Friday Favorites (a peak into my weird mind)

Let’s talk about a few of our favorite things (anyone watch Sound of Music?)

1.  When I opened up my Mother’s pantry this is what I saw.  A shelf from heaven.  My favorite things within 2 feet of each other.  PB, ketchup, chia seeds, not one but two huge Costco boxes of Ghirardelli brownies and bbq sauce.  Those are the only ingredients I need to survive.  I guess I can now say I know for sure I wasn’t adopted.

2.  Canned green beans.  Obsessed.  Yes, that is bbq sauce in which I dip the beans into.  Normal people do this.
IMG 4954
Together we can change the stigma of triple chins.  From now on let us embrace the extra layers under our chins, it is hot.

3.  Dipping my grilled cheese sandwich into tomato soup.  I have the perfect technique down (it is all in the wrist) to ensure that I do not get the bread too soggy but instead just the right amount of soup is absorbed.
IMG 4959

4.  I caught Billy red handed.  For years he has made fun of me for putting jam on my grilled cheese sandwiches and look who I found spreading deliciousness onto their sandwich…..yep, that is Billy (my legs are hairy but not that hairy….give me a break people).
IMG 4960

5.  Building a small village with my gummy bears and then killing them one by one.  Someone get me back on the treadmill, I am really starting to scare myself.
IMG 4963

6.  Swimming.  Um, I don’t know who I am anymore because I am really starting to like it.  I am doing the bike this morning and the pool after school followed by hanging out at the PT office for a few hours, I know I will simmer down the partying when I have kids or something.

This is an old photo…. I am working on my swimming form now, no need to make fun of me mmkay?

A quick swimming tip based on that photo – try to press down with your arm that's in the water, and also try to get your head lower. You should have one goggle in the water and one out when you are breathing, and when you aren't breathing, you want to be looking at the bottom of the pool. This way, you are more horizontal and your effort goes to moving you forward instead of keeping you afloat. Glad to hear you are enjoying swimming!

Um lover?? I also build villages with my gummi bears you are not alone. Just realized…I need to request more Haribo's from Germany. I will send you a package of the real deal. Trust me there is a HUGE difference between American gummi bears and German…xxoox

My husband is the pro at using gummy bears in his gingerbread houses. The key? They rock climb up the sides of the house, and then "crash" to death in my mouth!

Pantry staples? steel cut oats. quinoa. peanut butter. nutella. applesauce. (i've got kids) jambalaya mix straight from the big easy. Oh, and don't forget the food storage buckets of wheat and potato pearls!!

I got a Facebook when I was a freshman in college, but I hardly use it anymore.

Did you watch The Office last night? It was such a sweet episode!

Yes I saw The Social Network, fantastic movie! I was 25 years old when I got my facebook (a little behind the times but oh well)
My pantry staples, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, Kraft macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, eggs, fruits, broccoli, I mean man I could go forever! lol
I don't eat gummy bears, so no castles :(
Today's Friday favorite is the Carolina game tonight! Hoping they win! So sorry about BYU…I wished they had won because I picked them in my bracket.

Reply

I don't make villages with my gummi bears, but I do make my sweedish fish swim into my mouth…they just taste better that way.

Reply

This is going to sound weird (lol) but the husband and I built an entire gummy bear war one time. They were separated by colors, and the bears had gummy worms to ride and. We even made a hospital tent. It wasted an entire afternoon but it was totally worth it, and delicious.
My pantry staples are pb, bbq sauce, cereal, bread and some form of chocolate.

I actually really liked The Social Network, although I think it portrayed Zuckerberg in an unrealistically unflattering light.
I play with my gummy bears, too, they are really cute waiting in line patiently to get eaten. They think it's a bus stop. Very sad.

Reply

Triple chins are HOT. At least that's what I tell myself anyway…! ;)

Gummy bear villages?! Nah, I make gmmy bear CITIES. Like a Gummy Bear Eiffel Tower. Knocking it down is the fun bit!! :D

Pantry staples= PB, chocolate chips and broccoli. Everything else I can live without:)

I still haven't seen The Social Network, I need to catch up on my movies. And I am one of the 7 people in the world that does not have a facebook account. I am just not into it, I don't know why, but now that I have gone this long, I can't succumb to the pressure! (I am kind of stubborn that way).

Pantry staples: peanut butter, cereal and oatmeal, baking supplies. The first 3 for the kids, my pantry staple: chips and salsa!

Reply

My pantry is and will always be complete if there is a Costco size jar of peanut butter and a box of Clif Bars…as well as bananas, honey mustard, red bull, grapes, yogurt and car keys to drive to the Japanese Steakhouse for Hibatchi :)
I need to see Social Network! Even my mom said she loved it!

Happy Friday!

My pantry staples include nut butter, oatmeal, vanilla extract!!, popcorn, beans, pasta, granola bars, and other random baking items!

