Good morning/afternoon/whatever time of day it is from your favorite Cousin Itt.

Just thought I would show a completely irrelevant picture of me blowdrying the sweat out of my scalp before I put it in a ponytail for the rest of the day.  I hate having wet hair because it makes me SO SO cold all day long!

As soon as I walked into school I noticed that everyone looked really nice.  CRAP….picture day! I always forget.

Good thing I still had all of my hair supplies in the car after the gym because we were told last week that we were supposed to look ‘nice’  for picture day (they were staring at me when they said this…..I guess the straight from the gym/slicked back ponytail look isn’t picture worthy to them).  Yes, I used the camera on my computer to curl my hair and put on make-up.  I only got a few weird stares.

I didn’t spend too long getting ready because I needed to have my toast/eggs/peach bfast before the busy day REALLY started.

It was delicious.  It was just a one piece sandwich today because it was the last piece that was still free from mold.  TMI.  I am sorry.

Last night I did not sleep which is good and bad:

1. Good because I came up with a list of fun fall activities for B and I to do together (he loves collecting leaves for our leaves collage, making turkey pictures with our handprints and canning applesauce)….he is a lucky man.

2. I was up with a head cold (I am not going to point any fingers as to whom I got it from…ahem SISSY).

The alarm went off this morning and I was already awake so I figured WHY NOT hit up the gym (don’t worry I sanitized everything I touched) and getting my body moving made my head clear up. SCORE.  I guess the cold meds could have helped too but I am saying the sweat and endorphins made me feel better.

Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers for my nephew!! We appreciate you and will keep you updated on everything!

Do you exercise when you are sick?  Does it depend on the sickness?

-Head cold and girl cramps= yep, it makes them feel better.  Flu and exhaustion = NO WAY.

What is your breakfast lately?  Do you switch it up or stick to the same thing?

-I have had an jam/egg sandwich (looks like it is just the whites but NO WAY I am all about the whole egg, very good for RUNNERS and everyone in general) and a peach or apple (with pb) every morning this entire school year and I don’t see it changing for a while.

I tend to go with the above the neck illness – okay to workout light, below the neck – take a break. :)

I am loving making banana pancakes with buckwheat mix, sunwarrior protein powder, and almond milk. Then topping them with PB, applesauce, and cinnamon. Soooo yummy :) If I go running early then I’m loving energizing with the Chocolate Cherry Clif Shot Energy Gels. Also winners in my book!

Can I come over for your banana pancakes? Those sound amazing and SO healthy….you inspire me!

Oh my gosh, our lives are too parallel. I got a head cold this weekend, and I still did my long run yesterday. It actually was the best I felt with this stupid thing.

How do you do the egg thing at school? make ahead of time, or at school? I think I would like that. I am happy with lunches and dinners as of late, but breakfast needs a change…….

Reply

GIRL!!! We are so alike, I love it. You are hard core to run through it and I hope you are back to feeling amazing ASAP!! I make it the night before…is that weird that I like cold eggs? What are you taking for lunch lately?

Reply

Salad with lettuce, carrots, peppers, tomato, corn, asparagus, sunflower seeds, and western dressing. Then I top that with whatever meat we had the night before for dinner. My personal favorite is when we have taco meat (chicken or beef) and then I also crush some doritoes on top. My husband keeps wondering why tacos have become a weekly rotation, and the honest truth is so I can have my jazzed up taco salad.

Reply

Okay, we really are soul mates…taco meat with doritoes on a salad=heaven. I think tacos once a week are a brilliant idea!! Good luck on the stretching goal…I KNOW you can do it!

Funny you should ask about getting sick and working out. If it something like a headache, I normally don’t. Something (like now) an eye infection, than I do as long as I’m safe. I don’t go very hard though.

I have pancakes every morning. Maybe a waffle if I’m feeling adventurous…maybe.

Reply

PANCAKES or WAFFLES every morning….how long does it take you to make it all?

