Thanksgiving Eve

November 23, 2011

I promise charlie really did enjoy our walk together this morning and he isn’t trying to escape my grip, there was a dog behind billy that he was glaring at.

I know I said I was going to sleep in this morning but I was just too excited about the day to stay in bed and went for my run and then got to work……it is a must that you try every thing that you make just to make sure it tastes good.  Don’t mind the mashed potatoes on my fingers.

Billy’s cousin is in the middle (just found out that she is just as obsessed with YLand as I am and we are going together today) and my SIL.  You know your mashed potatoes are good if there are equal parts potatoes, cream cheese and butter.  I am not even kidding.  We lost track of how many sticks of butter we have gone through today.  I was put in charge of the sweet potatoes which was probably a bad idea because I ‘accidently’ quadrupled the marshmallows for our potatoes.

The boys were busy getting whip cream everywhere and

attacking everyone with nerf guns….even grandpa.

Why can’t everyday revolve around an early morning run, family members and cooking large amounts of food?

————————————————————–

Where do your grandparents live? Are they close by?

Both sets of Billy’s grandparents live in Cali and are here with us right now and my grandma lives in Utah.

What was your workout today?

Are you a gravy on your mashed potatoes person? Do you like turkey?

-Usually yes but these potatoes have such a good flavor on their own that I wil be eating them plain tomorrow.

Tori November 23, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I am jealous of your time with grandparents, I actually have no living grandparents. :( sad day. (way to be a Debbie Downer)
On the plus side my workout for the day was Insanity with a little extra leg work! I loooooooove turkey and am currently drooling just dreaming of feasting tomorrow! I love mashed potatoes and gravy, I think it should be a food group. :)
Happy early Thanksgiving and I hope your day is wonderful!!!

I like a teeny bit of gravy on my mashed potatoes, but I also like to mix them with the other food on my plate… so classy. And luckily, my grandmother and step-grandfather live in KC with all of my family so I’ll see them tomorrow! And no workout today – rest day! and a 5K turkey trot tomorrow with my family!

I’m about to head out on a run. Bought a new pair of tights today just for the event. Why does new running clothes seem to make us instantly more speedy?

Keep enjoying the family time. It’ll go way too fast.

Fun… And those mashed potatoes look divine! Mashed Potatoes are my favorite part of Thanksgiving!! I do like them with Gravy! Yum!!

Both sets of my grandparents live close by! My moms parents lived in my same ward growing up! So fun having them walking (or rollerblading) distance away!!

I love Turkey too! So good!!

Lindsey November 23, 2011 at 4:23 pm

My grandma lives about 20 minutes from us, so not far at all :)
I am hitting the gym after work for 30 minutes on the elliptical and a lower body workout – lots of squats!
I usually don’t eat mashed potatoes (again with me being not a potato fan) unless they are my (step) mother-in-laws – she makes the best and they do not need gravy!
Love turkey – but mainly for leftovers – turkey, cranberry sandwiches and turkey soup!

Good questions:
Both sets of grandparents live within one mile of me!
Workout – Bootcamp class – 2 mile walk
Gravy on EVERYTHING!

I’m pretty envious of your big family. Especially the grandparents part. None of mine are with us anymore. :( That’s pretty tough during the holidays sometimes.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! <3

I am with NO family! Whaaaaa!

Well, my husband and my dog. But all my family is on the West Coast. I miss them dearly. :(

All 4 of my grandparents are live, and all live within 8 miles of each other! They even talk all the time, even with my parents being divorced. Zach has his 92 year old grandmother still alive and she lives a mile away from his mom.

I did some easy yoga to stretch out my legs for tomorrows Turkey Trot, and then I plan on crashing then showering then stuffing my face.

Total mashed potatoes with gravy, and I like fried turkey. I’m from the south, I love all fried foods :-)

I’m usually a plain potatoes girl. I made mashed potatoes too, so good! Charlie is too cute. My dad lives about an hour away and I live with my mom as of now but I’m moving like 3 hours away in January. I do like Turkey! I did full body weights and elliptical. I’m running tomorrow too, perfect for thanksgiving! HAve a good one :D

Lyn @ FueledBySalad November 23, 2011 at 6:33 pm

Looks like you had lots of fun! :D My grandparents live super near me – probably a 5-10 minute drive. And my workout today was a morning 3 miler followed by a 5 minute barefoot cooldown – lovely weather. :)

OMB Billy’s grandfather with the nerf gun is hilarious!! My grandparents live up the street so I see them often :) I don’t eat turkey but I love mashed potatoes!! I will eat them any way – with gravy or without!! Sometimes they are flavoured so well with garlic and such that they don’t need anything else! So jealous of your trip…I hope you all have an amazing time!! xo

I have only one grandparent left. My mom’s mom and she lives very close to us. We’ll be having dinner there tomorrow, like we have every year for as long as I can remember.

My workout today was walking from my car to my office and back to my car again.

