In my ideal running world I would just run for hours at a moderate pace, not too fast and not too slow.  I love seeing how far and how long I can run.

DSC_3969.JPG

I obviously love trying to do the robot as I run too.

Is just running in my comfort zone going to make me faster and get a sub 3? NOPE.

So, I did something that scared me today.  I literally was scared as I was driving to the gym.

I did a speed workout.  It felt good in the way where your eyeballs sweat and you look like you have been standing under a waterfall for 20 minutes.

I felt like I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone and did something that SCARES the crap out of me.

Utah Valley Marathon 37.jpg

13.1 in 1:32:20.  I felt back to myself again…..seriously, rest days are SO NECESSARY and it is okay to not love running every day.  I was feeling burnt out on Saturday big time but a nice little rest and all of your amazing advice and comments from you guys and today I felt like my usual psychotic woman again!

8:00, 6:47, 6:44, 6:40, 7:30, 6:35, 7:30, 6:30, 6:30, 7:22, 7:14, 7:08, 6:40.

————————————————————————-

So here is the dealio with my new running weekly training plan……

-One day SPEED (Monday’s because it is right after my rest day and I have so much energy and umph to give).

-One day HILLS (These kick my trash)

-One long run (at an easy/conversational pace)

-One fun run (probably about 5-8 miles at a moderate pace)

-If Billy asks me on a running date.  You better believe I am going:)

What scares me about this new schedule…….

-SPEED AND HILLS….they hurt, my muscles scream at me ‘WHY”, my lungs feel like they are going to explode and my breakfast comes back up. To be honest the real reason they scare me is because I don’t ‘KNOW’ that I can do them.  I ‘KNOW’ I can do a long run and maybe that is why I like them so much.  I get scared of failure and speed work is not something I know I can do.. but who cares.  I am going to do it anyways.

-Slow long runs…….This scares me too because I start freaking out that it is way to slow for my goal pace but I am now learning it is good to take your pace down for your long runs and include plenty of miles each week that aren’t ‘Fast.’ *****Remember running is completely RELATIVE to each person as an individual.  We all have different strengths so please do not compare yourself to anyone else but yourself!! I mean I could compare the fact that I have 81 cavities, never wash my hair, watch hours of tv everyday and loose students on fieldtrips to all of you amazing woman and men that are normal and don’t have my weaknesses ya know…..  We are all just doing our best and let’s be happy about that k?

What workouts SCARE YOU?

-Speed workouts and Hill repeats!!!!!! I am determined to do it though.

Other than workout related things what scares you?

A candy famine, the stupid motorized helicopter Billy has that shoots missiles at me, being home alone, washing my hair, mice, spiders and snakes.

What made your Monday Awesomesauce?!?!

-A popular girl student said I had a cute outfit on today (ha, I know I am a loser….and it was the same outfit I wore Friday and Saturday ooops).  It made me feel hip and stylish and hopefully the cute outfit will mask my sweaty hair-do.

ha ha you make me want to run when I read your blog! I stayed home cause I was feeling under the weather this morning and now that I feel better, I am forcefully keeping myself from going for a run!!

Oh and you also make me crave candy :)

My scariest workout has to be speed training but at the same time its very exciting :)

Okay, I cannot believe you didnt post a picture of said outfit!!

Things that scare me: Also being home alone. I cant sleep in the house alone :( I am also afraid of the dark so if the power goes out while Im there alone…death is pretty much guaranteed from fright!!

Workout that scares me: HILLS! We have this workout we do once a week leading into our big race called Hill Bounding. Its like…hill repeats on crack. You do it like youre cross country skiing, your heart rate flies up, and it feels SO GOOD to be at the top!

also HAHA I put That Runner Chuck instead of That Runner Chick…THAT made my Monday Awesomesauce! I cant stop laughing about it!