Reply

7 minutes. 4 to heat up and 3 to cook. I make the batter on weekends. True life: I’m addicted to breakfast. ha. ;)

Reply

I am so glad to read that your family is ok! How scary!!

I tend to work out if I am crampy and such but otherwise I take a rest day. Sometimes I find that my body bounces back quicker if I give it a break :)

Reply

Oh no not you tooooo! I hope it was just a fleeting thing and you don’t get sick.

I used to exercise while I was sick, but now not as much. Maybe I am just a big baby but I’d rather take a few days off to get better faster, but if I am feeling up to it I will :) Although yoga with a stuffed up nose is horrid.

I am in an oatmeal rut, and I am OK with that haha. I love eggs but I needed to switch it up.

Reply

If it is cold/cough, yes I exercise. And hit the sauna at the gym. Stomach/GI issues, no.
Breakfast: does coffee count? I tend to go overboard all day if I have too much for breakfast. Sounds the opposite of what the experts say, but it is true for me.
Thoughts out to your family!

hahaha you are my favourite!

I find if I am stuffy and congested a good workout helps me clear up – at least temporarily!
My breakfasts are anything and everything pumpkin! I am going to turn orange soon…BUT the best breakfast or lunch meal I have had is on a thin sandwich bun, put PB on one side and pumpkin butter on the other, slice up a apple layer it on, sprinkle on cinnamon and grill it! It is amazing!

Reply

Usual bfast – Chobani with Chocolate P.Powder, Almond Butter and cinnamon. Or egg scramble with broccoli and spinach.

Reply

I love begins at breakfast! What kind of P. Powder is your favorite?

Reply

OOPS….I just read your post about your P. Powder review….my question is answered!

Everyone check out Lindsay’s awesome giveaway!

lol…came back to tell you about it!

I have to blow dry my hair every morning, too, otherwise I freeze all day long–especially since the temp was 35* this morning! Yikes!

Reply

Love your hair! I didn’t comment on the last post, but I am so glad your family is OK. You’re fam is in my thoughts!

I usually take a day off or two when I’m sick. I figure I’d rather rest than break down my immune system more by working out.

Lately, I’ve been eating a slice of whole wheat toast with CRUNCHY peanut butter and a banana. My favorites. I’m also a cereal monster…I will eat cereal any time of day!

By the way, thanks for responding to my questions about being in a rut with running! It made me feel A LOT better! You are awesome, girl!! :)

Reply

OH GOOD!! I am glad it helped and you better keep me updated with how you are doing. Crunchy pb is the only way to eat pb. Cereal….how have I forgotten about that for my bfast!?!?!

Reply

PS Thank you so much Sarah for your sweet comment:)

My school pictures turned out horrible! I too forgot it was picture day and swam the morning of, so my hair was a egg’s nest lol. Ah well, little eight year olds think I am pretty when I literally come to school in pjs.
My breakfast is always my same old oats or oatbran, but I am not complaining I love it!!

Reply

BAHAHA You are pretty no matter what you are in!! How do we forget about picture day ha;) I need to try oat bran!

Reply

I always have to dry my hair in the morning–otherwise I freeze! Especially when it is 35* outside like it was this morning!

Reply

NOOOOOO 35 DEGREES!?!?! That makes my heart sad!!

Reply

Yes, it is very sad! And there is *way* too much snow on the mountains already!

Reply

Sometimes the best way to clear a runny nose is to run it out! But I try to give fair warning to those running in the vicinity whenever I’m going to cough up something not so pleasant.

Breakfast everyday is a cup of green tea, a banana, and a peanut butter granola bar!

Reply

BAHAHAH you are a good person for warning those around you ha. PB granola bar…delicious!

Reply

If it’s something minor where I’m technically still functioning (cold, headache, etc.) I’ll still workout, but if my stomach is messing with me, I play it safe.

My breakfast is usually always exactly the same (oatmeal, cinnamon, berries, raisins, applesauce). Lately, though, I’ve been craving cereal like crazy.

