Recovery Runs and Ziti

I LOVED reading the comments from the last post about the scale.  You guys truly are fabulous.  FYI I read every single comment on every single post (so does Billy and my mom:) and they all mean so much to me.  THANK YOU!!

Corey @ Runners Cookie said, “Running also helped me a ton on this – once I began seeing myself as an athlete instead of a workout-to-be-skinny person, a lot of things changed.”

This is something that has happened with me too.  I love running and working out so much more than when I did it just for weight loss.  How about we all focus in on bringing out our natural athlete’s and forget about working out to be size x or weigh x amount of lbs.  By channeling our inner athletes we will want to work out more and we won’t dread it so much. Having a hot bod without even thinking about it will just be the added bonus from all of our athletic endeavors:)

—————————————————————-

Yesterday’s workout was a 6 mile recovery run with Mary Ann. It rocked.  It was 54 degrees out and my Garmin ran out of batteries so we were just running according to how we wanted too and talking the whole time.  Shorts and shorts sleeves….I could get used to this.

We had some Sunny D when we made it back to the running store and stretched.

When I got home Billy was still taking a test?!?! I thought for sure he would be home before me, so I decided to hang out with Jillian and do some yoga, my muscles are sore and I am hoping yoga will loosen them up because today’s workout is going to be a tough one!

IMG_4485.JPG

Anyone want to come organize my house for me?

Billy came home half-way through my yogafying, took a picture and jumped on the treadmill. He uses a program where Jillian talks to you as you workout……basically, Jillian’s voice was all over our tiny house (between the treadmill and my yoga) yelling at us to be more tough.

Tough we are.

We followed our workout with chocolate milk and glutamine.

Then I took a shower.  Okay, that is a huge lie, I was hungry and food takes precedence over hygiene any day in my book.

We had baked ziti (I just cooked noodles, mixed it with red sauce and covered with cheese and threw it in the oven for a little while) with spinach salads on the side.  Noodles, cheese and marinera sauce make me a very happy girl.  Oh and so does an after dinner bowl of rocky road ice cream with added M&M’s.

IMG_4489.JPG

After dinner we were the super cool people that we are and organized socks.

Wow, we have turned into 90 year olds.

IMG_4486.jpg

For some reason Billy doesn’t like the fact that somehow 90% of his socks ended up in my dresser.  Why can’t we just share socks….my feet are only a little bit bigger than his.  Why did I just admit that for the world to see?

——————————————————————–

Do you organize your socks?

-This is the first time ever.  Seriously, I just throw them all into a drawer and pick out the lucky winners randomly each day.

Do you ever do workout DVD’s at home?

-I lasted with P90X for .4 (I am a wimp) of a workout but I love doing any of Jillian Michael’s DVD’s!

What size shoe do you wear?

-Running shoes 10-10.5, real life shoes 9.

Any super easy dinner ideas that you want to share with me pretty please?!?!

What is the program that Billy is using for running? I do love me some Jillian Michaels!

I wear size 7.5 shoes. And I *hate* organizing socks. So many of my socks look similar and I don't realize that I am mismatched until I get out into public and look down and see that one sock is different than the other!

Reply

Omgggg girl yesterday I posted the PERFECT easy peasy dinner recipe!! It is yummy veglicious:)

Slash Jillian rocks, and socks just never end up matching in my house. I use the lottery system too!

And giiiirl I have TINY feet, I am a regular shoe size 5, and a running shoe size 6. I'm a baby basically:)

Reply

Ha, ha…with 6 people in our family I quite regularly just chuck the mis-matched socks and buy the kids new!

I have done workout DVD's for years. After you have kids, you get rather creative about scheduling…I actually did a round of P90X last year.

I do the Yoga X every Monday…then my long run on Tuesday…then lay on the couch eating string cheese all day Wednesday! ;o)

I wear 9.5 in running shoes, 8.5 in real life.

Crock Pot = love, for quick and easy dinners!

Reply

Hahahah! Ryan took a picture of me folding socks last year and emailed it to my whole family proclaiming that it was a once in a lifetime event!! I HATE sock folding. With 5 of us in the house it's crazy. I usually make it a game for the kids to see who can find the most matches. Which is fun times until you go to pull out a pair of socks for work and end up with one running sock and one striped dress sock. :)

Reply

Socks!! OH HECK NO! I only do mine HAHA! The kids socks go in a basket they can go look for them!

When my kids were 7 and under and my husband was deployed I got up every morn at 5am to do a Tae Bo tape. Thankfully they are older now and I can leave them to run so I no longer use workout tapes

I am a size 7 but wear 7.5-8 depending on the shoe. I used to be a 6.5 until I had kids!

