Ice Cream Cake Cupcake

Sorry team but this post may be a little shorter than my normal eight page ramble.  I was an incredibly good wife and went and cheered on B-mister at his baseballs games.  We got home at 10:47 and I am just now writing my post (I am usually in my 3rd cycle of REM by now and I WILL be waking up for early morning pump……last one before it is cancelled at my gym).

I wanted to start things off by making you drool.  A student brought in this cupcake from her sister’s bakery.  This would be an ice cream cake cupcake.  The icing tasted just like mint chocolate chip ice cream but it wasn’t.  It took me off guard but I ended up licking the crumbs off of my desk (I desperately wish I was kidding, and I know you are all picturing me do it as we speak), so I guess it was a winner.  I asked my student why she didn’t bring this to me at the begining of the year because it would have guaranteed her an automatic A if she had.

After a faculty party (those Utah valley teachers sure know how to have a good time) we went over to the parentals because these kids really can’t live without me. Seriously, they can’t.  Don’t even question it.

IMG 6289

Steak potatoes, green beans and rolls.  If you remember from this post, my dad is on his journey to a healthier lifestyle, he has lost 19 lbs now.  This is quite a common dinner (they switch up between chicken and salads too) for them these days and I am not complaining (He skips the rolls and potatoes, my mom makes those especially for her carb loving daughters).

IMG 6294

And for dessert…..French Vanilla hot chocolate made with milk.  Billy’s games were FREEZING and I needed something HOT to keep me from sneaking into the snack shack and sitting by the heater and stealing all of their Skittles during the game.

Billy helped my sister upload books for her Nook.  She reads at least 2 books a week and I posted this picture for your opinion on Nooking…..(PS I hate that Barne’s and Noble called their eReader a nook….just sounds iffy to me).

Do you use a kindle/nook/iPad to read?  Do you think you will?  What is your favorite genre of reading? What are you reading right now?

-I LOVE reading off of the iPad, except when I am outside it is a little harder to read but still doable.  Remember, I now have three months of nothingness….book recommendations are welcomed with open arms.

Who cooked more in your home growing up….your mom or your dad?  What about now?

-Mom cooks and dad makes a killer grilled cheese, stack of pancakes and knows his way around the BBQ.  Billy is a WAY better cook (I am a better baker) but he just got me some new kitchen tools so that I can start my very own culinary arts school in my kitchen:)  Expect a lot of good recipes people!

I LOVE my Kindle! I love that it's not backlit, so my eyes never get tired. I was skeptical at first, but now I couldn't live without it. It makes getting books on a whim so easy! I have many running, healthy living, and chicklit books waiting for me on mine!

I have a nook and I love it because I can check out books online from the library for free to read on it. The name is weird, though, you're right.

Growing up my mom cooked more, but apparently my dad taught her how to cook when they first got married. Crazy.

that cupcake looks so good!!
I'm still reading good old fashioned books. With actual pages! haha I just finished reading How Did you Get This Number by Sloane Crosley. I recommend it! Super funny!
My Mom was always the cook but, like you, my Dad makes the best grilled cheese!!! Oh and perfect hot chocolate he is a chocolate master!

I JUSt got a Kindle for my birthday this past weekend and I'm just now getting used to it. I love that I can read it easily outdoors, I just have a problem deciding what to read! I think my problem now will be that it's TOO EASY to buy a book. Goodbye paychecks!

I'm looking for some recommendations too, so please post what you're reading!

Yep……I reckon your student should have presented that cupcake to you right at the beginning – As all round!! :-) I put the kindle app on my iPhone and read free stuff (Like Pride and Prejudice) while at the gym :-)

I adore books, and was very surprised to find that I like the kindle.

I just read an incredible book–The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet. I would definitely suggest it.

Boo to bodypump being cancelled.

Holy cow that cupcake looks phenomenal!