My Monday was Awesomesauce because I finally bought a new Coach bag! Been trying to decide on one for a while and actually, it's my first Coach bag. I own countless Fossil bags, but not a Coach! =) Seeing Coach on your blog this morning inspired me to go get one immediately!

Rest days? What are those? My last one was the day after Thanksgiving ;)

I actually don't think I could run WITHOUT speedwork or hills. I get bored running at the same speed everyday! Some days I just need to get my legs churning!

Reply

SPEEDY JANAE!!!

I'm doing a LOT of speedwork at the moment, so it doesn't scare me as much as it used to! I love the super runner's high I get after a good speedwork sesh! That made MY Monday awesomesauce! :D

HILLS scare me, as does running out of chocolate. I am down to one square right now, and am having trouble breathing.

Reply

I'm scared of heavy weight lifting. And swimming laps for more than 20 minutes. It's too hard.

I'm afraid of running out of bananas during a snowstorm.

And my Monday was awesomesauce because I got caught up on all my favorite blogs, got in a good workout, and tried steel cut oats for the first time. Yipeeeeee!!

Reply

Okay. Can you tell me how you are doing a hill workout on a treadmill? I need to work on this. I just started stepping up my treadmill game with a incline of 1.

Reply

ahhhh I totally just dedicated one sentence of my recent post to my fear of speedwork. I would totally rather run for miles and miles at my comfortable speed than push myself faster than I think I can run…I am doing some speedwork on Wednesday this week…already freaking out! So excited that you conquered your speed workout today and feel refreshed after some rest :)

Reply

OMG – I just read your meltdown blog. Today was that day for me. I stopped in the middle of my run to walk home. I just wasn't having it. I'm trying to do a distance run(10 miles) and I couldn't. My mind wouldn't let me. You inspired me. Tomorrow is the day! I will do it! Workouts that scare me – any work out where my ipod dies or is about to die. Scary things! I hate scary movies & turbulence on an airplane & being home alone at night! Monday Awesomesauce – Hot chocolate & a muffin for breakfast :-)

Reply

You never fail to crack me up! I think SPEED is scary too because "What if I'm not fast?" Gasp! But, something tells me you will come to love taking your body to new levels, even if breakfast winds up on the ground. :)

I have a killer hill workout scheduled for Wednesday and I am already thinking I may disturb gym members with my heavy breathing and grunting!

Monday, one of my advisee's thanked me for helping him out so much. Means a lot! Awesomesuace–love this word!

Reply

I am scared of pushing myself to run faster and harder because I know how much it can hurt. I was forced to sprint for years and run when I didn't want to so I got in to running at a comfortable easy pace. But I am going to start asking more of myself and run faster! I did a tougher than usual workout on the TM today so I know its progress! you are my inspiration :) Thanks for mentioning my giveaway…you are pretty much SPECTACULAR!

What scares me right now is simple. I have managed to hurt my back/hip doing winter crap… That scares the bejeebes out of me… (anybody who has a "UH OH. WHAT is THIS kinds injury knows what I mean…)

Reply

Your running speed is so impressive. If I can make it one mile without stopping to walk I think I'm queen of the road. (Sad but true!) My monday was awesome because I did two miles faster then the last time I did it! (I am NOT a runner..but I'm trying!)

Reply

Glad you are back to crazy!:) I know you are going to run your sub 3. I have no doubt in my mind. You make me so excited to run again soon, and do speedwork ….. I'll have to think about the hills, lol…;)

Way to go girl! It's hard doing the things that scares us but it's those things that will help us grow the most. I did speed today too for the first time in a long time. It felt hard and good.
You are so speedy! It's gonna be fun watching to see what you can do!
Awesomesauce? gotta be that 5 year old telling me that he loves me the mostest!

Reply

You are a rock star girl! Seriously! Way to rock it!

The workout that scares me most right now is my hill workout because I currently have to do it on the treadmill since it would be more like ice skating if I did it outside on my usual hill. Looking forward to when it warms up a bit and I can run on said hill again. I feel like I'm goin to fly off the back of the treadmill when I am inclined and running faster.