Taco stoup! Rachel Ray.. Chicken broth, canned tomatoes, taco seasoning and meat. Top with cheese and eat with chips! The lime ones are yummy. REALLY fast and easy

Socks must be organized! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Reply

I love Jillian Michaels's Yoga Meltdown DVD! I do at once or twice a week…but still havent had the guts to move onto level 2 ;)

I wear anywhere a size 7 in shoes. Which always seems to be the popular size and sells out first!

Reply

I've been trying to keep up with P90X…it's tough!

My shoe size is anywhere between 9 and 10 depending on the brand.

Easiest dinner: can of black beans, can of rotel, 1 onion, + rice. You can add it to lettuce to make a taco salad or wrap it in a tortilla to make a burrito! :)

P.S. I haven't had Sunny D in ages! Yummm

Reply

I have been contemplating Jillian's Yoga or her Abs DVD… I am a wimp with the Shred, even though it's totally awesome.

I just wanted to say hi! I discovered your blog through southernsobergirlruns.com. We are training for the Derby mini together. Thank you for making me smile on a daily basis and reminding me that running can be fun! Bring on the inspiration!!!

I do organize our socks. I don't like it but i feel i must do it because there are 5 of us and if I didn't we'd never find anything.

I am currently doing Jillian Michael's Shred it with Weights DVD at home now.

I wear size 7 or 7.5 shoes.

I just posted a yummy recipe on my blog.

Reply

Best baked ziti ever: Stir in some small-curd cottage cheese and a lot of oregano. YUM.

Reply

I organize my own socks everytime they come out of the dryer, but Mike likes his just thrown in the drawer. He lives dangerously.

We just got our new treadmill yesterday, I can't wait to have Jillian yell at me :)

I wear a 9.5 everyday shoes and a 10-10.5 running. I always feel like the running store people are judging me for my giant feet.

Reply

lol! I'm a neat freak so our socks are always organized. Too bad we don't live closer or I'd be happy to organize your house! De-cluttering is my happy place. :D And yes, I too enjoy all things Jillian including her many workout DVDs. Happy Wednesday!!

Reply

I match up my socks when I do my laundry. I don't think I could throw them all into a drawer… I feel like I would never find the match!

This morning I did Pick Your Spot Pilates! I love the DVD. Ellen is the best!!! I also have a bunch of yoga dvds. The OM one is really difficult. I might have to buy the Jillian Miachaels dvds though, since everyone is loving them!

I'm a 9 too! Big feet helps with balance and keeps you grounded! haha That's what my Mom tells me ;-)

I made turkey tacos the other night. Super good, healthy and easy!
Mexican Food is pretty ballin

Reply

Let's see….I completed P90X last year. I did with a friend which really helped. I think it would be so boring by yourself. Back in the day I used to rock the workout DVDs at home…I LOVED The Firm workouts. :)
I wear a size 8 in regular shoes and my current running shoes are 10s.

Reply

i wish i had jillian to yell at me while i ran. thats pretty cool. she kicks my ass everytime with the 30 day shred.

i always wear the bf's socks. shhhhh dont tell. i wear a size 6 and he wears 10 or 11 or something. but his socks just feel soooooo comfortable and cozy onb my feet.

I'm a little late catching up on your posts, so I'll just comment on everything here. I agree that scales give people so much anxiety – and all they do is capture one number. That number can't possibly tell you if you're healthy, what kind of shape you're in, how far and fast you can run, how many reps you can on the bench, etc. I've learned to just pay attention to how I feel and how I perform, and that's the best way for me. I used to count calories and only eat "low fat" stuff, but now I'm in a mind set of thinking about what my body needs. After a workout I eat to replenish, and throughout the day I eat tons of fruits and veggies with some fats and protein.

I don't have any workout DVDs bc my living room is too small! I told my bf that I want to move the couches to the dining room so I can workout in there! I really want to try P90X bc I heard its wicked hard and makes you want to puke…which kinda sounds fun! I wish I had Jillian DVDs and running programs so she could scream at me too!

Easy dinner – chop up veggies of your choice (peppers, onions, broc, carrots, etc) and toss with a little olive oil and spice you like. Roast at 375 for about 45 minutes (catch up on hulu shows while this cooks) then toss with pasta and cheese – delicious pasta primavera! I like to make a big batch so I have easy lunches/dinners for the week!

Why are you a different size running shoe than normal shoe? Am I missing something? I wear size 9 for everything.

Reply

I envy your running weather! It's still too cold here for shorts and shorts sleeve.

I wear a size 10.5 in running shoes too! And I have ever since I was twelve yrs old. I always feel like I have mammoth feet. My mom always told me when I was younger that my big feet were what made me so fast in track. Haha…

Reply

I LOATHE organizing socks! However, when I'm scrambling at 530am to find a matching pair to get to the gym I always tell myself I should really get on that – I never do, and probably never will.

