Frown Turned Upside Down

October 13, 2011

Last night I had a craving for my favorite salad.  The craving hit hard and there was no way to distract myself from the craving, graham crackers dipped into frosting couldn’t even do the job.

I tore the house apart looking for all of our stamp cards in order to go and satisfy the craving for free.

9 stamps.  You need 10 stamps for a free meal (we were going to split one because we are trying to save money or something….I don’t know what Billys talking about…..teachers make millions and BYU practically pays Billy to attend because of how awesome he is).

Now this is truly a sad sad face.

IMG 0183

As I was flipping the couch over to look underneath it for one more card, Billy said that we had all the ingredients and that he would make them for us.

Billy put dinner together as I was checking every last pair of pant pockets in the house just in case there was a card hiding from me.

IMG 0184

Not gonna lie….it was better than the salad I was craving….probably because the chicken was breaded and crispy rather than the normal salads shredded chicken.

We even had leftover dressing and tortilla strips from the last time we were at our favorite restaurant and used that on our salads too.  We used the tortillas from Costco that you cook yourself- I highly recommend them!

You know what else made me extremely happy?  Remembering about this amazing candybar from PAM.

She ran the Maui marathon and brought me back a candybar that had white chocolate and dark chocolate in the same candy bar.  Why hasn’t the mainland thought of such a brilliant idea?

Eating it with a cup of milk in pj’s and a ponytail while watching Biggest Loser made it even better.

What are you thinking about Biggest Loser regarding them splitting them up according to age?

-I don’t think I like it….I feel bad for the oldest team.

What was your latest CRAVING?

-Besides the salad last night……I was really craving one of those coconut fruit bars the other day.

Anyone ever been to Hawaii?  What about Maui?  What was your FAVORITE thing about Hawaii (besides the beach:)?

If you drink milk….what % do you drink?

-Growing up we always had skim but Billy likes 2% and he has me hooked….I don’t think I can ever go back.

Khushboo October 13, 2011 at 4:40 am

Peanut butter cravings, despite my daily consumption, is a daily craving of mine- and I can’t see that ever changing ha! I LOVE 2% milk, it’s so much creamier than skim! Although I’m a soy milk drinker, purely because of creamy it is–> almost to the point that it’s like whole milk!

My last craving was for mexican food…but I can eat that pretty much any day!

I don’t really like the age split only because it put all of the people complaining about their knees on one team. Annoying.
Latest craving: Peanut Butter!
I have not been to Hawaii and I don’t drink milk, but we keep 2% in the house.

I was craving guac like crazy the other day so I bought a huge tub from Costco and ate it or like 5 days straight on salad.

I love the people in Hawaii…honestly the friendliest people I have ever met. Everyone there is carefree and happy to be alive. If the whole world was like that, we would be living in one really happy place.

I actually drink almond milk!…and have been converting everyone in my family one by one!

Laura @ LauraLikesDesign October 13, 2011 at 5:40 am

Whoa that salad looks so good! Just like a restaurant with everything all categorized out!

A mix of chocolate in a candy bar sounds really delicious too! They need to think about selling those around these parts.

I have been craving an ice cream concoction from Cold Stone all week!

Never been to Hawaii! …yet!

I grew up on skim milk but now I buy 1% because it isn’t so watery.

Lauren Q (Mrs Q) October 13, 2011 at 5:50 am

I feel bad for the older team, too. I get the whole “age is just a number” thing, but when your team members are genuinely slower and more injury prone, it just isn’t fair.

Ugh, I want to go to Hawaii SO BAD. I wanted to go run the Divas Half Marathon in Honolulu in April of next year, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Boo. :(

We are a skim milk household!

Love Hawaii! We went to Lanikai Beach in Kailua on the island of Oahu for our honeymoon. We are dying to go back and plan to for our 10th anniversay. The beach we stayed on is rated #1 beach in all of North America & in the top ten of the world.
Growing up we drank skim but now with kids it’s 1%. I don’t drink it often but if I do it’s chocolate.

Heather@The World Through My Eyes October 13, 2011 at 6:16 am

I don’t like the age thing either. Their metabolism (I think) just doesn’t work as fast anymore and it doesn’t seem to be fair. Or Anna is just a terrible trainer–I’m still out on that one.

My sis just moved to Hawaii this week! Oahu to be exact. I’ve been before, but since she will be there for at least 2 years, I have a feeling there will be a lot of visits in my future. She wants me to sign up for a tri over there since it’s like the motherland of the triathlon world! You can come too!!