My Monday was awesomesauce because I had a great conversation with a friend and it made me smile all day!!

Reply

It funny when I scroll down through the comments, I think I am the only one who doesn't run( although I'd love to get there someday) will I be kicked off here? :). So a workout that scares me- we have this personal trainer at my gym, who does a lunge class once a week. And you do 45 minutes of different lunges. After the first time doing that, I have never felt such pain in my life. Once I got in better shape, then it was easier, so I am scared of that workout by far.
Also scared of- mice, deep water, and really bad winter roads(which we frequent here).
Monday awesomeness-it is my anniversary and my husband remembered! (After being married so long, they sometimes can forget :)

Reply

You are my hero. That is all.

Reply

Way to get back out there and rock it!!! Woohoo!! Nice Monday. :-) Speed workouts both scare me and fire me up. I am trying to do more speed stuff and while it's great when it's over, it scares me at the beginning.

Awesomesauce Monday = THE BACHELOR TONIGHT!!!!!

Reply

What scares me is starting to run again. I stopped running 1 1/2 years ago after completing a 10k. I've decided that I want to run a marathon so I'm registering for Chicago tomorrow. It's not fun getting back into shape and I'm scared of making such a big commitment and not being able to keep it.

My Monday was awesome though because I ran today (in the freezing wind/flurries too)! It wasn't very far and I had to walk a bit but it was a start! Thanks for the motivation! :)

Reply

Dang girl, you are FAST! Congrats on the awesome time!! That is fantastic :)
I am scared of a few things right now…but one of the main ones is that this new medicine I'm supposed to take will be actually effective. I sure hope so :) & I hope it will get me back on track for my marathon training, you are quite an inspiration! :)

Reply

You go giiirl!! So proud of you!! :)

I'm scared of rest days, speed workouts and I don't like to go slow either. Hills are fine for me…but, I don't like to take rest days!

You have a great workout plan!! You motivate me to step up my training!! You must totally impress everyone at the gym. Someone should've handed you a medal/plaque/smoothie or something! I would've!!

WAY TO GO!! XO :)

Reply

WHO are you!?! Damn, you are FAST! Great job! Eat a million cookies for me, lady! :)

Reply

Whoa! That is an amazingly scary/awesome run :)

I'm scared of trying some new things, because I'm scared of failing. Should probably get over that so I can identify my dreams and get after 'em!

Reply

That is a great plan! I know I should do more hills just for strength, but it's hard to be motivated to do them when I know my race is flat. Gahh…

What scares me? Feet, phonecalls, bugs, and birds. My students had a grand ol' time making fun of me in France with all the birds around!

And you saw on my blog what made my Monday great! Don't you love it though when the "popular" students compliment you on something? I still feel like the shy supernerd in the back of the room sometimes, and those compliments make me feel less like that. Haah!

Reply

You crack me up! I am glad you pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone. We all have to do that sometimes and it can be really scary.

What scares me? For workouts, definitely speed work. It's not my favorite. Non-workout – Failure is the biggest one, sleeping alone (moreso that I just get really anxious and don't like it — luckily it rarely happens!) and driving in the snow.

Today my day was great because my kids had a pretty good day and I talked to my Grandma on the phone for 58 minutes.

Reply

Distance scares me…its why I challenged myself to a 5k, speed I get, I do it chasing a disc all the time. Running multiple miles at once terrifying. Running 13.1 scares me but that's why I do it. The times I've learned the most in athletics, work, relationships, anything really is when I've pushed myself to do something that is pretty terrifying.

What scares me in real life…snakes. They are super creepy.

Breakfast this morning completely made my day, homemade breakfast burrito from manfriend mmm mmm.

Reply

Super incredible workout girl!! (Take a moment to do the 'Janae is awesome' dance.)

