But I could not stop drinking water during my workout this morning because I had an unquenchable thirst.

-The gym was the same temperature as always.

-I drank more than enough water yesterday (I peed twice during the night to prove it).

-My workout was the same level of intensity as usual.

-My hair was obviously not making me any hotter (temperature or looks wise) because it was completely slicked back.

-It literally felt like the water was going down my throat and then it immediately evaporated straight out and onto my chest.  Leaky esophagus….I think that must be my diagnosis.

I don’t know what my dealio was.  Every 10 minutes I had to refill my waterbottle and every chorus of ‘Run the World’ by Beyonce (I listened to it on repeat for an hour straight) I drank half my bottle.  Maybe normal if I was running the Death Valley endurance run but probably not while on the ellipctical and stair climber for a total of an hour.

Have you ever had those workouts where you literally feel like you can’t drink enough water?  What do you think causes this (besides if you plain old just weren’t hydrated in the first place)?

Did you have a good workout this morning?

oh my gosh I have had so many workouts like that! Sometimes I have felt dehydrated for a couple days after a workout despite drinking tons of water/gatorade! coconut water usually does the trick.

I’m still waiting on my workout til after work but I’m PSYCHED! I had to take a rest day yesterday because there was literally no time, so I can’t wait to move!

I’ve definitely had days like that. Did you eat any salty foods :)?

I think Kari is onto something! When I eat salty there is almost NOTHING that quenches my thirst! What did you eat at your little party last night?!?!

I only did an upper body strength training workout today because my shins are giving me some problemos. Hopefully a long run will be in store for tomorrow!

If you were deficient in electrolytes, you peed everything out and your body was short on fluids

I drink water all day long – I beat you though, I got up 3 times last night to pee!! I get up at work constantly too…oh, and in case you were wondering, I am not an 80 year old woman :)

I usually don’t drink a ton at the gym, but when I carry water on a run, I suck it down almost immediately!

That happens to me sometimes too! So weird! I want to know why it happens too! Do you think it could be sometime you ate the night before?
I didn’t get my workout in this morning, my Friday night will be at the gym :) I’m super cool like that!

Ughh being thirsty is just about the worst feeling ever! Good thing you were in the gym near a water fountain and not in the middle of nowhere where you couldn’t keep refilling!

Bright and early at 5:30 this morning I did my second run with Back on My Feet, a nonprofit that works to promote self-sufficiency with the homeless. They are a great group of people! Plus, I was all done by 6:30!

Ahh! Yes! I totally understand this phenomenon! As a runner/gym goer who hardly ever drinks during a workout, I have been experiencing this “workout dehydration” since moving to Arizona for grad school. Take this morning for example, a 5 mile run at a decent pace had me literally parched and crawling towards the fridge for some water. HOWEVER, it seems like the more water I drink, the thirstier I get, and the faster it all runs through me! No bueno…

YES!! If I eat a lot of salt or drink more caffeine, I am always much thistier!

I hear ya! That has been me all week!!! This morning I decided that sleep was more important than working out (don’t regret it either) so I only had time for a quick workout. I did the new bodyrock 10 minute workout, and the whole time I was like “I’m sooooo thirsty!!!” and I drank about 800 million ounces of water yesterday.

I have that same purple camelback. :)

Yes I have workouts like that once in a while — even after my workout I’ll drink tons of water and it still doesn’t feel like enough.

And I have the same exact water bottle as you.

I felt like this last night, AFTER my run when I was getting ready for bed. I literally couldn’t get enough to drink. I think, though, I was not very good at hydrating yesterday in the first place!

Been there!!

I have not worked out yet today. Can’t decide if I want to hit the Y to lift, or bust out the P90X DVD’s. Decisions, Decisions…

ive sure had those. sometimes i think it’s because of your salt/water ratio or sometimes i think you body just wants more on random days either way, follow your thirst :) have a great friday!

Have you been getting enough electrolytes?

Sometimes when I drink water I feel like it goes right through my system and I don’t adsorb it. I usually try to get some gatorade or vitamin water. Hope this helps!

I’ve definitely had workouts a lot like that!!!! I’ve noticed that more humid days make me thirstier even if I’m working out in the gym!