I used to do some Jillian Michael's at home. But then I had annoying downstairs neighbors that liked to remind me they could hear me walking, so workout videos no more :(

I wear a 9.5 running shoe, 8 in regular life. :)

Super easy dinner idea – buffalo chicken. I make this about 90% of nights because it's easy and I'm obsessed. Chicken breast seasoned with a little chili powder and paprika. put in a pan with some olive oil over medium heat for 5 mins per side (or until cooked through). Slice chicken and toss with hot sauce (can mix with a little melted butter for a more mild flavor, if you don't like it TOO spicy;) Makes great wraps, quesadillas, buffalo chicken pizza, or is just fine on its own! YUM!

Reply

i'm a neat freak and like my socks folded.
I plan on doing jillian's yoga video today after my easy run
size 8 baby!!
A veggie stirfry over rice is always nice and easy!!

PS: jealous that you get to wear shorts and a tshirt while running outside!!

Reply

I wear a 8.5 in road shoes, 9 in trail shoes. Don't want any 'toe bang' from too-small trail shoes!!

Easy dinner? Take 2 boxes macaroni and cheese (organic to make it EVEN healthier) and one can veggie chili…. make the mac&cheese according to the package directions, then add the can of chili and…. VOILA = chili mac. Healthy (all those beeeeeans, yum) and delicious!

I LOVE SPRING IN UTAH!! Jelly…..

Reply

This is too funny – Billy and I just had a sock talk a couple days ago. I ALWAYS seem to be matching and folding his socks. It's amazing how many pairs he goes through. I wear size 8 in regular shoes, 9 in running shoes.

Reply

YOU HAVE BIG FEET!! and AHAHAH that wud be so funny to hear jillian around thehouse.. id be a little spooked!
i wear a size 7-7.5… small feet :D

Reply

I am totally OCD with socks!!! I match up all pairs before they go into the drawers. The kids and my socks are usually pretty easy because of stripes, logos etc….. but my husbands are tougher… all white with no logos from costco.
I lay them out and start with the "newest" looking ones, then proceed to match them all with their mates based on stains, heel thickness and remaining life. If there is one with a hole, I try to match it with a developing hole to give them one more day of life before they get thrown out.
This usually happens once a week or so while watching TV.

I love your blog, but never commented before. I guess you inspired me to share my sock methods!!

Reply

I use some workout dvds, but not too many.
A yummy, easy dinner is pita pizzas. Basically you take a whole pita, top it with marinara, and whatever pizza toppings you want, and bake it until the cheese melts. Sooo good!

Silly socks!

– I hate doing socks on laundry day

– I organize them, work and social socks in my dresser, workout, cycling, and compression socks in the tri cave

– I have Insanity, which is freaking tough, and it collects dust and P90X which I DO, but now the season is starting, i will be only doing the strength part of it

– Easy Peasy Recipe that will make you a rockstar chef in Billy's eyes

Its called Mexican Pasta

all you need is
– ground turkey or beef, whatever you like or have
– taco seasoning packet
– pasta of your choice
– garnishes of your choice (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc)

To cook

– Ground the meat, when its done brown, drain the fat
– add the taco seasoning packet and water that the packet says to add, stir in and simmer for 20 minutes
– in a pot, cook the pasta in boiling water 8-11 minutes, when done, drain
– cut your garnishes
– serve like pasta is served and top with your favorite garnishes

SEE!!!!! That simple!!! And I love it!!!

hahahaha! That sock picture is a classic. Keep that one for the kids. And I wear size 7 shoes. It stinks because there are never any 7s in clearance! Maybe if I had bigger or smaller feet I could get in on the deals. : )

Reply

I do p90x and jillian! I have them both at home. My socks are also color coordinated but I do have a place for the random ones whose partners get lost forever.
My shoe size is 8.5-9 and my favorite easy dinners are ones that you put in the microwave…haha :)

Reply

You wear the same size shoe as I do! Super cool! My old running shoes were my regular size so…not so good, blisters all the time. I love my new ones though.

Reply

I just recently did Jillians 6 Week Ab video and holy cow it was fun and hard. The hubby did P90X though….

My shoe size is a nice even 7!

I wear 8.5 – 9 in regular shoes, but usually 10 in running shoes. I like room!

Where was TTT? I was sad to not get to read fun facts! Haha, just kidding, your blog, do what you want. I'm just saying though…. I LOVE TTT!

Your face is ADORABLE in the yoga picture! I go through my sock drawer every 6 months or so. Usually I get frustrated 10 minutes into it, and give up. Haha.

Reply

i love ANY biggest loser workout. usually I bundle my socks together post-laundering, but lately the hubbys been doing laundry, so that means he just places them next to each other and then they get all mixed up in my sock drawer which drives me CRAZY!
My shoe size was 6.5/7 (running was 8) but post-pregnancy I;m now a running size 8.5/9 and NONE of my shoes fit me anymore :( so i have no idea what size feet i have.

also..i am super jealous that you made it out for a run yesterday. i had a running date but my BOB was locked in the trunk of my car and i couldn't unlock it for some reason :( so no lovely outside run for me, just treadmilling :)

Reply

For easy dinner ideas anything in the slow cooker! I seriously love mine! You just put whatever in there and turn it on and hours later yums!! I have made ribs, pulled pork, french toast, chili, chicken fiesta, etc!

