Triple Tangent Tuesday.

The workout this morning did not happen (you will see why in tangent one) but I did go for a 2 mile walk with my health class (I always find it funny to teach them about getting up and moving more when they are sitting in the desk so we walk around to different areas and then stop and talk about the benefits of exercise).   I did make Billy sign a paper that he has to help me get out the door to yoga tonight because I always feel so much better afterwards!!

——————————————————————————

1.  Boys once again you probably don’t want to read this tangent.

This is what it feels like to be a girl? Holy CRAP!?!

Good News best friends (hey, people asked to keep them updated after THIS POST) I hit puberty at the ripe old age of 25.

I want to rip my uterus out (and I think I have a pretty high tolerance…..180 miles of running on a femoral stress fracture…..or is that just stupidity, okay maybe both).

Stupid lessons in life I am learning…..I guess I will have more sympathy for my PE girls when they say they have ‘cramps’ instead of telling them to man up and run faster.

Photo on 2011 05 10 at 08 43 5

The only thing that sounds somewhat tolerable today is hot chocolate, a Hershey’s bar, and a loaf of french bread dipped into ranch.

Don’t feel bad for me because 8 Midol’s later and I am feeling back to myself again, except I will find a loaf of bread and ranch and I will eat it with a smile.

Guess what….I am INCREDIBLY thankful for this little monthly present.  What a HUGE BLESSING!!!

———————————————————————————————–

2.  I made my students put their coins together and search the entire car today for my .48 cent ice cream cone from the grocery store during drivers ed.  I may have even made them run into the store while I sat in the car timing them to see how long it would take them……if less than 2 minutes, they got an A in my class.  To bad it took them three minutes.

IMG 1080 52

It looked just like the one in this picture (plus approximately 32 ounces), a twist in a cake cone.  That is all I need to be happy, oh and my Billy:)

———————————————————————————————

3.  I am going to the doctor today to get an x-ray.  Um, is it weird that I start getting anxious and shakey hands just thinking about it.  I want to hear so badly that I should be good to go really soon and that my bones are healing wonderfully because of all the calcium from ice cream I am eating but at the same time I am scared to death to hear him give me a length of time that I am not going to like.

Does my hair look lighter?!?!  I got it done for free. You too can have a greenish tint to your hair for free by just going to the local Gold’s Gym and swimming in their 99% chlorine pool.

Photo on 2011 05 10 at 12 59

When I get anxious I pick at my split ends. It is a bad habit but I hate to admit that it is a fun game for me to find the most split ends on a single hair.  Should I tell you the record…..don’t think any less of me okay? Nine on one strand of hair.  Now that is talent people.

———————————————————————————

And just for fun……..

Photo on 2011 05 10 at 13 16

Can you guess how long have I had this Costco jar of peanut butter that has 42 servings (please note, Billy and I have separate jars)?  I have to use a knife to get the goods out because my hand can no longer reach the pb.

—————————————————————————–

TELL ME SOME TANGENTS ABOUT YOU!!!!!

Do you get cramps? What do you do to make them feel better?

-I am pretty sure that crawling into my bed after the doctor’s with a hot chocolate (Utah is still freezing) and season 5 of the Hills will make it all better.  That and a foot massage from Billy.

Do you have any nervous habits?

-Chewing gum and picking at my hair.

A use a heating pad for cramps. You can also buy little warm things that stick to the inside of your pants that I think help a lot. Feel better! Cramps are the pits, but I guess they are a good thing in a weird way. You can also try raspberry leaf tea.

My nervous habit is picking my cuticles. It's disgusting and I make myself bleed a lot. I'm a charmer.

I have a special spoon that is designed to extract PB from the bottoms of huge jars! Well, I don't know if it's made just for that, but it works perfectly :)

Reply

I bite my lip. Blech.. cramps.. but actually I hope I get them soon because I really don't want to be pregnant. Ha.

i am saying that PB jar was bought this past weekend. haha.

I pick at my fingers…it was better for a while but my stress and anxiety have been out the roof lately so it has been BAD. my fingers are all red :(

see you sooooooooon. (like tomorrow). I hope I can get up…2 days in a row at 5am!? that may be a record for me lately :) LOVE YOU.

