Pizza Night Is A MUST Before A Long Run.

October 15, 2011

Thanks to your recommendations (on how to use our pita bread) we had the most delicious dinner.

We had no fresh veggies so I topped my pizza with italian stewed tomatoes (along with 1/4 cup basil) and it was really good.  Billy stuck with the good ol’ plain cheese pizza.

IMG 0206

After dinner and watching the latest Office episode we had an ice cream date to get to.

IMG 0210

BMans cone was .79.  Pretty sure that is 2 cents per ounce.  I think he will want to go on more ice cream dates with me after eating ice cream here because it was real ice cream (not froyo) and it was real cheap.

IMG 0208

I got a little crazy (it was Friday night after all) and got a cherry dipped cone with vanilla ice cream.  Don’t worry, the ice cream on my hands did not go to waste….I licked it off right after the picture.

IMG 0209

I learned something about BIlly that I am not particularily proud of…..he likes Circus Peanuts, probably the worst candy ever invented.  Oh well, maybe I can train him to like Milky Ways and Skittles more than the below product. I’ve got my work cut out for me.

IMG 0212

What do you think the worst candy ever invented is?

-Black licorice and circus peanuts.

How are you spending your Saturday morning?

What grocery store do you go to the most?

-Besides Costco, we go to Smiths the most (is there Smiths in other areas besides Utah?).  Utah residents= that ice cream is from Macy’s.

Coy October 15, 2011 at 6:13 am

Ewwwww! Circus peanuts. I thought those were only for drunks at 3 am prowling the aisles of the grocery for something fun to eat! HAHAHAHA!!

Saturday morning? Well, tomorrow is marathon day so I just finished putting red beans into crock pot for red beans and rice for dinner! It’s the best meal I make. Yikes it’s good and I’m a bad cook! :)

It’s funny Billy had that bad of Western Family candy. I use to live out in Montana but now I’m on the east coast. When we lived out there we use to go to a grocery called Rosaures. I think that’s how you spell it. It was nice but kinda pricey.

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:22 am

AHHHH Good luck tomorrow and you are so right about the circus peanuts….those are the only people (besides billy) that buys them.

Cate October 15, 2011 at 6:27 am

CIRCUS PEANUTS ROCK and I stand by my statement (or exclamation!)!!!
After some coffee I will head to my nephew’s soccer game then their birthday party. I’ll be lugging the four dozen sugar cookies I decorated last night! I live on the East Coast and I go to Stop & Shop (Giant brand). I’ll hit up Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods for particular items (spices and bulk grains!). Have a great run. Tomorrow is a six mile run… I think. I run my first marathon two weeks from tomorrow so I’m tapering. Good luck on your run. You’ll do awesome!

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:21 am

Cate I will forgive about your circus peanut love….you and billy should start a club. AHHH Good luck on your first marathon in two weeks and YAY for tapering! Have fun at the bday party!

Sarah October 15, 2011 at 6:43 am

black licorice is definitely up there.. My saturday morning is going to be spent at the Homecoming parade! It’s my schools 100th homecoming so it should be pretty fun!

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List October 15, 2011 at 6:45 am

Oh my gosh…look how cute billy is in that cardigan! Kinda girly, but he ROCKS it!! :)

Coco October 15, 2011 at 6:49 am

eww.. That is the worse candy.. it’s like styrofoam.. Gross! I’ve never had cherry dipped ice cream- usually I just stick to the chocolate dip- but maybe I’ll give it a try….

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:20 am

Yep, JUST LIKE STYROFOAM!!! They were out of chocolate dip last night so I tried cherry for the first time and it was amazing, you should try it!

Khushboo October 15, 2011 at 6:55 am

Eew sorry licorice is NOT candy…candy should make you happy and should never be spat out! Hope your 16-miler goes well..I crushed quarter of that distance this morning :)

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:19 am

BAHAHAHA candy SHOULD make you happy and black licorice and circus peanuts do not make me happy! Great job on your run!