Reply

I 100% agree with your mentality about the scale; I try not to weigh myself too frequently or compare myself to others because I know I am strong and being a bit heavier with muscle only helps make me a stronger, faster runner! Sometimes I battle with myself thinking that it would be nice to have leaner, less bulky legs, but then I remind myself that I can rock 26.2 miles while others can barely run for 5 minutes. Then I smile :)

Your dinner looks amazing, even though it's so simple- that's the best! Also jealous of your shorts weather, still cold here in NYC :(

Reply

Your sock pile is hilarious! I hate wearing socks… I only ever wear sanadals, ballerina flats, or uggs so the only time I even think about 'em is when I'm running. So it's safe to say they're never organized either…

Reply

I was much happier to workout when I changed my focus from goal weight to running goals!

Reply

I wear 8 for everyday shoes and 9 for running. That food looks great!! I usually eat before I shower, too.

Reply

Ugh… socks are the worst. No matter what you do, you always lose some every time you wash them!

Reply

hahah that sounds like a night at our house!! My socks are never matched correctly and I will keep a lone one for years hoping its mate will turn up. Love Jillians workouts! No More Trouble zones kills me…in a good way and the Yoga is my new addiction!

Reply

Running shoes 7.5. Real life shoes 6.5-7. Bowling shoes ridiculously tiny.. sometimes a five.

Reply

I will glady come organize your home if you train me to be a better runner! :)

I'm all about Jillian's DVDs! I have the 30 day shred and she kicks my bootay!!
My running shoe size is 8 and real size is 7.5. How tall are you? You look like you would have Hello Kitty feet!

Reply

I just tried Jillian's Yoga dvd last night and wasn't thrilled, I think because I had no idea what I was doing and am not familiar with Yoga, but I like her Shred and Trouble zones better. Also I've just started Bob Harper's DVD collection, I have Cardio Conditioning which totally kicks your butt!
My running shoes are 6.5 and my real shoes are 5.5, yep I have miniature feet lol

Reply

This made me laugh because my roommates and I have about a zillion (at least) workout DVDs and at any given time, we're all doing one, and you can hear Tony Horton, Jillian, or Bob all through the apartment.

I did p90X and am on Day 3 on Insanity! It is superbly insane indeed.

Hi there! I am new to your blog and I love it! I found out about it through Mary Ann. She has been helping coach me, so I can relate to your post on her. Especially the feeling creepy part. There is no need for you to worry though. I'm sure she was far more creeped out by a random message I sent her on FB begging for help. But she really is AMAZING… and nice! Sure wish i could have come running with you guys the other day.
About my socks- I randomly pick whatever pair of socks touches my hand first when I reach into that drawer. The other day I discovered a poor little neglected pair of running socks at the back of the drawer that had never been worn. Whoopsy.
Also, our favorite easy, healthy, thing to make for dinner is shrimp & pasta. We basically saute the frozen shrimp in a little bit on olive oil, add some chopped onion, minced garlic, and canned chopped tomatoes (Italian Seasoned.) Then we just add that to whatever pasta we want and add a little bit of Prego sauce.
This is also an instant recipe to boost my self-esteem at my home, because when my kids find out I'm making this for dinner, they act as though Mary Poppins has come to live with them. (only for about an hour though) Yes, my kids love shrimp.

Reply

EASY DINNER – Crock Pot chicken thighs – throw 4 chicken thighs into a crock pot with two cans of stewed tomatoes, 1/4 cup chicken broth (or just eyeball it like I do) and 2TBSP worcestshire sauce. Cook on low al lday while at work and you come home to a lovely smell. Cook rice to serve on the side and black beans (my hubby is Puerto Rican so beans are a staple in my house). LOTS of protein and SUPER YUMMY!

You already know I rock P90X—I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I feel so strong now! I feel like a new person!

AAAAAND…I wear a size 7 shoe.

BONUS POINT: I'm getting certified to teach yoga next month!!!! I'm so excited!

Reply

Can you please pretty please share which running program Billy was using? I love her and wish she could yell at me while I run!

Reply

Oh my gosh! All those socks! That's too funny. I match mine up every time I do laundry. I'm too particular about things like that! Your dinner from last night looked delicious!! At home I do Jillian's Shred DVD which always winds up hurting me. Oops. I wear a 7 in regular shoes and a 7.5 in running shoes.

Super easy recipe:
Salsa Chicken
Preheat oven to 350
Put chicken breast (usually one per person) in a baking dish and pour Picante Salsa over the chicken
Bake for 25 minutes
Remove from oven and sprinkle mexican shredded cheese over chicken breast
Bake for 3 minutes
Serve and enjoy! Goes great with spanish rice and chips and salsa!

