Ice Cream Heals Bones.

I made the decision about Boston……I won’t be coming out this year and I am TRULY sorry to everyone that I made plans with to meet…I PROMISE I will next year (unless I have died from drowning my internal organs with fro-yo.)  Top reasons I decided against going: crying 4 times an hour,  my leg really hurting when I walk and Billy no longer being able to come to Boston (a professor wouldn’t let him reschedule his final).

I think it is best for me to stay at home and play with my nieces, work on eating my way through my candy stash, read my brains out about running and catch up on The Biggest Loser.

I am registering for New York.  Plane tickets transferred.  Watch out NYC…..hungryrunnergirl will be pounding the pavement without a limp and not only breaking world records in regards to running but also breaking records for eating at every pizzeria in the city within 72 hours.   Anyone know how to fast forward to November?!?!

——————————————————————————–

Let’s talk about yesterday.  I am the kind of person that once I get out and about and turn into the usual social butterfly that I am, I feel a lot better. Either that or my veins had pure cream and sprinkles running through them.

How can you be sad when you are eating sprinkles/gummy bears/fruit on fro-yo.  Try it……it is like trying to sneeze with your eyes open, it just can’t happen.

IMG 5285

I met one of my best friends from high school……I am going to miss this girl, she is moving to California in just a few weeks.   Don’t ask me why we chose to have our picture taken in front of an old abandoned store.  Maybe we just wanted to pop out of the picture and not have your eyes wondering onto something scenic.

IMG 5289

Then it was off to the mall with mis madre.  And yes, Nordstrom does solve all of your problems.  We would shop for a few minutes and then sit down on the couches and talk for 30 minutes and then move to another department and repeat.  Retail therapy at its finest.

Coldstone was just too close to Nordstrom to pass up and doctor’s orders are that I need to up my calcium, gosh this is going to be hard.   Yes, I did have gummy bears once again (I am doing my own research on how the gummy bear’s little bones may in fact collect together and latch onto my femur for faster healing).

IMG 5290

I came home and read through all of the comments and emails and they made me cry (happy tears) because so many of you have been through or are currently going through what I am going through, everyone showed so much support and had a ton of GREAT advice for me.  Billy will be sending you your ‘thanks for being Janae’s friend’ checks in the mail shortly……just don’t try to cash them for a few months, I mean we did just buy ipads and the checks will probably bounce.

Billy was all responsible and stuff and went to a review session for his Biology final while I went and met the fam for dinner.

I got a turkey and avocado sandwich on foccacia bread and I decided to be the amazing wife that I am and saved half for Billster to eat for dinner.   P.S. all bread should be at least three inches thick and baked with cheese on top.

IMG 5291

Don’t think I am that great because I didn’t even attempt to save half of this sucker for him….I need to work on that whole sharing thing.

I think it is a napolean or something…..I just told the cashier to give me whatever they had with the highest amount of sugar content asap, they had to check my id to make sure I could handle this, little do they know that I was born to be a competitive dessert eater (don’t worry I will be focusing on proper nutrition to heal and make my comeback but I just didn’t care yesterday:)

IMG 5296

Some of the group.  My mom, me, my cousin James (visiting from N. Cali) and my oldest brother (I promise I am his favorite sister and that deep down he is ecstatic to be on the blog).

IMG 5298

I finished the night off by staying up late with b-dawg watching tv because you better believe I am going to find the positive during this non-running time………..PARTY time because I don’t have to wake up early to run:)  I have my whole life ahead of me to get up at 4:45 a.m. to hang out with my treadmill.

You are great Janae! And if you are coming to New York, I will come and cheer you on! Blogger meet-up?!?! Yeah, I'd come into New York just for that!

I am a little shorty. 5'1" to be exact. I wear heals every day, all day long. Even at the gym. (That might be a stretch of the truth).

Age difference between myself and my youngest sister is exactly 7 years :) She was born on my birthday!

So glad you're feeling better! I know your leg will heal up soon! :D
I'm 5'3….which is sad….especially now that my younger sister is taller than me. :P She's 3 years younger than me, by the way. Now she looks older….boo.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed your ice cream treats! They look awesome!!! :D

Yay! I'm so glad you'll be doing NYC! I will absolutely be out there cheering you on as you dominate the race. You made the right decision about Boston, even if it hurts and it wasn't easy. November is right around the corner!

A day dominated by ice cream: sounds like an excellent day to me!

Hooray for NYC!

I have faith in your strength and in your ability to rise above the adversity and thrive. And I know you are going to ROCK New York!!! Saying a prayer for your fast healing!!!