Lindsey October 15, 2011 at 7:05 am

Candy corn! I am amazed at how many people love it though, I had no idea!
Since I couldn’t sleep past 5:30am, I had a bath, started a new book (Once Upon A Runner), and now doing a baking experiment!
Costco and Save On Foods. I was wondering where that ice cream was from! I love Costco’s ice cream :)

Elizabeth October 15, 2011 at 7:26 am

Have you ever mixed in your candy corn with salted peanuts? That’s what made it amazing for me- it tastes like a salted nut roll when you grab a handful. Delicious.

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:18 am

That candy corn and peanuts mix sounds AMAZING!!! How are you liking your book Lindsey?!?! Costco ice cream is incredible too!

Anna @ Food Fitness Frolicking October 15, 2011 at 7:06 am

Pizza before a long run IS a must..thats what I had before my half marathon and it was grrrrreat fuel!

Those icecream cones look awesome possum!! I’m so jellybeans!

UM, I won’t lie, I’ve spent my entire paycheck at Whole Foods and TJ’s before..hehe oops! But hey, what else am I supposed to spend it on? ha

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:18 am

Seriously….if Billy would let me, I would spend ALL of my money there. Have a great day Anna and good to know you are a pizza girl too:)

Corey @ Learning Patience October 15, 2011 at 7:20 am

YUCK – I HATE circus peanuts….
Spending Saturday at our pool…its 90 degrees and sunny today… :-)
xoxo from Trinidad

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:17 am

LUCKY!! Have an amazing day at the pool gorgeous girl!

Elizabeth October 15, 2011 at 7:25 am

Do black jelly beans count as the worst candy, or do they get grandfathered in with black licorice?! Either way, EW.

My Saturday morning- I’m in San Francisco getting ready to run the Nike Women’s (Half) Marathon tomorrow(!!!!!!!). My brain’s still on Texas Time; so I’ve been awake for hours and hours. In a little bit, I’m going to go join Nike’s running group for a 2 mile easy run. I’ve heard rumors that they’re giving away free swag if you show up, and I am a SUCKER for anything free. :)

I usually end up at HEB, the TX monster grocery store, but I do prefer Central Market or Whole Foods. My pocket book doesn’t though! I had a friend take me with her to Sam’s Club last week though, and I’m trying to decide if the membership fee is worth the drive.

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:16 am

Black jelly beans definitely count as the worst candy ever!! AHHHH have so much fun running the San Fran half tomorrow. You are going to do amazing and you better tell me all about it!

Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries October 15, 2011 at 7:47 am

Mmm you can’t beat a pizza and ice cream night! :)
I absolutely agree on your worst candy choices: black licorice and circus peanuts – ewww!
My Saturday morning has been so far sleeping in a bit, then blogging, then going for a run!
We usually go to Smith’s too! It’s the closest to our house.

Tabaitha October 15, 2011 at 7:48 am

Can’t stand circus peanuts! Yuck!
Today I will be either be home later or still at the hospital snuggling with my one day old baby girl, Peyton. Most of our shopping is done at Kroger or Costco.

Jenny Finnegan October 15, 2011 at 7:52 am

I hate hate hate black licorice too! Blech!
We’re working on the house this morning before heading to a wedding this afternoon.
When I was home in Cali, I would go to TJ’s, Costco or Safeway. Now in NY I go to Wegman’s. We don’t have Costco or TJ’s nearby. Boo!
Crush that 16, chica! xo

Lauren October 15, 2011 at 7:56 am

EWWW I hate black licorice flavored ANYTHING. I don’t know how people like it at all. It tastes awful. It’s like a strong taste that’s not even sugary. No. Thank. You.