Reply

I NEVER sort the socks. I wash them and throw them all in one drawer. Works for me….

I wear a size 7 shoe for everyday and an 8 for running shoes.

I RARELY cook because we own a restaurant. Probably isn't always healty but it is definitely always EASY!

Reply

I love ziti, and I will be trying that for a quicker way to make it. I love quick recipes because I just don't have time to spend in preparation and cooking very often at all. But my son did tell me the other day that I am really good at baking food. :)

I love the P90X DVD's as well as Insanity. I've heard Hip Hop Abs is a blast, but I don't have it. Lately I've been popping in the P90X yoga DVD and doing the first 40 minutes on Monday nights. I plan on adding in the shoulder and back workouts this summer to work on my weak spots.

Reply

sock organizing!!! :D uh, i actually kinda love it. weird, i know.

workout DVDs not per se, but there is this awesome free video podcast called 'yogamazing'. i love this guy. its mega low-key, and the workouts are only 1/2 an hour, but that's all i can really manage in a non-class yoga situation.

easy dinner ideas!!!

uh, breakfast-for-dinner ideas = deconstructed omelette 'scramble' (because am i the only person without omelette talent? it always ends up non-omelette-shaped anyway, so i just gave up on that): onions, smoked turkey, spinach, eggs/whites/whatever, and with feta on top. SO GOOD. better with toast. :) OR that minus eggs and with quinoa instead, also yum. aaaand at the end mix in a little dijon mustard = all is right with the world.

failing that, does anything beat a bowl of cereal for dinner? no. oh, livin' alone…

I am totally obsessed with having all my socks match with its pair. It's so bad, that when i wash my running sock, I compare the bottoms to see which are worn more to make sure the newer socks are matched and the older socks are matched. I refuse to put regular socks and running socks in the same drawer too.

Once in a while I will do a work out DVD at home. Lately it's been all about P90X. I plan on trying some free on demand Yoga tomorrow though. wish me luck! I am not into Yoga but I know it will be good for my muscles.

I run in a 9.5 2A, I have extremely narrow feet! I wear a size 8 in most other shoes.

My favorite go-to easy meal you already love…pasta! It's so easy to whip up a sauce and boil noodles. I am also big on prepping meals for the week on a Sunday. It really helps me during the week!

Reply

It's okay, we are a 90 year old couple too. Don't you like it that way, though? I am completely content with my old lady ways.

I accidentally ordered a treadmill the other night. WHOOPS! I wanted to see if I qualified for the "Bill Me Later" feature and BAM, it says, "THANK YOU FOR YOUR ORDER".

Whoops. A huge part of me didn't want to cancel my order, because I want to be cool like Janae… but I had to face the fact that I won't be coming in contact with $1,000 anytime soon. Boo hoo.

Reply

Even though I like running (for the most part), I definitely run/workout to lose weight…I do hope though that I can eventually run just for the love of it!

Reply

Why do you think you're feet are big? I wear the same size and have always felt like they're juuuusssst right (baby bear style). Of course, I'm also 5'10", so that might have something to do with it…
My favorite easy recipe is quesadillas. I use leftover chicken if I have it, canned black beans and chopped up fresh spinach with the cheese of your choice. Just slap those tortillas in a pan and top with the fillings and cook till toasty. Serve with lots and lots of fresh avocado. Yum.

Reply

Brent's feet are bigger than mine, but not by much, which means that I borrow his socks all the time. I'm not sure he knows :)

I have pilates DVDs at home that I use when I am too lazy to go to the gym but don't want to be bummed out that I haven't worked out.

I wear a size 9 in everything. I used to cram my feet into 7.5's when I was younger because of course I was embarrassed to be a size bigger. How silly!

I love easy quesadillas! I throw them on a george foreman for a quick press

I wear a 10-10.5 in running shoes too!! I can fit into a 9-9.5 for heels and boots! Sometimes I do yoga at home from the exercise on demand channel on TV which is fun! Otherwise I just go to the gym.

Loved your socks picture. I'm a little anal about socks at my house. I have to separate and fold them. And if my kids lose one sock, I make thkelbasaem go look for it's mate. I do have my dryer drawer that holds the missing mate.
I wear size 8. And I have a couple of Jillian DVD's. She's mean.
Easy dinner: turkey kielbasa sautéed with lots of veggies over rice or noodles or alone. YUM!

Do you organize your socks?

-I have over 100 pairs of knee socks, so I HAVE to keep them organized. They live in a shoe hangy thing in my closet.

Do you ever do workout DVD's at home?

-Not really, but I'd like to.

What size shoe do you wear?

-8-9. 8.5 in running.

Any super easy dinner ideas that you want to share with me pretty please?!?!