I love non-fiction. I usually "read" cookbooks and health or lifestyle books. I just finished "Crazy Sexy DIet" by Kris Carr, a MUST READ for anyone interested in their health and well-being!

My mom was definitely the cook of the house. Once I went to college and got into cooking, I am now the cook of the house! I menu plan our holiday meals, my mom loves it though, it gives her a nice break! :)

ooo I love to read…when I have the time. Last year I was unemployed so I read a lot. I have a ton of recommendations. The Hunger Games, it's a quick easy read, it's a series and they are filming the movie now. I love to read a book and then see the movie. THe girl with the dragon tattoo series is good but the first book took me a while to get into, lots of characters to introduce.
Graceling is another good book that I read and there is a second book that goes with it but I can't remember the name right now.
Right now I am reading the Eragon series, someone gave me the books but I am really not that into them I am just reading them just because.
Seriously, read the Hunger Games if you have not already.
Oh and I don't have a kindle or nook or whatever. Hoping to get an Ipad soon and read off that. I do download books to by laptop to read at work (hope my boss never sees that lol)

I have an ipad and when I first go it I thought for sure I would use it to read off of but I have so many regular books sitting on my shelf waiting to be read first that I haven't gotten around to it… I want to though.

I am in love with my Kindle. If I could read 24/7 I would. The kindle makes it so easy, and as long as I have WiFi I am never far away from new books. Plus, you can't beat all of the space it's saving me now that I'm not buying books and filling the house with them.

Growing up my mom always cooked. I don't think my dad really could beyond pancakes.

That cupcake. It will haunt me in my dreams. Just saying…

I have a Kindle. It was seriously the best present I've ever gotten and I'm literally attached to the thing. I carry it everywhere just in case I have a few minutes to read. I love that your sis is a super reader too! I also like that I can read the Kindle anywhere without hurting my eyeballs, I'm super blind as it is.

Currently reading The Historian, and finished a bunch of books like The Life of Pi, The Pre-nup, The Help, Little Bee, and the Hangmans Daughter! All great reads!

My mama was the cook growing up. She's still the cook now! Win for me!

Love my kindle :) I love to read novels the most.

Both my parents cook fairly equally.

Your cupcake is epic. Oh my goodness.

Love my Kindle but we also have books on our iPad so my husband and I can read at the same time.

My mom cooked most and now it's about equal between my husband and I. Trying to change it to more me but it takes time!

I love the look of the Nook.. I don't have one yet. I must admit I like the feel of real books.

That cupcake looks amazing!!

I don't have any sort of e-reader unfortunately. I just borrow books from people haha ;)

Both of my parents cook but my mom more so than my dad. I cook and bake, and my boyfriend LOVES to cook, which is a huge huge huge plus! :)

That cupcake need to be mine! Delicious looking, I can taste it!

I lovee my Kindle. I just wish I had more time to read during school.

I just finished up with "Something Borrowed" and really enjoyed it. Otherwise Picoult's "House Rules" is a phenomenal book I thought! & Im dying to read Kara Goucher's book…!

Oh my goodness, that cupcakes looks to die for!

My dad does ALL the cooking in my house:). My mom has a few signature dishes, but otherwise my dad does all the cooking and grocery shopping:). My mom is a teacher and gets home earlier than him, so she often mows the lawn! I love it:).

I like the idea of reading on an iPad/Pod/Nook Book/etc, but then I get sad because I don't have the hard copy of the boo:(.

PS, speaking of books, I am giving away a copy of Dean Karnazes' new book! You should come enter!!:)

Reply

I have a nook and I love it. Plus, there is no glare so that helps! There are so many good books out (eh hem, Kara Goucher…duh) but I recommend going to Goodreads.com to always have new suggestions :)

The best book I've read in a while is "Atonement" by Ian McEwan. It took me a little while to get into it, but once I did,I couldn't put it down. It's beautifully written and a beautiful story.

get out of town with that ice cream cake cupcake. looks amazing! The only thing I read now-a-days are blogs, but I did just order the "run less, run faster" book!