This morning I’m going to go for my swim and go to this “Applefest” festival in the same town. Should be interesting. I just hope to get one things… Apples. Should not be hard unless the name is very misleading ;-)

Can’t wait to hear about 16 miles! You go girl!

sarah@spinach&spice October 15, 2011 at 7:58 am

Yuck, I’m with you on the circus peanuts!
And damn. I thought pizza night was EVERY night, not just before races! heh, I’ve recently rediscovered my love for pizza (after a year or so of missing out). I am a Krogers and Trader Joes shopper, with the occasional whole foods visit! The latter is usually only for “special” things though.. it’s about half an hour away and a little off my budget!

megan October 15, 2011 at 8:09 am

I actually love black jelly beans and licorice !!! They turn your poo green if you eat too many :P Hate the red aka twizzlers . I agree with you though, circus peanuts are the worst.

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:15 am

BAHAHAHA!! You are hilarious. Wait a second you DON’T like twizzlers….how could you;)

Laura October 15, 2011 at 8:23 am

Jeeez those ice cream cones are huge!!

Cara@EAT.PRAY.RUN. October 15, 2011 at 8:27 am

.79 is robbery – that’s like the good ol’ days before we were all warped thinking 4 bucks for fro-yo is a deal! I hope you have a speedy-worry free long run…you got it in the bag!

Lauren October 15, 2011 at 8:30 am

Good luck on your long run! I’m about to head out for my long run too. I do a Costco trip once a month or so, then usually buy everything else at the farmer’s market and the local co-op.

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:14 am

Meghan October 15, 2011 at 8:40 am

$.79!? WHOA.

I’m with you, circus peanuts are beyond disgusting. I love black licorice, though :) I also have a strong aversion to butterfingers…I think that the orange stuff inside tastes like puke. (TMI?) Another gross one: banana flavored laffy taffy…EW.

Today (Saturday) is my college alumni reunion…time to get this party started!

There are a lot of grocery stores here that I love. The two I frequent the most are probably Shaws and Whole Foods!

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:14 am

I wish we had Whole Foods so bad!! Have so much fun at your reunion!

Magpie @ 2 Birdies & A Bart October 15, 2011 at 8:43 am

I can’t believe you’re already up to a 16 mile long run… YOU ARE AWESOME! Good luck…with that pizza to fuel you, you’ll have no problems I am sure. I’m supposed to be doing my long(er) run for the week today (only 12 miles) but might push it to tomorrow as I’m feeling a wee pang in my shin (and we both know not too mess around with shin pain…Happy Saturday!!!

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:13 am

OH GIRL…yes, listen to that pain and don’t push it. GOOD LUCK and have an amazing Saturday!

thealmostrunner October 15, 2011 at 8:45 am

OH SICK. Circus peanuts ARE the worst thing in the world. They already taste stale, right when they come out of that bag! How much worse could they get? Much worse. The answer is much, much worse.

Lori Kay October 15, 2011 at 8:51 am

Macy’s as in…… like, Macy’s?!?!

Worst candy: Anything but chocolate. Sorry, that might make you not like me anymore. But really – I tried so hard to like candy and I just don’t :(

Saturday: Study study study while listening to our homecoming football game on TV, then yoga yoga yoga and grocery shopping. We have an exciting life, can you tell?

Grocery story: HEB is where we go, but my favorite is Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Too bad WF is tooooooo expensive for my tight little budget.

Happy Saturday :) Glad to see your little nephew’s eye is getting better!

Janae October 15, 2011 at 10:12 am

For some reason our grocery store is called Macy’s too ha even though we have the department store too:) I will forgive you about the candy situation as long as you send me your non chocolate candy:)

Lori Kay October 15, 2011 at 10:28 am

I’ll send you all my Halloween candy ;o)

Janae October 15, 2011 at 11:55 am

You better:)

Andrea @ Andrea out loud! October 15, 2011 at 8:52 am

Ewwww circus peanuts?! Hahaa man I didn’t know those were still around!

Makena Ale October 15, 2011 at 8:52 am

Memories of YW nights and begging our leaders for a $0.10 ice-cream after activities just came flooding back. Oh and trips with my dad to get ice-cream at Macey’s in his truck where it was almost garenteed someone would end up with ice-cream smashed on their face before the night was over.

