How to entertain yourself.

June 16, 2011

William (I call him by his real name when he is acting mature) has some pretty hard finals today….that’s what you get when you choose a major like electrical engineering and you have to take a class titled, ‘Math for geniuses and people who scored a 36 on the ACT,” and so he was stuck studying all. night. long.

I had to entertain myself because the SISSY is in Kentucky and she took her kids with her (I know, it was pretty selfish decision!!!), and my mom already hung out with me once yesterday and probably wouldn’t fly for hanging with me twice in one day.

My favorite ways to entertain myself:

1.  Read blogs until your eyes start going blurry.

2.  Make homemade pizza using this recipe.  Out of produce for pizza in the Jacob’s residency… grocery shopping before we leave.

IMG 6686

White flour, cheese and sauce is clearly the best form of brain food.

2b.  Eat a salad while waiting for the pizza to bake because you have the patience of a 3 year old.  Maybe a 4 year old, but that is pushing it.

3.  Start and finish packing for CALI!!! We leave this SUNDAY for a 7 week vacation.

IMG 6685

All I need is a swimsuit, running clothes and swedish fish.

4.  See how many times you can text your sister while she is on vacation before she get’s sick of you and blocks your number (it only took 14 texts just in case you were wondering.)

5.  Watch this weeks episode of the Bachelorette again….I have issues.

6.  Watch Kara Goucher running clips on YouTube.  I will be expecting a restraining order any day now…I am her number one stalker.

7.  Sit outside on your porch and people watch.  People watching is probably the most entertaining thing in the world (beside’s running that is).

8.  March to a yoga night class so that you can finally let Billy study in silence…….it wasone of those nights……

Don’t judge me for my moose trophy, I will never move it.

Where is your FAVORITE place to people watch?

-Amusement parks, sports games and the carnival on Saturday was pretty entertaining!

What are your packing essentials (let’s say you are going somewhere warm with a side of ocean)!?!?!

If you had to name what you are the BEST at baking/cooking…..what would it be!?! DON’T BE HUMBLE… is time for you to brag about yourself:)

Snickerdoodles, bread, pizza and salad the size of a small child!

Janae June 16, 2011 at 9:37 am

Sorry the comment section was closed earlier!!! Computers are confusing or I am just not very smart:) Probably a little of both!

Allie June 16, 2011 at 9:46 am

I’ve never had homemade pizza but yours looks YUMMY!!! Haha I can see that you entertained yourself rather well while Billy is studying! ha

I only really ever people watch in the union of the university I attended and Cedar Point.

Sunblock, a towel, aloe, a really good book, my Ipod, a hair tie, swim suit, my overnight belongings, and thats about it.

Pancakes, french toast, anything that is dessert, tacos, and that is about it. Im not very good at cooking yet. Ill get there

Lindie June 16, 2011 at 9:47 am

You are so funny girl! Crack me up with your humor! That pizza looks yummy! I am the best at baking homemade cakes with yummy frosting.. And the best at cooking anything Mexican… Tacos of any kind!

I love people watching on the board-walk in Newport Beach California!

My essentials for the beach are similar to yours… Running stuff, swimsuit, flip flops, sweatshirt and… Rollerblades!

Shellie June 16, 2011 at 9:48 am

LOL. you seriously make my day with your posts Janae.

Where is your FAVORITE place to people watch?
– Parks, my front porch? Although I prefer bird watching =)

What are your packing essentials (let’s say you are going somewhere warm with a side of ocean)!?!?!
– Bathing suit, tanning lotion, healthy goodies, music, workout clothing, cellphone for playing Angry Birds! :D

If you had to name what you are the BEST at baking/cooking…..what would it be!?! DON’T BE HUMBLE… is time for you to brag about yourself:)
– I can make a “pretty” fried egg, great sweet potato fries, spiral noodle pasta, homemade “pumpkin bake”, chicken/veggie salad

Erica June 16, 2011 at 10:13 am

People watching at a bar/restaurant has become entertaining for my hubby and I because we like to see who is on dates and then read their body language etc.

My signatures as far as cooking/baking perfection: grilled cheese, chocolate chip cookie bar, banana chocolate chip muffins, and get all your veggies/vitamins salad.

A couple of different bikinis, a cute little cover up, flip flops, Hollywood type sunglasses.

Andrea @ Onion in My Hair June 16, 2011 at 10:13 am

You make your own dough?! Impressive!

Emily @ Sweating Sugar June 16, 2011 at 10:14 am

I love that you can just “throw” together a meal that looks as good as that pizza!!! My favorite place to people watch btw is in Vegas. I love it because there are a bunch of people dressing their best….which can be really cool or a train wreck. Last time we were there, HM and I played “Romper Roulette”. Boom. Romper. I win again!