I've been eyeing the Kindle, and one day will cave and buy it. For some reason I love the feeling of holding an actual book in my hand, and don't want to give that up just yet. One day..

I'm sorry. I didn't get to read the rest of your post because my keyboard malfunctioned from the drool. A-freakin-men.

Ice cream cupcake? GENIUS!How have I not thought of this before?

I don't use the Kindle or nook. I like the tangible quality of a paperback book. Call me old fashioned…

My mother definitely cooked more. But my father is an excellent dishes washer

I'm not a huge book reader, but I'm working through a few health-related books right now. Interesting stuff! And that cupcake looks amazing!

I would like a kindle/nook at some point because they just seem so convenient, but I love reading actual books & sharing them with friends/family. I just finished Kara's book (LOVE), and all the books I've been reading the past few days are barnyard animal books to my 2 year old cousin.

WOW! your dad is amazing! 19 lbs is awesome!

that cupcake looks like the most amazing thing ever in my life. I need to find this place and buy that cupcake and eat every crumb immediately.

reading on the ipad is the new cool thing to do…much easier than carrying around a book and it saves my page for me…LOVE THAT. I am always forgetting what page I stopped on…haha!

Have an amazing weekend…so jealous you are getting away for a bit but you totally deserve it!! YAY for summer!

I want to eat that cupcake right now!!!!

mmmm that cupcake looks delicious. I Must find out where that bakery is right this second.

Your arms look so long in that picture with your neice and nephew! Your family is so cute and I want to hang out with them.

I cannot even read a computer screen so I am pretty sure I would hate the nook, ipad, ect. I am a 90 year old in a 25 year old body and will stick with the reading glasses and a big old book. ha! Love you and have so much fun this weekend.

I have the original version of the Kindle because my aunt got it at work (seriously?) before they got huge. So I definitely scored on that one! They used to sell for $600! haha ohhh technology…

i just use regular ol' books to read. right now i'm reading eat pray love by elizabeth gilbert!

and as long as i can remember my mama's always done the cooking – sometimes i'll cook too, or help my dad out in the kitchen, but it's generally my mom. i've started to do the meal planning!

I just spent about 6 minutes glaring at that cupcake in hopes it would jump out of my computer and into my mouth.

It didn't happen.

have you had the ice cream cupcakes from Cold Stone? So. Good.

I read regular ol' books from the library. I am too cheap to a. get a kindle and b. purchase books from online when I could borrow them for free!

I would love your recipes!

For some reason I just can't get into the Kindle, must be the teacher in me but I just like to read straight from the source. I love cheezy romantic novels and my fav author is Kristen Hannah. Right now I am reading a book by Lauren Conrad.
Dinner wise my Mom always cooked the potatoes and side dishes while my Dad dealt with the meat. Kinda the same now when it comes to Craig and I, he always grills and I make the side dishes.

i'm reading the Help and love it! thinking about getting a kindle…we'll see :)

I have a book rec for you! I just finished The Perfect Mile, by Neal Bascombe which is the story of the 3 20-something men in the 1950s who were trying to break the 4-minute mile for the first time in history — Roger Bannister (British), John Landy (Australian), and Wes Santee (American). I was SO inspired by how insanely hard they worked and how intense their hunger was to achieve their goals. They taught their bodies to withstand extreme amounts of pain and exertion. The book took me a little longer because I tend to read non-fiction slower, but I really loved it and am so glad to know this important part of running history now! If you read it, make sure you get on YouTube and watch Bannister run the 4-minute mile at the Iffley Road Track in Oxford when you're done. It's magical to get to watch him after reading so much about him. :)

I cant wait to have a Utah friend here and play lots! Hope you still want to! :)
I have still been reading and it looks like your doing great, considering your leg! I also have been thinking about your papa, I am so happy to hear he is doing better!

that cupcake looks AMAZING and i want one now!

congrats to your dad for continuing his healthy habits! i'd have a hard time resisting potatoes and rolls if everyone else were eating them! :)

My mom was the oldest kid in her large family, so she had to learn to cook at a young age. My dad can grill and make eggs and pancakes, but that's it. And even those aren't perfect. I know, for a fact, that all my skills came from my mom!