My #1 store, Foodland only because I live in the middle of nowhere and the next closes grocery store is like an hour away.

Satuday Plan: Gunstock Half-Marathon, Swap meet to find me thermos water bottle (the kind that don’t sweat and leave puddles on my desk and keep my water cold for mote than 20minutes…grrrr really dislike these two things about drinking water in Hawaii) and then to the water park with my girls! Wish you were here!

Kristen @ notsodomesticated October 15, 2011 at 9:04 am

I am completely with you! Black licorice and circus peanuts are both gross!! I’m also not a fan of red licorice. Yuck!

On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed my Jelly Belly that I consumed while running 11 miles this morning haha! ;)

Gina @ Running to the Kitchen October 15, 2011 at 9:05 am

Cherry dip cones are my fav! I already miss them and summer :(

Jan J October 15, 2011 at 9:30 am

I 100% AGREE!!! BLACK LICORICE & circus peanuts are THE WORST!!! You want to torture me? Make me eat black licorice. Have you eaten fennel? Nobody warned me that fennel is a vegetable that tastes like BLACK LICORICE. Nasty.

Beautiful 6-mile run today. I LOVE fall running. Beautiful sunrise, the smell of leaves- love the natural high!

Angie October 15, 2011 at 9:31 am

Another yummy pizza crust is naan – it has more flavor than pita. Your ice cream cones looked delicious for that cheap!

Jen October 15, 2011 at 9:41 am

Don’t diss on the the circus peanuts, I love them but only when they are stale and chewy!

Trw March 8, 2014 at 4:16 pm

This is an incredibly beuftiual piece and I had never heard of that product. Good to know about it for sure. So happy you preserved the integrity of this piece. Thanks for sharing on BeColorfulp

Amanda@runninghood October 15, 2011 at 9:52 am

I like Pizza before long runs and races! We had pizza last night. I’m so far behind with blogging that I really need to just take you out to coffee and catch up. You mentioned coaching in an e-mail?? Maybe not but I felt too bad to ask and thought I’d get a marathon Hungry Runner Girl time to just sit down and read read read but no such luck. So I’ll pick you up for coffee this afternoon right after my trip to Whole Foods k?

Amanda@runninghood October 15, 2011 at 9:52 am

That’s right, you don’t drink coffee…I’ll take you to fro yo and i’ll have a coffee. :) xo

Heather@The World Through My Eyes October 15, 2011 at 9:54 am

Ugh, today is homework day :( It’s awful too cause it’s supposed to be 85 and sunny! What a tragedy!!

I love black licorice!!! The worst candy ever has to be the yellow bananas that come in Runts–they just taste weird!

Shannon October 15, 2011 at 10:26 am

There are Smith’s in New Mexico. At least, there were about 6 years ago.

Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled October 15, 2011 at 10:30 am

I’ve never tasted circus peanuts, but aren’t they just pure sugar?
I’m spending my Saturday attending a wedding. Cake at noon? Yes, please!

betty October 15, 2011 at 10:32 am

hahaha your blog is good! the cherry dipped cone looks so good, thank god that drop didn’t end up in the floor. This is so true after I exercise I’m always craving for something to “pig out” but I never do, I will do so, soon….

Britt @ Runwithbritt October 15, 2011 at 10:34 am

Funny, I think circus peanuts are the absolute worst as well….and warheads. Ew. Haha. My grandparents would always get my sister and I circus peanuts for Easter. Needless to say we always fed them to the birds…literally. :)

Vanessa @ Gourmet Runner October 15, 2011 at 10:34 am

This is so awkward…both circus peanuts AND black licorice are at the top of my candy favorites list!
This morning I ran a half marathon–woo-hoo!
I normally shop at Ingles, but I don’t really have an allegiance to any place. Whatever is closer!

Annika October 15, 2011 at 10:36 am

Came across a quote that is made for you:
“Without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos. ~Don Kardong”
Haha! I like it!
And obvioulsy I like your blog! I check three times (ok, 10 times, you got me!) a day for new posts! Addictive and so fun to read! You’re gorgeous! Have fun at your race!!