Things that scare me…unlocked doors or windows to my house–I check them two or three times a night before I go to bed. Not having any Light Vanilla Silk in the fridge–this is a daily must have for me. Not having any books to read. I have to have books around me always. And of course the fear of always being fat…but I am working to make that fear go away and become something more like "afraid my size 4 jeans may be too loose on my behind so I better go buy some 2's". :)

Oh, and did you ever find him? The student you lost on the field trip, that is. Heehee

anytime i set out to do something that isn't for sure. like those speed workouts. you are SOOO right. they are scary because they are not certain. there's no way to guarantee that you will hit your goal times. but i guess that helps us deal with the mental stress of wondering what will happen come race day. i'm always most scared in the middle of my speed intervals…when i have SO FAR still left to go…and feel 100% spent. the doubts that take over make me want to take a nap.

i'm also terrified when i see a platter that has those cute little pickles on them. i'm always afraid that i'm going to bite into a sweet…when i was expecting a dill…

Reply

Speedwork scares me because they make me want to …excuse me…puke and well I am not a fan of that activity.

Other things that scare me: height, snakes.

Monday Awesomesauce: 4 miles outside. and it is monday so guilty tv pleasure is on…on ABC..you know what I mean.

Reply

Yay!! Awesome run my friend. I do my long runs on Mondays and people often ask why, but it just is my favorite way to start a new week. Running, in general, scares me! I love it and I think that's why it scares me because I don't want to jeopardize it. Does that make sense? Like a relationship. Anyway, other things that scare me – scary movies, cockroaches, parking garages, noises in the night! Eeek. I'm sort of a weenie. My Monday started with a great 7-mile run. It gave me energy all day. And tonight is homemade Mexican food and The Bachelor. xo

Reply

That's AWESOME! You're going to kick so much butt in Boston. Running longer than five miles scares me. I've never done it, so it freaks me out a little. But I need to do it. And I want to this week. Eek!

Other things? JELLYFISH and COCKROACHES. Absolutely cannot handle either.

Awesomesauce: Like I said on twitter, JAKE STARTED RUNNING. AND I don't have work (babysitting) till 1 am, like I was going to. I'm off. So I can actually go to bed early, like I want to. Yessss.

Reply

Wow! I want to be you when I grow up (12 years ago, that is).

Seriously,
I love what you said about it being relative. You had some amazing numbers, but I'm 12 years older than you, and had a baby 5 months ago, so I'm excited about my 10 minute mile. However, you do make me want to push a little harder!

Holy speed workout, you are awesome!

I get nervous before my speed workouts almost every time. But I love them, even though sometimes I think I may literally die and fall off the back of the treadmill. That would be awkward.

I am deathly afraid of centipeides or anything else with millions of legs. Creeps.me.out.

I am scared of HILLS!! Seriously, I go out of my way to avoid them at all costs! Non running fear is HEIGHTS!! And my Monday was awesomesauce because I was very productive at work :) Nice speedwork session today girl!! You rocked it! :)

I was always so scared of my speed work during my last training cycle. I would literally pace in the kitchen because I was so anxious. BUT, I always felt AMAZING afterward and I reached my sub-2:00 half marathon (cutting 24 minutes in four months).

I've tried hill work as well but there's not much of those where I live.

Good luck with your plan. I'm cheering for you … from my couch … in my jammies.

Reply

woot woot, great run today! you are going to kick booty at boston! :)

I've said it a million times, but it doesn't make me any less scared – hills. Also, speedwork (though not as much as hills)

non- running: my basement (I refuse to go in it alone), the huge snowstorm coming to michigan (expected 10-15 inches), creepy crawlies, and being in my house by myself at night

my monday was awesome because I went out in the cold and ran 5.5 miles and felt fab after!