Reply

As I’m sure you’ve seen on my blog, I am the queen of eating the same thing for breakfast almost every morning … peanut butter and banana on whole wheat toast (with coffee!). I love it, and it satisfies me, so I don’t see it changing anytime soon!

Reply

Ha! When I was a kid I always forgot about picture day, and now that I am a mom, I still forget :P

You look awesome no matter what, Janae :) For real.

Reply

I’ve been eating a ton of hot pumpkin oats….becuase of fall of course :)

Reply

I do the same as you in regard to not feeling well/working out. For breakfast, we usually do oatmeal, baked oatmeal, muffins, pancakes, french toast, waffles, cereal, quick breads, etc. Most of it, I make ahead and reheat or I make as lunch for the kids and they’ll have it as leftovers the day after. ;)

Have a wonderful Tuesday!!! ;)

Reply

Ooh! Also forgot to say that I LOVE your side-swept bangs! Mine always flap in my face. ;)

Reply

Thanks! My trick is lots of hairspray….ha

Reply

What curler do you use? I want to find one for styling my hair but I never know about these sort of girly things.

Reply

Hey you!!! I just use whatever my Sis uses! It is a curler and a straightner. It is called the instyler and I can email you the link!

Reply

YUM you bfast looks AmAZINGG and haha totally been there blow drying the sweat out…i HATE wet hair it takes soo long to dry for mee!
normal bfast is oats with some type of fruit and some protein powder for an extra protein kick!

Reply

I try to workout when feeling bad…it usually makes me feel WAY better! Unless it’s the flu….then it’s no bueno… I made a new bfast today that looks fancy but it’s really easy….stay tuned…you’ll see it soon!

Oh man I just got over a sinus cold and at first I planned to run and workout while I was sick and then I just felt like pure crap, so I ended up taking a rest for about 5 days lol and now I am as good as new!

Reply

I totally forgot about staff picture day this year, which is pathetic since I also advise yearbook. I was really upset… for like twenty-seven seconds.

Reply

I usually work out if its just a cold or something like that, but if I know I’ll regret it after (or during) I just skip it for the day. Lately oatmeal is all I’ve been craving for breakfast, but the past two days I have had a bagel from Panera (best bagels ever:))

Reply

I kinda follow a breathing pattern – if I’m stuffy or congested, I won’t run because it could really trigger some of my asthma issues. Girl problems or other tummy stuff — all for it!

PS My Garmin came today!

Reply

I just read your post from this morning and I just wanted to say that wow, that is incredibly scary and I am so so sorry that happened. I am am beyond relieved that everyone is okay! You and everyone are still in my thoughts <3

To answer your questions- I used to be number 1 exercise addict and wouldn't take a day off unless I was literally on death's door step. But now I really calculate how I am feeling and then decide

I have the same darn breakfast everyday… but it's so good, that i don't want to change it up :)

Reply

I would forget about picture day back in the days too haha!
I do the same as you with working out while sick! If i’m not totally dying, I feel like a workout makes me feel better. I’ve been trying to switch it up lately mostly on the weekends. During the week I’ll switch off between oatmeal, toast and PB, fruit, etc.

Reply

I also go with the **above the neck, workout- below the neck, don’t** deal. That being said, I have had a gross, phlegm filled cough for a week now and it makes working out a challenge. I have trouble breathing and then have crazy coughing fits. Yes, I am going to the doctor tomorrow :).
I am a toast and fruit breakfast sort of girl. Sometimes I will mix it up with a protein smoothie if I have the time.