Yum you are going to have fun getting in all that extra calcium. When my femur was healing, I ate so much gelato and greek yogurt, should have added some gummy bears!

WOO HOO about New York! You are going to do awesome at that race! Kara watch out!

My hardest class was economics. I just couldnt pay attention!

Any pastry that has frosting on it is my favorite pastry :)

I am 5'3.5'' and what's funny is NO ONE believes me! Everyone thinks I am at least 5'7''. I've had people argue with me about my height.

I'm 25 and my youngest cousin is 16. We are all girls and all separated by exactly 3 years!

Almond croissants are the best pastry to ever make an appearance on the earth. There is this bakery in Chicago that has the most amazing ones I have ever tasted and I have dreams about those suckers…and now I want one!

Reply

I'm so hungry seeing all that food! Delicious!

You sound like you've got the right midset and are feeling positive. You really will kill NYC!

My hardest class in college was probably statistics. I took it before I realized I wanted to major in English instead.

I'm 5'8", so you and I are pretty well matched in height and giant shoe size!

Reply

Go New York!

Reply

You are awesome with such a positive attitude! I live in NYC so I'll definitely cheer you on! Oh, and we're the same height! I never would have guessed it since you look so petite!

Reply

I am 5'2" and as you probably guessed shorter than most my friends!

There is 9 years difference between me and my youngest brother, I am the oldest.

Good choice to switch the plans tic to NY you will rock it!

Reply

OMG, the science requirement. I took Zoology and failed (lack of effort was involved), so then I took Botany (studied my ars off and squeeked by with a C).

I'm a shortie at 5'2"… I don't mind being short, I just want the skinny to go with it! Man, to eat what you do would be nice!! My brothers and I are all 3 years apart.

I've never fantasized about Boston, but NY… now THAT race seems like one I'd want to run! If you haven't yet, read the book "A Race Like No Other" by Liz Robbins… the whole book is about the NY Marathon and is really good!

Reply

You sound so much better already. Kudos to you for putting a good spin on it.

BTW–I had a stress fracture a thousand yrs. ago and I took in lots of tums to up my calcium intake. It's a habit I still keep up–two tums at bedtime just as a little insurance policy.

Reply

You know what would be a really fun follow-up to NY? Philly a few weeks later! All the cool kids are doing it ;-)

Reply

Janae- Your positivity is contagious! I hope you heal SO fast and I know you will rock NYC. You are being so smart and responsible as hard as it is. You will be thanking yourself later when you are under a 3-hour marathon and feeling like you could go another 26.2!

Reply

So glad you're feeling better!

My hardest college class was Differential Equations – I actually didn't finish the course!

There is 19 years between my olderst sister and me.

Reply

I'm glad getting out there and being around people made you feel better! I have a bad habit of isolating when I'm feeling bad, and it never helps.

I'm so short (5'2"), but I totally embrace it. I ALWAYS wear flats (well, flip flops ;), and feel weird if I'm ever taller than someone else.

Reply

Are you really 5'8"??? I always picture you as 5'2"!!!

Personally, I am 5'5".

Reply

So sorry about Boston hun! I know you'll rock it someday! Congrats on NYC, how did you get in?? It is such an awesome race, I can't wait to run it someday!

hardest class? environmental issues and marine science. i think my professors were the devil in disguise.

my fav pastry? apple turnovers. topped with ice cream of course.

I'm 5'6"…almost. so so so so close.

and my brothers (twins) are 2.5 years younger than me, but we vary on maturity in various areas…like one of them? he's is the greatest relationship guru to walk this planet. no joke.

Reply

What was/is your hardest class in college?

-Economics. I could not for the life of me get interested in economics. It's the reason I decided not to get my business minor.

What is your FAVORITE pastry?

-cheese danishes. I always eat around the edges and save the cream cheese center for last!

How tall are you? Are you taller or shorter than most of your friends?

-I am 5' and 1/4 of an inch. I am a midget.

What is the age difference between the youngest and oldest in your family?

-My youngest sister is 11 years younger and my oldest sister is 3.5 years older. I have a lot of the "youngest sibling" tendencies though (i.e. loud) because my younger sister is a half sister and was born so long after me.

Reply

Hang in there girl, you be brand new before you know it

I'm only 5'3"..and almost 4 yrs younger than my sister. Hmm I should have gone out to eat when I got my SF news!

I'm thinking of you and praying!

So sorry to hear about Boston! I have heard that NYC is an amazing marathon and should be on everyone's marathon bucket list so that will still be awesome for you!!