Reply

workout related- what scares me is that i've never run before and now i'm undertaking this challenge of "becoming a runner." i'm not sure what's to come and i think i'm scared of the unknown.

non workout related- i'm scared of being alone. i really like being around people and having others to count on. maybe this means i need to be ok with just myself. self confidence booster!

Reply

I am so proud of you for doing speed work!! I still get scared when I go to running club for speed work days! I just get worried I wont hit the paces or I wont run fast enough or I will just want to quit. It is scary but the only way to get better is to run and work hard!

Distance scares the living crap out of me. I love your plan Janae, good luck.

Other than distance trigonometry scares me lately…Yikes!!

WAY TO GO GIRL! YOU ARE AWESOME!

Speed workouts scare me a lot. Mostly tempo's because I'm afraid I won't be able to hold that pace.

I am afraid of the dark, and the woods in the dark. It's that think where I can't see what's in front of me!

My monday was awesome because my belly felt better and my parents got me a Penguin's jersey for my birthday of my favorite player! :)

KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK GIRL!

Reply

Surprisingly there isn't much in the gym that scares me. I'm not scared to do a speed workout, as I know that it will make me faster. I guess long runs outside scare me. I'm a little scared that I will get halfway out and not be able to run back home.
Outside of running I am scared of the usual bugs and such, and also scared that me or someone in my family is going to get a serious illness.

Monday was awesome because I lifted, ran 2 miles in 20:20, AND did a pull up (palms facing me) using my momentum from jumping to the bar to get me the rest of the way up!!!!!

I'm happy that you are pushing yourself!! I need to do that more and am trying to do that. Only my warmup and cooldown runs will be below 6 mph on the treadmill!!! Everything else above a 6!!

Reply

My speed work made my Monday awesomesauce! Looks like a great plan, way to just plug through, that's what it's all about! Best of luck, you can do it!!!

Reply

I have definitely had to learn to embrace and love speed workouts. For so long, I got SUPER nervous about speed workouts because I put a lot of pressure on myself in high school and college to perform well at practice.

Those nerves then carried into this point in my life when I still strive to be a competitive runner, but I no longer have a coach watching me and realized I shouldn't be as nervous. I've have also had a lot of successful speed sessions which has definitely boosted my confidence.

Reply

I love love love the genuine honesty in all your posts.

I fear speed work because my all time #1 fear is throwing up. However, i must be making progress because a student threw up at my feet and did not even have a heart palputation…….so i guess we can learn to not react to our fears (even these quirky ones)

What made my day awesomesauce: Used the word awesomesauce at school, and my students looooooooved it. However, I could not take credit, so technically you made a guest appearance in my classroom today.

Reply

such a great plan!! so well balanced. Wish I do speed workouts with you. They are scary, but in the end, you are on cloud 9, right?!

I am scared to death of running fast! Seriously! I've never finished a race feeling like I gave all I could because I'm always afraid I'll push too hard in the beginning and crash before the end. My goal is to puke after my next half marathon. Then I'll know I gave it everything I had!

My Monday was awesomesauce because … wait for it… I GOT A 5.75% RAISE! Woot!

i bought new dining room chairs today but then we sold the old table and chairs on craig's list and then found out the new table won't be here for 2 months. oops. so we are eating on our laps until april.

AWESOME job on your speed workout! run right at that thing that scares you! that's why i do, i'm an idiot sometimes but it usually works out. xo.

I love how you called one of your students a popular girl – that totally made my day.

I think that speed workouts scare me too because I'm always afraid of falling. :)

Reply

Tempo runs scare me! I can do intervals, but maintaining a fast speed is hard for me. I'm motivated to do them more often though after reading this. Also snakes – hate them!
My Monday was awesome because of the avocado & cheese sandwich I devoured.

Reply

I agree, where is the picture of your cute outfit?

That looks like a good workout-it is hard to not fall into just doing the same run every single day, i have started doing more hills now.

The workouts that scare me the most is running with the pack, because I don't know where we will go, or how long we will be out running for.