DIED of thirst on the treadmill today. As if that stupid machine isn’t misery enough!!!! Bless your heart for loving the treadmill. There is no way on this green earth that I could be a runner if I had to rely on it. I didn’t go get a drink because of the 4 children at my feet- I knew they would only be good for so long…

Maybe you ate something yesterday that had a little extra salt in it that you are not use to. OR maybe you haven’t been drinking enough for your bod!

My workout was awesome. I did Yoga this morning instead of my usual strength training (I like doing strength in the morning because I feel like walking around all day and moving helps my muscles cool-down longer whereas if I do it at night, they tighten up more when I sleep). But let me tell ‘ya. I LOVE Yoga in the morning. I think my students noticed that I was more focused.

HAPPY WEEKEND.

I have the same problem sometimes too. I need to start bringing more water with me on my runs as well as fuel more properly beforehand. My workout was a 7 mile run this morning. I don’t know what it was but my stomach was grumbling the whole time (I ate breakfast) and I was super thirsty (thankfully I ran by a drinking fountain). Lesson learned for next time, I guess.

didn’t workout at all today. in a hotel in atl right now, about to walk around the city and find some dinner. have a blessed day, friend!

Reply

didn’t you get a side ache??I always get those from drinking too much water!

I get manic sweaty! Hair soppy wet and the whole mess, so I constantly have to drink water. Today is one of those days.

Did you have too much salty stuff yesterday? That’s usually my trigger for a thirsty day.

Reply

That happens to me sometimes, too! Make sure you are replacing all your trace minerals and electrolytes. :) My workout this morning was a bike ride with Billy and a Pilates class before my shift at work. I’m tempted to go ride again right now because it’s so pretty outside!

Can’t say that I have experienced that much. But Crystal Light iced tea makes me more thirsty than when I started.

Workout was good. Ran a strong 4 miles. 5k tomorrow.

Ohh yea sure have! Sometimes I worry I’m actually going to drown my insides…you can do that, you know. EEK!

Just got back from a sunset run! :)

Maybe what you ate the day before messed with your hydration. Sometimes I think that is why I feel extra thirsty.

Reply

I’ve had a couple days like that… I have no idea why they happen, though! I usually drink roughly 8 ounces or so when I’m working out indoors, but there have been a few times where I had to refill my bottle more than once.

Reply

hello sweaty girl!! :) ha, yes, this happens to me but usually I get to the end of the day and realize that I have not had enough water and I am so thirsty!!!! I had a decent workout today. 7 mile run but I felt sooo slow!!! hard to even hit sub 8’s today. :(

what happened to all your colored writing???? I stole that idea from you when I write more than one paragraph before a pic b/c it keeps me reading when I’m over here. now I come and my ADD mind just sees Times New Roman and black…I can’t read it . True Story.

PS: I did read this one….but I do miss the colour explosion :D

I find your blog so motivating! I’ve started back at the start and am reading my way through! Thanks

Wow!!! Thanks so much Tiffany! You made my day. Hope you are having an amazing weekend!

I have days like that and nothing seems to quench my thirst! I don’t mind drinking the water but it’s the peeing part in the middle of the night which gets on my nerves!

Reply

Ah I almost ALWAYS drink a whole bottle of water (seems to be the same size as yours) in about 30 minutes…I also sweat as much as you! We should work out together and see how many people we can gross out with our sweat :-) Haha sorry…it’s late here. I pee like 3 times every night, it’s my indicator of my hydration level too.

Reply

I seem to always be super thirsty when I workout inside. I think I’m so used to being out running that my body heat can’t be contained inside four walls HA.

Reply

That happened to me in spin class! I always take an hour spin but I had to jump off my bike to fill my water bottle halfway through. It wasn’t even hot here!

Reply

I sometimes get this when I’m a bit run down. Got a bit of a cold or getting one. Otherwise, yes: salty food the night before??

Reply

Yikes! This happened to me when I was doing Bikram yoga for a week straight. Literally sweat out all the salt from my body and couldn’t ever feel hydrated. I drank too much water (no good) and hardly replaced the salts/minerals (bad bad). Hope it goes away soon!!