Michelle June 16, 2011 at 10:23 am

I really love your packing job. Only the essentials, right? :)

I bake the absolute best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I have have millions of people tell me they were the best they’ve ever had. :)

I’m also jealous of your porch! I don’t have one but if I did, I would be out there every day. I like people watching in the Boston Commons. It can entertain me for hours!!!

Janae June 16, 2011 at 10:37 am

Do you want me to give you my address now or later for the cookies:) That would be SO fun to people watch in the Boston Commons!!

Michelle June 16, 2011 at 11:25 am

I totally would mail you some since my favorite thing is baking and then giving said baked good away because 1) it makes other people happy and 2) i don’t eat it all. But you’re leaving for vacation and they’d get stale on your doorstep for 7 weeks. :)

When you come run the Boston Marathon with healed femurs we can people watch in the Commons and I will bring you a batch of cookies! :)

Janae June 16, 2011 at 11:42 am

I LIKE THAT IDEA!!! I will be dreaming about them until then:)

Shelley June 16, 2011 at 10:32 am

I’ve made it a point to start my day reading your blogs.. simply because they put a smile on my face, every time! You’re hilarious and I’m a big fan. the end :)

HauteRunningMama June 16, 2011 at 10:44 am

Is it wrong that I now want pizza for breakfast?! Tee-hee!

One of my favorite places to people watch is Disneyland. Seriously, D-land never lets me down :)

Where in Cali are you going to be?!? So Cal?!?! If so you NEED to do a blogger meet up with us cali girls!!!!! That would be so super fun!!

Janae June 16, 2011 at 10:49 am

I would say I am best at making cassaroles, they are easy and they usually turn out great. Now if I were making homemade cookies, that is another story…mine always turn out hard as a rock.
Essentials-must have workout gear (shoes, sports bra, t-shirt and running shorts) walking shoes, flip flops, comfy shorts and tanks. Also, I always pack my on the go snacks-almonds, trail mix, string cheese, kashi bars, oatmeal packets, etc.
Lucky you, 7 whole weeks in CA!! Awesome to hear!!
I love people watching at the pool, espically the young teens who always have so much drama going on…it is fun to watch them flirt with the other young boys lol.

Janae June 16, 2011 at 11:15 am

The pool is the BEST place to people watch!!! Good call on the snacks…I LOVE string cheese. Casseroles are the best and they make good leftovers too!

Tabaitha June 16, 2011 at 11:06 am

We are leaving for vacation this weekend but it’s only a week. Jealous of 7 weeks in Cali. We lived in Cali for 3 years and I miss the scenery and friends. Have a blast. Will you still blog while on vacation?

Janae June 16, 2011 at 11:14 am

I will be blogging the whole time wahoo!!! Where are you going on vacation!?!?! I hope you have the best trip ever!

Tabaitha June 16, 2011 at 11:40 am

Wohoo! We are heading to a property on the river for a week with all of my dad’s side of the family.

Rose June 16, 2011 at 11:08 am

My favorite thing about my new gym is the mirrors are all at crazy angles, which makes it SO EASY to stare at everyone else working out. I love watching people work out.

Come visit me in Los Angeles! I’ll go to yoga with you.

Lauren June 16, 2011 at 11:09 am

My fiancee is a mechanical engineer, so I too saw how much he studied every. single. night. It most definitely pays off though! Congrats to Billy for enduring such a difficult degree! But the benefits pay off more than you know! ;)

Janae June 16, 2011 at 11:13 am

AHHH Thank you for saying this….I can’t believe how much he has to do for his major but you saying that it PAYS off really helps! THANKS LAUREN!

Brittany June 16, 2011 at 11:15 am

I just laughed so hard reading this. lol.

packing essentials: bathing suit, shorts, tank, flip flops, workout clothes and shoes. oh- and maybe some shampoo and conditioner and soap so I don’t get stinky. :P

Laura June 16, 2011 at 11:26 am

I just have to say that you marching to yoga MADE MY DAY!

Amy N. June 16, 2011 at 11:27 am

I think you already packed everything you need! Way to go!

mary (sisters running the kitchen) June 16, 2011 at 11:31 am

are you really going to Cali for for 7 weeks?! what are you guys doing there?

Hannah @PalmBeachRunner June 16, 2011 at 11:54 am

hahaha! you are TOO cute!

I like to people watch on the balcony of Barnes and Noble .. (wow now I sound really creepy!!!???!!)

I MUST pack running shoes and a book/Bible wherever I go.