I found 17 splits in a hair once. SEVENTEEN!

Reply

Tangents: I sometimes pick at my skin/nails and/or bite my nails….. it annoys the hubby. ha!

And yes, the special present every month is a GREAT thing!! I know this b/c of my past!

Reply

You just started the pill right? If this is the first period on the pill, it will probably be better next time. Not to rain on your parade, but taking the pill pretty much forces you to get a period, it doesn't mean your body is working correctly again. It does, however, mean that your calcium will get into your bones, yay!!! After a while (probably 9-12 months) it will start to replace what has been lost. Good luck!

You are so hilarious! So glad I found your blog. My nervous habit is biting my fingers until they bleed. My fingers look beautiful because of it and I never get manis, what's the point? :)

I cant find a summer job and I may become insane over here in OH. I dont usually get cramps, sorry if Im weird! Hah I bite my nails and play with my hair(which I cant do because it is like short as a boy)

Reply

Omg I have found nine split ends on one hair too. We are gross twins who need hair treatments.

Isn't in amazing how getting a little taste of someone else's discomfort can change one's whole perspective? lol I love that… "tell them to man up and run faster"! You sound like me! My kids all got the flu and I was not so sympathetic until I got it, too :P Great reminder :)

I hope you just keep feeling better and better! I use a hot water bottle or hot pack when I feel crampy. Chocolate and bread might actually not help… sorry, didn't want to tell you that… sneaking off now…

Nervous habit… gritting my teeth… not grinding… just clamping down pretty hard. I usually don't even notice I'm doing it until I get the headache.

Reply

4 liquid tablet Aleve work wonders for me. Cheaper than midol too.

Sorry about the cramps, they are lame, but good to see your body is coming back to the normal side.

Hope the xray showed good things!

Hey Janae! Long time reader, first time commenter here. Love, love, love you and your blog <3 and congrats on getting your "gift", although I hope you feel better soon. A heating pad and warm tea always worked for me, as well as some gentle stretching. Oh, and chocolate… lots and lots of chocolate :D

I love making my students do random things for me, like going to get me cookies at lunch, reorganize my shelves, sing songs to get out of detention. Whatever it takes to get through the day!

Reply

That is great news! I hope I can post the same great news on my blog one day soon :)

My nervous habits are twirling my hair and chewing pens.

Reply

I know you dont want to hear this but caffeine aka soda works wonders for cramps too. I used to get them so bad, when I actually got my period. Now I am on a shot and i don't get it at all. Down side to that though is exactly what you have mentioned, no calcium getting to the bones. The shot actually is known to cause bone loss. So I am going off it this month after being on it for 2.5 years.

Reply

No cramps here, but I get the runs during my period. So cool.

Nervous habit. Picking my lip. Picking scabs. Biting the inside of my cheep.

Reply

I didn't used to get cramps until I started the saw palmetto to attempt to combat the pizza face. Now they (the cramps, not the zits) wake me up in the middle of the night, they are that bad. Lasts about 6 hours or so. I don't understand my body – skin is better (ish), but I am getting slammed by cramps. However, if you are starting the pill (someone up in the comments mentioned that), probably will get better. Or it may mean you need a lower dose estrogen pill.

Nervous habit? Picking at my cuticles. Very bad. Especially if I have to squeeze lemons, then I am cursing the bad habit.

Reply

Luckily, I don't get cramps. UNLUCKILY, I do get really bad nausea. I don't know which is worse…

When I get bored I play with my hair. I keep trying to stop myself, especially in class, because I feel like I look like a ditz when I do it:/.

Congrats on getting your "gift" back!:)

Hope your xray went well!!!
I actually have my own pb jar here…..it even has a "g" on it!!! hahahahaha

I pick at my split ends all the time and my mom always yells at me!!! Haha not even a nervous habit, it's just fun to see how many I can find. I think my record is 4. You have me beat!!

Reply

I do the split ends thing too. It drives my mother crazy.

Reply

I get pretty awful cramps. A heating pad is a must when at home. And if I'm at work, I take as many breaks as possible to go walking up and down the stairwells. Exercise really does help.