Trying to do speedwork on a treadmill too, that is awful just because all teh fiddling with the buttons makes me crazy!!

Awesome speed workout today!! I love that you made it the exact distance of a halfy. I think your new strategy sounds great – I also do one long run, one speed session, and one tempo OR hill workout per week, along with a couple little "filler" runs and strength training. I know what you mean about being nervous to not run at your goal pace – it helps me to keep in mind that every run has a purpose, and there are reasons not all miles are at my goal pace. Running some slower will mean that I'm working on my endurance and then my speed sessions will be able to be faster and ultimately help me out more in the end. Again, you seriously inspire me with your attitude and love for running…I smile as I read your blog :)

Reply

My fear of speed workouts started over 20 years ago. My race of choice was the 200 m. I was fast. A lot faster than everyone else. My coach would start everyone else and wait for them to get 50 m from the start and then let me start. I had to catch them before the finish line. Then he started giving them a 100 m head start. Every time I think about speed work, I remember that feeling in my stomach. I guess you can say I have a complex.

I'm also scared of roaches, big spiders, ticks, and scorpions.

Coming home to my family made my Monday!

Reply

Running fast scares me. I might trip. I might fall. I might scrape my knee!! :) lol

Not much scares me except for things with fangs. Take your pick. ANYTHING with fangs. :)

Reply

I'm really scared of pole dancing workouts…that just seems wierd to me

I'm also really scared of bugs. I HATE house centipedes–I had them in my old apartment and would freak everytime I saw them , which was at least twice each day…I moved out quickly

Reply

I'd be super scared if I ran as fast as you because I would mean that I was obviously possessed. ;P

Reply

I do my speed work on Mondays as well!! Yeah- we can think of each other! (except I alternate speed and hills- I only do 1/week). Your new plan sounds great and don't ever underestimate the power of positive thinking (you can do anything!)

Reply

Black mambas and scary african spiders. I just know I'm going to encounter them when I move and I'm terrified!

Reply

I'm not scared of anything and I'm pretty sure that's unnatural.

Ok, so what I do not get is "long slow distance". That is so hard for me. I hate to go slower. It drags the run out and when I'm done I feel dissatisfied. I'm awful at long slow distance.

PS – those intervals look BRUTAL.

Reply

Don't even get me started on what scares me. Ugh. Not getting better and being myself again mostly. But lots of other things in the deep dark night like my kids getting sick or my husband not finding a job or me being less than what my potential tells me I can be…

Reply

I just wrote a similar post about hills and speed!

They also are the workout that scares me. A lot.

I'm also scared of sharks, BIG TIME. I think it's my obsession with Shark Week that does it.

Reply

REST is sooo important!!! My body feels so much better now that I run less often but further. I also increased my weight training and yoga time. I love and so does my body!

The one thing that scares me is long runs alone. I have always trained with Jay or my best friend. I can not imagine more than 8 miles by myself. This summer will be a challenge when Jay is at clinical rotation and I have to start training for the Marine Corps Marathon alone. At least he will be back in the fall for the really long runs!

Reply

I can def relate to the long run thing. I get nervous running them slower like I'm gonna screw myself up by not running them at race pace.. sigh

Reply

well said janae! speed work always scares me too. even though i know i can do it, it's just so intimidating! i agree, i could run for hours at a moderate pace and be perfectly happy. if only THAT would make us faster :(

Distance scares me… from here on out my long runs each week will be the farthest I've EVER run and that scares the crap out of me.

You rock!

Speed workouts on the track terrify me but I LOVE doing them on the treadmill!

Sometimes I'm afraid of being alone, just in general, in an emotional AND physical sense…
I used to be terrified of spiders but now it's more of a passing dislike than anything. :)

this whole getting back in the running game is scarring me OUTTA MAH MIND..i keep telling myself that my injuries not fully gone and its gonna come back and punch me in the face

Ok…now that I have a headlamp I find that I have new things that scare me.