I love gravy, but only chicken or turkey gravy, not beef. And I love turkey! And my grandma’s stuffing. :-)

Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts November 23, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Gravy on everything – turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing. But you’re right, mashed potatoes are also good with nothing on them…just not on Thanksgiving. :)

PS – I love the picture of grandpa, that is priceless!

I sadly had to teach a full day today so we’ll be embarking on our 8 hour (or more) car trip tomorrow at 4am! Sadly out of 5 parents (my parents, my in laws, and my stepfather) we only have my grandmother left, and she’s in PA, about 4 hours away from us. We won’t see her, but we will for Christmas! No workout today, still recovering from my 50 mile race this past weekend – maybe Friday I’ll actually move my body? It seriously sounds like you had a day of heaven. I don’t like gravy, and those mashed potatoes sound amazing. Happy Thanksgiving!

I am not big on gravy. The thought of it being made with turkey drippings makes me queasy. Workout today was a booty-kicking spin class followed by weights.

Kate @ Chasing It November 23, 2011 at 8:13 pm

OMG i love your grandpa!! coolest old man EVER. to tell the truth, I don’t really like either the turkey OR the mashed potatoes….its all about the stuffing, green beans, creamed onions, and pumpkin pie. This year I’m making 3 different kinds of pie, but in individual “mini-pies” in a muffin tin!

I lurv gravy, gimme a straw, I’ll drink it.

Sounds like such a fun day- I want those mashed potatoes!! I actually live with my grandmother which is nice but the generation gap also does make things annoying every so often! My workout this morning was a treadmill ‘trot’ of 6 miles- bring on the turkey :D

I prefer butter on my potatoes, and yes Turkey is yum, with gravy.

I had a personal training sesh today, was a good time.

My one Grandma lives in my hometown about 7 minutes from my Mom, and my other Grandma lives about 12 hours away, both of my grandfathers are passed.

Happy TurkeyDay to youuuuuuu … tomorrow lol

Janae, you are sooo pretty!!!! You just got me even more excited to eat mashed potatoes tomorrow :)

My grandpa lives about 20 minutes outside of the city where I live, on a farm. Growing up it was always so fun to go to his house because he always had horses, cows, chickens, and he even has a donkey!!

I did a full-on core workout (core synergistics from p90x– my faaaave!!) and it felt AMAZING after having been sick all weekend on not being able to work out at all!

Gravy’s alright, but only a verrry small amount and only if it’s the right kind. I’m very particular about my gravy. I usually just put some butter and lotssss of pepper on the taters and they are heavenly. ohhh my stomach’s growling just thinking about it! yay!

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

My grandparents live sooo far away.. Texas and New York! We can’t get together on thanksgiving.. but family time is always the best :) Workout today is the turkey trot of course! I do like turkey but my favorite dish is sweet potatoes!

Where do your grandparents live? Are they close by?

My on remaining gran (we call her nana) lives really close to us, only a 15 minute or so drive in a wee posh old ladies town. That said, shes the least grannyish gran ever and says some hilariously inappropriate stuff! She also goes to the gym 4 times a week, dresses really modernly and loves the internet.

What was your workout today?

Im going to head to the gym later, get my cardio on and weights!

Also did you seriiously put marshmallows in potato?! xx

My Holiday workout… Well, after perusing the black market (eerr, black friday) circulars, where the world tries to convince me I need something that I hadn’t yet even considered purchasing, I went out in a brisk, but not cold slightly foggy morning. The roads were clear, sweetly quiet, and I did a 4 mile hill loop and then 3 marathon pace miles. Something about holiday morning runs make me feel extra alive. No it’s time for the Lions to win (Doubt it, but there is a chance – I’m from Detroit) but instead of nerf guns it will be a Wii tournament at my gathering.

My grandma lives in California so I don’t see her often but I have such great memories.
I did a killer class (Nike Training Club) and then went on a jog with my 9 yr old.
I’m not a huge turkey fan but I love all of the side dishes. My goal this year is to practice restraint. We’ll see.

I turkey trotted my way to a new 5M PR! It felt pretty good. I’m still trying to figure out how to run a shorter race, but I’m getting there.

Unfortunately, all my family is out west and I am in NYC. But we talk a lot and I visit when I can. I have wonderful memories with them. I can’t wait to move back to the west coast and be closer!

Danica @ GirlsThatRun November 24, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Today’s workout was the Turkey Dash 5k – and Mr. Brightside got me through to a PR!!
I think I like all the sides more than the turkey. I usually just eat the turkey along a with a forkfull of stuffing and potatoes.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving with tons of yummy food!!!

Brittany November 24, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I’m in charge of the meatballs and biscuits.

Never been to Yogurtland so I guess I need to live through you with the flavors..peanut butter cookie and chocolate milkshake with a side of vanilla to balance it out.

Had a great Turkey Trot, but realistically I will be running 10x faster and longer with the crowds tomorrow on BLACK Friday! People watching is its own sport.