I am really good at baking fruit pizza- because its fun to decorate lol. I took some pics of it here:

YAY for Cali! have fun girl!!!!

Emily @ June 16, 2011 at 11:55 am

I love people watching!! So much fun! I used to travel for work so I practically lived in airports and that became one of my favorite places to people watch – its fun to try to figure out where people are going and what they’re doing.

When I’m packing for somewhere warm I bring a few bathing suits, running clothes, a couple sundresses and tanks and shorts. And flip flops! I hardly wear heels in the summer bc I love to be in my rainbows as much as possible.

Victoria June 16, 2011 at 12:26 pm

My job at the gym is great for people watching… There are some real weirdos out there!
Don’t forget sunscreen missy!!!

jess clark June 16, 2011 at 12:31 pm

what else could you possibly need while in california? that’s pretty much all i pack too. where are you guys going to be? also, i went to yogurtland for the first time yesterday, it was magical. by far the best yogurt place in provo/orem for sure! i was expecting to see you there but i didn’t, maybe next time :)

Lee @ in the pink of condition June 16, 2011 at 12:36 pm

hahahahaha you are the best! I am definitely the best at watching other people bake. Does that count?

Katherine @ Neon Blonde Runner June 16, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Seven weeks of vacay in California, hooray!! Hope Billy’s exams go well!

Rach @ Girl on the Run June 16, 2011 at 12:39 pm

I made homemade pizza the other night…but yours looks way more professional!

Megs June 16, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Hi Janae! I love your craziness but I’ve never commented before. Usually I never, ever comment on people’s bodies because I feel like it’s unnecessary, but I just wanted to say that ever since you took your healing break from running, you look so much healthier and even more gorgeous!

Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) June 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Did I read that right…a 7 WEEK vacation!?! Hot damn.

I am best at cooking with a second best at baking. :) Packing essentials for a warm place: bikini, cute cover up, flip flops, sunscreen and a great book.

Emily June 16, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Janae, I LOOOOVVVEEDD this post! I was laughing so hard! It’s great because I’ve been doing so many of those same things lately since I’m graduated but with no job (woohoo! ;)) and my husband works all day. At least we can find ways to keep ourselves entertained! :)

Cait's a Runnerchick June 16, 2011 at 1:07 pm

okay, so that pizza is looking WAY too good right now. that crust is what does it for me, looks nice and fat!

have a blast in CA, i grew up there, but in the boring sacto area. but the coast is amazing! and 7 weeks, my gosh, lucky girl!!

not gonna lie, people watching is good anywhere, but if u go to the right cities in CA u’re sure to strike gold regardless of the locale! oddly, supermarkets are pretty fun. especially watever the kids are up to. also bus stations, transit spots that are crowded.

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife June 16, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Packing essentials are workout clothes, makeup, cute shoes, good pjs, and snacks. And I love people watching at the gym and at parks!

I am the best at baking choc chip cookies, banana bread, and pumpkin bread. I can make a mean pizza too!

TheHugeredOne @ MovingandMunching June 16, 2011 at 2:09 pm

Oooh my goodness, I want pizza.

Come visit me in California! I would definitely pack some sandals, sunglasses, jacket (yeah the weather has been kind of weird…)… But of course, if the beach is too windy, we have waterparks too! My own packing essentials are always comfy shoes and dressy shoes, books, toiletries, and shampoo! The ones in hotels aren’t always very nice.

There are a BILLION frozen yogurt places out here; I think you’ll be in heaven. Beach and frozen yogurt? Yes, please.

Erica @tothehummingmeadow June 16, 2011 at 2:13 pm

CUH.RAY.ZEE. We’re going to Cali in 9 days!!!! Essenntials for ocean type trips–bathing suits and sunscreen and a buttload of sun dresses and shorts! I’m gonna start packing this weekend. I’m oh so excited! I bet you are too!
Psst. MUST try Pinkberry and In-N-Out. I except blog posts related to these 2 heaven’s on earth!

I’m great at making pretty much nothing. Oh..I do make a mean black bean soup. It’s a.w.e.s.o.m.e!

Sara Fiorenzo June 16, 2011 at 2:45 pm

Janae that pizza looks heavenly!

Jayme @ Runner-n-Spice June 16, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Shadow fight 2 Mod December 6, 2015 at 11:52 am

You can use – MPlayer OS X or – VLC Media Player to play MOD files on Mac.

We do see a couple minor glitches thus far, including
the crop mastery tallies being incorrect when planting new crops (only our second level mastery star was filled out for crops
we’ve mastered long ago). Check out the original source
at Cyanogen – Mod if you have any doubts or queries regarding the ROM.