Biggest loser thoughts. I don’t think it’s an issue. If you look at the overall health of all the contestants, they’re going to be on a pretty even playing field. The young team has just as many health issues as the older teams. I’ve seen enough people from the older group really kick ass in the Biggest Loser to think it’s unfair to be split this way.
I really think the problem is Anna K. is far to easy on the contestants in her training. Jillian and Bob had the older contestants running along with all the other contestants in previous years. I don’t think I’ve seen the older team run yet and we’re a few weeks in. I think Anna needs to start kicking their butts and gear.

Reply

Janae October 13, 2011 at 11:22 am

That’s very true. A lot of the winners have even been older. I wish they gave more details about how the different trainers train them and we could really see what their WHOLE workouts look like so that we could compare the trainers styles. Obviously, she isn’t doing something right.

Reply

Emily :) October 13, 2011 at 6:25 am

I love the biggest loser! I agree, I also feel bad for the older team. It’s not fair at all – there are only 2 oldies left!! Anna prob feels like a failure, and it’s her first time too! It definitely should be all mixed up with ages.

Reply

Janae October 13, 2011 at 11:23 am

I feel bad for her but I just want to know WHY they are not dropping the lbs. like the other teams….what is she doing differently?

Reply

Emily :) October 13, 2011 at 11:25 am

Well for one I don’t think she’s as hard core as the black guy and Bob, but also it’s hard to be really tough on old people who can’t move as fast and who can’t do as much as younger people.

So I think she should be more tough, but who could be tough on an old person with a bum knee???

I lived in Hawaii after college, which is where I met my husband! I lived on Oahu and visited Kauai (my FAVORITE) and the Big Island but never Maui. My favorite things were the weather (I hate being cold) and the laid back atmosphere.

We had originally had 2% milk when I was pretty young. One day I hated how my milk tasted and stopped drinking it for a while. I later realized it tasted weird because we had switched to 1%, which is what we had most of my life. Now I drink skim!

I should definitely try to make a Cafe Rio salad myself some time – I have no idea why I’ve never thought of that!! Genius! The only thing I think I truly would miss if I made my own is their tortillas. They’re sooooo good!

I have this Kashi cereal that pretty much tastes like granola, and I had a strong craving for it when I got home from church last night. Yum!

I’ve been to Kaui, Oahu, and the Big Island, and my husband and I are going to Maui in April! I’m so stoked. Kaui has been my favorite island so far. It looks like a gigantic garden, and there’s wild chickens walking around all over! It’s beautiful. Overall, my favorite part of Hawaii is that they serve pineapple and fish EVERYWHERE!! I love those two foods!

We usually buy 1%, mostly because that’s what my husband prefers. I don’t mind skim or 1%.

Totally disliking the age thing on BL… I agree with you, it makes me sad to see the older group get smaller! Latest craving: Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins! I drove 3 different places to find one with no luck :( Finally found one after FIVE days yesterday! Those things are my weakness! Hawaii is gorgeous! I’ve been there and the Bahamas and would totally choose Hawaii over some random island! The luau’s were my favorite part! I drink 1% milk, my boyfriend likes 2% and I like zero, so we compromise at 1 :)

BL – I am hating the age groups. The older team really had no chance. And their trainer is kinda crappy… Sorry Anna. I am sure there will be a shake up soon where they will divide everyone up some other way. They always do.

Hawaii – Sadly no. Would love to go!!

Milk – I grew up avoiding the stuff. It hurt my tummy. But now I drink chocolate milk as a recovery drink. My husband refuses to drink anything less than 2% so for a while I drank that, but wasn’t happy. Then I switched to coconut milk, it didn’t hurt my tummy. But come to find out (duh!) it doesn’t have any protein, the whole point of my milk consumption. So my quest continued until I found organic skim milk at a grocery store in the next over. No fat, no hormones, happy cows, Happy Kaelin!!

Janae! This is so random and unrelated but I must tell you – I had a dream about you last night! (I hope that is not totally creepy) I dreamed that I was taking the kids I babysit for to a movie and when I scooted into our row you were sitting right beside me with your nieces and nephew and your sister! Haha! We both freaked out and had ourselves a little reunion right there in the movie theatre. It was the best! One day we will meet for real! ;)

NOT CREEPY AT ALL!! That actually makes my day. I wish so badly that that it really did happen. Seriously, we need to be real life bf’s!

WHOA!! Billy is a master chef! if the law school thing doesn’t work out, he will definitely have another career option hahaha.