Hills make me nervous too, only because I went too aggressively without warming up one time and ended up tearing my hip. But I am scared of sleeping past my alarm clock the most =D

You are a WARRIOR! Keep up the intensity!

Reply

wow you are fast! but i like your comment about focusing on yourself and speed in relation to your own abilities. that made me feel a lot better, since i'm much slower than my running buddies.

what scares me is not keeping up with my running after boston. last year, i took nearly 6 months off. i don't want to do that again. i guess the solution would be to keep signing up for races?

Reply

Honestly- you are awesome sauce. SERIOUSLY. I love that you are REAL you are not just some awesome hungry runner girl who is a complete bad ass but you are a normal human being. You have the same fears and addictions as the rest of us and I love that. You are seriously so inspiring and make me want to be bffaeaeaeae's with you hahah. I'm so glad you are stating your fears, thats the best way to over come them!

Oh and a saying that I LOVE and pushes me when I'm mid run feeling like I can't hack it I say "“Run until you get sick. And then keep running.”" You've prob heard it but it makes me push a little harder to my limits.

I'm terrified of speedwork because old injuries always end up flaring up and deterring any other training I have planned!
awesomeness for today? I found an endangered species and helped my boy accomplish a new pdr!

Speed scares me too! I kinda wish I had someone there to push me cause I tend to want to slow down cause I think I can't push myself to go faster.

Spiders scare me too! Like they scare me so much I almost start to cry. I was bit by one on my cheek and I had to go to the Dr. cause of it :(

My 10 mile run and conquering running up a BIG hill today made me have an Awesomesauce Monday! Oh and the yummy tacos I made for dinner tonight.

P.S. I want to see a pic of the outfit! :)

Oh and P.S.S
I can't wait till I can go on a running date with my love as soon as I get to Idaho!

Janae you make me laugh every day! I am my own entertainment, too. Had to work today, but I made this awesome cake that my husband devoured. I'm scared of sharks (don't know why…I live in Oklahoma!!!) and sleeping without clothes on (what if there's a fire? No WAY am I standing in my front yard watching my house burn down nude). I just started doing speedwork and I actually like it. I haven't really done hills & I hope to go to my grave never running up one.

Nice run there!! It makes me soooo want to go on a run with you…silly opposite side of the country…

Speed workouts scare me but I LOVE the feeling when they're done!

You are crazy fast! Please tell me you did speedwork to get as fast as you are already… lol, what is your secret?!

Any workout that takes me out of my comfort zone scares me – basically any time I try something new. Running outside used to scare me because I felt self-conscious and wasn't sure I could do it. Now I love it!

Spiders (and most bugs) terrify me. I can't even get close enough to get rid of them, I just become a frozen mess and yell for my husband until he comes to my rescue.

A great tempo run made my Monday awesome!

I can really relate with your fears, Janae! I'm proud of you for facing them and admitting to all of blogland that you are scared.

I am in training for an early season half-ironman and I am scared that I will get sick. So far the training is amazing, I feel like I'm getting stronger and consistently following my training plan…but I am waiting for it to fall apart. Some days when I have a very long double workout, I'm afraid I will lose my motivation and somehow just not follow through. I guess I fear that I will somehow cause my own failure :(.

Unrelated to sport…I fear that I will screw up my 21 day junk food fast, which I begin tomorrow!! Along with my church – I have chosen to give up something I really enjoy and indulge in, and every time I crave it – I am supposed to pray for someone. HELP!

Monday was awesome today because I got to spend a little time with my precious mom, talk to my darling daughter for a while on the phone and make dinner with my gorgeous husband!

Oh, and reading your blog :)

YAY! for speed workouts even though they scare the shiz out of me too! they always make me excited cuz I feel fast, but then scare me because of how freaking HARD they are!

non-running scares? Spiders and bugs! and coffee & peppermint mocha creamer famine!