Nervous habits? I used to bite my nails like nobody's business. From about second grade to age 25! When I was finally done with school I managed to quit, and now I am a nail polish addict because I've never had enough nail to paint before and it's such a novelty to me. I'm getting really good at doing french tips, which are my favorite. How's that for a tangent? :)

Good luck with the xray!

Reply

Sorry about the cramps! When I get crazy cramps, I resort to pain killers and lots of chocolate, preferably in rich cake form!!

Reply

Sorry you have cramps. They are the worst… although it's been so long since I've had to deal with them I almost don't remember what they feel like. I always liked the heating pad trick too. Good luck with your x-ray! Hopefully you will be up and running soon. I am planning on hitting the road in about 6 weeks and training for a 5K (do you even need training for a 3 mile race? I know I do!) in October. I'm having my baby on Friday unless he decides to come before that so hopefully you will be running again when I start running so I can get advice from you. Either way, you still inspire me to be healthy and exercise.

Every single month I ask my husband if he would kindly rip out my uterus. Oh the joys.

I used to have the worst cramps ever and would bleed like a stuck pig, but then found the wonder drug that is the BC. I know it does some weird stuff to people but was a life saver for me!
I used to bite my nails b/c I was a nervous wreck type-A person. I have since learned to chill out and have fun picking at my split ends as well. You got a niner?! Nice!! I don't think I know my record but that's a good one! :)

Reply

Ugh cramps suck!!!! My recommendation is a heating bean bag thingy. My friend makes them and it smells like lavendar. We heat it up for 3 minutes in the microwave and then cuddle with it. Makes a world of difference!!! Feel better!!! Hope the xray went well!

So happy for you Janae!! No pain was ever more welcome I bet? Your bones are loving all those hormones too :) Ok, I'm living somewhat vicariously thru you here cuz I don't have mine yet but I will welcome the cramps.

Girl!!! You MUST wear a swim cap when swimming to protect that beautiful hair (and prevent you from having to wash it!). I have been following your blog for some time but never commented since I am not nearly cool enough to have my own profile/URL/any form of ID to comment with but I couldn't not comment on this! (is it weird to call it groove?)

as far as bad habits? i bite my nails when i'm nervous or when i watch too much tee vee. it's the grossest habit ever. also i eat when i'm bored, growing up my dad would always yell "he's not in there" every time i went to the fridge- which was(um, is) often. :]

I am a pro when it comes to cramps–unfortunately. As soon as you feel them starting or even think they might start take two motrin (ibuprofen) and drink some coke (super important, you want the caffeine). (Side note: my sister and I both get cramps really bad and we joke that we keep a huge stash of coke in our food storage just for this purpose) The sooner you take the medicine the faster it will work and the less pain you will have to feel. I've got it timed down to about 20 minutes of pain if I take the ibuprofen and coke right away. I told you I'm a pro! Also make sure you have something in your stomach cause ibuprofen on an empty stomach is a bad idea. If the above isn't working (or not fast enough) then definitely a hot pad. HTH!
Oh and like previous posts have said, birth control made my cramps a lot better too most of the time.

Reply

Heating pads are a lifesaver!!! When I have cramps I have that heating pad basically glued to me whenever I'm home. I've considered taking it to work too! I bite my nails!

yea for cramps, I mean that in the nicest way too. haha. Midol works like a charm, so does wine…..for me at least. tee-hee!

Hey Janae!! I'm thinking of you today! I hope the doctor appt brings some good news. You're recovering well and taking care of your body, so I have no doubt that you'll be running again soon.

Cramps Suck!! Seriously! I just kind of die and not want to do anything the first day, but I usually try to workout and drink lots of water because I know they both help!!!
***HONESTLY though I tell my self that the cramps are a good thing because it's my body's way of preparing for having a baby someday, and that gets me through!

I may have the split end record….18! I also have that bad habit, and it drives my dad insane. I tend to do it when I'm bored, or when I'm sitting in class and would rather not be paying attention!

Cramps mean I take aleve and take a long hot bubble bath. Then bed. Good luck sista!

