The best part about training: Refueling

September 6, 2011

HAPPY HAPPY FOUR DAY WORK WEEK…..doesn’t that just sound absolutely amazing?!?!

———————————

Let’s start back up where I left off after my bike ride….REFUELING!!!

I got home/got ready/and was out the door in 30 minutes because Billy-bob was taking me on a date to Outback:)

Dinner at 4:30 PM…why not?  I go to bed at the same time as a senior citizen, why not eat at the same time they do?

IMG 9322

Bread with honey butter or in my case honey butter with bread.

IMG 9324

A salad with my FAVORITE Tangy Tomatoe dressing in the whole wide world (ps I could live off of those croutons dipped into the dressing for the rest of my life) and a chicken/bacon burger that sang to my soul. A baked potato is also a must.

IMG 9326

Helmet head.

IMG 9329

Um, I think the waiter reads my blog because when I asked for a side of ketchup he brought out a bowl of it….I like me some ketchup.

IMG 9330

We are really cool and take home a loaf of bread too…..at least Billy has lunch for the next few days now;)  PS that was Billy’s burger….not mine, I inhaled mine before even looking up.

IMG 9331

Yep, I was hungry approximately 68 minutes later and ate my favorite peaches/frosted flake combo while watching the House Hunters marathon with Billy….the only things I need in life.

TRAINING PAGE is updated!

What is the best part of training for you?

-Refueling and accomplishing things I didn’t think I could.

What time do you eat dinner usually?  Any other early-birds?

-Usually 6 but I liked it earlier because then I was able to eat cereal many times throughout the night:)

Where is your normal date night spot? Do you have a norm or do you try different places often?

-Usually it is wherever we have gift cards…..you may see a few more Outback meals in the next few days.

Outback bread is delicious and definitely worth taking home :) Since I’m an evening workout person, we don’t usually eat until 7:30-8 on a good night! I hate eating that late but I just can’t do morning workouts!

I am the condiment QUEEN! I would have loved that bowl of ketchup, too! ;)

And I love that your blog shows that real women EAT!!! :)

mmm that burger looks delicious! I need a trip to outback soon

Yum, bacon on anything takes it up like 100 notches. It’s its own food category.

My favorite part of training is the shower right after I get back from a run and then the meal that follows. Both make me feel all warm and happy inside.

Because the Outback’s bread is so awesome, I had to find the recipe. Here’s a copycat: http://homecooking.about.com/od/breadrecipes/r/blbread17.htm

NIIIICE! you guys had a feast! :-D

I agree refueling is one of the best things about training, in addition to the post-workout nap? oh yeah and of course that lovely endorphins high and getting to feel badass by pushing the limits every workout!

I’m a single chick so I don’t really have a date night spot, but Italian is my favorite ever – I always try to find the locally-owned places wherever I am, but Olive Garden isn’t bad!

Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) September 6, 2011 at 5:06 pm

Awesome choice to refuel! Love the Outback croutons!

We usually eat at 6-6:15 once we walk in the door from work. Typically when we are going for date night we either do thai food at this little place called Thai Cottage or we do mexican at Lupe Tortilla. Both are delicious in their own way!

Anna @ Food Fitness and Frolicking September 6, 2011 at 5:13 pm

I’m so glad we’re in the same boat! I love training partially (ok mainly) because I love the refueling via froyo, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, and everything in between!

P.S. Your hair looks GORGEOUS!

Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries September 6, 2011 at 5:14 pm

I have an undying love for ketchup also… glad I’m not the only one. :)

We usually eat dinner anywhere between 5:30 & 6:30 depending on the evening. I prefer to eat a little earlier rather than later.

Our “regular” date night spot is usually Texas Roadhouse. Love me some rolls and honey butter!!!!

Tabaitha September 6, 2011 at 5:20 pm

I love the refueling and the good burn your muscles feel. We eat between 5:30 & 6pm because i try to get the kids down for bed by 7pm. Our date nights usually involve any place that serves a good steak and baked potato. We don’t eat out like that on our own often. Sometimes i will cook a meal after the kids are asleep and we will have a picnic on the living room floor and watch a movie off of netflix.