Reply

I’ve been eating a whole lot of oat bran and yogurt for breakfast these days.. both always include peanut butter or almond butter- and berries! Though yesterday morning I got to bite into some gluten free banana chocolate chip pancakes and scrambled eggs with spinach and cheese.. Perfect fuel for rock climbing :)

Reply

If it’s a head cold I’ll usually workout. Anything where I feel exhausted, weak, achy, no way!
Bfast usually goes through a rotation of 7 things:
-oatmeal
-yogurt messes
-bagel w/ some sort of nut butter + bananas
-pancakes + yogurt + fruit
-french toast + fruit
-waffles + yogurt + fruit
-some sort of egg combination
So, I try to vary it up but that’s not to say I sometimes don’t have oatmeal 5 days in a row or anything ;)

So I skip a post and miss something big. So sad to hear about your nephew – definitely will keep him and your fam in the prayers. What a blessing he wasn’t injured more seriously. That’s quite the black eye. I hope he takes you up on the Nintendo thing.

Reply

I agree– I do like to exercise with girl stuff/head cold. But if it’s the flu, there’s no chance!

Reply

I run with congestion, the start of a sore throat, or a slight headache.
No running with anything flu-like or fever or unspecified energy-sucking cold/feeling crappy. A big headache is too much head movement to run.

Depending on my hunger level, breakfast is cereal + berries, banana bread, banana, or egg + cheese on a bagel.

Reply

I hope you feel better soon. It’s never fun to be under the weather.

Reply

well I usually make up fun oatmeal concoctions but ummm now I want egg and jam! that sounds SO GOOD! And working out with a head cold is totally a win – especially running outside – clears everything up for a few hours! but with a flu…well I tried once….it didn’t end well haha.

Reply

Two weeks ago I thought I just had a head cold so I thought it was okay to head to spin class…WRONG! I ended up having the flu and thought I was going to die! I will definitely be more careful about pushing myself when sick next time!

Glad your nephew is doing better! What a scary thing! :(

Reply

Feel better soon! :)
I totally work out if I’m sick…well only if it’s a head cold. If I’m nauseous or if it’s coming out of the basement (TMI sorry :) ) then exercise is a no go. My roommate, however, things I’m nutzo for exercising with a cold.

Reply

Girl, you are so gorgeous no matter if you remembered it was picture day or not you still look amazing :) Even with all the jokes about washing your hair, it seriously always looks fabulous! Picture day and I never got along, I either forgot or sneezed during the picture…. yes that happened more then once, and no they didn’t let me retake it. Bahaha, at least it made for a funny I.D. card ;)

Reply

I’m addicted to overnight oatmeal made with oats, yogurt, milk, chias, cinnamon, apple cubed, raisins and banana slices. The next morning all I have to do is add peanut butter, granola, almonds and strawberry fruit preserves. Occasionally I’ll throw in a breakfast of pancakes but this is far by the most convenient…good thing it’s freakin delicious too!

Reply

I have a bad head cold too and went running last night after work. I was a little sniffly, especially because it was only in the low 50s, but apparently cold weather makes me faster and I cut 2 minutes off of my mile pace from Saturday and kept it up for a whole 5 miles, yay!

I agree… cold and girlie cramps – get off the couch and run; flu or anything worse – snuggle in pjs on the couch and get pampered by hubby :)

Reply

I totally agree exercise really helps with ‘lady cramps’ and a slight head cold. It’s not the best motivator though! but feel good when I get out there.

Am so boring with my breakfasts lately, it’s usually Special K/cheerios in front of 5 mins of breakfast television before I find I have not packed anything useful for work or my after work gym classes and it’s a old big rush to get out the door so I can take the 40 minutes walk to work. Otherwise I have to get the tube (when running very late) which is always so hot and makes me really grumpy.

Reply

I am guilty of trying to blow dry the sweat out of my scalp post workout. Some people find it gross but my hair is long and takes forever to dry. Although a lot of the time I think blow drying the sweat out of it takes almost as long and never looks as nice but I am lazy and use my energy on my workout.
So happy your nephew is ok, that post scared me a little when I saw it!

Reply

eh I don’t know about sick, I guess it depends how sick. If it’s just a little sniffle or whatever, I might exercise. If I have a hard time standing up, then I won’t haha!