Oil in pan. Sear chicken breasts. Flip. Smother in grainy mustard. Throw in oven until cooked through. DONE.

love the picture of billy sorting socks.. he looks so excited about it! HAHAHA! I usually sort socks right out of the dryer.. Work socks go in one drawer, and the rest in another. I own to many!

PS i swear its like crazy difficult to post on your blog.. I always end up spending 5 minutes figuring out how to make my post submit! LOL.. i feel like such a tard!

Reply

I have P90X and Insanity DVDs! I failed at both of them. Holy crap those are hard.
As for an easy dinner, chicken breasts are so versatile! I always have some on hand to throw in a marinade for 30 min and then cook up with some brown rice & vegetables :-) It's so easy to change up the meal with different spices or ways of cooking the veggies! Yummy hot meal in like 20 min!

Reply

Your yoga pose rocks!! I too am a complete sucker for yoga when my muscles feel tight. I'm more the Bob Harper type though – have two of his yoga DVDs.

When it comes to anything around here (including socks!), it has to be organized. I'm kinda obsessive that way. Shoe size is 8.5-9 and I swear it's the most popular size out there!

Reply

I somehow lose one sock of every pair. So no. No sock organizing for me.

I love how you've changed your workouts lately! This new plan is going to make you so effing fast at Boston!

Reply

My boyfriend just purchased the P90x workout and it killed me, I just did the Ab ripper…I think I will stick to running lol. I get a little bored watching cheesy people try to pump me up.
As for quick dinners, I love mini pizza's. Just take either an english muffin or pita bread spread with sauce, meat and cheese and pop it in the oven. Yum!

Reply

I organize my socks, I think I'd go crazy if I couldn't find matches. I have a bag though of random socks that every once in a while I have to go through with all of my kids mismatched socks in it. I wear a 6.5 to 7 shoes but usually a 7 in my running shoes.

Totally random, but has Billy considered law school at the University of Oregon? It's a top 100 school. There are also usually quite a few BYU alum entering every year and Eugene is a great place to run!

Reply

I linked you to my post his a.m. regarding your "Cut" challenge! Loved it!

I wear size 10 running shoes too and organize my socks into "athletic" and "dressy"–I'm sorta neat like that! Love your yoga pose-looked at those defined runner's legs! I'm in day 2 of doing yoga with running and LOVE it-plus it is relaxing!

Reply

Oh man I love yoga, it's helped with all my aches and pains since I started in August. Its fantastic. I especially like doing twists and downward dog.

I try to match my socks when they come out of the dryer that way i don't wear mismatched socks all that often.

Love the yoga pose! We share socks – it took 2+ years to convince the hubby to do so, but it makes everything sock related much easier!

You made my day with the quote, Janae!! I am so, so glad that you understand.
Hahah the socks picture made me crack up because I used to have to match socks for our family of 5, which went through at least 7 loads of laundry per week – it was almost impossible sometimes! You guys are adorable.
That is so awesome that you found a training buddy and decided to do more of your running outside :)

Reply

I always match up my socks – but then I get really upset when a lot of them are missing their mates!!

For a super quick dinner I often take some 4 oz salmon filets, smear however much dijon mustard on them as I want, then pat a bunch of lemon pepper panko breadcrumbs onto the mustard. I bake it at 375 for 10-15 minutes, make some broccoli and couscous on the side, voila!

Hahahha don't worry I have size 10.5-11 feet! AND I'M ONLY 5'6!!! I swear though I used to be an 11 all the way but after I lost weight I'm not closer to a 10.5! Hey I'll take it!!

Ps. True Life: I steal my brother and fathers socks whenever I'm home… I can't help it I love to wear high socks when I'm loungin!!

OHMYGOODNESS I just saw your last post. All I'm going to say is that I think you are completely and utterly amazing:) I am exactly the same as you, and hearing you say all that stuff is SO AWESOME it made my day:)

P.S. You are quite the yogi girl!!

Reply

I would love to come and organize for you! I am a little obsessed with having everything clean, organized, and in its place. So, yes, I also organize and match my socks together. I may be a little OCD.

Reply

this post made me laugh because i tend to steal my boyfriend's socks a lot and he's always wondering why they end up in my drawer. i don't get why we can't share socks either!

Hi Janae!
Thanks for your sweet comments. :) Also, I LOVE my white headband…it's also sparkly! It would look awesome on you with your dark hair. It's a BIC Band. It's only $8 and $1 goes to charity. Here's the link if you're interested. Beware, they are addicting. :)

I love Jillian. She rocks. And I have huge feet too. 9.5 to 10 depending on the shoe. Go big feet girls! :)

Ha! I'm not sure my 3-hour rides are even in the same ballpark as your treadmill marathons!

Brent's much better with the strength training than I am, even though he's doing a routine that I could easily adapt for myself. I'll try to get him to write up a post about the workout.