Reply

You're so inspiring Janae. I just know you will come through this stronger than ever.

And I'm so jealous of all the fro-yo options in your area. I've been dying to try this stuff, but sadly the midwest has not caught on to this brilliance yet.

My hardest class in college was probably Shakespeare. I was a science major and that was just so different from what I was used to.

This is funny because my bf and I just measured each other yesterday! Mainly to make sure we hadn't shrunk in our old age. I'm 5'11.5". I used to be really self-conscious about it and would feel like a total troll if I ever wore heels. But now I embrace it! Heels all the way!

There is a 5 year age difference between the oldest and youngest in my family, with 4 of us squeezed in there. Don't know how my mom survived!

Reply

I'm so glad you treated yourself yesterday! Good for you! I put in for the NYC Marathon lottery, so hopefully I will be there w/ you (running a heck of a lot slower though).

Math. I hate it. I now work in Accounting. Go figure.

I love all pastries. Brownies w/ chocolate chips and cannolis are my fav.

I'm 5 ft. 6 1/2 inches. Can't we just say I'm 5'7"? Instead I say 5'6" for some reason.

I'm the youngest. I have two sisters who are eight and ten years older than me.

Reply

Great attitude Janae! You look AWESOME in that picture with your friend!! Hotness- Lucky Billy:)

Hardest class-calc. I hate math.

Favorite Pastry-are Krispy Kremes pastries??

Height- 5'8.5. I'm taller than most of my friends and nearly the same height as my husband. My sister is 5'10 and our mom is 5'3. We're cornfed…..

Age difference-11 years. I'm the oldest of 6 girls.

Have a great day girl! YAY for NYC! You are gonna ROCK it!

Well hopefully you will be feeling better soon. Having had a stress fracture before I know how painful it can be. Now it hurts right before the rain comes. I'm a built in weather forecaster. Hardest class in college was Art 101….it was drawing and it sucked. 3 hour class 2 x's a week. Favorite pastry is an apple fritter. I am 5'4 short. My Brother is 38 and my other brother is 20. 18 years!! Between them is me 25 and my sissy 33!

Reply

My hardest class was by far Chemistry, I was really lucky my boyfriend was in it with me! I'm 5'5.75 so I round up to 5'6. I'm actually taller than most of my friends, I guess I choose short friends? I'm the oldest in my family and there is 8 years between me and my little brother. Maturity wise though I'm way older than my 21 years and my brother is only 13 but he acts 5.

Favorite pastry? I haven't met a pastry I don't like. I love cream puffs and croissants drizzled with chocolate.
I'm about 5'2". Smaller than most (all?) of my friends. I blame my slow running on short legs. ; )
I wish we had somewhere good to get fro-yo here. That looks yummo!

Oh wow! You're positivity is fantastic! I think you made the right decision- even if you are the world's best cheerleader, I think cheering at Boston when you know you should be RUNNING at boston would be tough. AND New York is supposed to be an incredible race! Can't wait to see how you do!

Oh man…I'll say "Circuits in Biomedical Devices". Math/Physics/Electrical nightmare. Bahhhh.

PILLOWS! There these amaaazing Portuguese pastries that look like…well…pillows! But seriously. They're amazing.

Hey…I just wanted to add my love. I am so sorry for your injury…. We love you and know this will just make you stronger. Love you. You favorite "big" sister ;)

Reply

Care to loan me a few inches? I am a pint-sized 5ft 3ins and hate it. My Dad is 6ft 1in and my Mum is 5ft 4ins, so really I have no excuse for being such a shorty.

I hated maths at school: I think I did a happy dance after my final exam when I realised I'd never have to use it again and make a point of whipping out a calculator for even the simplest of sums just to metaphorically poke my tongue out at every maths teacher I ever had that argued it was essential.

You're going to kill it in NYC :)

we are the EXACT SAME HEIGHT! 5'8'' and three quarters :) however I round up and just say 5'9'' because I feel like people stop listening after they hear 5'8'' but my three quarters of an inch is important!! My brother and I are only 2 years apart…I'm 23 and he's turning 21 next Friday! AHHH!

Oooh that froyo looks awesome. Sorry to hear you won't make it to Boston – take the time you need to heal and you'll be even more awesome in NYC in November! I live about an outside of NYC (half way between Philly and NYC) in NJ.

Hardest class in college? Well, the one I did the worst in?? ART HISTORY. no joke. Bring on all the science and math… I apparently was unable to remember enough details for about 100 individual slides of art history for each our tests. I should have stuck with music in college instead of trying to expand my horizons with art.

