RUNNING SHOES GIVEAWAY

by Janae on October 5, 2011

I have something very special to share with you today.

IMG 0001

I haven’t told you about my new love in life.

Altra’s INTUITION running shoe is absolutely incredible.

Besides the fact that they are the cutest running shoes I own (I know that isn’t supposed to matter but it does for me) these babies are made SPECIFICIALLY for women (don’t worry men, you can enter the giveaway for the men’s INSTINCT).

IMG 9990

A few of the reasons I am hooked on these babies:

1.  They are drop zero (the heel and the forefoot are the same height from the ground).  This helps to improve running technique = less running related injuries, um sign me up.   These shoes have been proven to reduce heel strike and help your posture and alignment.  (Please note that you should slowly build up your mileage in these because they are very different than your normal running shoe).

IMG 9992

2.  I feel cool in them.  I didn’t have to tell you that one.

3.  They have a wider toe box.  Finally, my toes are able to spread out naturally with each foot strike without having to go up to a size 34.  They are dang comfortable….be prepared to see me in these babies daily.  I wonder if my job will allow me to wear these as part of my professional dress, they would look great with a dress.  I think I counted and I have told BIlly that they are SO comfortable approximately 2,456,432 times.

IMG 0003

4.  They are made just for woman!  I took this from their website:

Female Specific Shoes: Ladies – Finally a shoe designed specifically for you! No more dealing with ‘shrink-it-and-pink-it’ shoes! Altra™’s Female specific lasts account for a Woman’s narrower heel, smaller instep, longer arch, and different metatarsal positioning. This unique fit allows your foot to be more girl than any other running shoe on the market.

These shoes were designed by accomplished/elite runners that really know there stuff – people that I trust and are in the business to help you become the best runner you can be!

How to ENTER giveaway for your own pair of Altra Running Shoes:  (Giveaway ends October 12th, 2011)

1. Tell me why you run.

2. Blog or tweet about this giveaway (please tell me in a separate comment if you did).

I run because being an Army wife has been one of the most stressful things I’ve ever had to do. And, while I am more than happy to go through hell and then some for my husband, and I am insanely proud of him and his service, I need something that allows me to take a moment and breathe; especially since we are living overseas.
Running gives me that. :)

I run because I beat cancer this year (non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) and I’ll never take my health for granted again! I used to run to burn calories and because I felt like I HAD to. After going through treatment I realized how important exercise is for HEALTH and not for vanity. I spent three weeks in the hospital in February, I could barely stand or walk back then. Just this past weekend I went jogging right past that same hospital only months later feeling strong, empowered, and healthy. I just wanted to share that with everyone…do not take the strength and capabilities of your body for granted :)

I run because it makes me feel so good ~ I have such a sense of pride and accomplishment when I finish a run. I love the worn out feeling when I’ve run hard. I love the compliments from strangers on the trail – best/strangest one yet: “You look like a gazelle running so consistently.” I love the way I can measure my progress with the clock and the age group medals on my wall! runner_girl5k at yahoo dot com

I run because its challenging, I can focus my energy on moving my legs forward and my mind on the run. I just think about my legs, feet, breath, heart beat and it clears my head and gets me focused on the challenge. There is always the ability to do better either to run a bit further, or faster and I like a challenge. But, even on those days when I don’t want to be challenged, a run just makes me feel good by the time I’m done. It brightens my mood, gives me energy for the rest of the day or allows me to rest better at night. Aaah running.

I love to run to destress, to let go of the 1,000 things going on in my head and finding ME time. I have really learned to enjoy running-not worrying about how fast or far I am going, but just enjoying it as I am in it. Oh, and that calorie burner thing is a great reason too!

Why I run:

My job is stressful and I work even when I am not at work. Running is ME time. I can think, clear my head, work up a sweat, etc. ALSO, I am not a “natural” runner. I love the fact that if I put my mind to it…I can do it. One foot in front of the other. Just keep running. I still cry every time I cross a finish line because I feel strong and totally impressed with myself!

I found out a year ago this month that I can’t have any children of my own. Up to this point, I had been putting off losing weight because I thought that getting pregnant would just wreck my body anyway and that it would be a waste of my time to loose weight beforehand. Since getting this life-altering news I have joined a gym and am working on C25K for the second time (first time resulted in a knee injury). So that’s why I run, to move forward, grieve in my own way, and loose the baby weight that I will never have.

At first I ran to maintain my weight and though that still is one of the perks, the main reason I run is how it makes me feel mentally. It makes me feel great all day long and even though its hard to get my butt on the treadmill every morning, its the best way to start my day. My family can usually tell when I haven’t run for a few days, cause I start to get cranky!

Reply

I run for myself. I run because it gives me confidence in myself. I run because it helps me deal with all the stress of life. I run because I care about my *health*. I run because through so many unexpected ways it has brought me happiness. I am not the best runner, nor the fastest runner, but each time I run I am the best runner I can be and that’s what matters :)

Wow I just got all weirdly mushy…

What would be funny to note is that 4 years ago I would not spend serious money on an athletic shoe nor wear them anywhere outside of the gym… now I own three pairs but am still trying different brands to see which one works best for me :)

However i just moved to a very hilly area I mean its just all hill I was wondering if you have any tips about running hills for an entire run. I love long distant runs but i am worried that these hills are going to hinder my long runs=(. There are no flat areas its either up or down.