Those are a lot of socks!haha.I wear a shoe size 7… I think I shrunk because I could have sworn in high school I wore a size 8. I have big feet in my family…

Reply

I dont organize socks necessarily because I have to sort them between mine and 3 boys. I love Jillian's 30 Day Shred. 8.5 shoes. Running does help my weight and food issues because I focus on running being strong and fueling. I have an injured achilles and have to take of a bit of time and ruined my may marathon training so now that I cant run some issues are surfacing. I will be back hopefully soon and hopefully wont have lost too much ground.

Poor Billy! He doesn't look thrilled over those socks. I don't like matching socks, but I do. Between me, the husband, and three kids..it helps to stay organized and on top of it! Of course I will admit that sometimes I'll say to husband, "hey, do you mind getting the load of laundry out?" Just so he has to get the socks out. LOL He does the same to me..so we're even!!

Chicken Parmesan! I'm sure I make it "wrong" but I do a quick and easy version by dredging a couple chicken breasts in egg wash and then bread crumbs that I season with parmesan, garlic and onion powder. Then, bake that for about an hour at 5 million degrees (our oven is from the stone age…things take a while). While the chicken's baking, I usually boil some penne or spaghetti noodles, then serve everything with marinara sauce, steamed brocolli and garlic bread!

Mine are UK 5, which I am not sure what that is in america, maybe 7? Not sure how it goes.
I only have coloured socks as when I have black socks they end up in Andys drawer and his big feet stretch them out! PLus I like fun socks!

I love that you were doing YOGA, good girl!!! :) I once made this AMAZING chicken/broccoli and cheese dish similar to this http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=218633 (except I didn't use nuts and I used provolone cheese!)

Coming from a family of 7 we've sorted socks for a long time. And each time, I dread it! But then am soooo happy once I have! Love that you post about food!! And life And being an athlete. Your a doll!

Yes, I have a simple dinner recipe for you: pesto chicken.

No, I do not organize my socks and it drive my husband NUTS. Muahahaha.

big feet girls unite! I'm so glad to hear that. I'm a 9.5 in regular shoes, a 10 in running shoes. waaah!

I also love your no-shame pictures on your blog. I get sick of the cutesy smiley pictures everybody has! you're the bomb.com, girlfriend. :)

Do you own a crocpot? Because Chicken breasts, onions, colorful peppers and spices maybe a bit of chicken broth and salsa with spices. BAM, Put on salads with some guac and sr cream. Or in tortillas. Or in a mexi omlette. I also will do low fat cream of chic soup, veggies, onions, a bit of wine, garlic and chic breasts. Then BAM, serve over brown rice. Same with light coconut milk, curry, lemon grass, garlic, green veggie and chic breasts. Im all about easy. Hense I have 3 kids. HA!

The sock organization picture made me BURST OUT LOUD laughing!!!! Absolutely hilarious!!!

I love some Jillian! Did you watch BL last night? I found myself so upset and yelling at the red team. BTW – socks. Well I just hate laundry in general.

Reply

Looks like you enjoyed your yoga – I love crescent lunge pose!!
I wear a size 7.5-8, but my sister is like 11 in women's, so she always buys men's shoes.

Reply

I match up my socks as they come out of the laundry. With 3 kids I have to or no one would ever have the right ones! So, my sock drawer is organized. The hubs even has separate drawers for his work and workout socks. :) We are dorks and very organized!

After my 3rd baby I started using DVD's to work out in the morning. I LOVE Jillian Michaels and Jackie Warner. If it weren't for them I would never be able to run like I can now or have lost all my baby weight and then some!

I could really relate to your last post. Since baby 3 I have been checking my weight every day and letting the # alter my mood for the day. UGH! I am trying to break that habit and start to accept my body for what it is and has become over the last 3 years. I am more in shape then EVER in my life and need to be comfortable in my skin no matter the number. Thanks for your honest post. It has really convicted me to take a closer look at my relationship with my scale and the # it reads.

I wear a size 8 1/2. After much foot growing during pregnancy! Just what you wanted to hear I'm sure! I started having pain in my left foot last summer and my podiatrist told me to move up a 1/2 shoe size and it's made all the difference in the world.

My favorite easy meals are homemade tomato sauce (recipe from the pack of the crushed pomodoro tomato can) over quinoa (with a little goat cheese sprinkled on top).

I also love parchment roasted veggies over quinoa. Basically, put the following in the middle of a sheet of parchment paper: chopped up veggies (my favorites are tomatoes and squash), a minced clove of garlic, some lemon or lime juice, and salt. Fold it all up, and bake it at 400 for 20 minutes. Pour contents of parchment over quinoa and enjoy.