My famjam usually eats around 5:30-6, we are early birds sometimes . We basically just eat whenever we are hungry ;)

Reply

Tiffany September 6, 2011 at 5:31 pm

We use gift cards for date nights too; We eat dinner really late at like 7-8 PM, mostly b/c my hub and I work out together at night around 6 and he doesn’t like to eat before. I always have to have a snack or I’d never make it. I would just pass out on the treadmill.

Lizzi September 6, 2011 at 5:32 pm

That all looks DELICIOUS. Oh man. It’s 9:26am here and all I can think about is burgers. This does not bode well for the rest of the day :\ hahah

Best part of training = fuelling + refuelling for sure, followed by that amazing feeling of accomplishment/TOTAL ENDORPHIN HIGH. I’m like a junkie… I’m absolutely buzzing after a good workout.

Dinner for me = any time between 6 and 8 usually. 7 is pretty much the norm :)

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate September 6, 2011 at 5:40 pm

I think the best bread is at the Cheesecake Factory. Puts Outback to shame ;)

Reply

Lauren @ Sugar Coated Sisters September 6, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Our date night spots are all over the place, usually random hole in the walls and not-chain restaurants. I go to the chains with my mom + pops, but the boyfriend likes to try new places with me in between our 30-mile-apart houses!

Reply

theAlmostRunner September 6, 2011 at 5:47 pm

I can’t believe how much you EAT, girl! But you work it all off… good motivation for FOOD!!! :)

Reply

Lilly September 6, 2011 at 5:51 pm

Your hair… it’s gorgeous def no helmet head, it looks amazing :) And that refuel meal looks perfect too! I was shocked to see half the burger left over, but then seeing it was Billy’s makes it better, he’s just so not as hardcore as you miss 70 miler! That brown bread is the bomb, almost as good as Cheesecake Factory’s… almost!

Reply

Chels September 6, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Heck ya, I am with you on the four day work week! The best part of training for me would have to be the endorphin high as well as the refueuling part too…I love coming home eating and relaxing after a LONG HARD workout.
Craig and I have little to choose from when it comes to date night if we stay in town. If we travel outside of town a half hour away to the city are local spots are either Blue Shusi or Red Lobster (Craig’s fav).
I have such a hard time eating dinner earlier then 6, don’t know what it is about it, but if I eat earlier, I am more likely to eat again and again.

Reply

Erica September 6, 2011 at 6:06 pm

Refueling: Dare I say it is one of my top 5, maybe top 3 favorite things in this world…….don’t judge. And foods I refuel on can become my latest food obsessions……hence my NEED for chocolate long johns right now.

We eat later because my 3:00 bowl of cereal tides me over, and I love how we both let cereal dictate our dinner hour!

Tomorrow is Wednesday already, looooove that!

Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health September 6, 2011 at 6:09 pm

I like to eat dinner around 6! When it starts to get later than that I either end up eating way too many snacks or I get kind of crabby haha

Reply

Holly September 6, 2011 at 6:13 pm

I eat dinner between 6 and 7, because by the time I get home that’s what time it is. I PREFER to eat it earlier so I can have a bigger bedtime snack though!!!

As for date night – we are the same and try to go places with gift cards. Or we do pizza carry-out. Not ones for fancy dinners – you get way to little food for your money!!

Reply

Lori September 6, 2011 at 6:15 pm

Favorite part of training: Meeting my goals. Nothing says ‘motivation’ quite like meeting a personal goal :)

We eat dinner whenever hubs comes home. Since I teach, I’m home early enough to cook dinner (or at least get it ready) before he gets home.

Favorite date-night spot: Anywhere with my guy! I know that is so cheesy but we just moved/got new jobs/got married so we are on a bit of a spending freeze. THAT MEANS that when we DO get to go out for a date night, anywhere seems extra special :)

I hope your cross-country coaching is going well!!

Favorite part of training–getting into a groove and getting to eat gummi candy to refuel during long runs!

I’ve always struggled finding something to eat at Outback..but that may have something to do with only going there twice. I’ll definitely have to try that chicken bacon burger next time I go!

We ate like old people my freshman year of college. The dining hall opened at 5pm, so we were there, promptly at 5pm, ready for dinner. And we always watched an episode of 7th Heaven together before we went, because we didn’t feel like studying at 4pm, and didn’t have cable and nothing else was on.