Yayyy Janae I'm so glad you're becoming a girl again! Good for you, you've been trying and now it's working! When I feel crampy and gross (today actually… we're related) I just let myself give into every craving I have and I take 100 ibuprofens. Also stretching when I can, it feels good. The craving thing isn't different from every other day I guess… haha.

Sometimes I get cramps, last year I went off my birth control for about 3 months and I got the worst cramps ever, I was doubled over! I was eating Midol like it was candy to cure those suckers!

I have a heating pad that is my best friend once a month. It's seems old school, in that my Gramma is the one who passed it down to me (not the one I have now…I upgraded to a new one that actually has settings and won't set my bed on fire a couple years ago), but I couldn't survive without it.

Annnd I also pick my split ends. I just can't help myself sometimes.

What great news! My split end record is 14!!!

Okay I am really so sorry that I have not been able to comment recently but I promise I have been reading every single post. Am I a weirdo stalker or is your wedding ring on your right hand in that pic? Also I have a perfect cure for cramps but it's not quite PG rated. Just to make me sound more weird. This post has some good reasons to teach high school (aka making kids bring you ice cream). Today I went to a speed workout with a new running group and when I passed my husband on the track I ran up and slapped his butt. Then I realized there was no way for people to know we were married since I don't wear rings while I run and we were chatting with different people when we got there. Way to not make friends in this new group.

Reply

When it comes to cramps I used to have them real bad in hs, my doctor suggested taking 2 motrin before bed, and 2 when you wake up (before the day you are expected to get it- obv for you, you didnt know) but maybe in preping for next time?

Reply

I wish they could load endorphins in Midol for you.
Alas, though, congrats!
When I get anxious I twirl my hair…it makes it twirly. Maybe that is because all the chlorine.
I one swam in a "poison pool" for like a month before the health department shut it down. All the hair on my body fell off, my head hair was ravaged and at one point it made my skin bleed. I still swam (exercise addict anyone?)

PS- I'd go back to high school for a day if I could sit in on your class.

I hope the news from the dr is exactly what you wanted to hear! I have had five kids and I still suffer from cramps! I feel for you they are horrible!

After going on BC I NEVER get cramps. Ever.

And I chew gum like it's my job…..

PS I love your sunglasses in the ice cream pic!

Reply

Yay for the monthly gift! Despite the discomfort, that makes me happy for you, sweet friend. I used to get the worst cramps ever, but not too much lately. That's good news for you! Maybe the older you get, the less cramps? I got home from work today and wasn't hungry for dinner because I ate my 2nd lunch at like 5:00PM so I proceeded to eat an obscene amount of almond butter, 2 apples and a banana. Just listening to my body! :)

You know, I *never* have had low low body fat (I'm thin, but not skinny), but when I run a lot I lose my period, too. I think there is more to it than just body fat percentage. Here is my old post on this: http://complicatedday.blogspot.com/2011/01/does-long-distance-running-change-your.html

Cramps for me would be an understatement. I'm pretty sure there's stuff going on that I don't want to know about in there. Like a party or a fire… I hope you feel better soon.

A few years ago I had to take medication to force a period, and was in so much pain that I went to the ER. I could barely move, so I feel for you! Just be grateful that your period came. Definitely a blessing in disguise sometimes.

I totally do the split ends picking and I no longer have a uterus but when I did…at the ripe old age of 10 I had some MEAN cramps! Like lay in bed for 2 days cramps and LONG visits from 'Aunt Flow' every month….just wasn't fair. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore.

Thankfully, I don't cramp too badly. But I don't want to say it too soon, because I'm still 19 and who knows what my body will do to me down the line!

I used to pick my spit ends all the time, and it was SO MUCH FUN. But I've started cutting my hair more often. RIP split ends :(

French Bread with ranch sounds good to me, I like eating weird things too as you very well know :)

The pool at my gym (check out the photos in this post: http://neonblonderunner.blogspot.com/2011/05/cary-street-gym.html#comments) is salt walter!

If only I actually used the pool as much as I talked about it. Swimming is my weak link.

I get so nervous about doctor stuff too, I remember going to appts about my pelvic stress fracture and feeling shaky.

