Scared While Working Out

October 7, 2011

In case you were wondering….no, I do not brush my hair or look in a mirror (except for when I am brushing my teeth in the dark and I am still half asleep) before I go to the gym in the morning.

Good thing my workout was in the DARK cardio cinema this morning so no one could make fun of my hair mountains.

Photo 2 copy 3

I started a new book during my workout today and it is scary (okay, it is actually just really intense but I kind of consider that scary).  I am weird about scary things.  I get scared VERY VERY easily (6th Sense still traumatizes me and I may force Billy to sleep with the lights on if I am scared every now and then) but I strangely really love it.

This morning I read while spinning… has been too long since I have sat on a spin bike. I had an awesome workout because the whole time I felt like I had to bike away FAST from the bad guy in my book.

5 minutes hill climb (first half in saddle, second half out of saddle)

2 minutes SPRINTING in the saddle, tension resembling a flat road

Repeat 5 times.

Billy was awake from the hours of 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. last night.  I heard him on the phone with his brothers and he sounded very happy and excited.

It was like Chrismtas morning for him.

Why?  Because you could pre-order the iphone 4s starting at 1 a.m.  Luckily, selling our old phones + qualifying for new phones with our contracts = really cheap new phones.

I am getting white and B is getting the black one.  Now to just find a waterproof/drop proof/car running over it proof case and I will be all set.

Screen Shot 2011 10 07 at 9 38 45 AM

Billy’s love for Apple products is almost equivolent to my love for fro-yo establishments…..key word ALMOST.

This week I made the best $2 purchase I will ever make.

IMG 0014

My neice is quite the entrepeneur.  She is currently selling foot massage cards.  For $1 you can buy a punch card for 10 foot massages.  For $2 you can buy an UNLIMITED/lifetime foot massage pass (blackout days: her bday, Christmas and Halloween).

If you lose your card it costs 10 cents for a new one and the card MUST be present at massage (she checks her signature very carefully to make sure that it isn’t forged).

I am going to get my card laminated today…….I will be taking full advantage of this;)

Are you a fan of SCARY things?  Books?  Movies?

-Yep, but I regret it after when I have bad dreams and sleep with one eye open.

Are you an Apple fan?

Do you like foot massages or are your feet too ticklish to enjoy them?

What was the best purchase you recently made?

Billy = phone.   Janae = Foot massage for life.

Linzay @ brokerunner October 7, 2011 at 4:37 pm

hahaha I need to get one of those foot massage cards. Where can I sign up?!

Ana Maria October 8, 2011 at 10:08 am

Me too! So cute! :)

Michelle October 7, 2011 at 4:44 pm

What book were you reading this morning? I’m intrigued…Also, I haven’t read while on a bike or elliptical – is it hard to keep up speed/maintain balance? Sometimes I’m almost thrown off the treadmill if I’m paying attention to the t.v. on the wall…so reading + working out might not be such a good idea for me.

Brittany October 7, 2011 at 4:46 pm

Hahaha I would totally take advatange of that $2 for life foot massage. I love massages of any kind! I am an apple lover. I don’t have a macbook but I am obsessed with my iphone. I like scary things but usually only DURING the movie. Afterwards I find myself not being able to sleep!

Danica @ GirlsThatRun October 7, 2011 at 4:50 pm

I need a foot massage card! And an iphone haha. I think I’m ready to take the plunge since my poor little phone is really starting to die on me.

What book are you reading? I just finished all the Hunger Games books and loved them! And yes, I am 24 and read books for high school girls :)

Kristen @ notsodomesticated October 7, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Oh my goodness the foot massage card is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard! She’s going to regret that idea VERY quickly!! ;)

I’m jealous of your Iphone. I don’t even have internet on my phone yet. I’m so behind the times!

Reannan @ hotsauceandhandstands October 7, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Your niece is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! I am jealous that she is offering such a good rate on foot massages! I need to get an unlimited foot massages for life card!

Emily@RunningPerspective October 7, 2011 at 5:57 pm

ahhh girl what book was it im so interestedd!!!!! and SO JEALOUSS of your iphonesss!!!!!!