Janae October 15, 2011 at 11:54 am

Wow!!! Thank you so so much for the sweetest comment ever! You made my day! That is my new favorite quote EVER and could not agree more with it! Have a great day!

Jacqueline October 15, 2011 at 10:45 am

circus peanuts are like styrofoam dyed orange!

lindsay October 15, 2011 at 11:20 am

so i am eating homemade GF pizza for my post run meal while reading this. Gosh, great minds think alike! hehe.
Hope the run went well!

Missy October 15, 2011 at 11:20 am

Oh that latest episode of The Office was hilarious! Jim’s garden party book, priceless comedy!

Kate @ Chasing It October 15, 2011 at 11:40 am

good luck on your long run!!!!! Pita pizza + ice cream = rocket fuel :)

Ew, circus peanuts. I have to agree with you on that one….I have no desire to eat orange foam, people! But yeah, skittles is a good start, and milky way will just be a gateway drug to all the other amazing candies out there. why waste your time on circus peanuts!!

I’ve never heard of Smith’s or Macy’s before! We have Giant and Genuardis and Wegmans out heree and of course every few weeks I have to sneak over to whole foods for some fun stuff!

Meg October 15, 2011 at 11:43 am

mmm ice cream!!! I usually go to King Soopers or Whole Foods (bad habit I need to STOP)
My saturday morning has comprised of a kickass interval/circuit workout, Michigan-Michigan State game, and writing the rough draft of a paper!!!

Grace October 15, 2011 at 11:53 am

I agree with you 110% about circus peanuts and black licorice…easily the two worst candies EVER invented! And the worst part is that everyone else in my family loves black licorice so we always have it around….ewww.

Lucy October 15, 2011 at 11:57 am

mmm I had my first ever Macey’s cone last week. Best spent 50 cents of my life!
But I have to say Trader Joe’s will always hold that special grocery store place in my heart.

Kristin October 15, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Good ‘n Plenty—big time EWW for me. My mom loves them and when she eats them I have to sit far away because I can’t even handle the smell. Dramatic? Perhaps. :)

Holly October 15, 2011 at 12:30 pm

Hope you had an AWESOME run this morning!! I was thinking about you :)
& I’m not going to lie..I love circus peanuts. They were one of my absolute favorite candies as a kid- I actually made myself sick from eating too many one time. Oops!
Worst candy: Those black & orange wrapped candies that people hand out for Halloween..I don’t even know what is in them…?! Are they peanut butter or what?!

Brittany October 15, 2011 at 12:57 pm

I am right there with you on the worst candy!! I hate black licorice and I hate those peanuts yuckkk. I took a Bikram Yoga class again this morning and got some packing done because I am moving!!

Grecia October 15, 2011 at 1:17 pm

ooh After reading this point, I want some ice cream with chocolate sprinkles =)
Black licorice looks scary and not edible to me. ew. I’ve never tried circus peanuts but they kind of look like packing peanuts, not something for human consumption.

Good luck on your long run!

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife October 15, 2011 at 1:54 pm

I love pita pizzas! YUMM.

Worst candy ever : black licorice and black jellybeans.EWWW.

Brittany @ A Spoonful of Peanut Butter October 15, 2011 at 2:06 pm

oh circus peanuts are gross!! Milky way and skittles are the way too go! :D
Saturday mornings I usually take my time, blog, eat a good breakfast and start on homework. Yuck :P

Liz October 15, 2011 at 2:44 pm

I love circus peanuts! I’ve actually eaten them on a long run before. I’m with you on black licorice though. That and ribbon candy.

Emily @ Life on Food October 15, 2011 at 3:00 pm

you stole my worst candies…gross and double gross!

Catey October 15, 2011 at 3:48 pm

I always eat pizza before my long runs! Including pre-marathon. awesome.

Also, I heart Macey’s giant ice cream cones!

Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs October 15, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Yeah I agree with your worst candy statement! Haha.

We live 2 blocks from Smiths, which is super nice. But we go to Sunflower a lot too.

I am so glad you said that’s Macy’s, I was going to ask, I NEED THAT ICE CREAM!! Hahaha.

lisa J October 15, 2011 at 5:01 pm

circus peanuts are up there on sucky candy. Also boston baked beans, dots (both the paper dots and the chew ones) and neccos.

Also on a completely different note- I love the way billy dresses- reminds me a cross between hipster (long fitted jean shorts) and preppy (v neck button up sweaters)- just thought i’d share

Run with Jess October 15, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Oh-dear Lord, that ice cream looks delicious!! I prefer Billy’s size thank you.
Worst candy ever… black licorice and black jelly beans… oddly enough, I love the color black though! I’m spending my Sat night eating PIZZA and catching up on my blog reading. Too bad my long run was today, huh?! Sadly, I’m a Wal-Mart girl… one stop shopping when you got 2 little toddler monsters…

Brittany October 15, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Worst candy by far those peanuts, black licorice, popcorn jelly beans, smarties (aka fake m and m’s),red hots, butterscotch hard candies..

Whole Foods is by far my favorite grocery..but Stop and Shop and Shaws are closest.

Best part about my Saturday was my Mom and I pretended we were 5 year olds on Christmas morning and were the first in line at AC Moore for their Halloween cupcake decorating contest. There were only 46 spots so we felt we needed to be #1 and #2.

Your soft serve looks amazinggg! What concoction did your nephew get?

Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) October 15, 2011 at 8:02 pm

Worst candy ever = Black licorice (or really any color licorice) and jelly beans. Sick.
I have never tried circus peanuts but I must agree that they look nasty. I will not be trying them anytime soon. :)

I spent today celebrating my nephews 3rd birthday. He had a super hero birthday party and it was the cutest thing I have ever seen. Think tons of 3 year olds running around with masks and homemade capes. Being an aunt is the best thing ever. I know you can relate!

Jess @ Blonde Ponytail October 15, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Yum and more yum. I saw the UTAH tweeps talking about Yougurtland and I was craving some fro-yo, but I ran a half marathon this AM and I tend to avoid dairy before a race. The half was near Costco which made me think of you! ;)

Excited to learn how your 16 miler went today!!

Lindsey October 15, 2011 at 8:40 pm

I HATE Jujubes! My parents think they’re awesome…I think they taste like nasty flavored rubber. Also, Circus Peanuts are on the list of “most disgusting candy ever made!” #9! haha

running ricig October 16, 2011 at 9:08 am

Billy’s ice cream is ridiculous. I want it.

I have a confession, I love both circus peanuts and black licorice. Does that mean we can’t be friends anymore? I’d have to say malted milk balls are the worst candy ever.

Bonnie October 16, 2011 at 1:46 pm

LOVE the huge amounts of ice cream…I now plan to get some tonight with my husband. ;) And I love Billy in that sweater! So fun. :D

Adrian October 16, 2011 at 3:13 pm

JANAE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spent my Saturday morning running my 2nd half marathon with a goal of sub 2 hours. GUESS WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? I DID IT! I finished in 1:58:34! I’m still on the biggest high ever! :)

Erin October 17, 2011 at 9:04 am

Circus peanuts are disgusting (and you can tell Billy I said that!!). I also find them confusing:

Shaped like peanuts
ORANGE in color
Taste like….bananas?

What in the world?!

Catherine October 17, 2011 at 3:10 pm

Oh my….I love circus peanuts!!! And PBFingers said blasphemous things about my bit-o-honeys….what is the world coming to?! ;-)

ERin October 28, 2011 at 7:37 pm

AHH! were you at macey’s??? the king kong cone???

Janae October 28, 2011 at 9:46 pm

Yes!!!!! Maceys ice cream is the best!!! So cheap and delicious!

boyer December 7, 2011 at 9:33 pm