Oh goodness, glad to hear you are back on schedule! But boo for cramps.

Why didn't I have any fun teachers like you in HS?!?

When I'm bored I find split ends all the time. Especially when my hair was longer.

I haaaate cramps! Usually some ibuprofen and a heating pad get rid of them for me. And a whole lotta cursing. :-P

I still bite my nails. Not as bad as I used to, but it's still there.

i get INSANE cramps. all through school i used to have to miss days because i was in so much pain. heating pads, fetel position, bananas and midol help. avoid caffeine (even though some people say it makes it hurt less?). and lots of t.v. :)

I love finding split ends and picking em… it's always fun to find a strand that's split all the way up, or just has a random split halfway up.

Cramps, okay, this may sound weird, but I get them and I don't know if they're PMS related… but they hurt! Ibuprofen is my friend.

I do not have cramps. I get backaches and can I say just one thing…your experiencing a preview to labor.

I have no bad habits. You know that. Oh, minus pb and jam in the fridge. And watching Alias 24/7 like a slug who doesn't open the curtains. And leaving hair all over the bathroom…maybe I should stop.

I haaaaaate being female about once a month…I've never had problems missing a period (as in…I've 100% regular since my first when I was 12…give a girl a break! ha), so it's a monthly issue. :) But really, it's anywhere from 2-6 hours of me feeling like I'm going to vomit and my uterus feels like it's trying to come out of my stomach. This didn't start until a few years ago…I always wondered why people complained so much until one day I woke up and wanted to die. Men have no idea…

I don't get my period at the moment (low body fat) but when it returns I'm sure I'll be commiserating with you! feel better soon. try a heating pack!

yay! i'm glad you finally got your monthly present back :) ironic that it happened so soon after your post about it.

for cramps, i find the best thing is heat. a heat pad works great for me.

my nervous habits are chewing on the inside of my mouth (gross, i know) and picking at my nails.

i pick at my split ends when i'm anxious too!! its gotten a little out of control…a couple months ago i was taking the GRE and i was super nervous and halfway through the test i realized i was paying more attention to my hair than the test questions! ha that is not the way to do well on a test!

love you love for peanut butter! i am a psycho for nut butters (esp peanut and almond) and can't go one day without at least 2 servings. yum!

i get horrific cramps- pretty much always have although they got better briefly and have now come back with a vengeance.

when speaking my nervous habit is the horrible "um"–not sure what my other habits are–will have to ask the husband.

No swim cap?? They ain't pretty, but they'll keep your hair from going crazy colors. Or smelling like bleach — my other favorite pool benefit.

A little late to the party – but I just wanted to say I know [almost] exactly how you feel getting slammed with cramps! I spent about six years on hormonal BC and didn't experience anything but minor discomfort from cramps. About three years ago I switched over to a non-hormonal IUD (Paragard) and holy heck! I thought I was dieing!

I talked to my Dr about it and she suggested I take 200-500mg of ibuprofen the day or two leading up to my period. This helps. It is weird, but it does. I think just having the ibuprofen in my system in advance helps out! I'm also a firm believer in putting ibuprofen to good use during my monthly visit (the Dr says I can take up to 800mg at a time…!). I swear it helps!

Just my personal experience and what my Dr told ME, but I thought I'd share…good luck getting used to the wonders of womanhood! ;)

Reply

You have plenty of advice but here are my two cents for cramps. I've always had them, and I always feel like I have the stomach flu. :(

I take advil. I also can't stand the heat, so I use a cold water bottle on the outside of my shirt held against my stomach, while curled in a sad, useless ball on the couch, rocking back and forth till it dies down. Sounds fun, huh?

I've heard that being on all fours helps – letting your uterus move forward (so maybe some easy yoga stretches?). Good luck!

Reply

I do get cramps. I don't do anything about them, I don't take asprin I just am really grouchy.

I laugh when I'm nervous. Just random giggles that make me seem crazy.

Reply

I totally thought of you today (and this post) when I found 10 split ends on one hair! I was super excited (yet super grossed out), but I see others have found even more than that–crazy!!