Ashley October 7, 2011 at 6:01 pm

sign me up for the unlimited foot massage plan with your niece. :)

Anna @ Food Fitness Frolicking October 7, 2011 at 6:06 pm

What’s the name of the book that you’re reading?

And YES, I am a huge Apple fan! I have the iphone 4 and absolutely love love love it. Facetime is the best thing ever and the camera takes AMAZING photographs!

The last great purchase I bought was my new camera! I just took some new photos today (see my new post!) and I just love the photo quality!

Have a great friday! PS, I love your spinning workout..I’ll have to give it a try! :)

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List October 7, 2011 at 6:19 pm

what a cutie, Janae! And I do mean your hair and those awesome bumps…your niece is pretty nice too. ;)

Amy N. October 7, 2011 at 6:29 pm

I want foot massages for life! Best deal ever!

Jenny Finnegan October 7, 2011 at 6:29 pm

That is adorable! Enjoy those massages!
I can’t take scary stuff. This is how bad I was/am. When I was young I started reading Dracula. Ok, so you know vampires don’t show up in mirrors, right? Well, one morning I got up (after reading the book the night before) and was washing my face and I kept turning around real fast expecting Dracula to be behind me (since I didn’t see anything in the mirror). Crazy huh? Yes, now you and anyone else who reads this knows what a nerd I am. ;)
Best purchase recently = new workout clothes from Target. I love them!

Heather October 7, 2011 at 6:34 pm

I have to echo the sentiment… what book was it?? Always looking for something scary/sleep with one eye open kind of book!!

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey October 7, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Your niece needs to come to Chicago so I can buy one of those!

PS – What book are you reading?

Ali October 7, 2011 at 6:37 pm

What a great deal! PS- are you sure she’s not yours?! She looks soo much like you in that picture!

lindsay October 7, 2011 at 6:41 pm

i’m impressed with your niece! thats a brillant idea. I’ll come pay for one! and nice workout lady. SPIN CITY!

Marie October 7, 2011 at 6:43 pm

I am the biggest scaredy cat ever and it’s gotten worse since I’ve had kids. I used to love watching true crime shows but I’d be on edge for weeks.

I am finally getting an iPhone; so excited!!! We have an old flip-phone right now that’s so old, I get about 20-min talk time before it dies. I can mimic the “low-battery” sound pretty well now. ;)

Your niece is so adorable! ;)

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife October 7, 2011 at 6:46 pm

Adorable niece!!

I love fro yo TOO!! And apple products :)

Michelle October 7, 2011 at 6:52 pm

I LOVE apple products. I left my phone at home the other day and was having panic attacks all day! :)

I have such a hard time watching scary stuff when my roommate isn’t home! I love it but there are to many closets in my house to feel comfortable after! I also have to change the channel when the new commercials come on for Paranormal Activity 3 because creepy little kids REALLY scare me!

Laura @ LauraLikesDesign October 7, 2011 at 7:11 pm

What book are you reading?! I love scary stories!

Kiah October 7, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Reading while working out?! What multitasking abilities :-)

Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) October 7, 2011 at 7:24 pm

I LOVE my iphone. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I just bought a MAC computer (been a PC girl forever) and am really loving it.
No…I don’t like scary things. I can’t understand why people would intentionally want to be scared.

Jan J October 7, 2011 at 7:25 pm

I like suspense, but NOT yucky-evil-scary. (Poltergeist traumatized me as a kid!) Strangely, I liked 6th Sense, too! I like how it ends.

Ahhhh, I LOVE foot massages!

My best purchase recently was a juicer at a garage sale for $3. I cancelled the one I had ordered for $150. SWEET.

Kristin October 7, 2011 at 7:26 pm

I’ve said it a million times and I’m about to say it one million and one times…I love your blog and it brightens my day–every day. :)

I really like scary things but I don’t get scared very easily. It’s funny you mentioned The Six Sense, though, because it is one of the movies that has scared me. The Ring? Not so much. I love haunted houses/trails/rides so I’m excited it’s Halloween time!

I also LOOOOVEEE foot massages. The foot massage is the biggest reason I splurge for pedicures…heavenly!