That napolean is up my alley. I actually got one for the first time from the bakery right near my apartment a couple weeks ago, it was awesome.

I'm 5'2".

My sister is 2 years and 7 months younger than me.

You are awesome. Just so you know ;) You are just the most positive person I have ever met. You always see the light at the end of the tunnel. Love ya for that :)
My least favorite class was math..any kind of it- yuck!
Ooo favorite pastry, that's hard..but I think it would have to be scones. I just love them- especially with glaze!
I'm 5'2" & a half! Shortie!
Age difference is 10 years- I'm the baby- my oldest sister is 10 years older than me & my middle sis is 7 1/2 years older.
Have a WONDERFUL day!!!!!!!!!!! xoxo

I just wanted to write how sorry I am to hear about your injury, but think you are amazing the way you are handling it! I am also a runner but can't begin to understand how you must feel about not doing the Boston Marathon. Yet the way you are dealing with it is truly inspiring :)

Also! We were both posted on Holly's blog this morning, woot!

And to answer your questions,
My hardest class was Organic Chemistry (death)
Favorite Pastry: definitely Cannolis
Height: 5'11", pretty tall :)
Age difference: 5 years between my oldest brother and me

My big bro just turned the big 30 so only 5 years I guess. Weird! I swear he is at least 18 years older than me. Have a great day lovely lady.

Yay! For NY! You will run right through my neighborhood in Williamsburg, BK and I will totally be cheering you on. I tried to get in but because I live here I have to do all this stuff to get in, like run more races in NY……hhmmm I like running out of state so whatever.

BUT I do know so many yummy pizza places! So do another post closer to Nov and I will get you headed in the right direction. Way to keep your spirits up!

My toughest class in college was probably biology 101. I hated science class. Always have!!

Hmm favorite pastry? I don't really like them so I'll have to say cinnamon roll.

I am 5'2" so pretty much everyone is taller.

Ha there is a HUGE age gap… 27 1/2 years actually. I'll be 28 this summer. I have a 21 year old sis, 8 yr old sis, 6 yr old sis, 4 yr old sis and a 2 month old bro. :)

Lets see. I'm 5'9" and that's seems small to me because me dad is 6'8". I got cheated!

My heart breaks for you that you can't compete in Boston but we all know that you are making a very wise decision. Listening to your body is just as important as all the miles that you have put in. Plus, we all know you're going to KILL NYC & Boston next year.
Enjoy LIVING life without worrying about fitting running in. The sooner you heal the sooner you return!
That fro-yo looks divine. Eat up Janae!!

I'm glad you aren't going to Boston and you are doing NY instead. Now you have another big marathon to work towards :). And I'm trying to save up the money to fly out and watch my dad run NY so I might just see ya there! He automatically qualified to get into NY because of his qualifying time and I guarantee you could do the same thing so you for sure get in. If you haven't looked into that you should before the lottery opens!

firm believer that good food and family heal the soul! Hmm, maybe I can come to NYC in november to cheer you on! I'm sure we could get a whole bunch of people to do that actually.

My hardest class in college (including grad school) was multivariate statistics. It was so much reading, hw, and memorization in so little time!

My hardest college class was my Intro To Philosophy class, which is hilarious because I was a philosophy major. That class is why I fell in love with philosophy.

I am 5'9", which puts me taller than most of my female friends, but still short enough that most pants don't highwater on me.

12 years between my oldest brother and my youngest brother. I have 6 brothers total. We're not that spread out when you look at sheer volume.

Reply

Sending you SUPER BIG HUGS!! I've heard a lot of people say NYC is even better than Boston! You are going to heal so much stronger and faster. I love your positive spirit. You remain a total running rock star girl!

Yay for ice cream! You should check into a bone stim. machine, a girl on another blog I read got one one ebay, it's supposed to help the bone heal faster? Her blog is http://racing-stripes.blogspot.com/ if you want to check it out – she talks about it in Feb and March I think. Hardest class – microbiology? I'm only 5'2 1/4, and 3 of my four kids are already taller than me – we are placing bets on when my 10 year old passes me! My older daughter is a shade under 6' – she hates being taller than all her friends! My brother and I are only 4 years apart – my kids – oldest to youngest is 13 years!

Reply

Yay for you coming to NYC!! I live here so I will definitely come out to cheer for my favorite blogger (if Im not running myself)! I know you are bummed about Boston but seriously nothing compares to the NYC marathon (or NYC in general, but I'm not biased ;)…you are awesome girl and such an inspiration so never change, this will pass :)

Yay for NYC!!! You are awesome!