I am a Mom to three young kids….4, 2 and 5 months. Running is one of the few things these days that I do for just ME. I spend all day, every day taking care of my family, so you had better believe that when I hit the pavement I switch off Momma-mode and turn on “Think I’m A Way Better Runner Than I Am”-mode. I don’t care that I’m slow, that I can’t make it as far as I’d like (yet) or that I don’t look real pretty doing it. I’m getting some ME time….doing something for ME. And that makes me happy.

I run to get some “me” time and stress relief, primarily, and it just plain makes me feel better to do it. Runner’s high, it exists, who knew? It also wakes me up first thing in the morning, gets me some fresh air and exercise, so I can eat more. I love to eat.

The math geek/type A side of me really likes setting goals and watching the miles rack up and looking at my stats, such as they are. No matter what the rest of the day brings, I can at least come into the office secure in the knowledge that my short legs and I already conquered three to six miles.

And the less type A side feels there’s nothing quite like catching a really beautiful sunrise when you’re finishing up an early run or at least just enjoying the scenery in the park.

I started running for a patient ( I am a nurse). I had never even run a 5k and decided to run the Rock N Roll San Diego Marathon and raise money for the leukemia and lymphoma society (LLS). I ran in honor of my patient and raised over 5 thousand dollars. That was 2009 and am I am still running- second marathon was this past weekend in Corning NY- Wineglass Marathon. Around mile 20 I was reminded of a quote I heard from LLS- “when your feet hurt, run with your heart”. I crossed the finish line 11 minutes short of qualifying for Boston- but it still felt amazing! Running makes me feel alive, without a care in the world. I have met the most amazing people through running~ I truly believe runners are some of the most caring, genuine people in the world! This sport has taught me much about life- how to respect your body and know your limits when you are battling injury- and taught me patience. I do not have a twitter or blog but wanted to share :)

I love challenging myself (I used to not be able to run to the mailbox and now I am a marathoner), stress relief, spending time with my friends, but most of all…I used to have an eating disorder and running helps me not obsess about what I eat in order to stay thin. I run because I can.

I grew up with asthma and took daily medication until my mid-20′s to control it. I remember not being allowed to run the mile for the annual fitness test at school because I might have an asthma attack. (so embarrassing!) As an adult, I walked regularly and took fitness classesl, but imagine my surprise when I tried running on a treadmill one day, and I could do it. That moved to running outdoors, and now I run just because I can.

I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. I run so that I can eat like a normal person and to get time to myself. I work out a lot of problems out there. I hurt my back a couple of years ago in a car accident and have struggled to stay with it ever since. Partly because it’s so hard to find comfortable shoes now!

Oh my gosh I need new running shoes so bad but don’t know what to get. I would LOVE to win these! So cute and I need shoes to help with heel striking (have been thinking about getting Frees but haven’t yet).

1. I started running after watching my dad lose 30 pounds from it and become a total marathon junkie, and although I haven’t gotten to marathon (or even half marathon for that matter) status, I love the way I feel after I go running!
2. I will definitely blog about it now!

I run because I can.. and I run for those who can’t..

I’ve been running consistently for a little over a year now and I’ve never felt better! Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is in my opinion the most important thing we can do for not only ourselves, but for those around us- friends, family etc.

My goal is to be a role model and to encourage those around me who are currently living sedentary/ not so healthy lifestyles in hopes that they too will someday give running a try..AND perhaps fall in love with it the way all of us have.. :)

Reply

869 Abby October 6, 2011 at 7:00 pm

I run because it gives me the chance to get out of the world and just think. About nothing…or everything… I think I love running because I know that when I’m running I am doing the absolute right thing and there’s no way I can make a wrong decision or fail while I’m running. If that makes any sense… =)

On days where I am running around like a crazy person the only thing that keeps me going is knowing that every morning I get to get up and go have some “me time.” I have found the one thing in life that I truly can’t do without and that is running/working out. I love the way it makes me feel when I have finished a goood hard run. Seeing what my body is capable of is amazing to me. I used to run because the Army made me.

Now I run because when I’m running some ungodly distance, that distance is all that matters. Nothing else matters. Stress from work. Bullets that barely missed. Kids that are arguing with one another. All of these drift to the margins. The only thing that matters is water, pace, GU, and repeat.

It’s nature’s therapy. And I’m saner for it.

I run because it makes me feel good about myself. I love being able to sweat out everything that’s bothering me. Sure you can sweat other ways, but running provides that feeling that no other form of exercise can give me.

I run for the feeling of accomplishment. When I come in from a run I feel SO good, I feel like I accomplished something that day. When I finish a race the feeling of accomplishment stays with me for a day or two and I just LOVE that feeling! These shoes would make my feet happy, I need a shoe with a wide toe box, not to mention they are super cute!

Put me in for this drawing, I run to keep me healthy, through years of weight gain and loss, to eating disorders I’ve realized I need to run to feel good about myself and beable to eat the things that are not so healthy for you. I know running keeps me on the straight and narrow path. I would like to try these shoes but not sure how they work with us people who have flat feet. They had no info on the website . Hope I’m able to try these shoes!!!!!

Why do I run:

1: Sense of accomplishment
2: Weight Control
3: The extra calories!!!! (see reason 2)
4: Me time (no phone/email/internet/Bosses/subordinates/)
5: Because the road calls to me and I have to answer.