Tabaitha October 7, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Your niece is one smart little girl and you get to reap the benefits.
I am a fan of scary books or movies because I love the adrenaline rush, but it always backfires. Poor Adam doesn’t stand a chance at night, because my mind runs wild if I hear a noise and like you the lights will be on all night.
I am now an Apple fan ever since we got our Iphone4’s back in August. I could never have another phone. I love foot massages or just massages in general. When I get a chance, I indulge in pedicures, especially when they give good foot massages. Thankfully I found a great place by my house that gives the best pedicures I’ve ever had. The best purchase I made recently has to be my Iphone.

Jacqueline October 7, 2011 at 7:40 pm

i looove scary stuff, but then sometimes i regret watching movies that are… disturbing like the grudge andddd paranormal activity… well, really just the grudge. i like thrillers though! like what lies beneath and the sixth sense (except the part where misha is barfing in the tent!) what book are you reading!? i just finished my series and now i’m bored. oh man i wish i had a niece that wasn’t super girly and wouldn’t even think about touching another person’s foot. foot massages are heavenly!

Lauren @ What Lauren Likes October 7, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I hate scary things! Haha I am a chicken. Ummmm who doesn’t love foot massages?!

Suzana October 7, 2011 at 8:02 pm

The Otterbox covers are the very best for the Iphones. My boyfriend has one, and his phone dropped out of his car onto the highway and it was fine!!!!!!!

Also, doesn’t your ipad get sweaty if you read from it at the gym??

Lauren October 7, 2011 at 8:15 pm

My brother needs to have a baby. ASAP.

Meg October 7, 2011 at 8:18 pm

I just pre-ordered my new iphone today! Yippee for apple products that suck us in and never let go. I agree, otterbox is the way to go for ultimate protection (trust me, breaking an iphone really sucks and unfortunately, apple is getting stingier) speck isn’t quite as heavy duty but it’s what I use for my phone and it’s a little less bulky than the otterbox.

That is so cute about your niece! She is going to be quite the business woman.

Kate @ Chasing It October 7, 2011 at 8:21 pm

wow! your niece is a future CEO for sure! aaaah thats so awesome you two both get new iPhones, they look SWEET!

Ok so every time I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows…I have trouble falling asleep….even though I’ve read it like three times already ahaha

sarah@spinach and spice October 7, 2011 at 8:31 pm

I actually never think about scary movies after the fact! Weird huh? And that’s so funny about your neice.. I used to give “foot rub” passes to my Mom for Christmas, birthdays, all special occasions! She loved em too ;)

Cara October 7, 2011 at 8:33 pm

I second the otterbox. For a couple of reasons. I own a landscaping co w/ my husband. He has brokEn numerous “military” grade phones. The otterbox on his I phone has held up awesome in comparison. They are made here in Ft Collins, CO where I am and the company is so awesome. They give back, sponsor races etc. Oh and my 2 kiddos have dropped, sticky candy fingered, and chewed mine and it is fine. Other then being bulky it is da bomb! Hth- cara

Heather@The World Through My Eyes October 7, 2011 at 8:40 pm

Do you go to haunted houses??? I’m the same way–I kinda like freaking myself out, but I get terrified sooooooo easily. I absolutely cannot watch a scary movie without someone else there to hold my hand….same with haunted houses. I love to go but I need a person on each side of me so I feel “protected” from all the scary things!!

Brandy October 7, 2011 at 9:11 pm

I ordered the white iPhone too, YAY! I still have a stinkin’ 3G from 2008 LOL. way excited to FINALLY have the new and best thing :)

PS how are you so cute even all sweaty haha. JEALS.

Corrie Anne October 7, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Omg. I hate scary things!!!!! So much! I can’t sleep. And I need my sleep. So I can run! Lol. I <3 apple!!!! I <3 apple! The best purchase was a cute pair of little pointy heels!

Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health October 7, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Omg we are like twins…I still get freaked out by the 6th sense too!! And I so wish I could get an iphone…sadly my plan isn’t up for a year

Shannon October 7, 2011 at 9:56 pm

I have to say that I’m impressed that you can do that while reading! Seriously, I slow down sooo much if I’m just on the elliptical and reading!

Can you sell your old iPhone to me? I want one sooo bad!

Best purchase recently… hmmm… not sure. Froyo!