I dont’ like the biggest loser age split-up either!! the poor old team, they always lose! :-/ I don’t really like Anna as a trainer either, to be honest….oh well at least there’s Bob.

Your guys salads always look amazing, just like they would at a restaurant. Mine look nothing like that.
I am not a fan of the age groups on BL. I agree that it is totaly unfair to the older group. I also think it is unfair for any group that does not have Bob. Bob knows exactly what to do to work out his team. I felt bad for the older team on the tennis court, that just wasn’t cutting it.
And I have been craving pulled pork like crazy! And i don’t even like BBQ

GIRL…my comments don’t show up on your blog:( I think they went to spam.
OH MY pulled pork is amazing, I will be making that for dinner asap!

I’m not sure how I missed that candy bar while we were there! Darn it! I brought home macadamia nut hershey kisses and they are already gone, lol!

I love Biggest Loser but I agree that there is no way for the oldest team to compete. At least last week they all got to read their letters. I was so excited for the older lady(I cant remember her name) that made it up the hill! AWESOME!

Craving right now? Fruit Salad. We are in the middle of a crazy heat wave so it’s the only thing that sounds good!

I heard it was 95 today (at my in-laws)….that is crazy. Can I go to Maui next year and run it with you and we can see who can eat more of those chocolate bars?!

That salad looks awesome. Many husband points to Billy.

I don’t like the age thing, I think it could have been better on some of the other seasons when the older contestants rocked it, though I think their trainer has something to do with it.

We drink 1%. I actually went to a nutrition seminar that said that unpasteurized milk is the best, but if you can’t get that drink whole milk. So I guess there is something to that.

Lately I’ve been craving smoothies! I’ve had one like everyday with granola on top. I’ve wanted PB too (as usual) but the peanutbutter I got recently is yuck and I don’t like it. Bummer =/ I’ve never been to Hawaii but I need to go, it looks beautiful!! I feel bad for the old people too. Younger people are probably more driven to getting healthier because they’re most likely not married, and are around much more pressure. Who knows though! I have been having almond milk lately. I don’t really like the taste of milk by itself and I usually only have it in cereal or smoothies so almond works for me now. If it’s regular milk, I will either drink skim or 2%, it doesn’t matter to me!

BOO to bad PB…that is the worst! A smoothie sounds amazing right about now…especially topped with PB!

I’ve been craving Chipotle really bad. And Wawa pumpkin spice cappucino. Yes, the ones out of the machines. Also, Crumbs Cupcake of the Month: Pumpkin. Kill me.

I’ve grown up drinking skim milk and anything with a percentage honestly makes me gag. EXCEPT if it’s chocolate milk. But I don’t like the creamy taste with milk or cottage cheese or anything. I think it’s too thick and just reminds me of….

And that bar should be illegal, Janae! White chocolate isn’t chocolate! lol

I think the age thing is unfair too. What do you think of Anna as a trainer? I read the new Women’s Health issue which made me tolerate her more but I think it’s SO weird.

WHAT…..WHITE CHOCOLATE IS MY FAVORITE….dang it!!! Okay, I have never been to Chipotle but I want to so bad. I need to read that article about her! She is not my favorite but I don’t know if it is just because I am comparing her to Jillian!

Hey Lady! Quick question for you :) I am heading up North tomorrow to purchase some new kicks and to get a ‘fitting’… do you recommend 26.2 Running Company, Runners Corner, or SLC Running Company? I don’t know which store to go to:)

I was so sad that Mike went home. He was my favorite person on the old team. I don’t like it either! But I do love that Bob’s team is kicking trash and taking names. He’s the best!

I can’t believe you get CHICKEN instead of PORK on your salad. What’s wrong with you???!!!!!

I think they need to split up the BL teams. The blue team needs to feel some success and I’m a little tired of the black team winning all the challenges! Plus, I was really bummed when Mike went home!

I always get the half pork/half beef burrito! Cuts the sweetness of the pork a bit!

I don’t know why the put all the older people in one group. Totally unfair – doesn’t give them a fighting chance. I wonder if they will reshuffle everyone next episode…

Oh I really want to go to Hawaii one day but I also want to go to Cali…so we will see what happens!
I’m not sure about the age teams on Biggest Loser either, I do feel bad for the older team now that they are down to 2 people. I’m hoping they switch to pairs or singles soon.

I am obsessed with those tortillas from Costco. Everytime I go, I buy 3 packages and make my black beans from scratch and eat that for dinner almost every night. I wish they had whole wheat though :(
