do. That probably is what saved me from being worse off! I saw a girl on the tram back to the hotel who was shaking badly too. She had thought the Cytomax didn’t agree w/ her.

Reply

Elisha, I am so so sorry that you were so sick after the race. It was the worse. I couldn’t believe how awful I felt. Poor girl on the tram!

Reply

I’m weird (duh); I like the mint M&Ms for Christmas. That’s not the weird part. I like them – not love them. But the instant I see them I MUST BUY MULTIPLE BAGS. So now I have two 12 ounce bags of them. They will last forever in my house.

I got food poisoning from Burger King. It took many years before I went back. I don’t eat there by choice, but I will eat there.

Reply

My friends & co-workers were waiting for our last runner inside of the gear check expo hall and I have never seen that many people vomiting after a race before! For some reason, I thought to myself, “hey, Vegas life before a race… well it happens.” I didn’t realize how widespread the illnesses were – I planned for and hit three water stations along the 1/2 route, but accidentally took in one Cytomax (I tossed it after one small gulp since I’ve never trained with it before). I never felt ill afterwards… although I think the alcohol consumption afterwards killed every bacteria and virus in my body. Including a lot of brain cells.

I read this wasn’t the first time that a fire hydrant has been used as a source at an aid station. My co-worker, who used to work for the city Fire dept, said the quality of the water source depends on if they got water from a fire hydrant vs. a flush hydrant – something to do about reclaimed water as a water source? Yikes…

Reply

Ha…you are hilarious…I am sure you still have some brain cells left. Crazy, I didn’t see anyone vomit because we left pretty quick so I just assumed it was me. All that hydrant talk made me feel sick again. Thanks for the info!

Reply

PS….SO SO GLAD you didn’t get sick!

Reply

Food poisoning….ugh. I got it last weekend at Hires. Not a pretty sight. And this was after eating an armful of popcorn at a movie first. Not going back there for a long, long time!!

I have a real problem come the holidays, I love everything and eat everything, not a good combo. I made some yummy homemade candies (think Snickers) yesterday and I have to give them away asap, I couldn’t stop eating them. That recipe is going to be a Christmas favorite forever.

Reply

I don’t know if they have Braum’s in Utah, but if they do, you should check out their peppermint ice cream. I don’t eat dairy anymore, but when I did that stuff was always on my holiday treats list. They only sell it during this time of year.

OH MY GOSH. I CANNOT believe that about the water!! (sorry this is late- just doing my catching up :) ) But seriously, that is SCARY!! I just read the article- and I feel so bad for all of you.
I just told Craig and he was shocked too. I was REALLY bummed about missing this race, but after reading that I can honestly say I’m glad I didn’t go. I’m just so glad that you are feeling better & nothing worse happened- you poor thing :(

Where did you find those white chocolate Reese’s trees!?!? I have been looking everywhere for them since the start of the season. I can’t find them anywhere! They are my absolute favorite Christmas candy. Send some my way, will ya? :) :)

I LOVE white chocolate. And i fully believe that any seasonal shaped item (tree, pumpkin, heart reeses, santa shaped snickers) taste way better then the normal shaped version.