My Friday favorites are waking up to birds chirping and not the sound of the garbage truck, tea, and getting together with friends tonight! :)

Reply

I used to be a grilled cheese with jam person. Then my bf introduced me to grilled cheese with ketchup. It sounded disgusting to me, but in actuality is quite good! Thought you might enjoy it since you love ketchup so. :)

Oh, and I've never built a gummy bear city, but when I do eat animal shaped anything I have to eat the head first. To put it out of it's misery.

I have issues.

Reply

oh.my.god. why do we not live closer?! because we are TWINS. canned green beans are my life. and bbq sauce makes everything better. have you tried cold pizza with it? or even hot pizza. heaven!

Reply

I love BBQ and A1 with my green beans. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Reply

I totally dip veggies in BBQ sauce. It makes EVERYTHING better.

Reply

I saw The Social Network and liked it but wonder how much of it is completely factual. I know that Mark Zuckerburg is actually still with the girlfriend he was with when he started FB. I got FB when I was a freshman in college. At that point you could only get it if you had a registered college e-mail.

Peanut butter, chips and salsa, cans of corn and green beans, and Tony Chachere's seasoning are ALWAYS in stock.

Please move to Texas where you can teach me to run and I can teach you to swim! I grew up swimming and player water polo competitively all the way through high school! I was set to play in college then had 2 serious injuries and couldn't :(

Reply

I loooooove canned green beans. They are definitely my favorite form of green bean and I like to drown them in Italian dressing and pretend that I'm still being healthy. I mean, it's still a vegetable right??

Reply

Um, making armies/villages and such out of animal shaped food, then killing them/biting off their head/arm/leg is the ONLY way to go!

Canned green beans are amazing. I'll have to try them with BBQ.

Pantry staples: oats, peanut butter, greek yogurt (okay, fridge staples, too), cottage cheese, sugar free vanilla Coffee Mate, ketchup, canned veggies, sweet potatoes.

Reply

Those brownies are the bomb! I've made them for my students before and they always compliment me on my cooking skills. :D

I got my facebook account some time in college…can't remember when. I go through phases where I do a lot with it and then other phases where I'm like…facewhat?

Reply

goldfish, nutella, soup, and peanut butter are my staples! :)

Reply

Gum in a couple different flavors, Peanut butter and chips.

I don't line up gummy bears but I do love to put all my candy that I am eating on a napkin and place them in a rainbow color line. (skittles)

Reply

Do people have other ways of entertaining themselves in airports besides gummy bear villages?

Reply

I love canned green beans, too. I can eat 1 entire can by myself in one sitting. Hubs laughs at me.

Reply

Well today is my favorite friday cause its my bday :) No blog for me so when you read this I'll assume your saying "Happy Birthday Alicia." haha Gummy bear village? Please thats just the beginning… I've had gummy wars, gummy towns built with cards and the gummy bears as the people, gummy poker games, oh and my favorite… pretending like the gummy bears are about to fall into the water of my drink and then dropping them in hence they almost drown but DON'T WORRY the others will save them, they will save them.. you can breathe. I hope its ok that I'm totally making myself crack up right now so I hope you are too!

Reply

I am always building things out of food. ha ha I thought I was the only one.

Friday Favorite- They are building a Cafe Rio right next to my gym in Spanish Fork. Best day ever!!!!

Have a great day and weekend! Lets plan a Saturday 20-miler end of April. Pretty please. We could do the first 20 of UV Marathon.

Reply

First of all I love grilled cheese and tomato soup and I LOVE ghiradelli brownies…. they are the best brownies out there!! My sister always adds a few choc chips to the batter and they are even better!

My pantry staples:
pb, trail mix, bread, oatmeal, kids z-bars, and preztels!

Reply

I love your gummy bear city! Keep up the amazing swimming and cycling. Still praying for a fast recovery for you, and I hope you're having a very happy Friday!! xoxo

I got facebook when it was for colleges only – I think I was 19, so that would be 2004. I had myspace before that. I love social networking!!!

Pantry staples – pb, almond butter, oats, cereal, unsweetened dried mango, lara bars, clif mojo bars, pasta, some type of brownie or cake mix (in case we need to bake last minute), canned pumpkin, canned veggies, tuna.

I make my gummy bears fight :) Then they kiss and make up, and then I bite their heads off.

Friday favorites – tomorrow is my wonderful mother's birthday, and we are going to celebrate tonight by going to eat and hear our friend's band play until WAYYY too late. I'm giving quizzes in all my classes today – which means I can finish my grading, lesson plans, and blog commenting. :) Tonight is also my only night without Zumba, so that means extra time with Daniel!

Have a FABULOUS Friday!