Awesome-sauce monday moment? Getting a spin bike from this super nice guy and sweating my guts out w/Ronna.

PS: totally agreed on the monthly fro-yo date and a running date. and I'm totally obsessed with you too, but not in a crazy-stalker-ish way, so tell Billy not to worry. :)

All my runs scare me these days b/c I'm afraid they will all be hard and that I won't be able to run my Half in 3 weeks. :(

Hey pretty lady! Where are you in the picture of you in the (mall??) with the medal? You're so stinkin' cute. And are those compression calf sleeves? Must try these someday. My Monday was awesomesauce (is that the word you used?) because I had a great adjustment from my kick in the pants awesome chiropractor. He also tortured my hamstring with some painful graston technique therapy…this was not awesome. Um, all I've been doing for 3 days straight is paint, sand, prime, paint and try to keep kids out of paint. Seriously I had to hire my babysitter tonight just to give my poor kids attention while I painted and my hubby cut wood in the garage. :) What scares me? Not living life to the fullest and getting the most out of it every single day…I don't want to lose a second. I could write a book tonight….this is what happens when I don't run all weekend and I don't get my blog writing out of my system. I write a blog on your blog. :) xo

oh, and p.s. your 13.1 training run was only 1 second slower than my fastest ever 13.1. You're such a rock start studette!

I completely understand about the fear of failure when it comes to speed work. I think there's an element of fear attached to every run for me because I am so riddled with injury: it's what makes me reluctant to sign up for races in case I don't complete them. What really terrifies me is running on the treadmill, because it completely dictates your pace and the choice is to keep up with it, or fall off. At least outside, even with speed work, you're more of your own master as it were.

Outside of working out, daddy long legs scare the heck out of me. They always fly at your face!

My Monday was pretty sucky, so I'll say what has made my Tuesday awesomesauce at the moment: 18 miles this morning @ 8:36/mile. Woo! And no frost :) Peanuts compared to your amazing workouts but pretty good for me :D

I meant to post on your last confession post but I never got a chance to sit down to my computer and respond but it made me want to cry when I read it because you are working so hard to achieve a goal and I think that is great but we all have bad days or just days that we need to cry or give ourselves a break. But, that is so wonderful that you have such a supportive husband/family who helps you through this. It looks like you have a solid training plan. As I get ready for my first race in a long time, I think racing scares me because I know it is going to hurt but if it does not, that probably means I did not try enough. But, life is not easy either and we learn through adversity. Keep up your great work. You are going to do so awesome at Boston!!!

I meant to respond to your motivation post on Sunday earlier but I never got a chance to sit down to my computer. But, I wanted to cry for you when I read it because I see that you have been working so hard. Sometimes we all just have bad days or just need to give ourselves a break, cry, and surround ourselves with people who love and support us. So, that is so great that you have such a supportive husband and family. I'm not sure where I would be today w/o my family. Anyway, it looks like you have a great training plan. What scares me? RACING! As I get ready to do my first race in a long time I am scared because I know it will be hard but if it not, I probably did not try hard enough. But life is hard and it is how we learn to handle adversity that makes us stronger. Okay, sorry for the novel but I rarely get a chance to post comments but keep up with your great work…you are going to rock in Boston!!

Clearly I'm reading your posts backwards…you already know that sushi with a girlfriend made my monday awesomesauce.

Girl, I'm so proud and impressed youre revamping your training schedule! It is going to make you SO much faster. I've dropped like an hour and a half off my marathon since doing this kind of stuff. I can't wait to see what a speedy mcspeederson it makes you! Sub 3 fo sho.

Oh you are so hilarious. I love that you are a teacher and a runner too. The comment about the popular girl saying your outfit is cute… so true. I love it!! :)

Speed workouts scare me too. In the rest of life I am the most afraid of failure. Really, that's why speed workouts scare me. I can totally relate.