My hardest class in undergrad was probably Sport Law (case studies on top of case studies on top of case studies…). In my Master's it was Capstone Research Seminar (40 page paper) – it was more time consuming than hard.

I don't eat a lot of pastries, but I do love them all! Cream cheese butter braids are the bomb.

I have one brother, and he is almost 2 years older than me.

My height…ugh…4'11" – I am a total shorty, but I'm okay with it (now). Nearly everyone (including my 7th grade students) is taller than me. One of my sisters-in-law is a couple inches shorter than me.

MUCH LOVE!

2)Pastry not sure
3) 5ft 7 1/2 in – I'm actually shorter than most of my friends.
4) With my siblings there is 8 years between oldest and youngest. With my kids there is 12 1/2 years between oldest and youngest.

Today is a really hard day for me emotionally, but you have managed to put a smile on my face!

Get outta here! Not going to lie, I thought you were on the shorter side until this post. I'm 5 ft and some change. The realization that basically all my friends were taller than me didn't hit til maybe my senior year in high school. ha.

My toughest class was Corporate Finance. Such a nightmare!!

Favourite pastry is French macarons. Yum! Or donuts! I also love Napolean! My boyfriend makes it sometimes – it's so elaborate to put together.

5'6.5".

Twelve years between me and my youngest sister. There's 6 of us altogether, so it'd have to be a big spread!

Hardest class: I was a Bio major, but Chemistry nearly killed me. I'm glad I got out alive!

Favorite pastry: I am totally with you on the eclairs mmmmm. But I also like French Horns–which are flaky tubes of sweet deliciousness and stuffed with light whipped icing deliciousness. MMMM

Height: I am 5'6" but I always feel like I tower over people. Whenever I wear heels I feel like I am a foot taller than my fiance, but he is 6'!

Age difference: 4.5 years, almost to the day. It's just me and my older bro. 4.5 years was a BIG difference when we were younger but we are much closer now :)

P.S. Love your gummy bear theory!!! HAHA

What a great post Janae! I'm stoked that you have a renewed focus for NYC–I'm reading The Long Run and the book begins with this marathon! It's totally a bucket-lister!

Surrounding yourself with loved ones seems like the best prescription besides fro-yo. And, it's obvious you have many loved ones!!

1. ORGANIC CHEM (absolute poop!!)
3. 5' 7.5" (I thought you looked tall!)
4. My bro and I are 20 mos apart

You're really inspiring, missy. I've read your past few posts, and yes, they made me cry. Just know that God has a plan for us all, and this is all part of it, even if that is hard to grasp at first. HUGS!!!

Ooh! Ooh! I just saw your questions, and totally forgot to answer them, but they're fun, so I'm leaving another comment just for that: (hehe)

1. Geometry was the hardest class for me in college. I'm more of the language/reading/writing student… Math is NOT my forte!

2. French macarons are my favourite pastries of all time. That and "Pain au Chocolat" (also French.. Seeing a pattern here?) A bread pastry with chocolate inside, YUM. Heaven on earth.

3. WE'RE THE SAME HEIGHT!!! You don't know how exciting that is! (or maybe you do….) I always feel like I'm towering above everyone! Always exciting to find other tall girls :)

4. I have two older brothers; I'm the baby (and the only girl). There's a 5 year difference between my oldest bro and me… And his birthday was actually just yesterday! :)

XOXOXOOXO and Virtual hugs to you!

That napolean dessert is the bomb.com so yummy.

My hardest college class was neurophysiology. Made me cry on a daily basis. Ugh… hated it.

Fav pastry??? Any and all! Lol. Fruit tarts are pretty yummy though.

I'm 5'7"… pretty average.

Josh and i are 3 years apart… I'm the baby, the only girl, and the favorite. ;)

Hm, I am very short, 4'9 which is cool because I mostly wear flats because I do have to stand and walk most of the day and it get's so uncomfortable in heels.

In college I despised almost everything, but most of all biology. I liked chemistry and physics though.

My sister is not even two years younger than me. :)

I'm 5'8", and my oldest sister is 6 years older than me (I'm the baby!). I'm glad you are speding time with family and close friends. Surround yourself with love and smiles and laughter! I wish Lindsay and I could fly out from Texas to hang out with you. I'd give you a piggyback everywhere we went. xoxo

Janae, my post for last night is dedicated to you. If you get a chance to read it, you can skip to the bottom because I know you're probably swamped with getting your heal on, getting hugs, and working on your calcium intake :)

Best pizza ever. Don't go anywhere else for pizza in NYC, just eat all your pizza at Lombardi's.