Breakfast lately… hmm.
Breakfast 1: buttered toast + yogurt
Breakfast 2: ham egg & cheese sandwich
Breakfast 3: oat bran with fruit (fiberrr)

I’m pregnant now so that’s why I eat so much. Being pregnant is kind of like marathon training (insane hunger, fatigue and body aches) except you get way more out of shape rather than way more in shape…and sometimes you vomit. haha

I bet you look beautiful in the pictures!

Reply

You’re all ready for picture day! Having your hair stuff in your car is such a good idea for those moments when you need to look extra good. I should carry more stuff like that around in my purse… All I have is chapstick!
I’m like you and exercise through a cold and “girl cramps” even though cramps make running the worst thing ever for me…
I’ve been eating Raisin Bran Crunch like it’s my job lately. I love it waaayy too much. haha

Reply

I do exercise when I am sick. it makes me feel better!

Today I made oats w/ cinnamon, blueberries, banana and honey! So good. I usually eat oats w/ cinnamon, banana and peanut butter but decided to get crazy and change it up. Plus I read blueberries are good for runners so I am trying to eat more of them. I found them in the frozen food section at Wal Mart for less than $3 and they are NO SUGAR ADDED!!! Score!!! just straight up frozen blueberries.

Reply

I like to exercise when I’m a congested/head cold…I think it gets everything “flowing”. Flu/deathly ill, then No. I get hooked on certain breakfasts too! I’m on a cereal kick at the moment.

Reply

I’m the same with you about exercising when sick. Also if I have a fever then I usually don’t work out…because I will feel like I’m going to BURN out..literally. Eek!
So I saw that you use the instyler to do your hair- do you like it?? I’ve heard mixed reviews, but your hair looks awesome..which makes me want to buy it :)

Reply

Hope you get better soon!

Reply

oh girl cramps – I’m right there and couldn’t bring myself to run yesterday which = lethargic today. Annnnd my head hurts — so definitely going to try the gym tonight because you’re right sometimes it does make you feel so much better afterwards!!

You look pretty for picture day :)

Reply

After I picked up my car from the mechanic last night, I asked Tripp if the mechanic thought it was weird that I have a pink travel sized hair straightener in my glove compartment…I said it was completely normal, but he wasn’t convinced…oh well!

I love homemade apple sauce! With the little red hot cinnamon hearts thrown in, yum!

Reply

If it’s in your head, go ahead..in your chest, take a rest. I’m working on strength and building miles(running). Bfast was Vans (vegan) flax waffles, 2 minutes!!!

Reply

I’ve been eating low-sugar oatmeal with flax seed and chopped up apple. It’s yummy and full of fiber.

If I have a cold I will definitely exercise…It un-clogs the stuffiness. It isn’t pretty when it happens, but it makes everything better. Oh, and here’s a little tip from Aunty Sheanna…Try using a netti pot. Those things are AMAZING!

If I have a migraine (common, especially with a change in season) or the flu (that one is really rare) I won’t work out. I tried working out one time with a migraine and I thought I was going to die.

Reply

I pretty much never blow dry my hair (don’t even own a blow dryer anymore), but I used to quite often and I would pull the cousin Itt all the time lol

Reply

Sweat is the best hair styling gel!! You still can pull off a gorgeous look post-workout glow J!!!

Reply

i do the same thing…cold or cramps, i’m on it bc it makes me feel so much better. all over blah or things coming out of ends, no way.

every day aside from weekends i have oatmeal w/ a banana and tons of peanut butter. its the only thing that keeps me full until i can get lunch. and never gets old!

btw, just read the post…praying and hope all is well :)

Reply

If it’s just a cold I sometimes think that I can exercise it out of me…it’s only backfired a few times, haha. I’m all about the nut butters in the morning, since I don’t really eat eggs anymore I feel like they have a great ratio of protein/fat to get my brain going in the morning. Also LOVE ground flax in my smoothies and oats!!!