And I also updated my blog, just for you!

Charissa October 7, 2011 at 11:55 pm

Foot massage for life!!!! What?! She is sooo adorable!

emma October 8, 2011 at 12:50 am

awwwwwww! your niece is mega cute!! foot massage for life?! she’ll go far in life!

Khushboo October 8, 2011 at 2:29 am

“Are you a fan of Apple”–> is anyone not??? I think I’m Apple’s biggest fan, even though I am still a Blackberry user…could not imagine life without my Macbook Pro or iTouch! I’m so tempted to buy the iPhone4, especially after hearing that there is an app where you can talk to the phone and it basically answers back!

Dani @ RunFitMama October 8, 2011 at 5:31 am

Please let me know when you find that miracle iPhone cover. I dropped mine yesterday morning in my coffee and although it’s currently taking a rice bath, things aren’t looking too good for it.

Gen October 8, 2011 at 5:38 am

Aaaaw your niece is so cute!!!! :D
Can’t wait to hear if ya’ll like the new iphones!

running ricig October 8, 2011 at 6:04 am

Scary movies traumatize me. I’ll be scared for weeks and not be able to sleep. We’ve banned me from watching scary movies ever again.

I JUST ordered the white iPhone too! We can be phone twins!

Samantha @ Samantha in Training October 8, 2011 at 6:34 am

I HATE scary movies but I find myself watching them and then regretting it after all the nightmares. I recently saw “The Fourth Kind” with Milla Jovovich and apparently the movie is based off a true story. Ugh. Nightmares for weeks!

I love Apple products! I have an iPad and an iPod shuffle and (hopefully) work is swapping our old blackberries for the new iPhone 4s!

I’m not the biggest fan of someone touching my feet because they are so ticklish.

I lost my iPod shuffle and bought a new one yesterday – makes working out at the gym go by so much faster!

Gracie (complicated day) October 8, 2011 at 6:47 am

Your niece is killing me, that is so clever of her and I love to think of her checking signatures on the card!

Jen H October 8, 2011 at 8:09 am

I agree with other posters…..take a look at the Otterbox for your iphone. They make them indistructable! We bought one for my old iPhone that the kids use and they’ve dropped it a million times and it’s fine.

Holly October 8, 2011 at 9:02 am

Your niece is so cute!! I wish I could buy one of those cards- haha :)
& HOW in the world do you read while working out?? I really need tips. I would love to be able to do that. It would make my workouts fly by.

Liz @ iheartvegetables October 8, 2011 at 9:47 am

bahaha the $2 card is a pretty amazing deal for lifetime of foot massages ;)

Char October 8, 2011 at 4:42 pm

i’d love to know what book youre reading too. always lookin for a good scary read!! love apple, but not foot massages. does that make me a weirdo?

Missy October 8, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Oh my word Janae! What book were you reading?! lol
I don’t like being scared, I watch scary movies and read vampire books but I will not go to haunted houses or trails lol I do not like participating in a scary movie!

Maria@La_Piattini October 8, 2011 at 7:52 pm

I do love scary movies! It’s weird though because in real life I’m petrified of ghosts, but somehow fascinated by them in movies- weird!

Tara October 9, 2011 at 3:16 am

I am just like you! I get scared sooo easily, and I hate answering the door when I’m home alone…things that go bump in the night, etc…but I LOVE scary movies and books and stories and haunted houses for some reason! When I was younger, I was still easily scared but my favorite book to read was a creepy little book called “Scary Stories.” The pictures in it were probably the worst part! haha

Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) October 9, 2011 at 4:35 am

Foot massages are pure heaven on earth. I would pay money for an hour long foot massage over buying clothes, shoes, etc ANY day!

Emily October 10, 2011 at 7:39 am

I’m a super big wuss about scary movies too- shudder. :)

I’d recommend an otterbox cover for your iphone- seriously, I have one and I’ve dropped my iphone on cement with absolutely no damage to it. The guy at the store sold me on the otterbox cover by THROWING his iphone across the store. I have the otterbox defender- that’s probably the most protective case you can get. Amazon has them for a decent price, because they’re not cheap. Also- they make a case for the ipad as well!! :)