Reply

Oh, and grilled cheese and tomato soup go together like frozen yogurt and lots of toppings. :)

Reply

Thank you Janae for the awesome photography plug….As far as your post goes I just squish all the gummy bears up and eat as many at a time as possible ;) LOL

Reply

My pantry consists of tuna, canned veggies, oats, nuts, peanut butter, G2 packets, and various protien bars.
Favorite this Friday is PERSONAL DAY! Yup just me, the couch and TV. Oh yeah, of course some shopping and easy cross training.

Reply

So running/fitness/PT takes over your life too? Friends make fun of me and say i'm a 50 year old living in a 27 year olds body…Oh well, I would MUCH rather feel great, challenge myself and live a healthy lifestyle than be partying it up and feeling terrible the next day! Good luck with the PT, i'm out for a little while with a stress fracture and it's incredibley lame! (luckily, i am allowed on the elliptical though!)

Reply

I have super weird gummy bear habits – First, I have to eat the colors one at a time. Then, I eat them in order from my least favorite, down to my super favorite. I take one color out at a time, and line them up like they're little marching bears, then… eat them. Yumtastic.

I'm a weirdo.

I saw Social Network and really enjoyed it. It's scary, and impressive, to think about the best Facebook has become since it's conception.

Friday Favorites: Kashi bars, layering long sleeves under short sleeves, the plate of cupcakes a student just randomly brought me (it's my prep period, don't worry), and the fact that in less than 6 hours I'll be on spring break.

Reply

I don't use gummy bears… I do it with Sour Patch Kids. I think my husband gets embarassed when we are at the movies waiting for the movie to start and I am chanting pretending that they are little tribal people.

Reply

i love your gummy bear city! hilarious!

Reply

I started laughing over your gummy bear picture! I can't say I've ever done that, but it's pretty funny.
Friday Favs: afternoon nap & power yoga.

Reply

Your mom has got it DOWN with the essentials in life. I need to meet her and officially introduce myself as her biggest fan.

I actually just watched The Sound of Music last week when I was on spring break! Such a classic and it always makes me feel good :)

Reply

You make me laugh! I forecast a future Ironwoman with all this cross-training!! 140.6–I think you are made for that–you never tire!!!

I used to "scuplt" my leftovers at restaurants into faces…next up, Gummi bear villages!!

My literal Friday Fav = my afternoon walk with Coopy–then I know it's the weekend! :)

Have a fantastic weekend–I will be back to stalk you of course!

Reply

pantry staples : oats, protein powder, almond butter, jam, and black beans. I heart swimming too!!!

I LOVE grilled cheese and tomato soup together! Best combo ever! I've never tried BBQ sauce with green beans though, sounds interesting and yes I play with my gummy bears before I eat them :)

Reply

My family is weird…we don't have a single drop of ketchup in our house.

Reply

I don't eat gummy bears. You murderer.

Reply

First of all…Sound of Music is my favorite movie!! I know I'm a lamo but I can't help it, its the best!

If you love BBQ sauce on weird things…try it on cantaloupe! Your life will never be the same…so good!

Haribo gummies are the best! I don't build small villages with them, but my friends and I have been known to play "animal kingdon" (random game we made up) with animal crackers on long road trips…the game ultimately ends when they've all been eaten!

happy friday! have a great weekend!

Reply

My pantry staples are – peanut butter, oatmeal, and almond milk.

I haven't built cities out of gummy bears…yet, but what I have done is bite each gummy bear in half and put them back together with different colored tops and bottoms…haha

Reply

The gummy bears look like they are offering the one green bear up as a sacrifice on their brazen alter … probably to appease some hungry deity that threatens to eat them all if they don't behave

Reply

You crack me up!!
Umm jam on grilled cheese?! I'm in! Gotta try it!

Reply

Oh, Janae! That could be myyy pantry! We are mean to be! ;) Is is bad that I am excited that my good friend and running buddy is moving to Utah because when I come visit her I can also visit you? (Not that I am also REALLY happy and excited for her that she got a job in the place of her dreams!!) And, I swear, I'm not a stalker!

Today, my Friday Favorite is chicken chili which is simmering now and great blogger friends like you!

I called it here first, you will definitely be doing a triathlon sometime. You are a rad swimmer AND biker/spinner too? You are destined.

I joined facebook when I was 23. But I think I'm a couple years older than you, so sounds like similar timing

My sister's husband loves gummy bears so much that my mother dressed two in tiny bride and groom outfits and put them on the top of their wedding cake! I hope you continue to heal well from your injury!

Reply

i love the gummy bear town!!! brian and i do that with dino nuggies!

Reply

Great on building a small village with your gummy bears and then killing them one by one.  Maybe next time you should not only build a village but let your gummy bears visit the world famous gummy tourist attractions too. Think of what adventures your gummy bears could have from traveling from one to another. Well good luck on your gummy bear quest.