I eat dinner at 6:30 p.m. usually, unless I am teaching a fitness class around that time. I like eating earlier rather than later, though!!

I am a huge fan of working out and feeling accomplished and FIT :) I do like drinking chocolate milk or eating Greek yogurt afterwards too though!

The best parts of training: thinking about what I get to eat because I trained hard. And crossing it off the training plan as complete!
I have tried to push dinner later so that I don’t snack after dinner. So 7ish usually.
Date night (when we fit them in) switch around. One person picks the food, the other picks the activity.

Best part of training for me is how much more productive I feel when I get home. The food is always a huge plus too. Food just tastes so much better when you’ve put in a good sweat to earn it. We’re early bid eaters too. Usually between 5:30 and 6. We love to try new places for date nights, but Outback is one of our favorites too. If I ever buy Scott a giftcard for dinner, it’s usually to Outback. We haven’t been in a long time though! Those pictures made me want to go back.

Amy N. September 6, 2011 at 7:48 pm

I also love the refueling! The best part.

We eat dinner at about 4:30 every day. My running club and Vaughn’s cycling team all meet at 5:30 in the evenings (on different days) and so one of us is always out for the evening so family dinner became awkwardly early.

Is it lame to say that our favorite place to go “out to eat” is my in-law’s house? Yes, we are lame.

If my post cycling hair looked like yours I would be thrilled.

We eat dinner around 5:30 or 6 and on weekends it’s at 4 or 5!

I love four day work weeks…. I wish every week was this way!

Yay bowl of ketchup!! I hate when they bring out the little silver shot glass of ketchup. I’m pretty sure my 2 year old niece uses more ketchup than that ;)

Our go to date night is Costa Vida or Chili’s!

And that Outback bread is amazing. If I ever become rich and famous, I might have to demand loaves of that stuff in my trailer.

I usually eat around 7 or 7:30, and I love a good bowl of cereal about an hour later. It’s my nightcap. :) We walk to a couple of different restaurants near our house for date nights. Love being able to walk!

Oh yeah. One of my favorite parts of running is looking at my running log and seeing the progress I’ve made. Yay me! And refueling is wonderful as well. PIZZA!!!!!

Kevin and I are such late night eaters. We rarely have dinner before 8PM. Ooops! But we hang out a little after work, then hit the gym, and by the time we get to dinner it’s at LEAST 8. If we don’t workout, I’m starving by 5:00. In college, I was ALWAYS waiting in line for the cafeteria to open at 5:30 every night!! hahahhaa

Heading out for my run now, @ 5:30 am….before school (I’m a teacher too…..although your classes sound way more fun to teach than mine!).

After long bikes rides we used to go to Bugaboo Creek and I would eat an ENTIRE rack of ribs! Biking hunger is nutso. But its so fun because you get lots of lovely exercise while eating delicious granola bars and candy and such, then afterwards can stuff your face with delicious fatty foods with no consequence ;)

I have not been to an outback in forever! Looks delish.

I love refueling after working out and the feeling right after you finish! I love that feeling of success!
I eat dinner around 6 most nights, but my bf likes to eat later. So when it’s date night we eat around 7:30 -8pm. I have snacks beforehand :-)
Our date night restaurant changes. We like to try out different restaurants. The one restaurant we keep going back to is this amazing all you can eat sushi place.

LOVE Outback!! I swear they have the best croutons, but I have to say the ranch dressing is where it’s at! I don’t even typically like ranch, but something about theirs is magical. I could drink it straight or pour it on everything (which is typically what I do).

I’m learning the best part of exercise is allowing yourself to eat… and love it. I lost this when my injury happened now I’m all screwed up.

I eat my first dinner at like 5-ish, then I eat my second dinner (huge bowl of oats) at like 10. Haha. Bad habitttts cause I’m a grandma and like to go to bed at like 10:30 but I’m too awake after eating to sleep.

This summer was the first time in about 4 years I went on a “date”. I don’t allow people to pay for anything for me, so I’m not sure if you can consider it a date… But FROZEN YOGURT > Everything.

Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts September 7, 2011 at 1:25 pm

I looooove Outback’s croutons! I don’t eat salad (I know, travesty), but I eat all of the croutons off of my husband’s (or whoever else is at the table) salad. Delish! Almost better than the bread!