Even though I spend so much time on the comp, I just can't get on board with reading books on an e-reader. I love physical books, and turning the pages, and cuddling up with a book somewhere. I'm old fashioned I guess! My mom cooked WAY more growing up, dad had one or 2 signature dishes and then barbequed meat–that was it!

I just got an iPad and love reading books on it! Especially at night when hubs is sleeping & I want to read. No extra book light needed!

Your cupcake post makes me think of my oldest daughter's new hobby- cupcake designing! So far she has made cupcakes that look like ducks, apples and Chinese takeout noodles. They are almost too cute to eat, almost.

Books I've read lately and couldn't put down are: The Help, Peace Like A River, The Hiding Place and Room.

I am reading Kara Goucher's book on my Nook right now! I have always been a huge reader, so when I first got my Nook as a gift, I didn't read it very much because I wanted to hold the book, smell the pages, etc. (I know I'm a freak, I just accept it now). However, I now LOVE my Nook and I read all the time on it!

Thanks for the birthday/well wishes! I love Stephens Vanilla Hot Chocolate! It makes dreams come true. :)

I've been reluctant to jump on board the eReader train. I love to have books and stare at them in my pretty book shelf.

Have you read the Hunger Games? A Great and Terrible Beauty, Fablehaven, HushHush…and that's all I think of right now. All young adult novels, but they're good!

Ice cream in cupcake form is something I need to try! I'll just need an extra scoop of ice cream on the side :)

Congrats to your dad! Definitely progress to be proud of.

I went for a long time without reading a non-school book. I think it has to do with me associating books with hell in a classroom… But now I'm trying to get back into reading for pleasure. I want to try the Kindle, since it'd be a much smaller dent in my pocket if I could buy Kindle books. But we'll see!

I've noticed mention many times that you're a Mormon. Tbh, first I thought you were joking :D y'know, the vegas post waay back.

I'd LOVE if you told a little about your religious vackground and Mormon life!! Maybe in a post? If you'd like!

Sorry for the typos, my _ANDROID_ phone won't let me correct them :(

* noticed you MENTION being a Mormon… i loathe this phone deeply now :D

Anyways, happy summer and think about my suggestion!

My kindle is one of my most prized possessions. I absolutely adore it. I love the fact that there are so many classics for free. The kindle is great when I am outdoors and is super easy to travel with. Currently I am reading Eclipse by Stephanie Myers. I thought I would never read the Twilight series, but you know :)

I do however still love to read a paperback once in a while because I miss the feel of a real book.

I LOVE my Nook. I tend to read trashy stuff like Nora Roberts, so my suggestions are usually worthless.

My mom cooked and my dad bbq'ed. Dad also was in charge of weekend breakfast.

My husband is the better cook of us, but I'm getting better. I realized I actually like to cook. It's fun, as long as my kiddos aren't hanging on my leg.

I LOVE my Nook. It's especially great for travel and to stuff in my purse because I read so fast. I'm thinking about getting an iPad, but I don't know that I'll read full length books on it because the LCD hurts my eyes. I do want the new Nook, though, it looks fab.

I think my favorite books I've read in the past year were The Hunger Games and Shades of Grey (Jasper FForde). Bossypants by Tina Fey is hilarious so far. As for running books, I loved Bart Yasso's book and what I've read of Ultramarathon Man (Dean Karnazes) has been good. I know Water for Elephants has been really popular because of the movie and I loved it (and her second book Ape House was good). I could probably come up with a 50 book list if you gave me some time and room. Maybe I'll try to do a blog post on books soon. I love books, can you tell?