Can you tell I love quinoa?

umm, i'll gladly be your live-in-maid if in exchange i get running lessons and fro yo!! you are awesome and i love reading your blog…before class, after class, and while i am "studying" haha thanks for all the inspiration!! :)

I desperately need to organize my socks. I throw them all in a drawer, but I refuse to wear pairs that aren't perfectly matched. I took me more than 5 minutes to find a pair this morning.

Unfortunately, my quick dinner ideas all involve take-out or Freschetta pizzas. I really need to start eating better so I feel better when I run.

I talked all about running shoe sizes this morning on my blog, but I think I need to wear 8.5-9. 9.5s make me feel like I have clown shoes on because they slide around.

Reply

I couldn't stick with P90X either. The guy made me want to stab myself with a pencil.

I wear a 9 in most shoes, sometimes a little bigger.

Reply

I never organize my socks, and people always comment on how mine NEVER match.

My dinner is usually always salad. I don't cook during the week because I am lazy and need food fast.

Someone from work gave me a recipe for Cake In A Cup (microwave cake) that sounds like me for dessert for awhile.

I am so happy you have found an awesome running partner!

That ziti looks awesome.

I used to hate work out DVDs, but I have to admit I love the 30-Day Shred.

Between Jillian and your sock endeavor, this post totally had me laughing. I kind of love the way you live life, not gonna deny it :) P.S. I watched Passport to Paris the other night. Unfortunately I was alone (aka you were not here). Fortunately the movie was still amazing.

Reply

love your blog. You inspire me each time I read it. I love me some yoga!!! Trying to do p90x right now. yeah…wish me luck! lol. I'm trying your chocolate milk instead of buying the huge 30$ expensive "recovery drink" from Costco. Thanks for the great info!

Janae you have long, lean, pretty legs girlie!!

Easy dinner idea…actually making it tonite…here it goes:
place 1 can of beef broth, layer baby carrots, green beans (or other veggies)in casserole dish…1/4 olive oil in pan w/tsp. garlic, saute/sear pork chops in oil and place in casserole dish, then place in oven at 350 degrees for 35 mins.! dinner done…goes great w/rice pilaf and crusty bread!! :)

I'm a size 7 (7 1/2 running shoes).

My hubby and I are going to try Zumba and the P90X. I like Tracy Anderson (she really know how to target the smaller muscles) and Jillian sometimes!!

Have a great evening!! :)

When I ran cross country we had a locker full of "extra" clothes a.k.a. clothes left over that were not necesarilly clean and maybe even a little crusty [hygeine wasn't our strongest point…]

I wear size 5.5 but have to go up to a 6 for running. Unfortunately, they don't make good running shoes in my size easy to find. Lame.

Reply

Hahahahahah, those photos are classic! I'm glad that you kick it old school like me: yoga and sock matching :)

Reply

Easy dinner:
-microwaved rice, 2 eggs, spinach in a pan. Cook until spinach is wilted, season with pepper, garlic powder, oregano, add some tomatoes and parmesan cheese, and eat up!!!

Reply

Oh my goodness, I just laughed outloud at the sock picture. That's awesome.

I wear size 10-10.5 too in running shoes.

And I'm going to take notes on all the easy recipe posts too. I usually wait until I'm famished to start preparing dinner.

Do you organize your socks?
-I do organize my socks! I'm very type A personality and it bothers me when I go to put on a sock and don't have a matching one… then my feet feel unbalanced all day. Is that weird?

Do you ever do workout DVD's at home?
-I love Jillian Michael's workouts and the biggest loser workouts for the Wii. It's often a party :)

What size shoe do you wear?
-ummm yea… I wear a size 3… in Kids… No high heels for me.

Reply

I love what you said about running because you are an athlete and not for weight loss/maintainance. It's too easy for it to feel like a burden if the motivation is not in the right place.

I wear a size 8.5 in running shoes. Used to be a 7.5/8 but as the muscles in my feet got stronger, they also got a bit bigger and required bigger shoes.

Reply

i have to organize my socks. im too anal about that.

i have a TON of workout DVDS..I love all the Cathe's and all the Jillian's.

Reply

I hate organizing/folding socks!! At my house (I go to grad school but still refer to my parent's house as "my house") we have a dresser where there are a ton of socks without matches piled on it. No one wants to take the time to organize it.

Reply

Too funny! my husband hates that I steal his socks. Over the last couple years, I think he has come to accept it as it is…we share socks. plain and simple. I want JIllian to yell at me on the treadmill. I'll have to look into that! Your treadmill is making me jealous. :)

Reply

Ya'll need some new socks. They all look dirty in the pic!!!

Reply

our go to dinner (of you have a crock pot) is a cup of frozen corn, taco seasoning, can of rinsed beans, ( I use black beans) then put three frozen chicken breasts on top of the beans and corn, cover it with a bottle of salsa. Cook it on low for 6-8 hours then shred the chicken….I eat this in taco shells, burrito bowls or just on top ofa big spinach salad. Wanna come organize my socks next?! haha
